More ports than a cruise ship - and more fun - Bul Armory Tac Pro 5" 1000 round review

- Bul Armory has always made exceptional 2011 style guns - the Tac Pro series is their serious use trim gun with v8 ports installed in the factory making it silly soft shooting yet utterly reliable with most ammo. In this video we do a 1000 round review of the updated Tac Pro 5" - new for 2024.
Thanks to Bul Armory for providing the gun for video. Igman ammo was provided by Global Ordnance.

A local shop didn't know what they had, and sold one of their 45ACP Government 1911's used for $299.
the problem with BUL, is ive never seen one in the wild, or in a gun store, only on yt. id bet many others have the same experience with BUL.
No doubt. I've been eyeing a Bul for over a year. USA website always sold out. Local gun stores don't carry them. I may breakdown this coming week and venture to a large gun show that's coming near me.
They are solely distributed through their website
A few dealers in Vegas have them.
Agreed.
Iv seen one one in the wild and maybe 3 or 4 in pawnshop/store out here in AZ.
I can't think of a sub 4K gun I want more than this very one. Thanks for the review.
I have the 2023 version of this gun but sent to Nighthawk Customs to get it DLC polished black on all parts, barrel crowned and flush with slide, flat trigger, and toolless guide. These are the best bang for your buck pistols on the market by a large margin.
Or you could just buy a Nighthawk, which we did several times and didn’t look back.
dad joke time: I just adopted a dog from my local blacksmith, as soon as we got home he made a bolt for the door
Love all your reviews and shooting technique breakdowns
Awesome review, bro. I have the bul SAS ll Tac 4.25. and I'm actually in love with it. It's in my EDC rotation. If I could, I'd marry it. And my Staccato P would be my side chick. Because they fit the same holsters. 😂
Excellent review, intelligent and fluent. It’s obvious you put much thought into every word and each edit. Thank you.
you had me at 4 mags
Awesome video as always! Love seeing how it operates in a competitive capacity
Good insight, thank you for your time!
Drinking my coffee with my wife (the unofficial realtor of M160) this morning and watching your review. She's on her laptop and I'm thinking she's not paying attention until she's literally laughing out loud at all of your jokes and smartassy comments. She says, "is that the guy from the range?...he's so snarky and funny". Haha. I guess you have another new fan. Awesome review! The quality of you firearm content is pretty much unmatched these days. Nice work.
High praise!
Great review! Love the humor added in to these, sir. I'd love to get my hands on one of these but they are like vaporware.
Thanks! BUL is really making great products these days.
I have two requests: Please review the Alpha Foxtrot 1911-S15 and the Tisas 1911 Double Stack (either Duty or Night Stalker).
Thanks for the great reviews! Your channel is amazing! I barely miss a video!
Walked into the kitchen, Dad can you make me a sandwich. Dad said, ABRACADABRA your a sandwich ….lol
I listened front to back... and consider yours a terrific review of Bul Armory's new gun. Thanks! (Maybe not so much for the blind deer, 'though 😂)!
Nice review!
I finally got my hands on a 4.24 tac pro. A week later I was looking for another. The pistols have a great feel and fit to them. I shot it better than my stacatto p I’ve been impressed as so far thank you sir for giving me another option to enjoy
Back in the day when I first started shooting ipsc 45acp ruled the day comps weren’t even thought of yet but 500rnds was when you cleaned your gun and scrubbed all the lead fowling out of the barrel. Even shooting hard cast bullets leading was a problem. I was the first one in the club to have a comp gun man it was great even tried 165gr swc with a Hefty charge of 231!! HA! Anyway thanks for all the info you manage to cover everything its great! Thanks
Man, i bought the bul armory axe based on your videos, and the difference between that and every other gun ive shot is night and day
I feel like the game is over, any other gun outside the 2011s are going to disappoint
Thanks David for another fun video. Your dad jokes always make me laugh. I love your sarcasm. I do not compete as I am an old guy, but I am intrigued by the BUL armory guns. Maybe someday.
they're amazing guns!
I left my email at Bul’s website to get notified about the SAS II 425 Pro. Took 4 months to get the “it’s available “. The email came at 11 AM, when I saw it at 3 PM, they were sold out! Left my email again, waited 5 months and the email showed up at 10:30 AM. I excused myself from a client, went to the bathroom so I wouldn’t be disturbed and bought the gun. 9 months… not 2 weeks like your video suggests
Got mine today and put 70 rounds through it. Managed to put 4 bullets in same hole. Never done that before not even with my Staccato XC. Very soft shooting as well.
