Hello Louise, it's great to hear you've had a good week! Edinburgh is a really beautiful city, did you have a nice time there when you visited? I hope you enjoy this video down the glen!
You are a gem Ruth to help those people and lend them your Star-Link! Very Scottish of you! I have had several people offer me help when visiting Scotland, as I often stop my car to view wildlife or take photos. I had tradesman in the highlands ask if I needed help and he then let me into a fenced off construction area to see deer. Elsewhere, I had a farmer stop to ask me if my car was alright when I stopped to take a photo of a sunset. The best was when I stopped to help a deer tangled up in a fence, and a man in a business suit stopped to help and even got his shoes muddy! What a wonderful sense of humanity in Scotland! LOVELY GLEN VIDEO RUTH!
That's why I really want to visit Scotland! The Scots are very friendly. Congratulations on taking the initiative to help. Beautiful valley, great video 👏👏🥰🇧🇷
What a wonderful trip. I loved the munros, the two sheep running in front of your van, and God bless you for helping those folks. Car problems are a miserable thing. Enjoyed watching this.
Leaving your Starlink with strangers reminded me how wonderful the Scots really are. I was in Edinburgh for the Fringe and Tattoo and had 2 events that showcased Scottish honesty. 1, I left my wallet in a taxi and when I called the company, the driver had it and brought it to me, intact. 2, I was queued for an ATM, and dropped my wallet. The girls behind me tapped me on the shoulder and handed it to me. Really heartwarming. I can't wait to get back. 💙💙
These explorations provide a great ambassadorial service for Britain and a helpful guide for people intending to visit the British Isles or simply travel vicariously from their armchairs. The relevant British, Scottish and regional tourist boards ought to provide a donation.
Just a word of warning. I've been up those Tayside Glens from Kirriemuir (JM Barrie) and you _do not_ want to go their in high summer! A hideous stream of bumper-to-bumper traffic upways and down. Sometimes there are limits to numbers of cars allowed through but nevertheless, it can be pretty unpleasant. Fortunately, a very short season and for eleven months of the year they are perfect realms of tranquillity and solitude.
Lovely video Ruth, Glen Lyon is a very picturesque place and a big hats off to you for going above and beyond by entrusting your starlink equipment with those unlucky travellers....though they were very lucky you happened along the same track when you did. Great to see kindness like that! 👏👏
Bless you Ruth for helping others in time of need, your one in a million, kind and thoughtful. Love your videos, great viewing somewhere different. xx 🙏💜💚💚
Hi Ruth, I am a subscriber and still serving in the Army. The Black Watch (BW) still exists and they're currently at Fort George in Inverness. I joined the BW back in 1994 but I have since transferred to a different element of the Army. Thanks for the videos 🫡
We are visiting Scotland in our van, up from Cornwall for the whole of september. We actually went to the Yew tree today. Its 5000 years old, not 3000. Thanks for all the info, we didn't know about Glen Lyon :0)
Hi Ruth, it is interesting to watch your travel videos exploring new destinations that not many have done. Your simple language and crystal clear tone made it easier for non-native speakers like myself to grasp and understand. I reckons that Scotland should engage you as one of the tourism ambassador. Your kind generosity have indeed saved fellow travellers from the nightmare of broken down vehicle. Be safe always.
Back in the 70's we used to camp at Aberfeldy when we did canoe slaloms at Grand Tully, a few miles down the Tay. This is a spectacularly beautiful part of Scotland.
Thank you for bringing my family’s heritage to life. We live in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I visited England and Scotland when I was 14…61 now lol. Being 67% Scottish and 33% Irish, we enjoy and cherish all aspects of our Celtic family history. Thanks again for your breathtaking images, videos and your beautiful voice bringing it all to life 🙌❤️🇨🇦🏴🇮🇪
Am so glad you mentioned the Cailleach! I love Her stories and wildness. We have thatched cottages all over Dorset where I live, not so common in Scotland though I imagine. 🙂
The Black Watch were independent companies raised because of the Jacobite uprising from highland clans loyal to the Whigs; hence their connection to Perthshire. It is no longer a regiment by itself, but is part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, as the 3rd battalion (3 SCOTS). They have a long and storied history. They were known as the Royal Highland Regiment, and you'd find that Canada also has a regiment: the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada. It's quartered in Montreal. Canada has a number of Highland and Scottish military regiments.
