@@GCBlues45 Not likely. (And the company's name was Hatos-Hall, but those shows (Let's Make a Deal' and Split Second) are now owned by another entity.) When last heard of, the rights to Ralph Andrews' shows had been acquired by Mark Phillips Philms & Telephision. The 80s version of Liars Club had been a Golden West Television Production in association with Four Star Television; in mid-season Blair Murdoch had taken over production.
This needs to get brought out of the vault and shown on Buzzr, absolute GOLD. Allegedly, 20th Television had the rights for a while, but not sure if that’s still true. Betty is a GOOD liar and could fool anyone at all if she needed to as you’d never know she was leading you on. I swear, she’s every bit as sharp today as she was back then. Allen’s forte, of course, was always Password, but he had the personality to pull off stuff that was out of his usual comfort zone. Buddy was probably making the censors *really* nervous in that first segment lol...he was a genius.
Allen Ludden had been off from Password for two years so he had plenty of down time to fill before returning back to the retooled Password Plus once Liar's Club came to a close after 3 seasons.
meyerj75 meyerj75 Aside from Stumpers and Liar’s Club, he did tape some pilots, and he was also doing some theater and TV work at the time, including Love Boat. Also, he and Grant Tinker had a production company together called Elltee that they were both busy with. He also did a lot of consulting work on the side for people too. Allen never sat still, ever. His work and his family were the two things that always kept him grounded.
R.I.P., Ralph Andrews, producer and creator of Liars Club, Lingo, You Don't Say!, 50 Grand Slam, Celebrity Sweepstakes, I'll Bet ((revived as It's Your Bet) and many more.
Seeing Buddy Hackett made me think of game shows like The Match Game. The world wasn't so pc sensitive back then. Some of the answers they gave on game shows and in their stand up material, would make people cringe today. They give you a taste of it right here on this very show. :) Wow did I miss the 3rd items description.
Make Me Laugh and Liar's Club both aired in the Louisville area, but on the following different stations: -WHAS Channel 11 and WDRB Channel 41 (both for Liar's Club) -WLKY Channel 32 (for Make Me Laugh)
I used to watched this show on USA since I was a kid. I've just notice at the very end of the show, it had the 20th Television Fox logo with the "Distributed By" tag on the slide. This is indeed rare, but you don't see those anymore. It was plastered by the Four Star logo from 1984 which was one of the last logos ever existed. "JohnnyL80" posted that here. Four Star Entertainment Logo (1984) "Higher Quality Version"
I remember catching a couple of episodes as a kid. Fun thing seeing this now is that I've had a long career in antiques and collectibles of this odd sort, and even without knowing what it was, I knew what it was. Wish I could see more to see how well I could guess.
I remember one episode of LC with Buddy Hackett; every object they presented on that epidode, Hackett called it a Bottle Corker.. He was right on HALF of them!
I'm more familiar with the Bill Armstrong version of the show since the USA network only aired the ones from the local 1974-5 and first season (1976-7) despite being out of sequence and poorly displayed. I assume the network didn't get around to airing the Ludden hosted episodes because the ratings weren't as high as USA wanted to be, so they dropped the show from their game show lineup. But watching something like this is a rare treat.
This show must have been syndicated. The blank space between segments is two minutes and two seconds long. Television stations would insert their commercials during this time.
Buddy Hackett -- the voice of Scuttle -- the same guy who was telling Ariel goofy explanations about what a fork and a pipe were for... I see where he got his ideas!!
Thanks so much for posting this. I loved this back in the day. I think Ludden was a great PASSWORD host but hosting or appearing on other shows such as TATTLETALES puts his limitations right out front. LOL! He shoud've stayed with the PASSWORD franchise. IMO the Armstrong version was the better show, albeit a bit more dull. The Rod Serling version was excellent, with Rod showing a very humorous side of his personality.
Betty White wore a ring on this show that spun. It wasn’t a prop for the show. I just always thought it was pretty cool but it looked like a fancy mepps fishing lure. Hey I’m a guy what do I know.🤣
+Eric Taylor Well @ least they didn't discontinue male contestants. Otherwise, it would;ve been, "Like Husband. Like Wife." A 5 year gap between Liar's Club to Just Men!
I've seen male contestants on the show in the past. But if you remember "The New Treasure Hunt" they only had all female contestants on stage and no males.
Ahhh the 70’s ...when you would take the ugliest patterned table cloth and make a suit jacket out of it....what were they thinking and who were the fashion designers of the day!
Betty White is the only of the celebs still alive. The Bill Armstrong season of this version of Liars' Club aired on USA in 1986-87, but the Ludden shows haven't aired since their original broadcast. This is considered a rare find these days, despite Ludden doing two seasons of this show, and it was a daily syndicated show(some stations did air it only once or twice a week). Matthew Andrews is the person who posted this, would he be related to producer Ralph Andrews?
What creepy crap. This is everything about the 70's that I hated. I remember seeing this when I was about 6 years old and feeling all weirded out by the decor, the clothes, the banter. What a relief when skinny ties came back into fashion.
my favorite lets play channel!
Oh wow! I remember this show .My whole family used to watch it .Very unique game show 👍
I used to watch this show every day. It was fun. Love the 70's commercials. Nice seeing Peter Haskell here ;)
Liars Club Crime Counter:
wait a minute where is everyone
Would love to see more of Liars Club! I wonder who owns the rights these days.
Most likely Freemantle owns the rights to it. Since they bought so many production companies like Goodson,Grundy,Hall/Hadus & more

