This is one of the most well done horror mobs I’ve seen. I really want Mojang to shadow drop a mob similar to this and tell no one, maybe even just the part where it lurks. It’d have to be such an incredibly rare occurrence that it becomes it’s own myth until they eventually fully reveal and release it. Then again dataminers could just find it in a day.
Yea this would be awesome, but sadly you don't even need to be a good dataminer to find out a new mob was added. Just opening up the textures is enough.
5:14 I love everything about this "beckoning" animation. The Shade has an air of cunning to them, rather than being purely animalistic. Like sure, the Cave Dweller and other monsters like it are phenomenal, but this offers a different flavour of danger entirely-- not being stalked by an animal, but an intelligent being that /enjoys/ toying with its prey.
my advice for not making the transformation look goofy would be to make it into a four legged creature that moves kinda like the monster from the ring. it could break its neck, making it hang down, have its limbs bend in unatural ways, and all this is happening very suddenly with sounds
The attack phase should be ultra-rare. However, I have another idea. I'm not a modder, but I created a concept for a mod. Morality. This system would track the good and bad things the player did. Killing villagers, overbreeding mobs in compact areas, abusing villager trading, zombifying villagers by force, and even making iron farms. There is a lot of morally bad things the player does. The more you immoral you are the more supernatural occurrences happen in your world. New mobs you'd never see normally exist. This one would be perfect for it. If I were to convert the concept to my mod, essentially you'd have tiers of morality or lack thereof. The stalker phase would happen in one of the lower levels of immorality, the hallucinations in the next tier, and finally attack mode in the final tier. The Cave dweller would fall into one of the higher levels. Converting other horror mods Weeping Angels would spawn at around later tiers. Low-level immorality is build-up horror. These events would be very rare, you wouldn't experience them often. This would be subtly seeing a scary mob, or Herobrine kind of activity such as redstone torch tunnels. middle-level would be the scare at the player level. Stalking events happen more, and this is where jump scares and hallucinations could occur, with some lesser scary mobs existing to attack the player. the highest level would be the attack phase. All the same events happen before at semi-rare intervals with the rarest chance of them attacking. Things like this mob could kill you taking any loot you have on you forever. That would up the tension a LOT. If I ever get into modding the game I will absolutely make this concept a reality. While attempting to work with other authors to incorporate even more horrific entities into minecraft
This will probably be buried since I’m so late, but here’s a couple ideas; if you want the shade transformation to be less goofy, you could have it stand upside down on four limbs and chase you that way, with the mouth thing facing upwards. You could also make it’s movements much more erratic not always just chasing behind the player, but climbing on walls, jumping/lunging like a spider, etc.
This mod is great and it would be really fun to sneak into a mod pack to troll your friends, but I feel like the attack phase could be reworked or removed because in it's current state it does look a bit goofy.
I really loce the idea of the shade, it's such a original concept, it's funny how even before the cave sand cliffs were announced, i had a mob concept EXACTLY like the shade, my idea is that if you stayed too long in a cave, the stalker would appear, it would be a humanoid creature, it would be very similar to steve, however its legs would be stretched, it would appear in the distance in the dark, standing there, as it stalks you, when you look at it, it would simply vanish in a black smoke, once that happens, the stalker would have a 50% chance of appearing somewhere stalking you, and after 3 or more times that happens, other hallucinations are goint to appear, one of them was the fake mobs and noises, sometimes you would also hear voices whispering behind you, and sometimes you would also see other deformed creatures very similar to the stalker (stalker variations), the stalkers are simply the souls of those who perished inside the caves, and their soul left their body to roam around in the underground
I would like to know if you plan to put this up for others to use in modpacks. I really like the concept of this mod, and am pretty bummed to find out it is based on something spooky that could have actually been a thing in Vanilla. I'd love to play this kind of mod.