Wonderful video to remember our holidays last October, when we visited Glen Lyon last time. From Bridge of Balgie we did a walk to Fionn's Rock, also called Praying hands of Mary, an amazing rock an great views from there. Too bad that the tea room was closed, it's really worth a visit.
What a beautiful, quiet part of Alba. Not only a documentary but also a recovery unit. I'd love to see an upgrade of the van. Yet another great video; you never cease to amaze!!
One of my favourite places in Scotland, we had a wonderful week there a couple of years ago, and we've been back to the cafe on day trips a couple of times just because their coffee is so so good!
Glen Lyon is possibly my favourite glen. It's a hidden Glen. From Fortingall the road forces it's way past the guardian mountains, then opens up in to a lovely fertile valley. I was there 3 weeks ago and I'm currently wearing my Glen Lyon Tea room T-shirt. I won't say where in the Glen I saw this, but I watched an osprey fishing in the river. From Bridge of Balgie, there's a side road that leads over a pass between the Ptarmigan ridge and Ben Lawers, it's a spectacular road and passes a very photogenic series of waterfalls, with a new path making access easier. Thank you for rescuing the stranded travellers. Last week one of my fuel injectors failed and I was stranded on the side of Loch Awe While you're in Aberfeldy you should go up the Birks, especially in Autumn for the tree colours, at the head of the walk is one of the UK's best waterfalls, further along Loch Tay, at Acharn, is another spectacular waterfall.
Every time I glance over to the memorabilia (from distilleries) I purchased from your beautiful country, not enough I am coming back. Your videos is making it more tempting. I need to visit Islay, Glenfarclas, Glenturret, Orkney . Been there but need to visit SPACA
Hi Ruth Another good one. My recollection of Aberfeldy and the surrounding area is in the 1960's our school organised camping at a place called Dalguise runs along the River Tay, it even snowed one year when I was there and you had to make do with straw bags under your sleeping bag. They were called a palliasse. You did well helping the people in the broken down car! Kind Regards Crawford
Hello Ruth. You can actually continue past the power station and you arrive very close to the village of Killin. What a great gesture to help the stranded people and leave them with your Starlink kit. They must have thought their guardian angel had arrived. I love your videos.
Thanks for the videos that show the local areas of some of our Ancestors. Some of them may have come from this Glen. The Ancestors came from nearly every part of Scotland and from several Clans. We were told years ago to always remember, " the Ancestors are Scots, not Scotch ". Some people here do not know the difference, so we very gently inform. After all, what do they know of Scotland.
What a lovely person you are Ruth. Thanks for sharing your trip down the glen. I once went to the power station you passed with a 26 ton 6 wheeler lorry. Didn't go all the way to the end but I'm inspired to take our motorhome down some time. Keep safe and thank you.
Hey there Ruth! Just to verify time lines on the weather,I'm 57 and I have never known a summer as wet,and at times cold as this. A few folks I know are a bit older than me, and they likewise don't recall the weather being like this. Stunning views Ruth, and fantastic intel as usual! (You're a star Ruth) 🙂 The church looks amazing with those hills around. WOW and that home stretch run through the glen is amazing indeed. And bless you for helping those folks that were stranded. God bless and much ♥to you.
My second podcast viewed and I must say your natural charm compliments the exciting journeys, well done young lady you are now added to my podcast viewing!
You are only about an hour away from the family graveyard I went to Scotland to find. It was such an honor to go clean the graves (after we found them in the bushes first!). Lovely video, thanks for sharing!
What a beautiful area. Stunning villages & scenery. I'm 10 minutes into the video as I write this but Ruth, you just made me laugh out loud..... It's of course true that much of Scotland has had a very wet summer, but to hear this the day after my Sussex village almost flooded due to monsoon-esque style rain last night, made me chuckle. Of course, down here we get way less rain than Scotland, but the timing of that comment on the video released the day after what I just experienced showed that somebody upstairs has a sense of humour. Keep up the great work, and stay dry.....
Thank goodness you came along and could help those people. The Glen is lovely. We love visiting the Glens of Antrim on each visit to N Ireland. And of course Glen Coe is magnificent. Do visit the Black Watch museum; well worth it.
I love your videos and the way you give so much history and beautiful footage of the Scottish countryside. Makes a person want to go there and experience it. Thank you.
