Your best yet… gorgeous photography, jaw-dropping drone shots and fascinating insights into the history. Just jam-packed with content, I was transported for a wonderful half-hour to the Orkneys. Thanks so much!
Your videos are so much like the classic travel shows I used to love growing up. Production is great and always full of interesting info and of course, so well presented. Keep it up👏🏽
Most of your life is listening to others and awareness of how life is and has been through the ages. I appreciate your uplifting message to make this world feel welcoming in far away homes and people like Scotland. Hello Ruth ❤, in Vietnam, when a loved one passes away, after 49 days there is a small ceremony and gathering to remember this person. The same way after 100 days. And every year, on the anniversary day of the passing (on the lunar calendar), there is a big ceremony and gathering to remember this person.
Ruth - I hope you see this. I live in Lancaster PA. There was a department store named Watt and Shand in Lancaster. I had the chance to meet the great-granddaughter of Peter Watt. Her name is Nancy Groff and she has written a book called Watt and Shand. The store was open from 1879-1992. She has visited Orkney on several occasions because Peter Watt was from Orkney. What a great coincidence to see your video about Orkney.
Ruth has a beautiful magic about her. I can feel the joy and excitement of the amazing places she takes us in Scotland. Thank you Ruth. I wish you much success.
I'm a retired art history teacher. I've always been interested in Skar-a-brea. Used to teach it to my kids! The corbelled architecture is fascinating.😄
My wife and I walked from Rackwick to the Old Man and back nearly forty years ago and remember being divebombed by skuas which was quite an experience. The trudge over the headland to the stack was quite hard going and we visited the Dwarfie Stane too. The view of the Old Man can be spectacular from the deck of the North Link ferry from Scrabster to Stromness, especially when the weather is clement. I love your adventures in the Hebrides, it reminds me of my times exploring the islands. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for showing us the beauty of Scotland's nature. In the opening and other parts of this video, we can see striped rock layers on the coastal cliffs. It is believed that long ago, more than 8,500 years ago, the seabed was uplifted due to tectonic changes, became land, and was further eroded, eventually becoming part of the coastline. The grandeur of this natural process is truly awe-inspiring, isn't it?
Thank you so much for these fascinating videos. I'm from Peru, and your trips are almost other-worldly. Your presentation and personality make them great.
@@ruthaisling I really do. Your heartwarming feelings about Scotland make one want to visit. Oddly, my desert is normal to me, and seeing the green and brooks is fascinating.
I used to get Cheese patty suppers with a glass bottle of the Irn-Bru when i lived in the Shetland Islands. Hmmm making me hungry just thinking about it!
Ruth, you're really good at this and the quality of your videos is pro level. The voiceovers in terms of technical quality and content, the camera work, the editing, the drone filming, the shot choices--everything. Plus you make for a very appealing on-camera presence yourself. If you don't do this for a living then you should. Or would that spoil it and take away all the fun? In any case, another excellent video and looking forward to many more! 😊
@@ruthaisling Well, I've long wanted to visit Scotland, but after watching your videos I really really really want to visit it, sights, people, food--whiskey! A+++!
Wow what a lot you crammed in & just what I would do, if I was your age! Glad to have found you. I never watch TV, just youtube vlogs! I had no idea about them till I stumbled on Steve Marsh, I was probably looking for videos on Shetland. Bucket list!.
We were there in August 2023 - have an great time. So many sites and such friendly people. We even crossed over to the Brough of Birsay which as fun. Probably my favorite place now in Scotland.
Hi Ruth. Many of the female UA-camrs talk about the merits of the countries where they were born and raised. This time, the ancient ruins were talked about very vividly, and I think that there are many similarities between the round tombs and megalithic civilizations in Japan, and although this has not been proven, there was once a connection between them. I want to imagine that.
That is so interesting, next time I am in Japan I will try and visit some of those places. Although it's a different time period, I did think the dinosaur museum in Fukui Prefecture was excellent. Probably the best museum I have visited in Japan.
In Ohio, and much of the Midwestern United States, there are fascinating mound structures built by native peoples between 500 BCE-1500 CE (we call them the Adena, Hopewell, and Ft. Ancient peoples). They are beautiful (Serpent Mound is my favorite) and in the last 75 years we Americans have become serious about preserving them for posterity. Hi Ruth. Greetings from Skara Brae Ranch in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies in SW Alberta. Love your videos ... and particularly this one. My grandfather William Balderstone lived (and fly-fished) not far from Skara Brae near Birsay. I hope to return for a visit next year.