Here are my ideas for possibly making The Shade an even better concept than it already is. Warning, all the ideas total to over 700 words. Sorry it's so long 😭😭😭 1. To cater to the players that aren't fond of horror, I think a good solution to this would be a button in the create world screen to toggle The Shade on or off (just like the Phantom). Another idea on this topic could be forcing The Shade to be in your world if you're on hard/hardcore difficulty, and/or in a new, more challenging mode, Daunting difficulty. 2. Daunting could be a completely new difficulty setting with multiple different features added, turning the lovely, astonishing sandbox game you know into a horrific, traumatizing horror game. One of the features would obviously be The Shade, and to ease the PTSD of 1.19 players, The Deep Dark and such could be exclusive to this feature (or togglable in normal difficulties). I could probably come up with some more features that could be added to this mode, but I'd rather someone ask for it directly so I don't waste my time typing something no one cares about. 3. Back to The Shade, I feel like some kick ass lore could be associated with this mob. The Shade could have something to do with the Phantom, as that mob's associated with insomnia. And y'all know what happens if you go on without sleep for too long, right? Hallucinations. With the physical attributes, The Shade looks an awful like an Enderman, not to mention the fact it also doesn't like being seen. So what if (sorta following fandom lore) the illagers performed hybrid experiments with a phantom and an enderman, but something went horribly wrong? The Shade was supposed to be another mob belonging to the illager race for battle, possibly flying and being able to teleport around. However, instead of that, the experiments went wrong, and The Shade was born with different abilities. Like the enderman, its body is dark and lanky, however with horrific features, such as a gaping mouth in its chest. This could explain the tears, as it's constantly in physical pain and discomfort. Sorta similarly to the enderman, The Shade doesn't like being seen (for the most part), so it hides when you look at it or vanishes when you get too close. Now, with the phantom, rather than The Shade being attracted to insomnia, it IS insomnia, but 100x worse. It causes visual and auditory hallucinations, as how insomnia (after a few days) would do to you irl. Sadly, I can't rlly explain the transformation. Aside from that, this mob was too powerful for the illagers to contain, and it broke free from the lab. How more were created throughout the Overworld, I couldn't say; just know that if you escaped the grasps of 1, prepare yourself for many more. 4. Apologizing for the extremely long lore, a drop from The Shade could be a "Ghoulish Tear". This item would be used for potions. Combining it with an awkward potion could give you "Potion of Delirium". Alone, this potion is worthless. However, combining it with a direct drop from any mob could 'transform' you into that mob. For example, mixing that potion with Zombie Flesh could give you the appearance of a Zombie, except with white eyes like seen in the video (so players can recognize you). The point of this is that whichever mob you take the shape of, that mob couldn't detect you no matter how close you get, and other hostile mobs could only see you 7% of the usual distance, regardless of armor. The only exceptions are if the mob has already agro'd on you, you take a certain amount of damage or run out of time and lose the appearance, or if you damage the mob. It's worth noting that this potion cannot be crafted into a splash or lingering potion, as that would just make things confusing. 5. So y'all know the F3 stat, Mood? If not, it's a % stat that goes up the longer you're in a confined space, such as a cave. When your Mood reaches 100%, a cave sound will play. My idea is that there's another stat, "Dread". Basically, this stat works similar to Mood, however, instead of the % increasing the longer you're in a cave, Dread would increase constantly when you're below Y level -20, increasing at a faster rate the deeper you're in. When Dread reaches 100%, The Shade will appear from 20-50 blocks away on the X, Z axis and from 0-20 blocks away on the Y axis (meaning it can be 20-53 blocks away). These are all the ideas I have for now. If you actually read these, then holy shit I am SO grateful. These took a decent hour to come up with, and I had so much fun writing these. If you want to add comments or suggestions to fix or add new ideas, then feel free to reply. That's all, have a good rest of your day!

Instead of it transforming into that, I think it would look really scary if he would drop down and start dragging himself forward with his hands but extremely quickly.
damm having that without the transforming and attacking mode and keeping it as more of a just stalker would be cool, maybe it should be more like it only attacks if you go too near of it but also would drop somekind of ghosty material like ectoplasm that could be added on tools or sword to make them glow in its color theme? would love to see such mob as a mod
back in 2019, I wished minecraft horror mods were a thing. then came scape and run parasites, cawe dweller, night dweller, now this... absolute masterpieces.
