While there are a lot of older boys and teens who actually did prefer watching disney princess either because of the unique fairy tale artsyles , having a soft spot for nostalgic comfort watch movies or because of the classical lore those movies had , and you had to admit maleficent was a pretty menacing villain in sleeping beauty for a "typical girl's movie" like these hack execs and marketing department would claim. As well as several boys growing up watching shoujo anime like cardcaptor sakura , pre cure , magical lyrical girl nanoha , inuyasha and sailor moon which were typical aimed at younger girls.

Wait. So the idea was “this personality would be more interesting on a male character” and then on reworking “as a male character, we think this personality is weird for a boy and so we want to change the personality to be more acceptable.” Like…how does that happen??
When they are paying employees to sterilize their Gay children, it makes perfect sense. It explains why the movie is so bad. It is part of their agenda to reinforce oppressive sexual stereotypes and profit off of the low self-esteem of others.

As much as I would have preferred the female version of the character, I understand the logic that it would be worse for a male to be small and fearful, because of society's expectations of different people due to such arbitrary factors. But then those same expectations messed up the concept of the movie, proving the critique inherent to that choice right while erasing it from the movie.
It happened not because they thought the personality would ACTUALLY be interesting on a boy

Director Mark Dindal still looks at the original work he made before the executives such as Michael Eisner and David Stainton made him change it because they thought it needed a different approach as explained on the DVD’s making-of featurette which supported the idea.

*Cats Don’t Dance* was a good movie and I’m sorry more people didn’t see it in theaters. My dad took my sisters and I to see it when it came out and I loved it. Then we all went to see this and I hated it. I can’t believe they have the same Director.

You know, at this point, I wonder if executives should have this much privilege in the film-making process. The writers rely on instinct to make a good movie, and the executives just waltz in playing an out-of-tune trombone during an orchestral performance. I mean, not all of them are bad, but there is a certain level of trust you need to put into your animators that they are doing something people will like.
@@92JazzQueen I don’t even think they should have had any villain at all. It would have been a nice movie on its own of a kid trying to defeat their fears. The problem is worst case scenario, and suddenly having the worst case scenario actually come true would cause a backtracking of his/her personality (the movie would still be doable with a male character and might even be more compelling).
Thing is Shrek may have been influential on 2000's animation, but Shrek was not to blame for the 2000's being arguably the most hated decade for the medium. Shrek was at least good. Society was to blame cause they took the wrong lessons from "Shrek" when it came to making successful 3D animation.

As someone who actually saw the film when I was little, I genuinely feel bad that THIS could've been that part of my childhood; not only did the og version seem like a downright better film than the one we got, but the possible ADHD & anxiety rep would've been really nice as an anxious person w/ ADHD! It could've been so gd cute!! 😭
You have to consider the times. The mid 2000s in North America were brutal, things like emotions and vulnerabilty were seen as laughable and weaknesses, it's the reason why those values started to be defended and taken seriously from the 2010s onwards

Being woke isn't a new thing just because the rest of the world decided to catch up. It's called progress and it's been happening since before the 2000's (2010 and onwards still had movies depicting strong men who didn't show their feelings)
Just a correction here: the version of Disney's Chicken Little as a female character was also named Chicken Little, not Henny Penny. The main character from the Chicken Little fable can be either male or female.
Three more corrections based around the fable:
1) In versions of it named "Chicken Little", Henny Penny is usually the name of the first bird, a hen BTW, that the protagonist warns about the sky falling.
2) While the character of Chicken Little is portrayed in illustrated versions either as a chick or a grown-up hen (although most versions go with the former), when the protagonist is named Henny Penny it's most of the time portrayed as an actual hen. It's only in a very few versions that can be counted by the fingers of one hand (like, Chicken Little nerd time, in the book "The Three Little Pigs and Other Favorite Nursery Stories" by Charlotte Voake or in the "Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child" episode based on the fable) that Henny Penny is portrayed as a chick protagonist.
3) The plan of warning the farmer/king is thought at first by Chicken Little/Henny Penny immediately after getting hit by the acorn, not after creating panic among her friends. Also, the McGuffin human being a farmer happens also in very few modern versions, e.g. one written by Rita Walsh and published by Merrigold Press Tell-a-Tale Books.

In the same documentary from which they say that, they also mention that Chicken Little as a girl would be "more unlikely as a character to save the world" when the camp storyline didn't have anything related to saving the world.