Been looking at this and the AIR alot lately and cant decide which to go with.. i Just got a shadow 2 recently and I love it but I still want a Bul in my collection. Great content as always!
Great review. Would love to see a head to head with the XC and cosaint with the ports.
Absolutely love your videos, but everytime i see you shoot in shorts I think of cousin Eddie in National Lampoon....
Great video and gun , just broken down and got a CZ Shadow compact and a Trijicon RMRHD . And like a true kid sending it out to get it ported . Yep nuts … anyways love Bull just not sure what one to get . Porting is well worth it IMO just make more maintenance around. Thanks again
10:30 I was waiting on data for the 147grains however I’m glad to hear it works with 95grain.
8:54 David is 100% right on his opinion, it’s definitely the things I’d do to my pistols is change up , aside from a full rail ported barrel, flush cut , they went further and introduced interchangeable trigger profile. I’ve only seen that in my old generation svi
I want to get one eventually.
I’ve got the 2023 version of the 5” Pro. I have to say, the trigger is better than my Staccato XC. Great pistol.
Thanks!
So good I watched it twice
Could you get your hands on the new Blaze and Radical pistols? These things will probably be the new USPSA dream guns.
Thank you.
I've got a Staccato and a Shadow 2, why do I need one of these? I need a good reason when I pitch it to my wife. I gotta say this one impresses the hell out of me.
got the EDC PRO few weeks ago, added an x300 for extra weight in front, and its a perfect shoot, great review boss
The 2024 EDC Pro has not yet been released. Maybe you bought last years model?
@@toddtzm im from israel, its been released, the only 2024 model that not released yet is the UL 2024
@@Bad_iv89 Well, that makes sense then. Was considering the EDC Pro but now having second thoughts due to the ports and what the effect may be on my eyes if encountering a CQE. In general, how do you like it and did you have any Buls in the past to compare?
@@toddtzm i had the last year tac before, its basicaly the same gun as the 2024 edc, but the ports do the job with recoil on edc pro, and its even better when you add extra weight with heavier spring or light, and the new models looks way sexier thats why i swiched😁
Epic shreds that Pro looks glorious! I'll be trying to get one for sure especially since it compares well with the XC. Looking forward to that sweet sweet Spitfire review especially more wig, tank top, and short short action. Be well hope all the bot and whining in the comments don't bother you too much.
Fire-breather, right there
Great review. You mentioned how dirty it can get, does it (and ports in general) expose you to more lead dust also?
I'm ready to upgrade to the new model!
Also state 2 at TX state, starting weakhand... oh look, my magazine dropped after the first shot. 😂😂😂
I have a non pro ported my barrel with an aftermarket company, yes its still flawless, but saying its loud is an understatement, its deafening.
Who did you go through for porting? Just ordered my non ported because it was in stock. Haha. Thanks!

Review of the new ultralight and or ultralight pro? Pleaseee
I can't decide on rather to get the Blaze or Tac pro.
Porting vents the full pressure in the barrel far up, each successive set reducing until the final pressure left vents to infinity/atmosphere. If the inside of the barrel ports could be conical milled (doable on Bull Barrels but expensive) to accelerate the gases, like a rocket nozzle, you could get more force with less gas and pressure loss, e.g. using smaller port diameters and slightly faster bullet velocities, but it would be even louder and more dangerous as the port gas velocity increases.
The comps on the end of the barrel, slide, or frame work well because they are on the end giving more torque and the pressure releasing to atmosphere/infinity delta is about the same as the barrel length of a non-compensated gun, thus the noise level should be about the same though the blast is more upwards and noticeable.
Integrated comps allow a more practical length of barrel to develop a fuller bullet velocity, are cleaner, and less offending to users and bystanders. Hopefully, Bul Armory goes this route in it's next generation.
Ordered my 4.25 pro tac today.
Nice. Just ordered my 4.25 tac the other day (not the pro). I have never spent that much money on a gun but after shooting the staccato I had to have a high quality 2011. The tac seemed like the right choice for the money.
Btw hope it doesn’t take forever to get
@@toddferrell2322 should be here Friday.
