@@specialgamer6852 looking back now, I think its because he stated that the double bond should be the lowest no. The double bond's position takes precedence when determining the name. Since you can have the double bond on Carbon 1 with a 7-carbon chain, you must use that option because it gives the double bond the lowest possible number.

Feeling much more prepared for my exam today. Thank you so much for this. Just wish I found this video sooner but now I know where to look for future assistance!
For the example at 8:33, isn't the priority to find the longest chain? As such, shouldn't the left ethyl group be part of the chain, and the double-bond be called a 2 methyl groups?
8:10 a little doubt... If we count on the left side including the double bond it becomes 8 which means octene and u said that we should give priority to that double bond but why?
Right. At first I'm like oh easy, double bonds means end everything with ene ... then came the addition of other molecules being attached which made it even more confusing as well as multiple double bonds turning it into diene, triene, etc and having to put it all in alphabetical order 😭

For the example at 8:33, isn't the priority to find the longest chain? As such, shouldn't the left ethyl group be part of the chain, and the double-bond be called a 2 methyl groups?
其實我真的不知道,但我一定會找到答案的
8:10 a little doubt... If we count on the left side including the double bond it becomes 8 which means octene and u said that we should give priority to that double bond but why?
It’s in IUPAC rules that the highest priority substituent must be included in the longest chain

Hello! I think the parent chain in 8:11 is octane.
I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be octane either 8:16
And why would I skip an ad for this man?

8:13 Doesn't the longest chain contain 8 carbons if you start from the leftmost one and go down the ethyl group?
No because you need to start counting carbons at the double bonds.
@@adamhalmy9398 Oh okay yes. Thanks :)
Technically as of the latest rules, yes it does. The double bond would be named as a methylidene group.

At 8:30 isn't that longest parent chain should start from the farthest left to the lowest right?. Which would make it 8 carbon and not 7?
No, thar would exclude the double bond from the longest chain
@@paysonkeown2960 thanks i get it now
Wouldn't the example 7:58 be: 5-ethyl-3-octene ? Because if you start from the most left CH3 it's the longest chain.
That's because, we need to include the double bond in the main chain
when identifying the parent chain: highest number of double bonds > highest number of carbons
Thanks mate my examination been made easy am gonna ace it I promise
At 11:55, isn't it Trans?
