      It's morally correct to pirate any game. If you end up liking it, you buy it. That's the deal and I don't see any problems with it. If your game is good, people will pay for it. But the customer deserves to see if the product is worthwhile.

    I still remember being part of an Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 'Secret Society' that Ubisoft used to run where you'd help 'spread the word of Assassins Creed' (Free advertising) months before its launch, you'd do tasks like make custom posters and digital art and give them ideas and you'd collect points to cash out on actual PHYSICAL rewards/merch like an AC Hoodie, T-Shirt, by just basically participating, everyone got the game for Free mailed to them just for advertising AC1 and AC2 for Ubisoft. The website names were 1191AD and 'LiveByTheCreed'. There's probably not a lot of information on these sites anymore, they stopped existing and have been lost in time. They were the times I loved and trusted Ubisoft and its a memory I'll hold, especially since I was the 1st place winner in the 2nd Site and won a Sony VAIO laptop before Sony discontinued those.

I still have a few videos and photos I kept from back then. Damn fun times. I was a teen at the time without much money so winning a $2000'ish laptop was like a miracle to me.

      It still surprises me that people still play assassins creed. As a old fan of the franchise. I got so tired of it as time passed. Like he says in the video. There is one or two AC per year. Different from other franchises that you beat a game and wait around 3 years for the new one and get all excited. Every time i beated AC i found out after there were three new ones and i had no will to play it a new one for a while(because like most of people, i like to play other types of games too). How there are some people who still enjoys playing it surprises me.

    In one of the letters of Luis Frois, he says that Yosuke was sold back to Africa after Oda’s death, because they didn’t thought of him of one of them (Japanese or Samurai) so they didn’t reward him with death, instead was sold back to his previous master (sadly after this it’s unknown what happened to him)
    And as a lot of Japanese people have pointed out, this is the first time you play as a “historic figure” instead of just interacting with them
    Edit: It’s honestly sad, that a company like Ubisoft only uses story and race to pander to people.
    It’s not the same as AC 3 where you play as a Native American, because Connor wasn’t real, here Yasuke was a human being that lived and know is just a token for Ubisoft to push their game, a game that’s probably going to be overpriced and buggy.

      The difference is that Nioh is a dark fantasy re-imagining of that time period, and with that setting they get way more leeway, like kodama, ghosts, spirits, demons, magic weapons, etc. Having said that, even Nioh is a lot more historically accurate, since William Adams is an actual historical figure who helped Tokugawa Ieyasu become shogun in 1600 using guns and weapons supply by the Dutch.
      On the other hand, Yasuke only got his footnote in Japanese history _because_ he was black, he was basically a fucking unicorn in Japan at a time when conservative, isolationist politics were at an all time high during the Sengoku period. Besides, the guy wasn't even a "legendary samurai" Ubishit tries to make him out to be, he was nothing but a servant to Oda Nobunaga, and he only stayed in Japan for three years. That's it. 12:45 A few things worth noting about Yasuke imo:
    What many Asians are furious about, and rightfully so, is that this choice has very dubious ulterior motives (catering to certain markets, marketing through bad publicity... I don't even think the reason is political, Ubisoft doesn't even have the moral integrity to fight for an ideology).
    You HAVE to keep in mind that mainline AC games have NEVER had an Asian protagonist (as opposed to 2 POC with Freedom Cry and Origins, 3 if we count Liberation's Aveline, all in historically appropriate contexts). Why would Ubisoft, when given the chance to have REAL DIVERSITY, not some made up, Western bs "inclusivity" choose a POC over a context-appropriate japanese/asian? Your guess is as good as mine, but I would point to the aforementioned ulterior motives.

      @@3Demon100I keep seeing comment like yours and been holding myself back from answering. As an Asian man tied to some Japanese, males played AC series for years and been wanting to feel included especially when it comes to their country. However it finally happens, but we get a Japanese woman and black slave become samurai instead that's killing a bunch of Japanense men. This is not how you make us feel included but some way shaming us. AC has never had an Asian man assassin before. When we think of ninjas, that's normally what we think of instead we get a Kunoichi. Ubisoft is making this game for certain crowds while ignoring others. It would be okay to have these characters and a 3rd one that any Asian man can relate to.
      Especially in the West, Asian male representative has been really bad even though it's been slowly fixing itself.