Ruth -- would love to see an updated tour/status of your camper van -- maybe late in the year when the weather isn't so great for trips. Would be interested in any maintenance issues that you have encountered -- it was great that you had shared about the side-door issue and the rust that you worked on. My (in-progress) 'non-invasive' conversion of my 2006 Toyota Sienna CE (base model in the US -- looks like this style was not sold in the UK) has me a little concerned about items that won't age too well (undercoating, rust-proofing). But I really like your DIY convenience additions in your van -- so I'd love to see an update!!! Cheers!
The Black Watch was the local regiment for Perthshire and Kinross, Ruth. Until the early 1960's they were based at the Queen's Barracks in Perth, but owing to various changes in the British Army's structure, they're now part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. The Queen's Barracks name lives on in a suburb of Perth however, as an Army Cadets centre. If you do go to the museum at Balhousie Castle, be aware there is a very nice restaurant in the visitors centre that is sure to please your taste buds, but it does get very busy around lunchtimes, so you may wish to book a table in advance! You should also have time to visit the new Perth Museum in the compact city centre, too. The centrepiece of this is the Stone of Destiny, which is also known as the Stone of Scone, set within audio-visual presentations; and again you have to book a slot to see, this in advance. The museum is otherwise free to wander around at your leisure I found two hours was about right - prior to my slot of the Stone... Now that the museum has moved out, the former building in George Street is known as Perth Art Gallery, with both much-expanded facilities winning many awards and accolades already! There's much else to see and do around Perth in addition, so you may to consider spending a day or two around there, at some point. (Scone Palace, Kinnoull Hill, Huntingtower and Elcho Castles, The Bield at Blackruthven, Gloagburn Farm Shop at Tibbermore, St John's Kirk, The Salutation Hotel, Greyfriars Burial Ground, the City Mills - and there's an excellent local history and family research facility within the AK Bell Library - to name just a few!). Also, do go to Dunkeld and The Hermitage...! Thank-you so much for the tour of Glen Lyon - I thnk I may have been there as a small child, and I was fortunate enough to revisit the Fortingall Yew again last year; but as I don't drive, it's unlikely I'll ever be there again and so, this serves as a lovely reminder. The vague memory I have is that it is that upper end that is the loveliest; as most visitors don't go there, but use the Ben Lawers mountain road to join or leave the lower part of the glen. I do come from Perth originally and so, it is possible that I may be biased; but out of all of the stunning Scottish Highlands, the (historic) Perthshire bits take some beating, if you ask me!
Your fantastic camera work, commentary with historical information, provides a wonderful showcase for breathtaking scenery, places and facilities in stunning Scotland. The weather was beautiful on your trip. It looked so green (well watered from the wet summer), your drone footage is amazing. It’s great you have a van you are happy and comfortable with, that suits your needs. It was a beautiful drive, with that stunningly beautiful scenery. So lovely you were able to help those people who had broken down and you had the equipment to be able to summon help. Well Done Ruth Lovely Vlog and Thank You for Sharing
Thanks for the tour of a Glen that was on my list for a visit with me electric mountain bike but as the summer was so poor I never got the chance. Definitely a trip for next year.
Another lovely video. My wife and I watched it having our Sunday tea. We live in the Northern Highlands and it's so interesting sometimes when watching these videos that we find things we didn't know about. Thank you once again !
As a 1980s kid I think my favourite Glen in Scotland would have to be Glen Michael. I wouldn't be surprised if it was him that planted that Yew tree. Thanks again for another beautiful video.
I enjoyed this video, and good on you for helping the stranded people. I am off to Scotland (Inverness and Edinburgh) in a 10 days, and am looking forward to it. We won't camp, but are taking several highland tours. I will show this to my daughter, a bartender, and see if she knows about Dewar's. We have been to Scotland several times before, and love it.
Wow, So beautiful. And great that you came along to help. Really enjoy the research you do for your videos. Please do a new van tour. Scotland is my favorite place.
Thank you for taking us along on another wonderful adventure in beautiful Scotland. Yes, let's have an update tour of the changes and upgrades to Ernie.
Well Ruth you have one of the best days this summer, how good is that, great scenery as well. We often go to Killin then along through Aberfeldy and on to Pitlochry. Last trip we headed up to Loch Tummel and on to the North. Clearly we missed Glen Lyon, so close ech! Lovely video and well done assisting the folks broken down. Without your assistance they would have been stuck for a while, overnight for sure!! 10/10👍👍Cheers Mike🥃🥃
Hi Ruth another interesting watch of another epic countryside place in Scotland I love it! Such gorgeous scenery everywhere , Very nice of you to help those stranded people along the way as well as very trusting with your equipment. Thank you ruth for another beautiful adventure .