@@abcwatermarkAny indication that Liars Club can be shown on Buzzr?
I miss game shows from the 70's where a consolation prize was a year's supply of rice a roni
Or Turtle Wax which figured out as a teenager was only one bottle.
Today would have rice-a-roni, noodle-roni and pasta-roni

Betty White was the show's greatest weapon. She could tell the biggest whoppers with the most innocent smile on her face.....
She was a multi talented gorgeous lady

abcwatermark all those shows were very good - all were a bit.. 'quirky' (compared to the standard network fare). Thanks for the info.
And Truth or Consequences as he hosted before he hired Bob Barker as host.
I used to watch this a lot when it was on originally. Side note, Allen Ludden is buried in Mineral Point WI at Ludden Lake.
Great show! Betty White looks the same and she's probably the only person who's still alive.
Great old show!
I really liked this show.
This brings back many memories.

This show was great. Another one I loved from that time - Make Me Laugh (comedians had 1min to cause the contestant to laugh). It was very funny.
Make Me Laugh and Liar's Club both aired in the Louisville area, but on the following different stations:
-WHAS Channel 11 and WDRB Channel 41 (both for Liar's Club)

In New York City, Make Me Laugh aired on WPIX 11 really late and WOR 9 aired Liar's Club around prime time hours.

I find this serie is so good
I miss this show!
Thank you!!! Wonderful!!!
Betty looks totally horrified when Buddy is talking about dragging a bull by its nose ring.
First game I ever tried to get in it was held in Hollywood CA around 1974
Chase looks different here
Wish they'd bring this show back.
Good show, surprised it didn't last longer.
I was on this show in March 1978 and won. Is there anywhere where I might find my episode to show my kids?

RIP Betty Marion White Ludden (1922-2021)
Numbers turned from left to right--counterclockwise! Some game shows had them turned in the other direction--and that was the 70's!
Allen Ellsworth Ludden (born Allen Packard Ellsworth; October 5, 1917 - June 9, 1981)
Buddy Hackett: the original “I said what the fuck I said”.
I love the 70s "fern bar" set.
Who else remembers David Letterman on this show? He was hilarious 😆
They need back the show.
Gotta love Buddy Hackett!!

Haha. Not even close. Read up on him.

norelco pc yes, it was syndicated. I loved it. But, as one who liked it knows, it would show up sporadically over the years.
2 & 2 as Wollery said a lot.
It was syndicated and back then there were no national commercials like in the 1980s.

From 1978.
RIP Betty White.....the last of the Mohicans
*it's as if Betty's thinking, **6:37** "What in the fuck are you on about, idiot"*
I tried out for this game show unfortunately never got on
A ladies sweep equals a Betty White delight! Face it, this show hated male contestants!
+QBCNetwork Wow you figured that out by watching a single episode. You must be super smart!

Whens the next episode of pokemon emerald
New skin is a lot older than I thought.
"What!" No airfare?
Betty White. The only one still with us at 99 years young.
No passed away new years eve 2021
Dorothy had rather a grave demeanor for a game show contestant. I'd say she was having a miserable time until she won the third round.
It's a shame the commercials were cut and only a black screen is left.
There were no commercials in the syndicated Liars Club. The stations inserted them locally.