I really liked this movie as a kid, but watching it as an adult is strange. Chicken Little's dad is an awful father. And honestly, I feel like nobody talks about it but I hate that the movie acted like it was okay for the pig to keep Foxy Loxy essentially brain damaged. That seems like a nonconsensual relationship vibe to me. IDk that bit bugs me a lot. I also love that original idea with the little girl chicken, it seems like that would've been a super cute movie :(

@@marmolejomartinezjoseemili9043 it’s the nostalgia. You get good memories associated with things like movies as a kid and then as an adult you want that good feeling again. And really as strange and full of issues as the movie is, I do still enjoy watching it! It’s stupid but I like watching things and turning off my brain sometimes.

There's many ideas/lessons people learned from Shrek being the watershed film it was. Executives always thought it was the star power, crude humor, and pop culture references. They thought that using those things they would have the perfect formula for profit. The lesson they should've learned however was that you need quality, dynamic characters; As well as a decent story to tie it all together with. You need the latter to tie together with the former otherwise you just have, well not much I guess.

The reason why Shrek worked is not because of the star power and pop culture, it is because Shrek is a deconstructive parody to fairy tale stories as a jab to Disney movies and it works.
Deconstructing a genre or a trope makes it feels like a fresh air.
What happened to Chicken little was just tragic. And as much as I love Shrek, it unfortunately set a dangerous precedent for animated films that came after.
Shrek was brilliant for its time because it had the balls to criticize Disney's harmful movie tropes. Think it about it this way if it wasn't for the existence of Shrek. Films like Brave, Tangled, Encanto, Princess and the frog and Moana wouldn't exist. I should also point out Enchanted because it's basically a parody of every Disney princess movie ever which is basically a Disney film mocking itself.

Bad movies that came out in the 2000's that learned the wrong lessons from Shrek. And you'll have to forgive my ignorance, but I never saw Brave, Princess and the Frog, Moana, or Encanto. I don't know what those films took away from Shrek because I didn't really care about them when they came out.

I'll admit, I thought the alien idea worth the sky falling was clever, as a kid, and in a vacuum I still think it could be done well. Like, boy who cried wolf thing, except instead of a moral about not being attention seeing or shit stirring for the fuck of it, it's more a tragedy about how it can be difficult to separate irrational anxiety from clear and present danger.
Maybe it's been long enough since this movie that someone could get away with doing it now, but I think another 10y would be better.
True, i actually hadnt really thought about this movie as a bad movie until reviewers started talking about how it was bad, and im guessing the main reason was because, honestly, the alien and space part of the movie is like reallly interesting and diferent, like, you might say not all alien thigs are good, and i would agree that the og movie was better without them, but like, aliens being allready in a planet, like, so many of these aliens allready having conquered it yet no one realises this is very interesting, and i think a good deep topic that could be implemented could be how as children a lot of people treat us as dumb when were defenetly smarter than they realise, and also generally about skepticism, having an open mind and whether we should or should not prove ideas even when they seem to weird to be true

Separating irrational anxiety from true danger is in real life a very complicated and complex thing to manage. There's a reason why people who suffer from this take a very long time to get better. It would be great if a movie tackled these things in a way kids could understand, but if there's something Steven Universe's mixed bag of writing has taught, is that you need to be VERY careful how you tackle heavy subjects in a medium that simplifies things because of time constraints and the already unfair prejudice of animation being just for kids
The Matrix and They Live were also good for the whole Aliens have already conquered thing.
I've always seen people rant about the failings of Chicken Little. But this is one of the better videos explaining its failings in a holistic fashion.
Fact: Chicken Little was dedicated to legendary Disney stalwart Joe Grant, who had worked there on-and-off for decades as both an artist and story-writer, who tragically passed away as the movie was wrapping up production.
He must have died of embarrassment when he saw the direction it was going in. It must’ve also finished off Don Knotts because this was his last movie and he died shortly thereafter.
The fall of Disney animation in the early 2000s always fascinates me. Filled with betrayal, tragedy and even revenge. it sounds like a work of fiction except it was real.

The 2000s Era for Disney isn't significant for new movies but the Best is the Pixar Films at the time. Every era has the best & worst Movies, especially in animation. Don Bluth's Not-So-Great films happened in the 90s. No Era was completely significant, some things got better, some other got worse.
They made a lot of money with a cartoon musical about singing animals loosely based on Elizabethan tragedy, then they turned the whole department into one!