Truly breathtaking sceneries. Impressive landscapes and amazing well-kept ancient ruins. I visited Isle of Arran in Scotland once 12 years ago and that is one of the most beautiful memories of my UK trip. Thank you so much for taking me to another Scotland trip in your video! Greetings from Japan.
Had an aunt and uncle that lived on Hoy visited them in 1987. Was able to tour the remains of the WW2 Naval ruins that still littered the island. WHAT AMAZED ME WAS THE 1000'S AND 1000'S OF BUNNY RABBITS I SAW EVERYWHERE.

It is so good to see so many high quality productions about my home nowadays, Orkney. I was born here and have lived here all my life and you could not pay me to leave, it is a very special place. Just so you know for the ferry animations it would be better to use a picture of the "Earl Sigurd" for the Inter Island ferries and the "Hamnavoe" for the Northlink ferry as the pictures you used were of the Shetland inter island ferry "Linga" and the Aberdeen ferry "Hrossey." 😃
Wow Ruth, what you have packed into this video is amazing. It was lovely to see the places we visited in our van about 8 years ago. We purchased Ring of Brodgar rings in Kirkwall, and the Jeweller made a wee Orkney Axe to wear on my Argyle jacket as well, it was a scaled down Kiltie pin, very unique!! The Neolithics are amazing. Highland Park is great Whisky, we couldn’t do the tour as our ferry left St Margaret’s Hope for Gills Bay before the tour started. We stayed in the Kirkwall Camp Site and motored around to as many sites as we could cram in. You did better than us on the small ferries to the remote islands. I could go on and on, we loved Orkney. Well done on your Orkney adventure, Cheers, Mike 🥃🥃👍
Climbed the 'Old Man' 3 times, and St John's Head ('Testament to the Insane' route) twice. My climbing days are over now, and I'll miss beautiful Rackwick Bay, as that was our base for the climbing. Great video, took back a lot of great memories, thank you Ruth! ❤
Many thanks for your reply Ruth, and you take care on all your further adventures - 'always have two anchor-points into the face at any one time' mind, as us rock-climbers say😂👍!!!

Ah, what a scenic image of Orkney Island by Ruth! The centre of Neolithic ruins in the Orkney Islands is amazing! I would like to go there too. When I visited Edinburgh a while back, I bought some Highland Park Scotch whisky from Orkney Island and tried it. It was very delicious and I liked it. I also bought a jumper that is not made in Orkney, but made in Shetland. I also liked the design of it with the Viking pattern, so I still wear it to this day. Orkney and Shetland are islands with a strong Viking culture.

Well that bought back some nice memories of my visit to Orkney many years ago. I remember finding one chambered tomb at the side of the road - there was a small honesty box with a torch inside which you could borrow and then had to crawl along the entrance tunnel to the main chamber inside. Quite a different experience to super touristy places like Skara Brae.
No problem, I love watching. Do you mind if I ask you how old you are though? because they don't seem to check your id when you go drinking over there. In America, if you get caught drinking, underage, you will get arrested. Just saying you look really young. But, if the question is too personal , you don't have to tell me. I was just curious. @@ruthaisling
I really enjoy watching your videos on Scotland. I only visited Scotland once, long before you were born, and I enjoyed it. I always wanted to get back there and visit the regions you explore, but since I am a little too old to physically do it now, I have to do it vicariously through your videos. BTW, as a Yank, I do not know if I could really handle eating Haggis.
That was spectacular Ruth. I am struck by the amazing scenery there wild & remote. A lot of very useful information in this one. The campsites are well equipped & reasonably priced 😊
As someone who lives on Hoy I thoroughly enjoyed your video and will be sharing it around to give people an excellent introduction to the islands I call home.

Quite a different experience to super touristy places like Skara Brae.
Wow, that sounds brilliant. So many of these smaller sites are so quiet too
"Breath taking" is anunstatement. Scotland is beautiful, as is her youtube guide with the red coat. :)
Thanks for watching Luke!

Haggis is really good if you don’t think about what’s in it! 😂
That was spectacular Ruth.
I am struck by the amazing scenery there wild & remote.
A lot of very useful information in this one.
The campsites are well equipped & reasonably priced