These guns are very nice and have a reasonable price tag on them but they are hard to find. I even got in contact with bul armory to see if I could get my hands on the SAS ultra light. They didn't have a clue when they were going to have them in stock. Even if I ordered from a outside vendor its the same thing they don't know. I got my hands on a Bul Armory Tomahawk but it took me months to track one down.
Hoping Stealth Arms will port their bull barrel to fit the Trident slide on the Platy in the near future.
I want one for work, so my co-workers can join me in the joys of tinnitus we we qualify 😂
Great venison humor!
You should make a vid on your USPSA class progression, present state, and future goals. I'd watch and like immediately.
Been at this game a while - footage from the early days is thin
@@TheHumbleMarksman Footage? Shoot I was thinking just story/journey time with your face, camera, and some BDE! Always interested in knowing how people started, at what class, struggles, observations through the climb, how the sport has changed to them, etc. etc. Any footage would be bonus. Just started competing and your channel has been my go-to, thanks and keep it coming
I bought last year's model from Ranier arms. They go in and out of stock there every couple of months.
Velocity? None.
Gamer? Absolutely!
Hotel? Trivago
Don’t get me wrong I love ported guns but I have a huge pet peeve with ports halfway down the barrel. IMO ports shouldn’t ever leave the last 1/4 of it and should be as close to the muzzle as possible
It loses like 50-100fps, not a make or break amount out of 5" and non-defensive use
@@jthrelf still too much for my taste
@@MyLonewolf25 Question. What does the velocity do for you in particular, and why do you want more of it?
great video you have to know i'm sure you hurt some people bank accounts lol . with shooting both the 4in and 5in which you think is better? another question with your coated bullets where did you find some good place for info for load data as in books or websites
Hey man, please, when you can and if you're allowed, do a review on this exact model vs XC. Thank you.
If Bul would set ip a US factory..
I got sooo lucky I starting looking for the TAC pro 5, I put email notifications on but the next morning I got up I just happen to check the website and it was in stock. I didn't get the email until 3 HOURS Later (after it was sold out) So guys if your trying to score one don't bother with the email, just spam the hell out of the website. Good luck
Now you have that Nelly song in my head at work lol. Nice video. what part of TX do you shoot
NTX- around DFW home range is mission 160
Twenty four fifty doll hairs. Nice. Compared to those that run three thousand and up doll hairs makes it affordable IMHO.
booger hook - a new vocabulary added
Yes - it’s part of the beater
14:50 ruthless
With all the 2011 content lately, im surprised you haven't done a video on the Ria Tac ultra yet. It's been the budget go to double stack prior to the prodigy kicking down the door.
When they make an optic ready one I will.
David, fantastic review. Been watching this video, and your Staccato/Bul/Prodigy comparison on repeat, trying to decide which will be my first 2011. Looking to use it in my club IDPA matches, as my Shadow 2 single action doesn't make weight. I am thinking of looking for an inexpensive used Prodigy and adding some EGW parts, as the added weight of the Prodigy sounds like it would be a softer shooter. Thoughts?
The Bul with the ports is softer - but for non comped it’s about as soft as anything without a steel grip
@@TheHumbleMarksman thank you sir!!
Look at you rocking those dad delts!! :-) I used to run magna-ported revos. You are correct, LOUD is the functional word here. Even Open guys will bitch.
@TheHumbleMarksman “Or longer booger hooks” LMFAO haven’t heard that one buddy that’s funny Sh!t…!
The reason I am reluctant to purchase a Bull is their warranty…..only a year.
I am going to buy a Bul, most likely an EDC pro as I don’t compete. Not a huge fan of the TAC full rail look. Some people love it… not me.
Do you have a video on the non port Tac 5? I would like to see the difference in the recoil and slide tracking.
My wife got a little sun burned yesterday and she put aloe on her shoulders. I knew she had put aloe on but I didn't know how much. So when I went to hug her.......we both were covered in aloe 😅😅😅
I empathize with this comment
A concern with Bul is that they only have a one year warranty. Something could go wrong after one year. With my CZ shadow 2, I was getting malfunctions after 2 years and sent it for warranty repair.
*4:15** Here's a more technical look at screws holding things.*
*Screws, fasteners, etc... their main purpose it to provide FRICTION to a mating surface.*
Fasteners, are not load bearing, ie 'shear bearing devices', unless what they are holding is designed improperly.
