I was introduced to Gamakatsu hooks in the late 90's and I have been using these ever since. I have a small scale that weighs in ounces, grams, grains, etc. so I decided to weigh some of these Gamakatsu treble hooks to share with everyone: #8 is .012oz or 5.2 grains, #6 is .015oz or 6.6 grains, #5 is .019oz or 8.4 grains, #4 is .023oz or 10.4 grains and #2 is .041oz or 18 grains. Hope this is helpful and thanks Randy for providing a great explanation of what size hooks to use on different lures.
Any after market treble will work. Mustad kvd elites, Gama's, vmc and owner, take your pick! All of them are great. It's really hard to go wrong with the kvd elites and the gama round bends!!
@@franksancimino1297 the kvd elites by mustad are nasty. Extremely hard for them to shake!!!! I like both the reg. Length and the 2x short 1x strong version.
Hi Randy, HAPPY THANKSGIVING WEEKEND, my question is, what size hooks and brand should I change on my Megabass Vision 110 Jr’s, they come with size 8’s , so what size can I upgrade to
i remember you telling me last week that, just by downsizing your hooks, even rusty ass old trash hooks... that your hit rate went up. seems to me hook size is much more important than brand name. old rusty hooks did just as well.
Do you guys think the G Finesse medium heavy hooks in like 1/0 size could catch musky or would this be risky? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks
Great info again... while watching a video from a week or two it looked like a couple of them had smaller tail hooks than belly hooks... video distortion?
Sir Aaron's hook I do use it is the best....but u never use EWG ...like on a Lipless ? Front hook at least ...sure would like to hear yeah y no EWG ever...EWG eliminate fish loss at distance on 3/4oz Lipless like Majiç.
Kvd short shanks on small cranks that fish can fit in their mouth. These also do better when fishing around wood and rock and doesnt get hung as much. I like the regular gammys for bigger cranks and topwaters.
Excellent information Randy. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge with us. Is there anyway to look at treble hooks to determine if they are good quality? I mixed new hooks with the hooks that came on my lures.😱🤷🏼♂️
Randy have you noticed that the g-finesse are quick to begin rusting? I haven’t used the treble hooks to upgrade but I have started using the g-finesse worm hooks. I love everything about them but I have seemed to notice that after a day of fishing, maybe skip a couple days, the hooks I have left tied on had spots of rust n them. Maybe I should remove the soft plastics but it kinda wastes a bait doing that.
Keep is simple guys! Upgrade to ANY companies premium hook. I've tried them all. There all good. Go up one size at the most. Too much and you'll lose a little action. Randy Is right about most of these sizes on different baits. Just keep it simple
Freshwater trebles have too much flex and are responsible for many lost fish, due to the thin and flexible metal used to make them. I switch all my crankbait and jerkbait trebles from freshwater, to saltwater in the same size (which will not interfere with the balance of the lure) and has improved my hook up ratio tremendously… Gamakatsu was always my go to and was on their team for many years…
Randy milt here l am trying your hook set up for whopper plopped l have a glide swim bait that have bigger hooks than that can you get gommies that l can use that are not so stiff milt
I’ll never understand paying $10 for a lure just have to change the hooks! These manufacturers need to get it together. 6th sense baits come with great hooks stock though.
@@CS-wp5dz most won't..but if they did it they would be priced out of the game most fisherman never change a hook...1st thing I do even on high dollar baits
I have bought the gamakatsu g finesse treble hooks. They rust really quickly, and they bend out. I bent it back, and it's still on my lure bc I paid good money for them. I do not recommend spending your money on these hooks. Maybe all nano hooks rust quick, idk but these definitely do.
Gotta air lure after day...box with Swiss cheese holes and done if u go out days in a row. If not hang um out of the way from your cat...lol. PS I have cats it's crazy keepin um safe.good luck !
Hi There Randy! Your voice was slightly muffled in this video i'm not sure if you had something blocking your Microphone on your phone / setup. Great stuff as always Looking forward to the next release.
Randy, you need to get back on the pro tournament trail or start one up. It is where you belong before you get older and blame your absence it on age. I mean this sincerely. You've had a long enough break and by now with the growth of your channel you can snag a big sponsor to pay your way. Then you can do a review series like JW has going on. imo
I hear you. I've had them (crankbaits) fly back and dig deep in the top of my hand, as well as into pants. Partner caught my cap, too. But they do catch fish! :)

Mustad KVD Elite for me, affordable and great quality
U better believe it!!!!!!
Great info on treble hooks and sizing! Thanks for sharing!
Wish Heddon would get rid of those chrome trebles , even on the Zara spooks , senior and junior
Worst trebles I've ever gotten on a lure!

What do you use on walking topwaters like ???
Round bends normally

Thank you thank you!!
Gamakasu makes good hooks. I've always replaced red hooks because they suck.
have tried the G finesse treble on a pop-R only hook that I have broke
Try owner feathered stingers for the back of poppers! Nasty!!!!
You got me using these Randy, they are a great product. Maybe you can detail the red hooks for smallmouth sometime? Thanks again!

good video Randy , I also like the more subtle color of the hooks as opposed to some that are more flashy
Great tutorial on treble hooks. Some good advice moving forward.
hey randy! you should do a video on bass movement and bass behavior! thanks

what in the world do all the Pros do with all the treble hocks they take off, can't you just sharpen them?

And it’s a pain in the butt on small swivels to change and time lol. Charge me $2 more for the best hooks on the lure. I’d gladly pay it.
I agree. Alot of them are putting good ones on. Check out Duo Realis, they are scary sharp!!

Good idea. A tournament that incorporates his values. Family first. Skill rather than tech. Conservation.