There, I said it. You’d think *Rock-a-Doodle* would have taken advantage of post- *Pete’s Dragon* advances in the mixing of live footage with animation but it did not, especially after *Who Framed Roger Rabbit* set new standards for this. He didn’t count on Disney coming back as big as they did, and that’s why his concurrent features felt “off” somehow. MGM/UA going bankrupt and the fallout over the death of Judith Barsi (the voice of Anne-Marie in *All Dogs Go To Heaven* ) didn’t help things. At least his Fox years looked like a return to form. *Anastasia* was his way of saying “okay Disney, you win this battle, but the war is not over.” Disney giving up traditional animation was surrendering not just in this war, but surrendering its soul altogether. That’s why it’s futile to complain about the recycled animation in *Robin Hood.* They cut back on it subsequently. That’s why ending the sequel to Wreck-It Ralph with a Rick Roll is just rubbing in the cold-blooded murder of Disney animation at its own hands: Rick Astley is credited as a backup singer on the OG *Lion King* soundtrack.
I wish they could remake the original movie idea with the original characters and story elements and stuff, it could have been such a cute and inspiring movie
NGL, I would've loved to see Penny and boy!Ugly Duckling growing closer over the course of summer camp. Sounds like a good family and date movie alike.

I think it’s an ingrained social construct.
I mean “little lady” or “such a tiny little thing” are sayings associated with women and often we in are described as the “fairer” and daintier sex.
Men are macho. Big, strong…. So if they aren’t- they are often belittled for it. They’re effeminate, weak and etc.
So I get it honestly. But yeah no. It’s still a stupid concept to make anyone think that physical attributes that aren’t an Olympian ideal makes you unworthy of any kind of respect or whatever.

I'd personally interpret the original films main character as having severe ADHD because I have severe ADHD and when I was younger I used to think that there were things hiding under the tables and couches and stuff. So atelly bad case of ADHD makes more sense to me.
Edit: Also, ADHD gets diagnosed much less for girls and so it being labeled/mistaken for an over active imagination

Having a vivid imagination isn't inherently ADHD. Henny Penny was anxious due to her imagination and creativity making her imagine things that aren't true. Which is very common in little kids since they don't know how the world works yet

It's funny, the Henny Penny I read as a little one was about a chicken who tries to get the other animals to help her through the process of baking bread, but they don't wanna help her pick and grind grain or mix ingredients. She leaves said and says "I'll just do it myself ". So when the bread is ready and the other animals suddenly wanna help her eat the bread, she ignores them and says "I guess I'll have to eat it myself" with the lesson of the fable being about reciprocity and not feeling entitled to the labor of others, especially if you're mean to them

The reason I was screwed up as a kid was because of my constant watching of Chicken Little. My lack of a girlfriend stems from Chicken Little. The worst aspects of my life all started with my first viewing of Chicken Little.

As someone in the US I think another possible reason Henny Penny was replaced with Chicken Little was probably that of the 2 variants of the classical fable character Chicken Little even before this movie released was more well known here (Albeit still probably not very well known compared to more popular fables) and since Disney is a US based company and was at the time still focused on the US as their main demographic it made sense but as for everything else about the movie I guess those things can just be chalked up to trying to copy the success of Shrek to very mixed results. It's definitely not a good movie but as a kid I enjoyed it and as an adult I'm now able to look at these things more critically.

I think theres a reason to why so many of us remember it being so good: in the movie, the protagonist isnt heard, aknowledged and even considered like once when he sais that the shy is falling, and this creates a very interesting theme which is the theme of "skepticism" and "open minds" and generally about believeing people, in a diferent way than the original story yet an interesting and good way non the less,
now obviouslly the movie doesnt actually go deep into this so its not like this saves the movie, but its still an interesting thing non the less,
oh and obviouslly the pop culture references and songs and how reletable chicken little is in terms of people not beleiving in you

I honestly kind of liked Chicken Little when it first came out because mainstream children's media depicting nerds like me and their nerdy, unpopular friends was in woefully-short supply at the time. In retrospect, it feels like a mean-spirited, cynical Dreamworks clone with broken morals, a homophobic subtext, and (credit where it's due) a bangin' soundtrack, and awkward nerds have ample and better representation now.
Not tryna say its good, but for a movie with a lot of bad desitions, its very entertaining, the aliens are cute (even if they are evil), the plot of the falling sky is interesting and ithe main character is in some ways relatable and i like the themes of people not believing you, so honeslty i can defenetly see why you as a kid would like it, just as so much of us