It's a good idea but only if you make the chances of it spawning very minimal. If it shows up on every world I make and it shows up in only a matter of time it will get very annoying. But say if there's a possibility to generate worlds that have it turned off via a false value. Then it will become more niche and more interesting since it's only possible and not guaranteed.
This feels like horror done right in Minecraft. A mob that pops up out of nowhere and just attacks you relentlessly until you're dead loses its effectiveness after a couple of times and just becomes an annoyance. But the built up to the attack with something like the shade? *chef's kiss* Especially with all different stages and hallucinations. Seems like it would actually make caves scary. If Mojang doesn't revisit this, I'd love to see it as a mod.
I really wish we got something like this over the warden. As the concept of "a mob you're not meant to fight", this is so much better. You don't fight the warden because its strong, but players will always be able to find ways to kill things. Making it stronger is just inviting people to fight it. You don't fight this thing because of how badly it fucks with you. Yeah, you can kill it, but you'll be paranoid the whole time, wondering if it's actually dead. Fake mobs freaking you out, making running the better option. This is way cooler
Ok I had no idea about this now but I'm literally FURIOUS with Mojang for removing this mob, bad enough they've been super lazy with adding a bunch new content for years upon years whereas modders normally put out 10x more a lot sooner in comparison.
That would be so much better! Rather than insomnia basically forcing you to go out of your way sleep, it would actually enhance the game in an optional way
I think some truly terrifying features for the shade just weren't explored enough, especially the transformation part. Imagine for but a moment that, rather than having that big gaping mouth on its stomach and shrinking itself down to use said mouth, what if it pried at its own face, ripping it to reveal the monstrous mouth before it started rushing you down? Add some visceral bone snapping and skittering-esk noises and that's proper horror right there.
I’ve always felt a simple mob that watches you from afar in the caves and disappears when you look away or get close (no aggression or anything that’s it) would do wonders for ambience. These animations look great, you’re very good at this!
It could've been better just to have it stare you, peek from corners and vanish because the attack phase ruins it and basicaly turns it into another Cave Dweller creature.
Th fourlegged transformation should be that the head flips upside down (idk, maybe make it break its own neck or whatever), the mob turns around and bends over backwards so the mouth becomes the back, the head points toward the player (if done correctly the head would be rightside up), and its arms 'break' to get into the correct positions for run-crawling Also im sorry to whoever envisions this correctly and has nightmares
i want a version of this mod for 1.20.1 that only does the peaking and disappearing thing in caves and you can control how likely is it to happen with the cave sounds. Would love to be able to affect spawn parameters so it only spawns very rarely. Would be so cool for servers. Maybe just the blind chase too if youve seen it more than 5 times and are beneath y level -25. Less is more and would be so much scarier and less cheesy
In my opinion having a scary mob in the game like the warden makes the game less scary. For example hearing cave noises is really erie, but if something was making the noise you would be less scared knowing a mob is making the noise. But if a unexplainable noise just plays for no reason, that would be just be scary.
The cave noises lose even more their appeal once you are aware that there is actually nothing making the noise and its just a random thing. If the mob was rare, like REALLY rare this can work
Honestly the four legged transformation could be pulled off pretty well if taking notes from the exorcist, with having it suddenly snap backwards, maybe turn it's head fully around and invert it's limbs. Because of the transformation it would be facing away from you, this could give the player a moment to run as it repositions itself to chase you, maybe even in a slow manner to give you a false sense of security. Add a few echoing bone snapping noises and that, and you've got a terrifying animation.