    • @Industrialist_Hellscape
      @Industrialist_Hellscape 6 місяців тому +1

      @@3Demon100 Point very well taken. However, there are multiple reason why I disagree and still stand by what I wrote.
      Before the long version, remember that from a quantitative and gender standpoint, there is insufficient representation of Asians in AC games when compared to POC. In particular, there is still no male asian assassin, whereas there is at least Aveline and even Aya for POC.
      Despite that, I agree that there is too much toxicity surrounding Yasuke, but my point was slightly more subtle than "he can't be the protagonist in the Japanese AC because he is African", which a lot of people believe and I despise this crowd of people. My point was that AUTHENTIC diversity is amazing and fascinating and inspiring. That's why I love playing origins or AC2 even though I might not be Egyptian/African or Italian/European. My problem is not Yasuke, on the contrary, what is even more outrageous is that Yasuke had so much more potential as a leading NPC character. Imagine the following:
      Yasuke, to most, is the servant of this cruel Samurai Master. No one knows why or how he came to Japan. To the assassin protagonists, however, he is the leader of the new japanese assassin chapter, sent from the African birthplace of the Assassin order to hunt for XYZ piece of Eden. He is shadows' Mirabeau, in a sense. After orchestrating the assassination of his master, in reality his target all along, he is forced to flee Japan, never to be seen again. The whole operation lasted 3 years, i.e. real Yasuke s stay in Japan.
      Isn't that story so much more enticing for an AC fan? Why not go for this instead in keep the POC protagonists for an AC game in, I don't know, Ethiopia, just one of the most culturally and historically rich places in the world? Because authentic diversity doesn't write headlines, superficial "inclusivity" does.

    • @3Demon100
      @3Demon100 6 місяців тому +1

      @@AlmightyTreeDragon I'm going to attempt to engage with this in good faith because for the most part I agree. I definitely understand the concept of representation in media and how it's important in breaking stereotypes but also in just being able to see more of yourself in a fictional character, even though it's not necessarily required for a good story. Where I disagree is when you see some form of representation and think of it as some dig at another group of people. Asian men definitely have severe under representation in media especially in the role of protagonist, but so do asian women. Off the top of my head i can only name two asian women who were protagonist in a video game. I don't necessarily think Ubisoft is leapfrogging over asian men in order to win diversity points, rather they must differentiate themselves from other games/media that have that era as it's settings. Already before any gameplay is out this game is already being pitted against Ghost of Tsushima and I suspect as soon as the game rolls out the characters in terms of writing will be compared to Jin, and Ubisoft is definitely not going to write a more compelling character than Jin. I don't think you should be upset at the fact of who is the face of the game just yet, there's always a chance (very slim for Ubisoft writers) that both protagonists and side characters could be compelling and you could very well still find parts of yourself in them. As for you talking about Ubisofts depiction of a black Samurai killing japanese people. I have to ask: is your gripe with it that a bunch of japanese men are being killed by someone who isnt the same as them or is it the fact they are being killed in the first place? Would you be more okay with it if it was just another Japanese man killing other japanese men?
      I don't think it's coming from a racially motivated place. It reminds me of the controversy that RE5 had when it was Chris Redfield going to a west African village and killing African zombies. In cases like these you must take into account the intent and ask yourself: do I truly believe the game directors (who are both Japanese btw) made this with any sort of racially charged biases? Obviously not, and I think it's the same with Ubisoft.

    • @3Demon100
      @3Demon100 6 місяців тому +1

      @@Industrialist_Hellscape Glad we are on the same page here. I 100% agree there is a severe under representation of Asian men in media. But just because an Asian male assassin hasn't been the protagonist in an AC game yet doesn't mean it won't happen. I am much more willing to bet Ubisofts creative and marketing teams, saw the mainstream interest in Samurai through games like GoT, Seikro and shows like Yasuke and decided that was their course of action and didnt put much more thought beyond that. It's a little bit "me too" gimmicky and uninspired but I truly don't think it's a problem on inclusion and lack thereof and moreso a problem of lack of inspiration and direction.
      In terms of writing Yasuke, what could be better is probably a list that is longer than the Nile. I'm not gonna defend Ubisoft creatives writing skills in any capacity. Will the story and characters be flat? Probably. I've played every mainline title and Ezio and Bayek were the only ones who I found remotely compelling.
      However I say all this with previous assumptions of AC Games. There is always a chance (very slim) that it could be good, but I'm not holding my breath, buying any special edtions or pre-ordering

The main part that just bothers me most as someone who loved learning about the Sengoku Jidai era, is that they didn't choose an actual important historical figure. they didn't choose any of the figures that already had legends or myths around them. they choose the slave, that gets to be a retainer and then back to being a slave again. like Mitsuhide would have been perfect, the man who commited the Honnoji incident, or even hideyoshi the peasent to ruler of japan turned into a power hungry menace to society. or Leyasu the man who would in it all in the end. Like there are so many great characters that would have been amazing to do a game like this with and to take some creative liberty with, but no instead we get just random black service for no reason... like he couldve been a great side character but main fighter? nah, why would i want a immitation samurai and not one of the legendary real deals ? like even as for those that more so fit the assassin type game play, you have ninja clans like Hattori, Fuma, Takigawa all as good options. It just feels like a big miss to me.

