I always got told two fingers for the noseband and four for the throatlash...I always have trouble putting the bridle on. Saddling up & adjusting the girth - completely fine. Putting the bit in..WOAH IT ALL GOES DOWNHILL FROM HERE.
Oh my goodness thank you! I have been recently working on bridling my horse when I go to ride at my lessons, and I just can't seem to get it on the right way. This helped a lot!
One of the most helpful videos of this type I’ve seen it was so detailed I feel like I actually understand that mess of leather that is a bridal now thank you!
normally you should have a few fingers under the noseband... The noseband isn't there to shut the mouth... that's the job of the flash and that one has to be tight... (still there one finger should be fitting there) for the troat latch you want about a fist between the horse's cheek and the troat latch...
Thank you. I just got a bridle and was wondering what all the extra bits (the flash/2nd nose band was foe. Thank you now I can confidently and painlessly put this on my clydie x
Thanks, I’ve only done this a handful of times. Since they are already done in preparation for riding lessons, but want to start helping out around stables so this should be useful...
i have seen TONS of videos on how to tack up a horse and this is the most helpful of them all. and actually, i think i might try putting my hand on top of his head to pull the bridle up, rather than holding his nose :) yeah... he hates the bridle :P haha :D
Hey, I'm beginning to work with an older horse, who is also my first horse. She walks right up to me and is very sweet. She hasn't been ridden in some time. Any advice as to how I could get started training her so I could hopefully ride her eventually?
I have SO much trouble with the bit! Most of the horses - wait - ALL of the horses I ride always move their head around, buck their head up and down, and I have to have like 2-3 people helping me put on his bit. I'm also pretty short so it's harder for me to control him from walking off. Any advice?
First video I've found that specifically says the best way to get their ears in thank you I did it wrong the first attempt I made so I'm studying to make sure I do it right next time
i’m buying my first horse soon and when i went to buy my bridle it looked so confusing and i was so scared i wouldnt do it right but ur video helped me so much and made it seem easier thanks 💕
Huh, I always wondered why English riders used nosebands, and what nosebands were used for in the first place. So it's basically pulled tight to stop them from opening their mouths?
MountainGoaat I wouldn't say it's pulled tight since you need to fit some fingers in there, but yeah. I've heard people say it's so the horse can't avoid the bit, but I learned that it was so the horse couldn't eat and get food stuck on the bit that it could choke on.
MountainGoaat well sometimes, but the reason I have the noseband is because to stop the horse from eating and chewing grass or other vegetation that could get stuck on the bit or choke the horse because of the bit, the horse can still open it’s mouth and such
I will not use my flash as mouth shutter it's so bad that ppl use it for this reason . I use it to keep the bit in place and to prevent the horse from crossing it's jaw!!
lolol im short so when im trying to do a tall horse and i get the bit in and then horse lifts its head and it falls out. and im like "fuck!" so annoying lol
Lol, do not take advice from people who cannot even spell the word bridle correctly. Bits are not abuse, please look up actual scientific studies and stop spreading misinformation. No, Dr. Cook is not a valid source. Hilary M Clayton PhD is a good one.
How many more ropes and straps could we wrap on this horse's face? Jeez. You say it's too tight then you don't even loosen it enough at all! People check out Think Like A Horse channel for horse knowledge..
The thing is, i always do it right and know how to do it, but i spend time making sure everything is perfect because i don’t wanna walk to the arena looking like an idiot and i convince myself i’m doing something wrong lol help
Putting bridle is the most difficult. I tried to give carrots to my horse so that he will cooperate, but he ate all the carrots and did not cooperate during bridle 🙄
“And just put youre thumb through the bit loop and place it on the gums. And now everyones happy.” BITCH WHAT?!! BITS ARE DISGUSTING AND THEY HIRT THE HORSE.
Why would you tighten that i hate when people do that. People need to learn that nosebands are bad and teaches bad horsemanship. Im sorry but if you need to have an extra mouth shutter thats just bad horsemanship also. Western people are also using nosebands. If your horses mouth is opening means you have hard hands and he or she is trying to escape too much pressure. Not saying this to be mean but this is one of the things i dislike about. Just antoher horse cheat to make the horse listen.
