Both "Most Beautiful Girl" and "Behind Closed Doors" topped the country and pop charts and he won Grammy awards for each. His 3rd biggest hit was "Rolling With the Flow", also a great song but not romantic.
Great song. I double checked, this song actually did cross over and was a number one on the country chart as well as the pop chart, one of the first songs to do that. Interesting side note: look up his appearance at the 1975 CMA Awards, he hurt his career badly by burning the envelope when he announced “outsider” John Denver as the CMA Entertainer of the Year. Lots of speculation why he did it but it’s one of those moments in history that’s cringey but also you can’t help watching. Thanks Tasha, have a great day.
This song is an example of "The Nashville Sound." The Nashville Sound of the 60's and 70's is characterized by full string ensembles replacing the fiddle (or twin fiddles for Western Swing) and a ton of backup singers. It was Country music with added city sophistication. While not fully "traditional", the Nashville Sound was closer to Traditional Country than what is coming out of Nashville today. In reaction to the Nashville Sound taking over Country, Willie, Waylon and several others began recording in Austin, Texas. This became the "Outlaw" scene. While others like Buck Owens and Wynn Stewart established the "Bakersfield Sound" in Bakersfield, California. Thanks to Bakersfield and Outlaws, Country music survived. Chris Stapleton, Jamie Johnson, Cody Jenks and many more are today's Outlaws.
This song was played on FM radio stations. It was main stream hit. I remembered when hit the air waves, it was playing every where. 70s kid here. I grew up in LA area, California.
I recommend some more Rich: Who Will the Next Fool Be, Midnite Blues, Life's Little Ups and Downs, Since I Fell For You, the demo version of Feel Like Going Home, and Road Song. He had a full range of blues, jazz, rockabilly, pop, etc.
Wanna hear Charlie do a song considered Northern Soul? Totally different vibe, no inkling of country at all, good for him to have this range of music. ("Don't Tear Me Down" Charlie Rich)
Great song, I hear just a tinge of Motown in it because of the strings and the back up singers. It was a cross over hit for sure from what I remember. Thanks Tasha. ✌️
Very beautiful song and brought the vibe back into the old school I had a ex boyfriend who told me this but I could not take him back cause he cheated on him
It’s definitely got crossover vibes, but he was a crossover artist. As were guys like Kenny Rogers. No shame in that, IMO. They still made epically beautiful music regardless of which genre might have initially brought you to their work.
We all make mistakes. I held the door for my ex-wife. She truly was the most beautiful girl in the world. I only hope he realized his mistake in time. For me, by the time I realized what I had done, it was too late.
You have to do some more Conway Twitty such as "Take the Ribbon From Your Hair" and "Games that Daddies Play". Also. for a good laugh try Ray Stevens and "The Streak"...
He got his name the Silver Fox because his hair turned white at 23. Charlie Rich was so cool!

Those first two put Charlie on the map.
Behind closed doors is another great one by him
Saw him in Vegas. Good show. The opening act was Olivia Newton-John. She was just starting her career then.
Huge crossover hit when it came out
I used to sing this song to my daughter growing up. Now in her 30s, she still considers it her song.
Love the silver fox! He had such a rich voice. Great song.
A true country CLASSIC! What a voice - he really killed it on this song!

He was actually friends with John. People took it wrong.
The old silver fox and blue eyed country soul were other names he was known as. Charlie was a national treasure
This song did cross over as a matter of fact! It was number one for 2 weeks in 1973, on the pop chart and number one for 3 weeks on the country chart!

Charlie was an Airforce Veteran also.
Tasha incase you didnt know this song did cross over into the pop charts also. In 1974, the song was ranked by Billboard as no. 23.
I saw the title and couldn't remember this song. At first was like... wait, did Prince cover this?... then it played and I thought "ohhhhhh yeaaa"

It was a hit crossover song for him
He was called The Silver Fox and was a beautiful man and a great pianist and singer! ❤

Great singer. Keep on Rollin with the flow.

I can totally relate to this song when messed up
I loved how the concert clothes were a mix of country and SciFi back in the 70s.
So great he sang this song about us! 🤣🤣
🤭
Very beautiful song and brought the vibe back into the old school I had a ex boyfriend who told me this but I could not take him back cause he cheated on him
Ahh! The Silver Fox! Such a great man.
Hey great song TASHA.THANKS
Before he became a country singer, he had a little hit called Mohair Sam. I always liked it.
beautiful voice
He was singing this song for you Tasha!❤

love to see you reaction to Rolling With The Flow
Singing about you! Your hubby is lucky man!
To be fair, she walked out on him but, it's sounds like he opened/held the door. Lol

Charlie started out at Sun Records with Jerry Lee Lewis.
Silver Fox
73 classic.
