- Bul Armory is known for their double stack 1911 or 2011 style pistols - in 2024 Bul Armory raised the bar with their new flagship competition gun - the Spitfire. The Bul Armory Spitfire is a USPSA or IPSC open gun - with an integrated hybrid comp barrel that tames spicy competition loads. Because I know you're going to ask - that's a Shooters Global Go timer on my ear pro. Those things are awesome.

Yesterday I was range master at a regional match where one fellow was shooting this gun. He made the stages look absurdly easy!

Bul Armory has really stepped up their game across the board.
Yeah, they flex on Staccato in the duty 2011 market, Staccato and Wilson in the compact carry 2011 market, and every other competition manufactureron top of that.

Now i see the spitfire you were talking about today when i asked about the UR. Holy cow, this is cool. Im still thinking about getting a nicer open gun right now. I've had three BUL open guns. UR-F and Bullesteros both with the older Steel grip and brass magwells and the newer Bullesteros with the polymer grip and tungsten magwell. I much preferred the steel grips and have since switched to Infinity IMM. I hope BUL may consider having a steel grip option in the future.
That's a surprisingly smart placement for the Go timer when using Spy mode. Might have to give that a try next match.

Thanks for the review! I wished that BA would produce and provide different types of slide rackers, even better, use a standard cut i.s.o. their own slide cut, which limits options.
My old Trubor runs Major and Minor reliably, but it's anything but flat with minor loads...not enough gas. This Bul setup looks fantastic. Do want.
TruBors are still kicking around out there to be sure!
My Bul uses a plunger ball screws for the racker, like that listed in the slide parts section at the Bul website. Odd they would change the system.
It is a detent apparently but I loosened it like an idiot

Can you retrace the steps what happened on your major reloading and how you avoid it now?
I think I replied to this but it's not showing it - I was using range pick up brass with coated bullets because I was trying to cheapskate my way out of it. Now I load once fire roll sized brass and leave it on the range and shoot only JHPs and have had zero issues. I you want to use range pick up brass - you probably need a roll sizer - even still I dont' know how much I'd reload open pressure brass.

As you were talking about your UR exploding due to faulty loads, could you get into some details on what went wrong. I have a UR shorty and do my own loads and never had a problem, but every insight on what could go wrong is highly appreciated for me and maybe for everybody who starts loading 9 major. Thanks, Rob
I was loading hytek coated projectiles on range pick up brass that wasn’t roll sized - you need to load jacketed projectiles in open - once fired roll sized brass is nice insurance as well but increases costs a good bit

Outside of just the general offering being a fantastic value, the fluid milling is very unique. Never seen a style like that. Bul must have recently invested in some top end machines to one up their metal work
it's a well made gun - very clean machining very even gaps - gorgeous.
After 5000 Rounds the slide broke at my sas ur. Had to buy a new one. After another 2000 Rounds the frame broke. Good looking gun made of weak steel

it changes everything but it unlocks new power levels. you don't have to be super serious and it's a pretty motivating moment to see yourself through the eyes of a child and want to be worthy of how they see you. 10/10 would recommend. A lot of stuff will fall away because it needs to, but you won't miss it.

Have you held an UR-F from Bul Armory yet? The fit and feel on the UR-F is a bit tighter than the UR, and I feel like the Spitfire is probably more comparable with that than the regular UR series pistols.
Like for the like god, comments for the comment throne! Not gonna lie, the *ULTIMATE RACER* has a way cooler name even if the Spitfire does sound like a phenomenal piece of equipment.

I would very much like to see you do a comparison of the Spitfire to the Bullesteros. I run the Bullesteros and find it with it's massive slide has a lot of "dipping" at the end of the recoil cycle. A vid comparing the two would help me, and likely other Bullesteros owners.

I have the Bullesteros, and I kind of feel the same. However, it might just be my technique... I am now using a 7# variable recoil spring from EEmanntech. That minimizes the issue, but it is still a bit apparent.
Have you tried the new Bul extractor? Hinged with two springs like the Aftec.

Recoil springs - depends how light you go. Super light ones maybe 3-5k rounds. Hammer springs don’t really go - clean the extractor channel and extractor once a year or so

How are you liking the SG Go timer?
so they sent me their new version of their big timer and it's replaced the Go as my go to (hah). The Go is really useful - especially if you use a watch and the drills app - but their new SG Timer 2 is pretty mega - it's louder - better mount/clip option and can do spy mode same as the Go. Previously - I'd have given the nod to the Go over the SG Timer - but the SG Timer 2 is even better than the go. The go is still pretty slick if you don't mind using the phone to mine data and edit parameters and from a form factor perspective I still like it.
Can you put other uppers on it?

it's pretty competitive with the market. The only other open gun in the price point is the DS9 Open - it behaves differently in recoil because the porting and comping is different but I can't seem to get much different results from it.

That guy is as safe as he can be - you don’t understand the 180 rule and the camera angles are throwing you off - if I had started to be unsafe with gun direction he would have stopped me - which is why he is standing there