Improperly in this case is, the diameter of the screw and the pitch of the screw are not sufficient to provide enough torque to hold the plate "frictionally" to the gun.
11:30 that’s cause they have a bad a habit of not cleaning their things , minimally whipping the frame and slide isn’t a chore at all .
I really wanna try out Bul Armory 4.25" . I do favor the 4.X" 2011s .
Unfortunately no one can get them in tinely manor .
Ill probably end up getting used Staccato P DPO in the next year or two . I like running what i have for 2 full years before switching to something else . I ran G34 for a lot of years , then ran X5 LEGION for 2 years amd ive now been running CZ S2 SAO for 7 months . I shoot the X5 way better than i shot the G34 , and i shoot S2 SAO way better than ever shot the X5 .
I have shot quite a few 2011s but ive never got run one for couple 2Gun matches .
21:06 I would enjoy a model with 4.25” length for the sake of it being 4.25” .
the new models are coming out this summer. i check their site every day.. but I wanted to pro version, non ported, with no port/ lightening cuts in the slide.. so I could send it for integral comp.. not an option.
Excellent review. Here is why I won’t be buying this for EDC. First off, at CQE those ports are mostly like to take your eye out. I have asked other Bul reviewers to do the banana test with it and they said they will but not yet. I practice only in indoor ranges, sometimes 3 or 4 nightly COF’s a week. Prefer to keep my hearing as well as others in the class. Don’t want to clean the gun so often when shooting half a case per week. I don’t like their one year warranty and some horror stories how long it takes when sent back for repair. Way too heavy for EDC. Perhaps their non ported would make more sense. At this point I am quite happy with my XR920P so will keep training with that and work in a CR920XP for those hot summer days.
I always muff and plug indoors.😂
Need a video comparing this gu to Alien
I did not know you're in Texas also. 108 isn't too bad compared to last summer when it was 112-113
it's not the hart part yet and you know that.
@TheHumbleMarksman True, i'm not looking forward to those 110° days.
So you can almost buy 2 of these for a Staccato or 3 for an Atlas.
I'd be curious to see how your tanfoglio compares to this, once you send it to patriot defense for their new el compo port for the tanfoglio. I believe its a $300 service.
Not tryin' to be a hater.... but dem "shorts" though...🫢😂😂🤣🤣 Don't do dat no mo' 🤷🏽♂🤦🏽♂😣 Great Video... I'm sold.. 👍🏽🎯Will get one as soon as I get the chance.

Just got my first 2011. Staccato xl limited edition. The optic locks in solid. Is that something new for limited edition? Just asking because you said the Staccato optic mount sucks. I have put many thousands of rounds through several of caniks, and have never had an optic come loose.
It’s not does it attach well - it elevates it quite a bit and is overwrought
Did you have any problems with barrel leading?
Huh, didn't know IDPA is allowing ported barrels now. Anyway, is the Bul rated for 9mm Major? I don't remember hearing if you said that or not. Thanks!
Being they're the same price would you go with the 5" tac pro over the 4.25" tac pro?
I would love to see a light on the 4.25 pro vs 5” pro with no light. I’d rather have the 4.25, but don’t want to give up to much speed to a 5” in IDPA
My big concern (hoping someone answers this) is that I’m wondering if barrel porting allows a light flair out of the top of the barrel that can affect vision when shooting in low/no light.
Hi! Do you use the same screws that come with the holosun 507 comp to mount it?
I can’t remember - I think so - I don’t think the Bul comes with special screws to use
Im really debating getting this in the 4.25 since my prodigy is already a 5 inch. But the short barrel does look kinda odd on it vs the full length.
they're both legit.
Well, they finally dropped today and I bit the bullet and got in on time to order the 5" tac pro before it sold out. Will be curious how long it will take to get to my gun store from Miami. Should fit the Safariland ALS hilster I ordered for my 5" prodigy i'd imagine
David - great review of the Bul Armory Tac Pro5! Just subscribed to your channel, keep up the great work sir!!
