"Chinese Architecture in a Japanese based game?"
They didn't make a mistake. China profoundly influenced Japanese architecture, written language, culture and cuisine for centuries or longer.
      Some examples:
      1. Kanji, Japan's third and most advanced alphabet, solely consists of Chinese characters.
      2. RAMEN, Gyoza (fried dumplings), Mabo tofu, Harumaki (spring rolls), Nikuman (steamed buns), Karaage (fried chicken) and green tea all came from China.
      3. Japan used Neo-Confucianism to order society in the Kamakura Period.

    • @Behinddarkness86
      @Behinddarkness86 2 місяці тому +3

Having been to China and Japan, I promise you the architecture is Japanese. That is probably the only thing they got right. By the time Japan started building castles, they had gone to China and learned Chinese architectural practices but there are some distinct feature differences. Chinese architecture is much more detailed oriented and ornate because Chinese culture placed high value on artisans where as Japanese architecture is more muted due to the influence of Zen and simplicity. Tori gates are 100 percent Japanese and both cultures used paper lanterns.

Yasuke is marketed by Ubisoft as a historical legendary samurai. He's not a legendary samurai or a warrior. He's a swordbearer, part of an entourage.
William Adams is a navigator and a shipwright that Shogun Ieyasu declared as a samurai for the aforementioned, but Team Ninja never marketed him as a legendary samurai.
Team Ninja also used Yasuke as a warrior in Nioh, since they already used artistic license for Adams.

Ubisoft dropped the ball with this one. Every game that released in the series had a protagonist of the respected race of the setting it was in. Fans aren't being racist they're upset about how he was included. It wasn't genuine he was chosen to check a box.

    • @DeuceGod

They are being racist and masking it behind being woke, Dei etc. It’s just a game and none of assassins creed is based of real history or people but there was a black samurai/detainer so this story may have bits and pieces of truth and fiction but it’s closer to historical truth than the rest of the games.

    • @Seoul_Soldier
      @Seoul_Soldier 2 місяці тому

Fans are being racist. Because there is a literal Japanese woman in the game (Fujibayasshi Naoe) if they don't like Yasuke. People are acting like he's the only protagonist. But oh, then they'd have to play as a woman. Forgot about that.
This so-called outrage is pure "anti-woke" garbage and I'm honestly sick of it. Nobody had anything to say when Black Flag had you playing as a white dude when it takes place in the Caribbean, since technically the protag would have been black. I also didn't see people claiming that AC: Freedom Cry was made "to check a box" because the main characters were black. I don't have a problem with playing a black protagonist in a video game considering I bought MK11 solely because Spawn was in it.
I think people might be a little annoyed they waited a decade for an assassin's creed game in Japan, and this is what they got, and they weren't expecting this.
I got no dog in this fight considering I've never played any of the Assassin's creed games.
Although the one way they would probably get me to play is if it was in Japan.

They won't show gameplay until it's the very end because if they show that the formula hasn't changed since the past 4 games, they'll cancel pre-orders etc. Mirage "went back" just to jack up interest in the franchise after all.
Play the Shinobido series, from former devs of the Tenchu series before the license went to FromSoft. Really good games as well. If you want AC Japan, try Ghost of Tsushima, by Sucker Punch.

Everything after AC: Black Flag is a YMMV, AC: Rogue is where you play as a Templar (Heard the story is good, but some gamers don't feel right about going after fellow Assassins.) and anything after AC: Syndicate is a different gameplay style. So, one question that I have is: Who does, and maintains his "dreadlocks"? Yasuke was a retainer for Nobunaga, nothing more, nothing less. The position was a honorable one. However, it was not on the level of a Samurai. These developers really need to stop using Black characters to score some DEI points, it's shameful. For the claims of Yasuke not being a Samurai.
    1) It's all due to him being given a rank though him not actually doing the usual duty of a Samurai in the Sengoku Era.
    2) He also doesn't have a Family name nor was adopted to an existing Samurai family to become one.
    3) He wasn't part or contributed to any of Oda's war campaign.
    4) His only combat experience was during the Honnoji incident.
    5) Mitsuhide Akechi didn't consider him a Samurai at the Honnoji incident.
    6) His stay with the Oda clan was just 15 months.
He's closer to Tokichiro a Sandal Bearer, Tokichiro eventually became a full pledged Samurai after getting achievements then changed his name to Hashiba Hideyoshi.
Yasuke is a Sword Bearer, a Personal Bodyguard at best.
Good guess he was at the process of being one but didn't become one due to the Honnoji incident.
Another good guess is that Oda gave Yasuke a rank as an excuse to have him around as a bodyguard, since Oda has a habit breaking the norms in the Samurai hierarchy.
Calling him a Samurai would be the equivalent of *"Calling a Cadet, a Lieutenant"*
    Edit:
    Reminder (Due to an idiot)
    "All Samurai are Bushi"
    "Not all Bushi are Samurai"
The term "Samurai" didn't exist in the Sengoku Era, but the equivalent titles, ranks, & duty was there.
As for the *"Retainer argument"* , look at Tokichiro.
He was a Retainer but not a Samurai.
It him years to eventually become one and changed his name to Hashiba Hideyoshi.

