I think the Combat Handbook is going to become the new meta after this video...
agreed
the fishing rod is no joke
The Handbook was not bad
@@josephmoneybags476retired it sucked… also outdated, it’s like from 2015
@@Cinco555WasTaken Everyone knows that Mojang sucks at giving advice on how to play the game... But the fishing rod one is probably one of the only things that actually is good.
15:32 you could also use the fishing rod to place the TNT in a better position when it's about to explote
(known as tnt rodding)
Explote yes agrre I doo
How so? Wouldn't doing that just bring the TNT closer to you?
@@EKPB you could just time it right so that it'd explode infront of your opponent instead of you
@@EKPBso you ignite it Pearl behind them then pull it with the fishing rod
You've inspired me, I'm becoming a fishing rod main from now on

The fishing rod was once the dominent weapon for pvp before 1.8 this is like a Renaissance for old pvp tactics
Yes forgotten tehnichue
Yea but it didnt really work the same it was mostly to get the extra hit
@@Icyy__ it definitely prevented the other person from gaining too much space. It was a spacing tool, which is actually really useful in this case, especially when your enemy is stacked on ender pearls.
The fishing rod is so OP it’s like saying “GET OVER HERE” kind of vibes!
Mortal Kombat fan? Cuz i sure am

Dude it will be insane if someone made an fishing rod overlay based on it
I yelled "GET OVER HERE" at 5 AMin my basement watching this vid
@@back-for-blood-yt lesgoo
You see, back in the old days, fishing rods were widely used in pvp, so was steak. One tip I must add. Always. Get. The Trident.
Is it better? The trident
Are fishing rods not popular anymore?
@@Speed001 I mean not a lot of people use them except in UHC
@@Speed001i mean because of the combat update theres no need for a combo starting tool. Pvp is shield and axes now.
man i remember those days
i wonder why they stopped using em

Let’s be honest, the handbook only taught us about the fishing rod method 😂
No suspicious stew is like a golden apple it gives full saturation which it's also cheap so it's the best food source to so it taught way more. edit HOW TF DID THIS COMMENT START A DEBATE 💀
@@mayfield. the handbook said stew, not suspicious stew.
when it came out there was no such thing as suspicious stew.
@@mayfield. POV: golden apples are disabled, also personally i use a slowness, blindness, poison, and wither stew
idk man the dispensers were pretty powerful
@@Dabbycathahahaha
i love the phenomenon where something is powerful only because its not used. like if fishing rods were the meta they would be easily countered, i mean for one that slot is better used for totems or rockets for crossbow, or a shield, but its being used by a fishing rod. not to mention the pulling back although useful could also have just been a pearl. and the visual obstruction is solved via a resource pack.
anyways yeah i just think its cool that something is good because its not used. it certainly helped in the fight, especially at the end pulling them back when you ran out of pearls
As they say: "security from obscurity"
@@yes_and_so_whatsecure your children from obscurity!
That is how certain historical militaries managed to turn out so successful.
The reason Napoleon managed to conquer so much of Europe so easily is because his strategies weren't expected by his enemies at all. They expected traditional warfare, but he combatted them with his own obscure strategies which caught them off guard, resulting in insanely successful campaigns.
The same happened in WW2. The German military used Blitzkrieg strategies which were, just like with Napoleon's case, so unexpected by their enemies that they managed to conquer Europe using them in less than 3 years. The sheer speed of the tanks and aircraft rushing toward the enemy lines were irrestistable as the enemy armies were prepared for trench warfare, which is designed for long wars of attrition, which the Second World War was the opposite of.
@@FilipSrbin hmmm, while I agree the skilled and unexpected strategies he and his army could implement played an important role in his victories, I would say with Napoleon a lot of it had to do more with the effectiveness of his military bureaucracy and his logistical superiority, and the general superior training and professionalism of his army.
I suppose they also support each other, since with a better organized army with better trained and superior officers it's easier to implement sudden changes in strategy and tactics.
@@FilipSrbin hm i think that for both of those examples although the surprise helped, they were simply superior strategies too. unlike this which is only good because its not expected, if ppl were aware of it it would be trivial to stop (resource pack can be gotten very easily) whereas in ur examples its also not easy to stop even once ur aware.
Absolutely brilliant. I knew you could use fishing rods to trap people, killing them with fall damage. However using them for grapple pvp is revolutionary. Fishing rods are definitely making a come back after this vid.
Slightly a thank God? I usually play modded and I like to use the Fishing rod to yoink people back into my AOE spells from Irons spells and spellbooks
I like how he explained the SMP concept only when it mattered for the story
It's a nice breath of fresh air for sure
The fishing rod really came in clutch during that fight LOL
I agree
NAH HOW DID YOU FIND THIS@@TechnoCane_
i guess we will never know
D:@@TechnoCane_
The fishing rod, er, 'pull-backs'? (idk what they're called) were actually so cool, I never knew fishing rods were that OP. Not only does it counter ender pearls, it half-blinds the enemy. Great video!
Didnt even know that when i first started using the fishing rods, i just used them in creative to pull sheep up into the air and kill them 😂😂😂
I think he had knockback on his fishing rod
@@Friendly_Gknockback on a fishing rod literally doesn't do anything when you hook players in, and you can only apply it in creative.
i feel like logically, pearling should unhook you from the rod. it's kinda weird that the hook teleports with you, but it makes for cool tech
@@xenon.nonexxSame lol
I remember those handbooks! Unfortunately it’s highly outdated so following it in later versions is not the best idea, but at least it worked out for you in the end
This is the demonstration that there are some creators out there that have godlike editing skills and do that for passion, not for money.
godlike? hardly, good? definitely, some really good editing, but saying godlike is a little much