I recently rented a Sig Sauer Legion P226 X5 as well as a Staccato XC, which i have rented several times to shoot (one of the most enjoyable guns on the market to shoot in my opinion) - as I was shooting both guns one after another, I just kept thinking how is the X5 Legion shooting almost as nice as the Staccato XC! The X5 blew me away. Would love your take on how the X5 stacks up to the XC as well as the Bul Armory Tac Pro 5 (unfortunately cannot rent the Bul to shoot). Will be purchasing at least one of these guns - after shooting the X5, made me think why would I pay double for the Staccato for maybe a little better gun?? Appreciate your thoughts........
FYI - I have owned the original Sig P226 Legion for several years now, so I am familiar with the platform. The X5 in my in my opinion was a superior shooting gun from a recoil & less barrel flip perspective to the P226 Legion. I also own a couple of Wilson Combat's so i understand what a decent gun should shoot like. I am amazed how well these gun manufacturers have improved these guns in the last several years, unbelievable!
In a couple weeks I’ll be out shooting the P226 X5 Legion vs the P226 X5 Sport vs the P226 legion. The video will be a couple weeks after that but much sooner for patrons. I’m a big fan of the 226 - I think I still favor the 2011 platform - but I may have a 2011 ride shotgun to see how it turns out.
@@TheHumbleMarksman David - thanks so much for the super quick response!! I value an opinion of someone like yourself who definitely puts a lot more rounds of ammo through a variety of guns than I ever will. Your videos on the Bul Armory guns are great as I would have never known about them on my own - the Bul guns are getting a lot of favorable reviews for sure, it is a shame that one cannot demo one before they buy! I hope one day they may switch from a port barrel to maybe having compensators so they won't be as loud....would love to own one.
Per your response, I know you love the 2011 platform and for good reason, I was just wondering if like the Bul Armory guns you reviewed, YOU feel like the Sig X5 Legion compares on some level as the Bul to the Stacatto XC as it pertains to recoil reduction, slide action, trigger quality, less barrel flip & return to target type action. I was not expecting the X5 to shoot that well to the Stacatto XC (which I love!!).......I would love to own all 3 guns for sure!!
When you were listing off your loads, were those velocities with this gun?
If so, I'm surprised how little velocity you seemed to lose from 8 ports.
Velocity loss from ports is usually overblown fudd lore. It's usually 50-100 fps. The actual surface area of all the ports relative to the entire inner diameter surface area of the barrel is not a huge portion.
@@jthrelf > It's usually 50-100 fps.
That depends a lot on the cartridge used and the location of the ports.
I have two custom shadow 2s thinking about selling them to get my hands on one of these what do you think 🤔
Hi, relating to some past videos you said polymer grip is the way to go for 2011, because of low recoil of 9mm.
But you also seem to like an AXG grip on a P320 for the better balance it offers - which i fully agree with being the owner of one.
So, plastic or metal/aluminium, on a do-it-all full size pistol?
depends how it carries it's weight and where. On the P320 I favor aluminum. On the 2011 I prefer polymer or steel.
Is the lower, one solid piece of aluminum or steal like the stealth arms platypus?
Can you air rack it lol?
No 2 part - steel frame and a polymer grip
Hey David, great video! Looking to buy my first 2011, I’m really thinking about the non ported 5” TAC. Would be for range practice and possible USPSA Limited Optics. Do you know where to get 140mm Bul mags or does anyone make mag extensions?
140mm mags are sold by MBX - that's what I compete with in my Bul Armory open gun.
@@TheHumbleMarksman thanks brother🤙🏻
Do you have any ported pistol with very high round counts? If so is there gas erosion?
Any issue with cast and cast & coated bullets?
The smaller the holes, the higher the frequency.
No I don’t but I also favor jacketed rounds - the cost savings on the whole isn’t worth it these days for all the problems they create
since its ported it means the force pushing the bullet is lessened or is my idea of physics wrong. can you make a ballistics gel test of the 5 inch ported vs a 4 inch unported see which will penetrate deeper. i think a lot of people would be curious as well.
not really my gig
Have you checked the pull weight? Is the reset adjustable like the completion series. I've been shooting saws for years and I wanted a Limited Optics gun that has a pict rail.
pull weight is sub 3 and it has an over travel stop just like the competition series - they use the same shoe.
19:47 no I feel that,it like with rifle reloads too. It almost want to make out on a glove 🧤 but then once the pain flows away, I think to myself”nah don’t be a bitch, continue.”
Any plans on reviewing the edc model whenever it releases?
hopefully
