I am a relatively new rider, and this video was incredibly helpful to me. Succinct but also comprehensive. Just what I was looking for. Please make more videos!
Welcome to the equestrian community! Its do fun doing different disciplines such as jumping dressage barrel racing and MUCH more! Any questions you can reply to me and I'll answer as soon as I can!
FINALLY. A video that actually showed the procedure. How many times did I watch, leave early, where the instructor zipped through it AND BLOCKED THE VIEW. Its been a while since I rode and wasn't an old hand at it to being with. But circumstances caused me to miss several years and I needed refreshing on the basics. Thank you for making this clear and not racing through the process. 7-4-1 rule, never heard of it but so helpful.
I’m a new rider and I wanted to commend you on your thoroughness. Your explanation of each saddle part and the saddling of the horse as very helpful. You and your videographer are great! Thanks!,
I haven't personally owned my own horse for decades (🥺) but I know these exact steps verbatim.. with my eyes closed.. in my sleep. Perfection. This is so satisfying to watch. If you're a horse person, then you know ♥️🐴
Thank you for sharing this! I was asked to ride one of my friends horses while she is away in university...I didn't realize that she only rode western! -I have done english riding for over 20 years now so western riding is a different ball park here (mainly the girth part lol) This video was super helpful and a great way to quick-reference in case I forgot the "7-4-1" method!
@@alphaholloway like I saw one of her vids about people making their horses jump from a small ledge into water and she freaks out about it about their riding style and about peoples weight which is wrong on so many levels
Last time I was tacking up my horse alone, I was very confused on what to do and how to do it. Especially with western since my saddles are really heavy. Thank you!! I’ll definitely pull up this video next time I’m tacking up alone!!
I live about 20 minutes from sunset trails, I ride English, and I go to Star Time Meadows and my trainer is Jonni (Jonatha) Adams/Allen and she is a really good dressage trainer. I want to start western but the barn I go to doesn't have a western trainer and only owns one western saddle. My dad doesnt want to move barns because we cant afford it, the only reason I can afford lessons now is because my trainer gave me a discount because ive been best friends with her daughter since before I even started riding. I really like English though, so its ok.
I am just starting horse back riding lessons, there could not be a more helpfull video on the internet Your horse is amazing you can talk clearly and are confident when your speaking. 5 stars 💖⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
this was really comprehensive. thankyou. i am an English rider and for professional opportunity i need to know how to tack up a western saddle properly. will deffiently be watching this again.
Very informative we are new with horses we rescued 3 Arabian horses they are doing amazing and healthy after a long time process making sure they were ok they are happy and this video is very very good thank you
Great video. So clear and you take your time and give room to the camera. Pad placement, cinch belt and 741 tip all so helpful to me. Just getting bavk to it after 30yrs. Thank you.
It’s been a long time since riding but I really appreciate your addressing rechecking the tightness of the cinch. So many videos don’t. I liked the 741 tip as well!
Cool videos I have been riding horse since I was 6 months old with my mom helping me I started riding by myself when I was 3yrs old now I’m 12 yrs old and this would be so helpful to people who don’t know
I have been riding for years now but I have mainly only been riding english jumping, I'm a eventer but because I couldn't find a barrel racing instructor till now I kinda get confused on how to do the girth since it's different than english girths and I only really get to ride western while trail riding and some practices but I finally have my first barrel racing lesson tomorrow and I just want to make sure I got down how to do the girth correctly before I go ,thank you!!!
Thank you so much! I’m a new rider and have been struggling with the saddle. I’m going to take my phone in with me in the stall and do it step by step so I don’t have to ask for help! You explained it very well!
My daughter is learning to ride and looking into possibly buying her a horse and I was super nervous about the bit, but this puts me at ease, knowing I can teach her.
Also something that she forgot to mention in the video whilst synching up you should always make sure that your stirrup doesn't fall down when you're leaning over because it does hurt when you get smacked in the head with your stirrup I've had it happen In for some of you experienced riders also you probly of had this happen also I had metal stirrups at the time and I was writing in a barrel saddle
I know this is an old video but- Thank you so much! The video got straight to the point and didn't stall with useless info, As someone who rides english often. This was a huge help
thank you so much for turning it around, i just got my horse oliver and he is a freisain, i watched a different video on this, and she didn’t turn the horse around, so you helped a lot ❤️
Thank you so much I just got my horse on Christmas she is not in my barn yet we don’t have a fence yet this really helped now my sister doesn’t have to put my saddle on for me 😅 😊 thank you so much 😊 I really appreciate it 😊
“Always tack up on the left side!”... me tacks up my horse on the right sometimes. I do both because my horse hasn’t had much work done on the right. I use it to get him used to being on that side.
She said “This is one of the most important parts of the saddle” like 10 different times. I guess every part is an important part! 😂 I love it. Thank you!
Great video. The terminology was very helpful. Is there a rule of thumb with regard to how heavy/light a western saddle should be for a horse given its size and/or breed? Thanks.
Thank you so much for making this! I ride English but I started Western last Wednesday. We are learning to tack up western and this is very helpful. I’m so excited and nervous because I have a lesson tonight at 7pm hopefully I’ll do a better job on tacking up now 😂👍🏼
i"am new with horses and were training some horses to be rideble and i thought maybe watching a video wood help and you explained it all so well thx so much
This really helped me! I’m prob gonna take horse riding lessons, and if your gonna take lessons then you need to know how to tack up and all of that because there’s not really volunteers to help you
thank you for making this helped me as a kid to where i know where to put the girth and where to put saddle and its saddle pad so thanks for making this
I've been riding with English tack for many years but have just bought a Western saddle to try. I'm wondering why there is a buckle on the left hand side of the girth if it isn't supposed to be used? This really confused me putting the saddle on for the first time!
I’m getting back into riding and the horse i’m looking at rides western so i’m gonna test ride her western and I haven’t ridden western in forever so this is really helpful, especially when you forget how to cinch😂
Who here knows how to tack up but loves watching these videos anyway?

Hey, RaleighLink14 used to board her horse at this stable! Surprised nobody's mentioned that yet haha
No she hasn't, she has always lived in Colorado and this barn is based out of Missouri

You explain this really well and slow. Easy to follow ❤
I’ve never racked up a horse before, hopefully this year I will!

Go to work on a ranch. Buck hay, milk cows etc. While doing that ride their horses and get your experience.
I have ridden English for a long time and am just now trying western so this was very helpful in learning how to saddle my horse myself

The girth is called a cinch on western and a girth on a English saddle FYI
They do the same thing, it dosnt really matter

actually i ride western and i have all my life. we call it both but mainly a girth.
Hm. I've always called it a cinch and I've been riding for 12+ years.

I liked your video a lot but i recommend using a different bit or a hackamore because tom thumbs can be really painful
I like how you explained the 7,4,1 I just bought my first horse
Very good information, well explained. Learn something new!
I've been riding with English tack for many years but have just bought a Western saddle to try. I'm wondering why there is a buckle on the left hand side of the girth if it isn't supposed to be used? This really confused me putting the saddle on for the first time!
I've seen some use it and some not. Depends if a hole in the latigo lines up or not when tight enough. If it doesn't the buckle isn't used.
I’m getting back into riding and the horse i’m looking at rides western so i’m gonna test ride her western and I haven’t ridden western in forever so this is really helpful, especially when you forget how to cinch😂