Could a Sculk version of this be made? Like with souls in its belly like the warden, a bit more cyan coloring while being transparent and appearing specifically in the deep dark or on sculk blocks specifically converted by the sculk catalyst? Would make an interestingly new concept overall. But if you don't fear it, it won't escalate into attacking and actually has a cool down where its hostility lowers after some time again
The idea a mob that ACTUALLY MAKES YOU THINK YOUR INSANE IS SO DAMN COOL, i'd probably shit myself if this was added but damn, imagine the lore behind this fella.
They added the phantom so you HAVE to sleep and they should've added this to avoid players just using fullbright or never using light sources. Phantoms are just annoying and this would be a fun addition
Aaah! The Shade was a mob I was so excited for, your take on it turned out wonderful. From keeping that dark blue/purple coloration, to the behavior of the mob itself. Your solution for the transformation looking goofy was pretty clever too- with the blindness creating panic along with the player not being able to see the oddly-shaped monster coming after them. What I'm about to say is likely out of Mojang's comfort zone for adding spooky/horror elements to the game, but, if they wanted to take another crack at the "transforming phase" not looking goofy- take a *tiny* bit of inspiration from The Thing (old horror film). Could easily make some sort of spindly, makeshift/unnatural-looking limbs come out from asymmetric places along the body. Along with whatever the creature's skin is like being torn/stretched essentially. Apologies if that sounds a little gruesome, but, there are certainly ways to make something like that spooky for sure!
This mob concept fits the cave description perfectly a mob that hunts and punishes the player for staying in the darkness for too long or in the cave for days it’s a great way to one make the phantom more useful in way, the stalker chases the player out of the cave and phantoms are ready to punish the player for not sleeping. I would say there could be an additional feature that makes it so the stalker chases you and teleport you somewhere random in the cave this also has an effect depending how deep you are and could easily get you killed depending where it sends you over all though this is a really got concept and I wish it was actually added to the game
It would be cool if the Shade was like the Phantom which would appear after being too long inside a cave to represent your paranoia, but only one Shade
I love how well you designed & animated this mob! But the idea of its transformation I like is that its head folds back, and the only thing you see is its gaping maw as it stands on its knuckles using its arms as hinde legs to support itself for faster pacing.
I imagine you could have gone creepier with the transformation, like having the head sink into the torso, eyes appear above the mouth, two more sets of arms appear so it's silhouette is more like an insect, then have the torso fold and the teeth become more pronounced so the torso becomes more of a mouth, maybe have a part of it extend back like a snake, and it lets out a roar before attacking, to add to it have it make snapping noises during the transformation. You did good with what you did however.
I always imagined herobrine as being a possessive shapeless spirit that manifestated to the player through hallucinations. Imagine the terror of being silently chased by a hallucination version of yourself, but with glowing eyes slowly draining your sanity as it takes control of your mind and body.
Honestly I really like the ones with the doofy noses. I think that can be pushed into a neat kilroy style creature that mixes absurdity and horror pretty effectively. I especially like the leftmost tone with the asymmetrical eyes
Thank you so much for this video, not only because of how entertaining it was, but because it inspired me to use blockbench and try to make mobs in minecraft. Seriously.
Yo the hush and beckon was good. The fact that nothing else in minecraft can move like that probably helps with how creepy it is. I'm not as into how the hallucinations played out, though.
Scary thing happened to me in minecraft recently, 2 endermen spawned in the darkness of a cave and their eyes lined up so the space in between their eye sockets looked like pupils. Thought a giant ender dragon was in the cave
A very good idea for a "lower tier" hallucination would be to create fake blocks, introducing that distrust and paranoia of your environment. Maybe after you spot it, sometimes a gold or diamond block would actually be just stone that was simply an illusion.
If it wasn't for the whole Cave Dweller Trend, I feel this would have been more impacting. But great job, regardless! You arrived a bit late, oh well. Also nice description, I didn't see what you tried there.

I think for the 4 legged transformation, you could have made it scuttle around instead, maybe make it more feral in pose too.
