I have an Atari 5200, and yes the 2600 adapter was released, it just didn't do that well since the 5200 had such a short lifespan. With most 5200 games being ports of the already popular Atari 400/800 computer line, the computers got more attention from Atari, especially once the company was bought out by Tramiel. The 7800 being released with native 2600 backward compatibility pretty much killed any need for the 5200-2600 adapter, and the final nail was the 2600 Jr.'s release continuing the 2600's life as a bargain console. There were just so many ways to play 2600 already, an adapter for Atari's least popular console was hardly worthwhile. As it pertains to Pac-Man though, literally every Atari port of Pac-Man was superior to their first 2600 release. Atari even includes a better port of 2600 Pac-Man on their flashback consoles.