Nobody sane argues that Yasuke was a real person. There are some arguments about his samurai status: some historians believe he was one, and some have opposite views. But that's exactly the thing that should have been playing in favor of the game.

    1) This endless "virtue signaling" and "messaging" when nobody asked for it.

Like some of the tweets mentioned, there are tons of notable historical shinobi to choose from. Yes, I'm aware that there's also the female shinobi, but couldn't Ubi just have done it where both characters are ethnically Japanese? Like, imagine working alongside the likes of Ishikawa Goemon or Fuuma Kotaro, for example. Hell, maybe a sidestory of sorts where we collaborate with Mochizuki Chiyome would work as well.

Hattori Hanzo would have been a better fit than any of the people you mentioned.
Kotaro is nowhere near Oda's lands, Goemon was pretty busy at the time this game is taking place, and Chiyome was (presumed) dead in 1571. This game is taking place right before the Hinnoji Incident, so about 1582-ish. So if historical accuracy is actually what people care about (and I don't think it is), none of those characters would work.

UBI should've done the part where the Historical character is a supporting character, just like their previous games.

Hanzo who's a Shinobi and a Samurai vassal of Tokugawa, or they could create a fictional character who's related to Hanzo.
Yasuke is the opposite of stealth, since most of the records he's always with Nobunaga as a bodyguard.

I haven't touched an AC game since Origins. I feel like using a real life person that is basically a footnote in history... I'm totally fine. However comma pause for effect, this one doesn't work because Yasuke physically sticks out too much in Japan at that era to be an Assassin. It's not the first time they've taken a character and given them superhuman powers (see all of the games with demon king Oda Nobunaga and the Borgia Papacy). But we all know that Ubisoft is a company that is completely full of shit and are using this simply for DIE and have intentionally turned him and the female side protagonist simply for that reason. So no, I'm not picking this up and I feel like if they knew better, they would have set another Assassin's Creed game in another part of Africa instead of Egypt.

