I had one too! In 1965, I had a ‘56 Montclair with a lot of rust and a bad transmission. My brother in law had a Medalist with a good body, but a blown engine. We took the Montclair engine and put it in the Medalist. Had it until I shipped off to Marine Corps Boot Camp Parris Island. Since my pay was $89/month, couldn’t afford a car, so I sold it. Wish I had it now.
GREAT VIDEO DAVE!!!! I LOVE YOUR MERCURY BUILD!!!! VERY INSPIRING!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!! TOTALLY AWSOME UPGRADES!!!! I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL AS WELL. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE YOUR TRUTH!!!!
I enjoy your channel cause you're all over the place with what projects you have. One minute a mini truck the next a rock crawler, then to a hotrod. Im the same way, i love it all.
Holy moley!! I love your content. First time I saw you was when Paul from Fab rats ran into you on the trail and you were driving that sick Mazda. Been watching ever since! Don't work too hard and get some rest.
Build the y block for that car! It's a killer build ! Always watch your vids down here in Clarkston Wa. I will be putting together a 57 Ford Fairlane with a supercharged 312 in the near future. I sure hope to see that merc at a local show someday. Keep up the good work!
Gonna be rescuing a 51 Mercury for a friend in a few weeks. Been sitting 20+ years and he is facing some health challenges. I want to get him on our local cruise while it's still an option. Car Therapy is the best and even in spite of everything all he talks about is getting to drive that car.
I like the on the fly feel of this one felt like hanging out with ya in the garage. Thanks for sharing and going through all the efforts doing the dreaded editing
Dave, you had me thinking I was losing my mind, when the valve cover was off I swore I could see the rollers on the rocker arms. I even took a screen shot and zoomed in and saw them. Then you realized they were and I felt better haha
@The Dirthead Shed they are great rockers. I never understood the fancy colors. Not something u really wanna look at again after installing. Your gonna have a bad time if u gotta look and the motors in the vehicle lol
In the 1960s we had a matching pair white and turquoise hardtop and 9 passenger wagon. Both were 312 and really bulletproof transmission, on my brother's practice done this car and the trick was to rev it up all the way and low then shifted to drive and back to low that would achieve second gear well at work great unless you shifted too far and went into reverse which my brother did and man I nearly went through the windshield and was bending over backwards for a second there. Those were the days we had that 9 passenger wagon for sale 4 weeks, then reduce the price to $125 it was straight it was a decent car and ran fine we just got a new one
I don’t know why but I prefer post cars to hardtops…but then again I didn’t grow up in that era so I’m free of the bias. I like all of your wildly different automotive projects!
About two weeks ago. I picked up a 1953 Mercury 255 V-8 engine. It's complete except the fan is missing. The plan is to put it in my 1930 Ford Model A with a body by Murray. The problem is that I'm also restoring a 1967 Ford Mustang Coupe and a 1967 Ford F-100 SWB. I Really need more than 24 hrs. in a day.
You were tiered Dave, when you first open the valve cover I saw that it had roller rockers, you were looking for the bellit style rockers. I understand being that tiered ... keep these videos coming. Cheers!🙂
Those Mercs look real sweet chop top if it's done right, there was this guy that had one not to far from where I live in the California bay area it was blue, the only thing when he was putting in the front windshield it got a crack on the passenger side. He left like that for many year's, everything else on the car was really nice.
@@thedirtheadshed ya, I find myself freezing my ass off a lot, I’m over in Vancouver wa, not far from you, definitely need to retain a snow wheeler as well. Heading to browns camp next weekend on the 11th praying for good weather🥶
Love the Boneyard sweatshirt! I have a shop with no ceiling too (4 foot o.c. trusses) just outside Springfield, OR. Maybe a short video on how you are insulating and heating yours?
Your comet build changed my perspective. I had a Vic-clip swap in mind for my 56 Vic. But I love everything toyota. I think it would help my 390FE-swap header clearance issues along with all the coolness you mention. Thanks again, keep it up.
Dave you are awesome! Love the thing with the roller rockers I’ve had similar experiences showing someone something, only to realize that I apparently dreamed it🤣
I always like the 1956 Mercury. I could have bought a 4 door original owner back in 1985 off this old lady for $800 but I couldn't come up with money in time. My friend bought it before I could come up with the money. $800 was a lot of money for a 16 year old kid in 1985 could have barrow off my Pop's but I would have paid out working for him way over $800.
Very cool car man. I knew you were a dirt head and mini truck guy, I remember your comet but I didn't think this was in your wheelhouse. I like it a lot.
@@thedirtheadshed same here! Mines been off the road for 6-7 years.. took it off the road to swapped it to a t5 transmission. Now need to get it back on the road.. then maybe rust repair and paint
Brother, I am so excited that you gave us a bit of history on this car. When you start to get some progress done on this machine, bring us along, big guy. Have a great weekend, brother. It's time for the wife and I to get some work done on the chevelle.
Sweet old ride. Cool what you have planned for it. That old Y block would look sweet in an old rat rod, slammed, no fenders and rusty cab. Cool old school
You sir have a very diverse automotive palette. I appreciate that.
Thanks! I like them all
Just pullin ur leg. Im a hot rodder. Once in your blood, no turning back. Something about the sound of a hot engine makes me smile. Love em.
That Merc is the truth man. Love to see you get it back in action.
Thanks!
Glad to see the cameo on MotorTrend but your content on UA-cam is killing it.

Love those late 40's early 50's merc's they are just rolling art.
Totally are
The motor bit at the end was hilarious.