SwiftBreeze Stilll, i think it hurts the horses mouth.. "Depends how you use them," that is so wrong :P it is METAL, imagine putting METAL in your own mouth! Even if you pull it softly, the bit is still in front of their teeth and pulls back onto the teeth.. :/
Ashdyne _Art when you pull back, the bit puts pressure. It would suck to have something metal in your mouth for hours if you were an animal, but no one would understand. I think EVERY good rider would make a better improvement in the bond of them and their horse if they didnt count on bits for "control". My opinion anyway. But if you didnt be counting on bits because you think your horse will act better with pain bothering their tongue or gums, then your choice
It's not a matter of opinion though. Studies have been done. If bitted properly there is no pain. Bitless options can be just as problematic as bits, especially if you're just plopping around in a cheap halter. They can put pressure on hard tissues of the horse's face and cause paralysis or other injuries. All these bitless people don't actually do the necessary research and just jump on the trend because it sounds good. Or they quote Dr. Cook, which is embarrassing since we're taught in high school about biased sources and he's the definition of one. Also, the fact that you think the bit is pulled back into the teeth shoes you have no clue how they work.
I get depressed and cry when I realize I will never own a horse I' m 16 atm but my family can not afford one I have 1 lesson every week, but it's just not enough it's not the same as owing you're own horse you can't do what you want with it when you want 1 hour a week will never bee enough. The day I was born I swear i know I wanted to spend the rest of my life around horses and only being able to see them for 1 hour a week is cruelty, ever since I laid my eyes on a horse when I was only 3 on my first pony ride ever I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life around horses and animals, when people asked me when I was in prep what I wanted to be when I grew up I always said a vet and still to this day the answer has never changed, My life feels incomplete without a horse and knowing I will probably never own one as when I get older and can afford one I will not have ask much time to spend with it as i do now, and thinking about it makes me depressed and some nights i cry myself to sleep to the point where I feel life is pointless without a horse, I'm not allowed to own animals at all my life is shit i love animals but I can't have one, If I were to die right now I would not care because my life is shit anyway.
Um your life could be much worse... stop complaining just cause you don’t have a horse, you’re old enough to get a job and pay for one if you’re 16. Just cause you don’t have a horse doesn’t mean your life is pointless!!!
Well my parents didn't even give me a chance to learn how to ride a horse when I was young. They said it was a waste of money and too far of a drive. At 30, 31 now, I started with lessons since I now have the money but unfortunately not the time. And still they think I am doing something stupid and insignificant to my future. I heard you can help in barns and sometimes ride horses while helping.
+chloe dearan If you truly want it then you have to work for it. Nothing is served on a silver plate, you know. Work, work, work! Then you'll be thankful you didn't give up and chose to fight for your dreams.
You are rude and she is not hurting the horse she says clearly throughout the video how not to tighten it to much or to put the straps in the right place so that youre not cutting off where he breathes and as for making sure that he cant open his mouth on the nose strap is so he doesnt strain against the bit. Youre rude and. If you have nothing nice to say keep it to yourself. You dont even know her and you could be the reason she only has one video up because someone rude like you telling her she is hurting her own horse. RUDE!!!!! BYE FELICIA
You are right she is hurting her horse. Not by fastening the throat latch, but by fastening the nose band and the flash nose band to keep her horses mouth closed. When the horse mouth is clamped shut, the bit pushes against the roof of the mouth and causes more pain than when his mouth is open. Even though she thought that when he opened his mouth to strain against the bit, that isn't true. Horses always open their mouth to avoid the pain of the bit, not to strain against it. She was hurting her horse, but I'm sure it was an honest mistake.
Jorja Rose I realized you posted this 2 year ago. But you should realize she posted it in 2011. Things have changed from then to now. And so have people. I agree that bits aren't right. I prefer a bit less bridle. But for some shows you must use a bit.
That is a great horse! the lady is moving his head around, messing with his lips and he's just chillin.
Thanks. For so many years I have had trouble bridling the horse but the video really helped me!🐴🐎