I agree with you to an extent. PLEASE HEAR me out.
I think Yasuke looks INCREDIBLE, and so does the female Japanese Shinobi. The game looks amazing, and I will eventually buy it and play and beat the game with BOTH characters.
It is interesting that too many Assassin's Creed players take the fictional history of the games and they think it's actual real history, when they tell the video game players that the game is FICTIONAL, NOT true, though like you said, there are some historical characters and events in the game as well as historical places to explore in the respected time period, but the stories are FICTIONAL, NOT true.
I'm a bit of a history buff myself. I watched Shogun and loved it. I also watched Battle for Japan: Age of Samurai documentary.
I was hoping to hear something about Yasuke in the documentary about feudal Japan. They covered the time period of Odu Naga. There was NOT one mention of Yasuke or any other African retainer, samurai, or slave.
It's possible that Yasuke never existed in feudal Japan, or, he was around sometime after feudal Japan. IF anyone would know for sure, it'd be the Japanese historians who have known and researched in depth feudal Japan's time period.
I have NOT heard one Japanese historian even mention Yasuke, I'm guessing either because he did not really exist, and / or perhaps he was a fictional character that the Japanese made up to tell stories to their kids to scare them into behaving and being good. That's a likely possibility.
During feudal Japan's time period, the majority of the world didn't even know what Japan was or of Japan's existence other than some English and Portuguese merchants, CHRISTIAN, and roman catholic missionaries.
The character Yasuke being a main character in and for Assassin's Creed Shadows has NOTHING to do with him being black.
It's about playing one of the two main characters that's NOT Japanese during feudal Japan.
It's about respecting the culture, history, and time period of feudal Japan.
Fans and game players anticipate and expect playing a Japanese warrior of that incredible time period, which, we have one, a female ALL Japanese Shinobi, but the second main character, since there are only two characters to choose from, should be a male ALL Japanese Ronin, Samurai, Shinobi, Shogun, again, out of respect for the Japanese and their feudal Japanese culture and history.
      It's NOT about color.
It's ALL about respecting Japanese culture and history.
I've heard all the arguments. Some have even said, Yasuke could have been met by the main characters rather than being a main character to play as.
He's already a main character so I don't think that will change, which is fine.
HOWEVER, out of respect for Japan, the Japanese, their culture and history, they should add at least one more main character to play as, that being a male ALL Japanese warrior.
This would clear up at least MOST of the problems. Keep Yasuke, keep the female ALL Japanese warrior, but add a male ALL Japanese warrior as well, because MOST people who will buy and play the game anticipate and expect to play as a female and / or male ALL Japanese warrior.
Again, it's NOT about color, it's about respect to the Japanese and feudal Japan's historical time period.
The developers, ubisoft, could even have Yasuke and the other two ALL Japanese main characters if they would add a male ALL Japanese warrior, to team up together, help each other out, and accomplish missions.
That's what ubisoft needs to do.
Lastly, there really is a hidden agenda behind ALL this that ubisoft has caused, that being making and turning this into race baiting and a race problem so we'll argue and fight amongst each other, and, a hidden agenda of ubisoft as well really is to try to change and rewrite history, brainwashing, indoctrinating, manipulating, and mind controlling the masses, and to stir up more racial problems in the world, especially in the US.
It's the same thing when holly wood changes the color of a favorite character(s).
Imagine playing Assassin's Creed Origins where the story is about ancient Egypt, Africa, and the main character to play as was some white dude.
Africans and Egyptians would have rioted in the streets.
Again, it's NOT about color, it's about respecting a country, a people, their culture and history.
ubisoft did this on purpose with Assassin's Creed Shadows because they knew it would cause further racial tensions.
This time, HOWEVER, it's as though ubisoft has something against Asian Japanese people, Japan, their culture and history, and that is UNACCEPTABLE.
ubisoft should keep the two main characters they already have for the game, but ADD a male ALL Japanese warrior, because, after all, this is a story about feudal Japan.
      I hope this makes sense.
ubisoft, what ever you have or need to do to add a third main character for Assassin's Creed Shadows, PLEASE DO SO our of respect for Japan, the Japanese, their culture and history.
Otherwise, the game is NOT going to do nearly as well as it could have.
Even if the game has to be delayed to add another main character that's a male ALL Japanese warrior, PLEASE DO SO.
ALSO, the timing of ALL of this, an election year, and the game coming out during the US Presidential election, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out and understand that ubisoft is being used by the government to stir up racial tensions.
Do NOT fall for their agenda, narrative, and propaganda, folks.
REMEMBER, there's only one race, the human race.
Let's respect EVERYONE'S country, culture, and history WITHOUT the race baiting and stirring racial tensions.
To put it more simply, ubisoft is stirring the pot and backing up to watch what happens.
They need to knock that off.

They are going for the bad ass boss woman approach with her personality. You're right, they should have made her look shy and passive on the surface. That's what makes her deadly because it's unexpected when she actually has the skill to assassinate those who under estimate her. I play mostly female characters in games because when they are done right, women bring different approach to a situation than a man that makes some interesting dynamics.

He was never a samurai. He was lord Nobunaga‘s sword carrier, and if you want to really get down to it, he was his pet, the real documents that talk to him or not even a paragraph long he was there for 15 months, and then disappears off the face of the Earth. You do not become a samurai in 15 months and guess what if he did he committed the most diss honorable thing he surrendered

My biggest problem with the marketing of this game is the blatant gaslighting involved. For those not familiar with the term "gaslighting": it's a form of emotional manipulation, using lies and half-truths to sow self-doubt and confusion with their targets. This was the same reason that got me upset with the planned inclusion of female Custodes in 40K. They could have just made it like someone found a way to turn females into superhuman bodyguards, but instead, they tried to manipulate the narrative into saying female Custodes always existed, and we the fans remembered wrongly (press Y for lie, people have brought up earlier editions to prove Custodes were always male). This is gaslighting in action.
I can accept playing as a female protagonist, and if the setting was more fictional than historic, I would have given it the benefit of doubt. However, trying to manipulate customers and fans is something I cannot forgive, and it really shows the utter contempt these people have for us on the grand scheme of things. Lesson to learn from this: do not treat your customers like idiots.

I’m mostly concerned with Naoe. Not only she’s getting shadowed by Yasuke in the public but the fact that they made her a ninja even though she’s technically a Kunoichi, and Ubisoft will most likely write her as the usual unlikable girl boss we’ve been seeing in practically everything. It’s gotten so predictable that it’s boring. Her attire is so bland compared to the original concept art she just looks like a kunoichi rather than an Assassin.