Dude its animations are so well done (save for the four legged form), and I really love how you did it peeking around walls and trying to lure you
glad you liked it!
my advice for not making the transformation look goofy would be to make it into a four legged creature that moves kinda like the monster from the ring. it could break its neck, making it hang down, have its limbs bend in unatural ways, and all this is happening very suddenly with sounds

This is such a cool mob! Will you release it as a mod? Because I’d absolutely love to play with this thing coming after me
its for bedrock :(
How do you know it's for bedrock? Did he say it in the video?
@@BabyStolasHootHootYou can do emotes in the game, as shown in the video.
No this is not okay I’m gonna turn my pants from white to brown if i ever see this in my game 😭
@@bottleofcat it's not gonna be that bad, okay?
"and here you can see the Shade luring you into a cave" ok but i would IMMEDIATELY follow him, he's so friend shaped guys
5:15 nah bro shade got that William Afton lure💀
Hardly an original concept
Herobrine
I would like to know if you plan to put this up for others to use in modpacks. I really like the concept of this mod, and am pretty bummed to find out it is based on something spooky that could have actually been a thing in Vanilla. I'd love to play this kind of mod.
Here are my ideas for possibly making The Shade an even better concept than it already is. Warning, all the ideas total to over 700 words. Sorry it's so long 😭😭😭
AMAZING!
when a community buddy online doesn Mojang’s job>> (we still love the Warden ofc~)
especially the loreeee
Bro isn't there a way you can give this to the mojang team? I always thought of Minecraft as fun and enjoyable game But I know Minecraft Has an insane potential to be a scary game. The Thought of adding a new difficulty setting based around pure horror Is something I would pay for. You my friend deserve to be recognized for this brilliant idea.
@@B.B.P. Bro that genuinely means so much to me. I honestly hesitated posting the comment cuz I thought it was too unrealistic or silly, but ig I was wrong. @@4rdency no need to thank me bro, an idea as great as this is worth the attention. Any TRUE fan of this game will agree with me, besides you’ll never know until you try. P.s: Don’t give up on the idea man, a wonderful idea like this DESERVES ATTENTION!!
Goofy my ass, if I saw a giant torso mouth booking it at me, I'm screaming and running
Do you plan releasing it as a mod? Looks pretty cool!
Is this available for download this is cool as hell
Do not stop making creepy mobs, I think it's simply fascinating 😲😲
This feels like horror done right in Minecraft. A mob that pops up out of nowhere and just attacks you relentlessly until you're dead loses its effectiveness after a couple of times and just becomes an annoyance. But the built up to the attack with something like the shade? *chef's kiss* Especially with all different stages and hallucinations. Seems like it would actually make caves scary. If Mojang doesn't revisit this, I'd love to see it as a mod.
Imagine installing this on someones computer without telling them
I really wish we got something like this over the warden.
Well, i guess it's time to make a petition to bring this hostility officially to Minecraft
This would be sick I feel it should only happen when you spend to much time in caves
this guy makes the best creations in minecraft ive ever seen, he needs more subs
Thank you so much!!
Ok I had no idea about this now but I'm literally FURIOUS with Mojang for removing this mob, bad enough they've been super lazy with adding a bunch new content for years upon years whereas modders normally put out 10x more a lot sooner in comparison.
This mod is really cool! Now imagine if it was tied into the insomnia effect of the phantom.
That would be so much better! Rather than insomnia basically forcing you to go out of your way sleep, it would actually enhance the game in an optional way
Literally sounds like they were trying to finally add Herobrine into the game.
This mob’s first form reminds me of ‘From the Fog’.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the animation, they are perfect, the way it bounces around gives it a animated feel
If Herobrine was officially included by Mojang in the game, it would look something like this.
Th fourlegged transformation should be that the head flips upside down (idk, maybe make it break its own neck or whatever), the mob turns around and bends over backwards so the mouth becomes the back, the head points toward the player (if done correctly the head would be rightside up), and its arms 'break' to get into the correct positions for run-crawling
Also im sorry to whoever envisions this correctly and has nightmares
This is really interesting. I liked how you used the Snow World music from Yume Nikki at 0:50
You did a great job. I really like the horror concept from the Shade.