I'm surprised that you mentioned "Happily Ever After: A Story For Every Child". People barely talk about it which is ashamed as it was a good show. Even if it makes DreamWorks blush with all the pop culture references and guest stars. Seriously, making a drinking game out of who's starring in an episode will kill you in an hour.
Ironically, many of the actors were or would be Disney alumni like the voices of Rafiki and Nani. Same with DreamWorks alumni too with Will Smith and Chris Rock being in the Pinocchio episode...and I just made myself sad.
I’ll admit while I don’t really hate the Chicken Little we got, this early version from everything I’ve seen so far honestly looks amazing and really seems like something that’s right up my ally in terms of storytelling, as this early version honestly just looks like the type of movie that was made for me, along with the kinda story I would probably write, it has a society of animals as our main characters, it’s down to earth and relatable, it has very likable characters, it’s very warm, and wholesome, and it overall actually feels more like a Disney movie than the final version does, and I’m not gonna lie if this early version had actually been made there’s a chance it possibly could have been possibly one of my top 10 personal favorite movies from the Disney animated canon, and I guess I have something else to add on my list on cancelled Disney movies I wish would have been made, up there with My Peoples, Kingdom of the Sun, Musicana, Where the Wild Things Are, Chanticleer, Mort, Peter Rabbit, and a couple of others, I would just like to say that Michael Eisner and David Stainton really did done Mark Dindal dirty when scrapping this early version
I really love this version of the main character of Chicken Little as I find her quirky flawed personality a lot more interesting and relatable then the Chicken Little in the final version (though he is definitely one of the things I like the movie we got) as her paranoia of everything and her high maintenance personality honestly just speaks to me more than the final version and really just seems like the type of character that’s right up my alley and a lot like the type of characters I would usually write, I also really love the father in this version as despite being clearly very flawed in his parental abilities you can tell in this that he’s trying his best to help take care of his special child and their relationship is just really sweet and wholesome and is easily way better then the in the version we got who was just neglectful and ashamed of if his special child, I also like how this version actually has an alive mother which honestly helps add more to the down to earth relatability to this family
Now I don’t hate the final version of Chicken Little as much as everyone else does but when you compare that movie to the type of movie we could have gotten it’s a little upsetting and really does sting a little bit seeing how really incredible this original version was and how much potential for an even better movie was completely lost by corporate meddling, and it’s very clear with this early version along with a recent article that director Mark Dindal had far more love and more passion put into this version than he did with the final draft, and I’ve heard that when Mark Dindal was developing this early version he took a lot of heavily inspiration from being a father with his own daughters which I feel just further adds to warm relatability of this version, though not to say that there was no love or passion put into the final draft of the film since I’m pretty sure there clearly was, but it’s very clear that the final draft was mostly the result of executive meddling and was a bunch of random ideas that kept being thrown against the wall until the Disney execs were satisfied with something, and I’ve heard a rumor somewhere that Mark Dindal himself looks back very fondly on this original version and wished he had it things his way with making this version, and it’s a real darn that this was never made as I feel like this early version could have been Mark Dindal’s magnum opus
Though who knows maybe in the future we can have this original version be brought in someway, it be turned into an illustrated storybook, we could have everything involving the early development of this version and stitched together into one coherent narrative and released somewhere, or the original version can be just remade whether in 3D animation or better yet have it be remade in hand drawn animation (I know that will likely never happen but a guy can dream can’t he) and just say that that Holly Hunter’s Chicken Little is the cousin of Zach Braff’s Chicken Little and that Buck Cluck has twin brother or something named Chuck Cluck (which I heard is what they were originally gonna name him), I don’t know just give us this original version in some form somehow.
I think in general its just that some ideas that differed from the original were too easilly let in by the creators instead of actually critiquing them, though maybe its not that much fault of them, idk
Fun fact: This was the last Disney movie to be printed on VHS and it was only available through the Disney Movie Club making it one of the rarest Disney VHS tapes. Right up there with Song of the South.
Something really bugs me about the whole "its more difficult to be smaller if you're a boy" thing- im 17 and 4'9" and was born female and my ENTIRE life ive felt something was wrong with me and have even gotten tested for disabilities like dwarfism and such so i promise you Disney there is no real difference =_=

Men are expected to be big and strong, and they're expected to do a whole lot more physical stuff. Women are expected to be small weak, and get looked after by big strong men. Thus men suffer more for being small and weak than women do, due to societal expectations.

