I worked with a trumpet player who didn't have a hole in his plunger. He used it to change the notes. So in it don't mean a thing his closed plunger would play a lower note in that second line you had on the screen. King Oliver never used a plunger. Lil Armstrong said he had big hands, but he used a door knob mute in the bell. I think I have 8 plungers !
I have a plunger mute without the hole cut out and a aluminum wah wah mute I bought. I hardly use them because it's loud and the neighbors hate my trumpet playing plus we have cats who's hearing is sensitive. I did buy a pixie mute because some jazz musicians with have a pixie mute inside the bell and use the plunger mute. I can't put my hand in front of the bell because my arms are too short. They don't reach unless I play the cornet. I also have an old Country Crock butter tub from the mid 1990s that I use for a wah wah mute that makes my trumpet sound like trombonist Tyree Glenn's trombone when he played with a pixie/plunger mute. He had a pixie mute inside the bell and played with a plunger.
Greetings Brother! Thank you! Just started the trumpet. I am getting liquid (condensation) coming out of the note button button valves. Is this normal?
I've been playing for over thirty years and I can tell you that it is not normal for condensation to be pouring out of the bottom of the valve casing. The condensation should only be coming out of the water key or spit valve.

Do you have caps on the bottom of your valves? Also, how much valve oil do you use? Sometimes oil leaks from the bottom of you’ve used too much.
