Dear Randy - you are a legend, and your gems of wisdom are invaluable. I really enjoy your videos and I've been able to change my perceptions on certain techniques & systems (braid vs flouro 😁😁😁) a lot! Thank you!
Yup... I got some of those G finesse size 5 hooks for my Vision 110 jerkbaits and put them on with owner splitrings after I dipped them ... they work great 👍 Hook rash is the reason for dipping .. and factory megabass hooks gave hook rash and split / bent on bigger fish... and I put the hooks on in the proper orientation with the splitrings.. that is very important too .
No idea what you mean by that ... I'm talking about putting small quality splitrings and good hooks on hardbaits in the correct orientation so the barbs don't rub the body of the hardbait and make scratches hence.. hook rash ... so I dip my baits in KBS clear diamond finish so the bait has a new hard finish to protect it from the hooks moving over the hardbait forming scratches / hookrash ... doing anything to the hook will change the performance of the hardbait and the hook .
Wow! I clip my last treble also on Zara Spooks and the Yo-Zuri 3DB's. I like the float angle and it walks so much better! Fish almost always get the front or middle hook in the mouth.
what I've been having happening lately which was never an issue in the past. Breaking treble hooks. On three different baits in the last 2 weeks. So changing trebles
What do you think about different colored hooks? I was looking at some Berkley Fusion19 hooks and they have all kinds of colors. Hell, I don't know what color to get.
I've tried the red ones , they look cool 😎 but I have not noticed any more bites . The colored hooks are limited in the size , style and weight . . like short shank or long shank , thickness or thinness and weight .. putting a red hook on the front seems to get bites for me for luers that fish bite on the front hook .. I think , but I've found it mostly looks cool 😎 to me .. 😆... maybe the fish too .. but I haven't asked any of my catches 🤔 about how they feel about it
I'm a simple bank angler. I changed out my trebles for inline singles. It's just a funner and safer way for me to fish. By the way, you're much older than me and I WISH I still had hair like yours.
And while I'm at it, if u were finishing in the top 10 or maybe top 25 and having a chance at 100, 200 or 300 thousand dollars I truly believe u would have live scope so fast our heads would spin.
Let the haters hate and don't worry about it and as for the hair thing, I have the same hairline that you do and even though I am not that religious (spiritual) but this is a great way to look at it: "God only made soo many beautiful heads, the rest he covered with hair!" Unless I am at work I always wear a hat, sunburn sucks. I was introduced to gamakatsu hooks in the late 1990's and I have been using these ever since, they are incredible!! Thanks for all of your tips!!
Really appreciate this info and sharing your experience. And I dont care if you wear a hat or not, though it is good to wear it in the harsh lighting of the tackle room so the shine off your head doesn't blind us! Lol! Just kidding, man!
Randy, I love your videos. I watch every day. I know from time to time you say a competitive UA-cam channel is good. I don’t really watch other channel regularly, but I just saw bass geek and he has some good stuff. Have you seen bass geek ?
A good foundation video. Going a half or whole size smaller is noticeably easier to hook a fish. Added benefit, some cranks can come thru cover a bit easier if your prone to throw a crank bait in the junk. The G finess are sweet, coming from a guy your age who used to sharpen my trebles till they caught on my thumb nail, most didn't! I've a an old prop bait, Luhr Jensen or maybe a Poe's that has some big honken hooks on it. Too big a wire and too big a barb. I lean towards the finer wire with smaller barbs now. I razz you from time to time but at least I'm talking content, or try too. Just like momma used to say; " taking an ax to somebody else's furniture, doesn't make yours any nicer". So no DT's coming off those electronics? :) Be well.
🤦🏻♂️🖥💻🩻👀 they’re looking at you like a doctor looks at it x-ray whatever you do good or a bad people are never satisfied keep up the good work my friend 🙏🏼
Randy, try something like a Czech nymph barbless hook (as a treble hook replacement some time). I know that anglers in saltwater use single hooks instead of trebles on their baits a lot of the time. With the Czech nymph hook too, you can have a larger size of hook. Without having to pay the price that you would normally pay. In using hooks with barbs on them. Because there are no barbs.
Where would I use a barbless single hook? Anywhere, where you're dealing with a lethargic fish. If fishing is good. By all means do whatever one normally does. Occasionally though, fishing is tough. And for some reason. The fish just don't want to be caught. What the Czech nymph hook buys is an extremely reliable hook connection. It's counter intuitive. It's the last thing that I expected when I tried some. Around five to six years ago. And it was only by accident that I did. I've tried various ways to use them. Rather than using 'split rings' too. You can use that trick that Ott De Foe uses with the 'silent' type crank baits that he uses. Sometimes Ott explained, that he changes from rattle baits and lures. To noise-less ones. Particularly from now until the end of the year (after a lake has fish that have seen too many lures reeled across them). And they have become too wise. He uses a loop made out of braided line. In preference to a split ring. To attach his treble hooks to the bait. To further make the crankbait move silently around in the water. He believes it makes a difference.