I've been looking forward to this 'cause I have a love/hate relationship with Chicken Little. I found the film absolutely fascinating as a child so I'm still nostalgic for it, but on the other hand I kinda despise everything it represents lol.
One thing I don't think ever sat well with me even as a kid was what happened to Foxy Loxy. I didn't fully get its horrifying implications back then like I do now, but it still came off as wrong.
Interestingly, as a kid I didn't understand that Foxy Loxy's personality swap was an accident, but instead I figured that the aliens purposely brainwashed their prisoners in their darkroom space limbo, frying their brains and changing their personalities. I partially drew this conclusion from the fact that the other prisoners shown in the movie didn't seem to have their wits about them like Chicken Little and Buck Cluck did, meaning that _something_ had happened to them off-screen. Either the aliens did something to them directly, or it was a purposeful intended consequence of extended time in the darkroom space limbo. Either way this made the aliens seem even more horrifying, and consequently I never saw them as good because good people don't casually _brainwash_ other people. This was the cherry on top of the rest of their heinous acts that couldn't be waved away with a simple "it was a misunderstanding".
Assuming these aliens were purposely brainwashing people, it actually makes sense for them to brainwash prisoners the way they brainwashed Foxy Loxy, because Foxy Loxy was changed from being aggressive to passive. They could simply brainwash the aggression away from anyone they deemed an enemy. That's messed up.
(Younger me had interpreted her thumb-sucking in the space limbo as part of her personality swap because it seemed out of character for her, which helped solidify the whole "the aliens brainwash people in the dark limbo place" idea, but IIRC the film might've implied that her personality swap happened when they teleported her back).
Of course in the film it's stated that Foxy Loxy's predicament was unintentional, but that just changes the circumstances from "aliens committing human rights violations" to "aliens complacent with human rights violations", which isn't much better at all lol.
i think the film is interesting even if its a bad film, like, a child not being believed and or acknowledged by his town even when he realises something bad is happening is like, really interesting y know?
Like, maybe its just me, but i think the theme of open mindedness and not beleiving in crazy theories is very interesting and if this movie was made in a better way, this could have been so interesting and had an actually really deep message about society

That basic premise you laid out is actually not too far off from the original idea for the film.
It also sounds like a really good set up for a spooky horror story. The kind that has a slow-burn and creates an unsettling feel in seemingly normal situations, with a sense of increasing peril and a lurking threat.
"When the town of Whateverburg is suddenly beset with strange happenings, Henny Penny, a chicken girl with an overactive imagination and crippling anxiety, is the only one to notice. As the situation in the town grows darker and more dangerous, and the townspeople continuously seem to ignore the growing peril, it's up to Henny and her few friends to get to the bottom of this mystery before it's too late." Honestly with that kind of premise the aliens would've made sense lol.

I say we have the Henny Penny movie now. The film we got is such a completely different product, it wouldn't even have to retread that . much ground.
Eisner really hammered in the final nail in the coffin that was his time at Disney with how badly he botched Mark Dindal’s original vision for the film.
Similar to how Dindal himself would botch Roger Allers original version of The Emperors New Groove (which was called Kingdom Of The Sun).

i think if they had explored the theme of belief and skepticism and being open minded more deeply in the movie, the movie would have been fantastic, because in this internet day and age, skepticism and having an open mind, and knowing what to believe and what not to is kind of hard and beliefs and facts in general are something really interesting if you delve deep into them

My favorite part in all of your videos is your slow burning original story about a man gripped with insanity talking about children’s TV shows and movies seemingly trying to avoid the subject of why they see and hear things with his ADHD brain. All of your characters are so interesting and funny even though we barely get to see any of them. (Which helps with their overall development) You guys are doing a great job and this channel is highly underrated.

I mean, you heard of the story/trope "The boy who call wolf" and this movie put the twist on that trope by making it "yeah, this boy did found a "wolf", it just the people dont believe him" and it a movie how the boy have to live with "ashame over lying about the wolf" and after he found a way to lift up from that blame, his past hunted him again. You would think that he would keep it as a secret and put "it" under the rug but nope. The next thing he do is call his friends and decide to show that it real, even it cost all his hard work to prove to his father that he is able to do great things.
Even thought a lot of people dont really like this movie, i like it because how it aviod a lot cliche that you found in regular movie....