Y'know the fishing rod is like a super underrated item in minecraft. It low key carries a lot of value and players don't seem to understand that, and that has clearly been shown in this video where the combat utility is put to it's full potential.
That was a really goofy fight at the end
Bro I love the editing and pacing of the vid. You tell us the main goal but also keep in interesting parts that connect you back to the goal of the vid. 👏👏
Hmmmm
you have really improved in editing since you started youtube, like this BANGER video is better than all your other ones COMBINED! Great job dabby!
4:51 Can we apreciate that annimation?
Every time I see a fishing rod, I run
every second you aren't running me and my fishing rod are getting closer
Fihsing rods are most helpful in pvp before 1.8 since that combat update made fishing rods less useful against players.
12:12 According to the combat handbook, you should use smite for PVP
Yes, smite..
0:51 bro pulled the cleanest transition of 2023 and thought we wouldn't notice 💀

As someone who just realised that i was doing PVP the way minecraft intended it i see this as an absolute Win

Fishing rods are good for PvP. Use the rod to lower ur opponent armor durability or hook it and attack. Deals more damage
I never knew the fishing rod was that good
Who’s ready for every PvP Legacy kit to contain a fishing rod (Dabbycat what have you done)
I love how the fishing rod is op in 1.8 and 1.19 (1.8.9+)

I'm pretty sure the combat handbook is based on 1.8 pvp and not 1.9 but they could have updated it since the version that I have.
I own the combat handbook too and it's actually so funny. They say not to attack a Skeleton unless you have a Diamond Sword! Man now I wish we could dual-wield in Bedrock edition!
Honestly this vid deserves a sub, absolutely hilarious 🤞🏾

Sapient gamer cat discovers "lost" pvp technique
Edit: Sidenote, the pvp combat handbook does have a few good tips. One of the first things that really started me on getting better at pvp was... well, fighting mobs. Also, mushroom stews are the cheapest way to get potion effects, so like... yeah. Not a bad idea in a pinch. Having a second set of armor would help a lot, as we can see in the fight. He lost a helmet, it was pretty much game over there. The fishing rod is a very valid technique, especially against floaty mobs, but also against players trying to escape. There's several useful tips there, but it takes a sharp mind to read into it enough to learn.
The rods are op in 1.8 and in 1.19 lol.
They're just the best weapon of all time!

Unironically the combat book is a handy reference for when you want to do anything with potions. And that’s about the extent of its usefulness.
This man has good taste in music
I cannot believe the fishing rod slipped out of PVP since I stopped playing- it used to be a common tactic years ago and judging by this video, there was literally no reason for people to stop using it. How such a great tactic slipped away I don't have a clue but seeing it is nostalgic as hell for me.
There's a reason, end crystal goes kaboom