Ruth, helping those people was massively generous of you! Thanks for being extra lovely (You are always lovely, so it's an extra!). The video was great. Loved to see the glen, it looks great!!!
I went to uni in Stirling and did so many random drives out for miles with friends. We saw signs for Aberfeldy so many times, but never went there. Wish we had now! Beautiful part of the world. And you really were a guardian angel to those stranded people. The stress they must have been under. And to be able to help people like that really makes life worthwhile. Well done 😊
@@ruthaisling I've got a wife and 2 children now, none of whom have ever been to Scotland. They've missed out! One day we'll make it back 😊. Love your videos, and I went onto your website. I saw that you have an interest in eco-living and tiny homes. If you ever watch videos on UA-cam yourself, can I recommend taking a look at Tiny Cabin Life (if you're not already aware of it..)? This channel has a similar 'vibe' to yours, and I've found it so relaxing and interesting. Sure you'd love it. Thanks for showing me where I'm going to be dragging my I-pad addicted children to in the future also 😂
Another Great Video Ruth and those people who broke down were so lucky to meet you! Glad you got your Van to stay in and able to drive back ok late at night.😊
SIS I don't know what to say. It is either the sawdust in my eyes or the BLACK WATCH MEMORIAL THAT CAUSED ME TO WEEP AGAIN. Damn it all. It reminds me so much of MRS. CASH a war bride with the maiden name of SCOTT. She had such a wonderful sense of humor and a twin sister who cut up the thirteen yard family tarton for her weading dress. She worked our local employment office and no one but me seamed to get her humor. They just wanted to get sighned up for unemployment and get out. She told me that anyone with the last name of SCOTT was related no matter what color they are. She also had a framed montage of a swatch of the actual tarton, Our coat of arms and a picture of the original home place. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING ME REMEMBER THESE THINGS. Please take GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF. AND THANKS FOR HELPING THOSE FOLKS. IT'S WEIRD HOW WE ALWAYS GET CALLED TO DO THESE THINGS. IT'S A BLESSING. GOOD LUCK.
I am so delighted to see you with this new cabin project I cannot wait to see you transforming it! What an Epic project well done🎉 to you both Take care Sabrina 🇫🇷🇬🇧

Best quote from Local Hero..."I'll make a good Gordon...Gordon" you should watch it soon Ruth🙂
@@rojomostratI’m always too busy making videos rather than watching them! 😂
@@ruthaisling And 'Blessed' (2008) with James Nesbitt and Natascha McElhone.
Yeah it was so lucky! 🍀
Bless you Ruth for helping others in time of need, your one in a million, kind and thoughtful. Love your videos, great viewing somewhere different. xx 🙏💜💚💚
Thanks Patricia, I’m sure they would have done the same for me!
Hi Ruth, I am a subscriber and still serving in the Army. The Black Watch (BW) still exists and they're currently at Fort George in Inverness. I joined the BW back in 1994 but I have since transferred to a different element of the Army. Thanks for the videos 🫡
Ohhh I didn’t know this! Former Army wife here. Thanks for this info. X
Thank you for sharing about this! I was wondering!
We are visiting Scotland in our van, up from Cornwall for the whole of september. We actually went to the Yew tree today. Its 5000 years old, not 3000. Thanks for all the info, we didn't know about Glen Lyon :0)
Have a super trip!
That is beautiful Ruth.
Also so kind of you to help them out.
True Scottish hospitality ❤❤🎉🎉
Thanks Sean!
I always enjoy your trips. I may not be able to be there in person but you help me feel like I am there.
Thanks for this. It is great to see the home glen of my 4 times Great Grandmother Katherine MacNaughton of Moar.
Very interesting, w.
Lovely looking Thumbnail there Ruth,
And Big Congratulations over 112K,Nice one,
Excellent upload as always 👍
Thank you so much 😀
That was so thoughtful of you and kind of you to help the stranded travelers. Ruth may you have a blessed week ahead.
Great video, love the Scottish place names!
There you showed your love when you helped those who were stuck on the road.
It is so beautiful to see.
The valley is also beautiful.
The pictures of the cakes looked so good! I guess a reason to go back…
You is a fine wee lassie, so kind of you helping those people. You are amazing.