Thank you so much. I always have trouble with the bridle
Very clear and simple representation. Straight to the point, not too much talking
I always got told two fingers for the noseband and four for the throatlash...I always have trouble putting the bridle on. Saddling up & adjusting the girth - completely fine. Putting the bit in..WOAH IT ALL GOES DOWNHILL FROM HERE.
Heidi you don’t seem like a equestrian 😬
Heidi same unfortunately
That special Equestrian And you don’t seem like a decent human. We all have our struggles.
That special Equestrian you very are a “special” equestrian since their are way to many things with what your doing in your profile.
Heidi same my teacher told me I had to look at videos so I can learn it since that’s my problem as well
Oh my goodness thank you! I have been recently working on bridling my horse when I go to ride at my lessons, and I just can't seem to get it on the right way. This helped a lot!

She was saying. “Extra mouth shutter.” and I was like GURL WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT EXTRA!? It’s the only mouth shutter. I COMPLETELY AGREE
Omg thanks you! I always have trouble! The little girls at my barn ask for help and I’m always like: Oh uhhhhhh let me get Anne!
Thank you so much this has helped me so much as a newish rider. I have always struggled with the bridle 😊
Thank you so much for making this video and explaining it in good detail!
Just starting to loan a horse and this has really helped my figure the bridle out, thanks! ❤️
i have seen TONS of videos on how to tack up a horse and this is the most helpful of them all. and actually, i think i might try putting my hand on top of his head to pull the bridle up, rather than holding his nose :) yeah... he hates the bridle :P haha :D

I like the horse its so pretty! :)
It's always good to learn something new.
Today I learned that horses have a metal stick in their mouth. Really, this is mindblowing.
he’s such a sweet horse
Thank you for the thorough explanation
This helped alot, thank you😊
I have a trial in 10 days at the NY Equestrian Center so I can get a job there. This video can help me

Thank you this really helped me with my lesson today
Good breakdown
Hey, I'm beginning to work with an older horse, who is also my first horse. She walks right up to me and is very sweet. She hasn't been ridden in some time. Any advice as to how I could get started training her so I could hopefully ride her eventually?
Sorry, this is a little late. But I would lunge her and do some ground work. When lunging, start without her saddle on, and then put it on
Niyah Howard Thank you so much! So excited to begin working with her now that the weather is warming up.
Take everything pretty slow because of her age. When she has gotten her work her harder, but not to hard that she can't handle it.
@@victoriavazquez681 ur a genius
VERY GOOD VIDEO. SHE PUTS SAFETY #1.
Hello Jillian thx so much.!.still need practice with this and very helpful to me. (especially opening the mouth
with thumb...) Rose Connolly
Aristotle claimed to guess how many teeth a horse has.
I have SO much trouble with the bit! Most of the horses - wait - ALL of the horses I ride always move their head around, buck their head up and down, and I have to have like 2-3 people helping me put on his bit. I'm also pretty short so it's harder for me to control him from walking off. Any advice?
Samantha Butler you are abusing the horse
Thank you so much! Awesome!
My horse poppy hates when people try to touch her ears and she only lets me tack her up😁
First video I've found that specifically says the best way to get their ears in thank you I did it wrong the first attempt I made so I'm studying to make sure I do it right next time
I’ve always had this question but does the bit go under the tongue or on top
On top- I hate bits I recommend at least trying a bit less bridle. Because it’s a lot better for the horse! But top!
This was actually helpful
i’m buying my first horse soon and when i went to buy my bridle it looked so confusing and i was so scared i wouldnt do it right but ur video helped me so much and made it seem easier thanks 💕
@BRENNA COLNER bro...what...you have to learn-
I would recommend trying a bitless bridle. It’s a lot better at least try.
@BRENNA COLNER the moment you realize you replied to a 2 year old comment 👁👄👁
Good tutorial
The throat lash is sooo tight omg
Ikr there was so many things wrong I was like 😑...are you even an equestrian...honey what. I AGREE

Is there a reason i can only hear this in my left ear
lolol im short so when im trying to do a tall horse and i get the bit in and then horse lifts its head and it falls out. and im like "fuck!" so annoying lol
Jenivera did u know that bits are abuse to horses u can just ride a bitless bridal or a halter
Lol, do not take advice from people who cannot even spell the word bridle correctly. Bits are not abuse, please look up actual scientific studies and stop spreading misinformation. No, Dr. Cook is not a valid source. Hilary M Clayton PhD is a good one.

Thanks about that awesome video I can finally put the bridle in my horses mouth and yes if you look at my channel I'm a boy, and yes I ride horses
Putting bridle is the most difficult. I tried to give carrots to my horse so that he will cooperate, but he ate all the carrots and did not cooperate during bridle 🙄
I'VE ALWAYS SEEN THIS AS ABUSE TO THE HORSES. TRY WEARING IT YOURSELF
And.. What if the horse your working with doesn't like you messing with their face!?
Yes I know Arians bae but I'm talking about the English way

Dont ride with bits! :(
You can if you want it's the riders choice or the horses if it prefers something else

that is not how you do it the english way
This is a correct way to do it. There are many different ways to bridle a horse, it all just depends on preference.

How? This is one of the most instructional videos of bridling on UA-cam, and she is doing it perfectly, her horse is comfortable