      You don't want your character to be too important. The idea is that the Assassin's are helping but not major players historically. It limits you to what you can do with the character forcing certain events. I think he is just vague enough to work in the setting given. If you want a game playing as a specific samurai or ninja AC isn't really for that.

    • @InDeathWeLove
      @InDeathWeLove 6 місяців тому +11

      That’s the exact opposite reason why he is a bad choice. AC has never used historical figures as the player character. We always played someone unknown to history as an assassin should be. Historical figures were amongst the NPCs we interacted with. Thats what Yasuke should have been.
      They could have ven made him a Leonardo da Vinci like thing where he is a recurring character throughout the game. Maybe say sure on the surface he was a curiosity Oda kept around, but secretly he was a spy planted by Oda’s side by the brotherhood to spy on him and he regularly provides intel to the actual player character who is some unknown Japanese person.

    The historical record states quite clearly that Yasuke was Oda's literal water boy. Oda liked him because he was exotic and very strong and tall. Yasuke was the first black man Japanese people had seen at the time. Wherever Yasuke went, crowds would form up to see the mysterious foreigner. He never fought in battle, he was not a samurai and he certainly would not have been able to blend in anywhere. His one and only job was to follow Oda around so Oda could show him off as a status symbol, kinda like how Tyson used to have a pet tiger type deal. The only time Yasuke fought in a real fight, not battle, but fight, is when Oda died and Yasuke tried to rescue his body, so props to him on that one, but all he achieved was to get apprehended and kicked out of Japan. Thats the story of Yasuke. The whole story. He was not some mythical warrior of renown. He was a prestige symbol and a curiosity for the elites of Japan to show their power and influence no different than Kim Jong Un's black athlete guests. Literally the same thing.
    Ubisoft is a shameless corporation and I hope their game is banned in Japan. This is atrocious. Besides being incredibly historically insensitive and inaccurate, its also nonsensical. Anyone who buys this game, shame on them.

    • @joeeburg
      @joeeburg 6 місяців тому +24

      Yasuke was a samurai. Japanese historians and Japanese people agree. He has appeared in several Japanese made games and books, where he is depicted as a Samurai. In the trailer of this game, you can see that they're clearly setting up two different playstyles, with The Kunoichi being the stealth playstyle and yasuke being the loud playstyle, a playstyle which doesnt need him to "blend in". Also, I don't remember Leonardo Da Vinci designing weapons for a man named Ezio Auditore. AC stopped being about realism after the first game. You fight literal gods in the last couple of AC games. We barely know anything about Yasuke, what he did with Oda, what his name was, how he looked like etc. All we know is that he was real, he was strong and he was a Samurai. This makes him the perfect base character for Ubisoft to use. Granted, this is a Ubisoft game, so it almost definitely WILL suck, but I do find it funny how we have tom cruise and keanu reeves playing samurai, as well as the main protagonist for both Nioh Games (a game franchise which had Yasuke as a boss battle in it) is a white man who has never even held a katana in real life. All of those depictions are fine, but when it comes to Yasuke, basically a folklore character, you all become historians

    The reason why the storyline became a mess, was because what the story used to be about was quickly abandoned in favor of what came after. I already knew that AC would eventually be happening in Japan, because this was already announced long long ago. 2012 was also something Ubisoft used during the story because at the end of the first game, we see all the nudges of what was coming because in real life, the world was supposed to be destroyed because of the Mayan calendar (the doomsday theory). It was a giant advertisement that scared the shit out of me back in the day.
    We haven't even seen a World War I AC yet, and even that was announced. There used to be a Facebook AC game many years ago that can't be accessed anymore, and this was around the time of AC II and Brotherhood. The Facebook game was called Project Legacy.
    *On 15 May 2013, Facebook removed the game because it no longer complied with their Terms of Service for Facebook applications, as it had not been updated recently*
    During that game, you had to collect items because of chapters and in these chapters endings they showed ''scenes'' and within these scenes you could see what was going to be happening in future sequels. One of them showed a WWI soldier with a Christmas tree in front of it (probably was supposed to be released around Christmas time?) the Crystal Skulls was shown with a jungle temple, there was an asian man sitting in front of a shrine or some sort (could have been the Chinese game) and much more. I think GW was in one of the pictures as well because of the civil war.