Thanks for watching this video!
Starlink should be sponsoring you, What an Awesome person you are!!
Haha, that would be amazing. I don't think they sponsor many people though!
@@ruthaislingsend them a link to your video , you and their equipment saved the day for those people.
What a beautiful, quiet part of Alba. Not only a documentary but also a recovery unit. I'd love to see an upgrade of the van. Yet another great video; you never cease to amaze!!
Haha! I’ll try and film one over the next few months!
One of my favourite places in Scotland, we had a wonderful week there a couple of years ago, and we've been back to the cafe on day trips a couple of times just because their coffee is so so good!
That is a beautiful place and your are truly great for these standard motorists. Great video friend Ruth 💓 ☀️👍
Thank you 😊

Last week one of my fuel injectors failed and I was stranded on the side of Loch Awe
While you're in Aberfeldy you should go up the Birks, especially in Autumn for the tree colours, at the head of the walk is one of the UK's best waterfalls, further along Loch Tay, at Acharn, is another spectacular waterfall.
Thanks for the tips! I hope you got your vehicle sorted out.
Yes please to another "van tour"! We are looking to buy a camper van in the near future and all your hints and tips are really useful!
Hello Ruth. You can actually continue past the power station and you arrive very close to the village of Killin. What a great gesture to help the stranded people and leave them with your Starlink kit. They must have thought their guardian angel had arrived. I love your videos.
Oh that is really great to know. I did see a road with the drone, is it suitable to do on with a van like mine?
Killin is a lovely village. It has very rocky rapids running right through it and after wet weather the water really thunders through.
You should try it!!
(You're a star Ruth) 🙂
The church looks amazing with those hills around.
WOW and that home stretch run through the glen is amazing indeed.
And bless you for helping those folks that were stranded.
God bless and much ♥to you.
Missing you, Ruth. Hope you are well & we are waiting for more videos. Love your channel!!! 🤗❤️
Working on it! Coming soon…
@@ruthaisling ok, take your time!! Just mainly checking up on you!!

My second podcast viewed and I must say your natural charm compliments the exciting journeys, well done young lady you are now added to my podcast viewing!
Thank you so much 😊
You are only about an hour away from the family graveyard I went to Scotland to find.
Thank God you were there for the people who broke down 😊 Thanks for a great show today 💝
It was lucky timing! ⏱️
Thank goodness you came along and could help those people. The Glen is lovely. We love visiting the Glens of Antrim on each visit to N Ireland. And of course Glen Coe is magnificent. Do visit the Black Watch museum; well worth it.
Oh I’ll need to visit when I’m in Ireland sometime! Ok I’ll make sure to visit that museum, thank you!
Ruthie! Super girl! Helping those people. Wow, talk about an awesome Glenn! Thanks for taking me along!
Thanks so much Bert!
I love your videos and the way you give so much history and beautiful footage of the Scottish countryside. Makes a person want to go there and experience it. Thank you.
Thank you very much!
Great video, well done for the roadside assistance. And yes, I’d love a van tour…didn’t see the first one. 😊
Lovely video. I would seeing your camper van and the new changes.
Definitely green and well watered this year!!
Thanks for the tour of a Glen that was on my list for a visit with me electric mountain bike but as the summer was so poor I never got the chance. Definitely a trip for next year.
The weather was so awful this year, hopefully better luck next year!
Another lovely video. My wife and I watched it having our Sunday tea. We live in the Northern Highlands and it's so interesting sometimes when watching these videos that we find things we didn't know about. Thank you once again !

Hallo Ruth
The whisky Dewar is one of my preferities.
Good video as ever:
So long and one 🌹for you.

Very nice of u to help them out ❤
As a 1980s kid I think my favourite Glen in Scotland would have to be Glen Michael.
Have a great trip!
Another great road trip. I only got to Fortingall... back in 2008. Well done on the road recovery mission.
Wow, So beautiful. And great that you came along to help. Really enjoy the research you do for your videos. Please do a new van tour. Scotland is my favorite place.

Well Ruth you have one of the best days this summer, how good is that, great scenery as well. We often go to Killin then along through Aberfeldy and on to Pitlochry. Last trip we headed up to Loch Tummel and on to the North. Clearly we missed Glen Lyon, so close ech!

Well done 😊
Thank you 🙏 you need to go back and visit Aberfeldy sometime!
What an Epic project well done🎉 to you both