Thank you very much!!! glad you like it
i want a version of this mod for 1.20.1 that only does the peaking and disappearing thing in caves and you can control how likely is it to happen with the cave sounds.
I agree with you actually, so im glad the Warden isn't related to the cave sounds, id rather keep the mystery
@@JoshBlueMoon5Uh, yeah, sure, seeming your entire video catalog is based on adding to cave sounds.
The cave noises lose even more their appeal once you are aware that there is actually nothing making the noise and its just a random thing.
If the mob was rare, like REALLY rare this can work
Imagine that mob in the forests at night, it would be some kind of slenderman
This creature is better than cave dweller
Do you make your creations into uploaded mods???
I want to give feedback, you should try making each scary mobs for the dripstone cave biome & the lush cave biome.
If Mojang didn’t scrap this mob, Minecraft would be rated 13+ lol
Could a Sculk version of this be made? Like with souls in its belly like the warden, a bit more cyan coloring while being transparent and appearing specifically in the deep dark or on sculk blocks specifically converted by the sculk catalyst? Would make an interestingly new concept overall. But if you don't fear it, it won't escalate into attacking and actually has a cool down where its hostility lowers after some time again
how can i download this mode ?
1:46 To be honest I think that the B variation looks dope, seems fitting for maybe an ender dweller.
i really hope they add some of these concept art mobs to the new dimension, they mostly look so amazing
"he's just standing there, MENICINGLY" -Patrick
Jow do you make that mob tranparent? It's cool I will make a inspired mob of their idea too.
Awesome video!!! Also I subbed :)
Since it fades as you approach, would it’s hostility be caused by your shooting an arrow at it or using some other ranged attack?
This would have been WAAAAAAY too much work for the Minecraft devs. They only work a couple hours a week after all!
Will this ever be released as a mod? I’d get this in a heartbeat.
Is there any chance this scare and epic creature will be an mod/addon?
It would be cool if the Shade was like the Phantom which would appear after being too long inside a cave to represent your paranoia, but only one Shade
Both of your cave noise mods seem pretty great
I love how well you designed & animated this mob!
Too bad this isn't posted. Think you'd ever publish the mod?
Wow, this mob is amazing!
I think some mob involved with thalassophobia inside caves would be cool!
"Hey, wanna see my head come off?"
All joking aside, you did a fantastic job with Shade, it's very well done!
Minecraft is like DC, the stuff that they are deleting ends up being better than the stuff that they kept
I always imagined herobrine as being a possessive shapeless spirit that manifestated to the player through hallucinations. Imagine the terror of being silently chased by a hallucination version of yourself, but with glowing eyes slowly draining your sanity as it takes control of your mind and body.
it's giving Minecraft Creepypasta vibes and i love it!!
Honestly I really like the ones with the doofy noses. I think that can be pushed into a neat kilroy style creature that mixes absurdity and horror pretty effectively. I especially like the leftmost tone with the asymmetrical eyes
I actually think it was removed cuz people would think it was hero brine so people would uninstall minecraft and they would lose money
Honestly really effective, though if I could suggest something, make the animations feel like its jerking and snapping around suddenly.
Will you publish this pod
are you gonna release this as a addon for bedrock edition or no?
If it wasn't for the whole Cave Dweller Trend, I feel this would have been more impacting.
But great job, regardless!
You arrived a bit late, oh well.
Also nice description, I didn't see what you tried there.
Yeah the description is really weird, gotta put as many keywords in there to get the video ranking high
3:20 ohhh my god! getting this to actually work in such a randomly generated game is CRAZY
This should also spawn after 3 days of no sleep.
bro you should make this a mod fr fr
I really like tying it to the minecraft cave noises, that is properly nightmare inducing.
We want this as a mod !!
Really, cave sounds into monster and this shade.. they really need a mod, you are litteraly better than 80-90% of the developper for mobs...
On java would be better but.. harder, I suppose