I've never seen the story of chicken little (Henny Penny) twisted into bravery. It was always more of a "calm the fuck down and think" kind of story
I have said this before and will continue when I feel appropriate: The way they did Foxy Loxy dirty in that film makes me snort with indignation. They gave her a serviceable charecter in the film, but was brushed aside till about the end and then the fate they leave her on is just twisted, and I'm someone who enjoys charecter hypnosis and brainwashing plots. Add that to the FL lineage from the original short where that Loxy is just about the only Disney villain to succeed in thier goal with zero caveats and this particular villain lover just sighs.
I think its because the writers of a lot of childrens stuff treat villains as punching bags or jokes, i hope we get less of that now

Honestly I wish that the Henny Penny fable (or even the old plot before chicken little got botched) would get its own film, not a Disney film but like any other animation that’ll respect and appreciate the simple yet beautiful fable into filmography. Maybe Laika, Don Bluth, or even Sony, because those studios while they hit or Miss their movies they aren’t afraid of taking creative liberties and adapting a simple idea to a beautiful creation!

Great video analyzing Disney's emo faze! I never liked this movie as a kid, probably due to the tonal and plot whiplashes I was receiving time and time again. Above all else I would kill for more lore behind the characters producing this. I like the questions that pop up whenever I see them, give them more screen time please!
In my opinion, if the wolf plot was kept, we would have ended up with a well-executed unofficial installment of The Jim Henson Company's Unstable Fables movies (yet another Shrek-wannabe that consisted on the movies 3 Pigs and a Baby, Tortoise vs Hare and The Goldilocks and the Three Bears Show). The final Chicken Little movie feels like a scrapped Unstable Fables movie that got an alien subplot forcefully added on its already convoluted plot.
Huh… interesting to know that Chicken Little got Screwed over similarly if not worse than The Black Cauldron… only difference is The Black Cauldron is at least watchable and has over time gained a large cult following… aint nobody callin for Chicken Little to have a second chance!

That might have turned out better if Ron Miller had not been pushed out of the company until after the film had come out. Granted, they were never going to appease literary purists, but I don’t think Lloyd Alexander expected them to because he knew that just by having a Disney version of his books, that would attract people to it. I remember writing a report about him in school.

I still can't get over the weird decision to use that one clip from Raiders of the Lost Ark which was live action in a completely computer animated film...
I just want to say that Chicken Little was the first movie I ever saw in theatres where I was cognizant that I was watching a bad film. I had seen a lot of trash aimed at children beforehand, but being a 7-year-old watching the movie in 2005 just after it was released was the first time in my life where I distinctly remember thinking "this movie is a mess" in reaction to any film. I was so genuinely confused by the choices Disney made and why aliens were suddenly involved, and that original version with the female lead does sound like it would have made a lot more sense.

On the one hand i can actually see where eisner is coming from. It is a common experiance i had growing up as a boy to want to be taller, more masculine, have facial hair etc even if i didnt really know why. Its pretty deeply engrained in boys. All im really saying is i think that angle could have worked if it came about moreso from a creative direction then just marketing strategies with little storytelling concerns.

When I first started the video I kind of assumed the voice was a comic bit, but I was DELIGHTED to hear it wasn't that! It's so refreshing to hear a different voice and cadence to video essays, in addition to good commentary. I sense a video binge coming...
Honestly, simplifying and changing characters like this made no sense. I liked the idea of a timid character full of superstitions growing out of her shell and characters becoming a better family as a result. So what if the first idea was scary for kids? It's SUPPOSED to; to allow the audience to better connect with the MC's, to root for them when things get tough and relate it to real life situations as they grow up. All these excuses the 'bosses' made is completely ludicrous at best and horrendous at worst. Simplify a movie too much and a child loses interest, plus they'd lose brain cells as a result! I remember loving certain cartoons/movies because of the life lessons they show, regardless if it's a hormonal teen whose parents are going through a divorce, facing one's fears and overcoming them out of determination or sheer courage hidden beneath the surface, or just simply a person trying to live his day-to-day life while hiding the secret of being a super-hero! It doesn't have to be reality TV, but some realism in a fictional story makes it more appealing to audiences, that the most powerful being, ex: The Hulk, also has real-life problems like us. It makes a character more human.