Looking at some of those three hook jerk baits. I often see the saltwater anglers convert them to single hooks. Instead of trebles. And as I said, my favorite hook in recent times. In most situations has been the Czech nymph hook. It's not a light wire hook. It's more the opposite. However, don't confuse a Czech nymph hook with any other type of 'heavy wire' hook for plastics and worms. That I've seen plenty of. I've dressed a lot of saltwater bait hooks for fishing flies. In the past two or three years. And I've had an opportunity. To look carefully at a lot of hooks out there. And the Czech nymph hooks are really a separate class of hook. There are some of the makers like Hends, or Ahrex in Europe. And Partridge in England make a very good Czech nymph hook too. I started with those. And there are several others. That the anglers who fish them more prefer. Any of them are worthy of a test.
There's a very good video that I watched very recently. Of one of the kayak bass anglers in America. Who had never really fished for rainbow trout using fishing tackle before. Pike, musky, bass and walleye. Had caught hundreds and thousands. I noticed though, that after getting a good hookset into a trout. That took a jig lure fished in shallow water. That fish did precisely what you will see the small mouth bass doing. In the northern events. Even Seth Feider I listened to recently. Spoke about the number of fish he lost. On the St. Lawrence river. One after the other. Many of the northern trout and small mouth bass anglers will say the same thing. There are those times (I think it is fish really that are non-commited at certain times). Yes, you'll hook them. You can play them for a minute or two. And you'll just be ready to land a fish. And watch in desperation as it swims away. There is really no answer to it. Although I've seen some of the northern anglers change their trebles to single hooks. In the Great Lakes too. Like I noticed the saltwater anglers in England doing. With their jerk baits.
The point being, that you can get a Czech nymph hook. Which is not too large. Is not too small. And could be added to a jerk bait or other hard plastic. By means of the split ring system or a braided line loop (if one is going for that 'silent' lure approach). And it won't change the balance or action of the bait (I've a strong feeling the saltwater anglers do it, in order to make their jerk baits zip faster through the water). Especially when fishing around coastlines. Where the water swells and recedes away. As it can do, with the waves from the Atlantic ocean. They are a bit more in control of a lure such as a jerk bait. When it has single hooks. And also, they are not constantly taking 'weed' off the bait. As they cast. The weeks and debris just slide easier. Off the single hooks. The only thing one has to do with barbless hooks. Is to maintain even strain on the fish. When playing it. It's a bit different to treble hooks (where some anglers just allow the fish to flop around). I tend to be more direct now. In how I play the fish. With the barbless system. And if you lose one, you lose one. The extra hook-up rate of using the hooks. Seems to more than make up for the small number you lose.
LMAO! My baldness doesn't bother me anymore. I've been bald for decades now. One thing that sucked though, my Dad had a full head of hair til the day he died. What a bunch of bull crap. lol
Hey Randy your nose looked a little red in this video. You might want to put uv lotion on it more often or go to a higher numbered protection or get a nose cover or fish with an umbrella or all the above 😂😂😂😂😂😂
If your gonna recommend sizes of treble hooks don’t you think you should actually mention the size whether it be size 4 or a 8 that you are showing and talking about! Knowing the correct size (number) might but not positive but might be important!
This is ridiculous. I'm already almost 6 minutes in and you don't mention anything about the actual hook sizes that you're using. This video DEFINITELY IS NOT "all you need to know". I clicked on this video because it said hook sizes. What a waste of time

I tie my hooks together with fine plastic coated wire, don’t get hook rash !

Does the size of the hook (too big or too small) on the jerkbait (MB 110) affect it's ability to suspend properly? Great info! Thank you!

Good information.
Do you ever use barbless hooks....Thanks
what size hooks do you use on your megabass 110 jerbaits
Love your boat mr Randy
so question.. I can't stand treble hooks, is it stupid to remove all but the tail hook and does it change the action of the lure?
I noticed on your black spook, that the rear hook had one of its barbs cut off...Why?
And while I'm at it, if u were finishing in the top 10 or maybe top 25 and having a chance at 100, 200 or 300 thousand dollars I truly believe u would have live scope so fast our heads would spin.

I’m guessing 12 pounds

I’ve never changed treble hooks from original, didn’t know it was a thing? As long as there sharp or damaged.
Could you do a video on how to upgrade the treble hooks?
Don't waste anymore of your time on those people. You don't need to explain yourself.

Caught a bass with the vision 110 and it only had one of the back trebles hooked, so the smaller hooks make sense
