I'm learning/half teaching myself flugelhorn and have never played a brass instrument before and your lessons have helped so much! You've really sped up the process and made it really enjoyable and interesting, thank you!!
Love the DIY aspect of this. Another "home-made" type of mute is the ever popular Crown Royal bag. Lots of people have them just lying around. They kind of work like a hat mute to attenuate the sound, but you dont have to hold it there.
This was one of your funniest videos ever. I laughed out so many times. Thank you for keeping music fun. An excellent tip too. Would you give another trumpet player the side eye if they whipped out a $50 plunger mute at a gig? Seems like itd be an amateur trying too hard....but what do i know. Ha. Another great video. Thanks Bobby! Cheers!
Thanks! Glad you had some fun with it! I've got no judgement for anybody who wants to pick up a professionally manufactured plunger mute. That Kenny Rampton mute is popular with other professional trumpeters in New York, and probably for good reason. That said, I've always gotten great results from a homemade plunger for a 10th the price!

Happy to hear it!

This is a great quality video! Simple and easy explanation for how to make a plunger mute. 10/10
What trumpet and mouthpiece do you use? It looks lovely.
Recently I've been playing on an Austin Custom Brass Custom Reserve TA1, and I've been really happy with it.
What size of mouth piece do you use? Your tutoriqls are Amazing 👏

How do i make my trumpet sound dirty like at the start
Whenever I play with the mute (one handed) I put down my third valve, the slide comes shooting out and it’s rather annoying. Any tips to prevent this?
One idea I've come across is keeping a rubber band or hair tie handy and stretching it from the valves to your slide.
Umm y not have used a drill with a drill bit ?
Kazoot
I could cut a better hole and ruin the plunger, since I cannot play trumpet
