- This is going to be very different than my other content. Welcome to the Mitrou Project! The island of Mitrou is an island in central Greece that saw continuous habitation from the Neolithic through the early iron age. So now that the island is here, lets see if we can shape it.
The Mitrou Project is a proof of concept in Minecraft that will be the building block for a much larger and more ambitious project in the future. This will eventually have a late Bronze age settlement on it and interpretive trail.
Come along as I figure out how to use things like Worldedit and commands in order to bring the island and its inhabitants to life!

It is pretty fascinating to watch you turn that chunky mess into the properly-textured island. I'm excited to see it transform from a piece of land to a bronze age settlement.

i think calcite would be a good substatute for sandstone, it give a more limestone look. Also, it might be too modded, but i think Quark and Building Wand would be some good additions. Specifically, Quart has an abacus, which is good for measuring, and building wand helps with filling and landscaping but those are more forge mod reccomemdations, to help with the build to make things a little easier.
It’s cool to see the whole process. I realize that isn’t for everyone, and Daskalos could have just started the series with the island in this state, but I’m a fan of seeing this part of the world building.
I really wanted to be super transparent with this series and take you all through the steps along the way. :)
@@daskalosBCE I enjoy this kind of stuff. Like “behind the scenes” for props and stunts, but Minecraft. One day, when you’re a world edit pro, I think you’ll enjoy looking back on this.
I want to thank you for introducing me to the 1% rule - as someone who builds wildlife conservation/National/State Park -like areas in MMO type environments, it's given me something to think about with regards to area planning - this is something I hadn't been familiar with, and it I think will add a level of realism to those builds.
That is really fascinating. Especially what you said about the 99:1% rule.
To texture the sandstone, stripped birch logs or "stripped" brown mushroom blocks or bone blocks are often used. And if you want the cobble-like texture of normal sandstone on top, you can place sandstone stairs upside down.
For the biome you can maybe use a brush (/brush biome [-c] [radius] ) to paint two or three different biomes to get the effect like in the image. In addition to the savanna, I was thinking of wooded badlands or maybe swamp, which already has 2 different interesting colors.
I wonder how you'd like Vintage Story, with its greater emphasis on realism and detailed building.
If this is a recent version of Minecraft I think they added a command to change an areas biome. I think Xisumavoid covered it a while ago in I think it was 1.20 snapshots

if you're doing more projects like this you might look into Voxel Sniper Reimagined, if you can learn how to use it, it is SO fast, like a paintbrush
mostly you use /b e ball to build terrain, /b e melt to smooth it out, /b over [depth] to add overlay details on terrain or to stack up hills or plateaus (w gunpowder), /v [material] to change your block, /vr [material] to choose what block to replace
a lot of this terrain coloring could be done with /b ball and /vr dirt and you just dot where you want the colors to be

19:12 Dunno if you read my comment on the first video in this project (about increasing RAM allocation to Minecraft), but the stuff in that comment can help with this, too. You can adjust the maximum allowed blocks in a volume selection. However, doing so can be resource-intensive (makes the game and your computer work harder), so having enough RAM when using a larger max volume is essential. You can follow the instructions I left on the other video to set about increasing RAM allocation (or find a tutorial elsewhere- there's plenty, and my feelings won't be hurt), and then you can increase the maximum allowed blocks with the command /gamerule commandModificationBlockLimit [number]. In this particular selection, you'd selected just under ten million blocks. If you think your computer can handle all of that just fine, go for it. However, I'd recommend starting somewhere around two million just to get a feel for the lag it'll generate. You can run shaders, so maybe you'll do just fine with ten million, but definitely take it up in increments just to make sure.
Both episodes were recorded back to back. So no comments in the first video were seen before the second. And now I’m pretty much done with the world edit portion of things
It loos good! I know this is gonna come too late, but you can actually turn tools or weapons into brushes that paint blocks onto an existing build using the replace command! It does require setting the command onto the brush again if you log out, but its SUPER useful! Especially because you can set the shape that it paints to not be a square!

The 1/99 rule was something I'd never considered before. It was fascinating to hear about it.