Keep in mind, Ubisoft's has been doing this for a long while, ever since they sidelined their actual talent[Guyot(Warrior Within, Rayman), Michel Ancel(Rayman), Guillemette(Warrior Within, Two Thrones, Blood Dragon) etc] until they fired them or they left. They moment Ubisoft dried up from actual talent, they started embracing the SJW ideologies of the time AND moneytizing them :
    - The one AC game set in France has microtransactions in one of its DLCs or something, along with a transexual prominent character, or something to that effect...in Napoleonic France
    - AC in Egypt has half the population be nubians or have heavy black characteristics and nobody is a stealthy assassin
    - AC in Greece makes everyone look like they are from Pakistan and nobody is a stealthy assassin
    - AC in Scandinavia makes the men into cuckholds and secretely bisexual while also making them the blatant bad guys for invading the poor, multicultural people of the British Isles, and nobody is a stealthy assassin
    - AC in Japan picks the black samurai guy, instead of...I dunno, one of the many ninja of that era, with the samurai being the biggest, loudest most obvious distraction
And of course, pre-orders, microtransaction in exorbitant prices that nobody in their right mind should even think of entertaining. It's always been a grift and open contempt to a playerbase that's willing to shell out incredible amounts of money for half-baked, half-finished, chopped up games with artificial blocks and gated content, with the extra sprinkle of political agenda for outside funding.
The japanese are acting the best of all the gamers : they just say no, and go and buy the actual Assassin's Creed Japan game : Ghost of Tsushima. Gamers from the west should do the same, say no to these practices, say no to developers and publishers that actively fleece them and sell them sub-par products and buy something that actually gives them what they want. Ghost of Tsushima is finally on PC, so it's not jailed on PS4 anymore.

I wonder if Ubisoft is using Yasuke as payback/ revenge against Stellar Blade fans. I mean, if you think about it; American studios and " Diversity and Inclusion" consultants were harassing anime fans and manga creators for sexy female characters and positive masculinity.
I've noticed they call East Asians " white", meaning East Asians aren't a minority anymore, they are on the same level as white people due to work ethic, family ties and respect of the hierarchy/ privilege.
I'm pretty sure Yasuke is used for social justice points. He is not just a warrior, he's " YAASSUUKE", the " YAASSUKK- IIFIAACTION" pushed by the media is insane.

One of the traits of being an effective assassin includes being able to blend in with the general population which means not standing out among the crowd. Yasuke being portrayed as bigger, taller and not commonly seen among the population is sticking out like a sore thumb. Might as well call it Ass Seen Creed. Terrible foresight in designing the game.

I won't be pissed with their use of Yasuke if not for their marketing lie of him being a legendary samurai. That's straight up bull. He's a swordbearer, part of an entourage. Nobunaga won't endanger his rare conversation piece. He loves and shows off his imported goods.
Hollywood often make Chinese/Japanese hybrid too And Ubisoft did the same for For Honor. Architectures are Chinese and their mocaps for the samurai are wushu. Their naginata woman (Nobushi) moves as though she uses guandao.

Oh, they've been changing way more than just Wikipedia. But I think the importance of keeping Wikipedia articles accurate is because, regarless of whether its 100% relieable or not, it's the first place a lot of people go to for random questions and doubts they come about.
Seen some people saying that even if they did a new Assasin's Creed on Africa, everyone would still be complaining, and I can't really say I disagree. They've pretty much trained people to expect them to be pandering for ESG points at all times, so, at this point, they'd skeptical of everything they put out.

There is absolutely no reason other than it being 2024 thaf this guy should be the main character in a samurai game. They could have made a whole other game set in africa or colonial america again for a black dude to be the main character. Its a damn shame that we sont get to play the master swordsman that has trained his whole life to be the nost elite samurai 🥺

It just isn't right, this is just plain dei, yes I know Yasuke was a real person, but his history is completely unknown, but putting him in a game where you are supposed to sneak and quietly kill you enemy and sneak away, he doesn't fit in the setting, heck it really should have been two ninja and Yasuke being a support character who helps you not the main character, it just seem force to check a box and not organic, oh and the pricing is getting crazy a least with Japanese games you get extra outfits, weapons, items, experience points, accessories, and sometimes physical goods with that prices, but they hardly every charge you to get the game earlier or lock you out of a mission, this is just a scam on the west part and the studio know it.

Ok, they are introducing two different worlds, two different play styles and they are playing with those dichotomies.
I'm pretty sure Ubisoft did their homework.
You have a lot of games where you can play as Asian men as lead characters as Samurais, ninjas etc.
You got one black man as a Samurai and everybody is losing their minds as if there isn't going to be anymore Asian men as Samurais.
Yasuke is a historical figure but yet people are questioning his validity. Are people questioning the validity of William Adams (Irish), the lead character Nioh?
Nobody cares until black people are the lead character in roles that people are not used to seeing black people in.
Overall, these are VIDEO GAMES, they are meant to be fun and not for everything to be some stupid "culture war".
