I didn’t have to shove you the most expensive shit if you actually needed 9 quid adapter from us. We aren’t commission based so that’s one of the good perks of not pushing sales on you but actually genuinely getting the right thing for your needs 🫶

At least he was being honest. I love my AirPod pro’s that go in my ear but have been wanting the Max but I can’t get over that price tag. For $550, they should be swear and water resistant. I’m not paying $550 to basically wear them while just sitting down relaxing or on a trip.

As an ex-employee from Apple I can 100% confirm this lol, we don’t make commission and the main goal isn’t to sell you the most expensive device, but the one that will fit your needs. Even tho I hate selling in general, I’d always ask what the person do, for fun, for work and etc to figure which device might fit your need.
Honestly same at Best Buy. No commission. So many people make returns and margins on big ticket electronics for the retail store is already thin. So the goal becomes to sell them something they won’t return, and attach accessories. But yeah glad I don’t work in “sales” anymore lol.

This is really not uncommon at Apple stores at all. When I was much younger my parents were buying an iMac for the house, and they talked them down to the base model. Then, when I was going to college, they talked me down to the base model MacBook Pro!! They do the opposite of upsell you, it’s in their interest in the long-run NOT to feel like salesmen and not to sell you something you really don’t need.
I think it’s because they know in the future you will upgrade, selling 2 products instead of 1 is better than selling the highest model. They want you to buy the AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max

I couldn’t do retail at Apple, I grew up poor and watching people (of a similar socioeconomic background) make bad financial decisions killed me.
Even if you do have the money, it’s wise to know what you’re buying and evaluate other options.
I switched to working IT at my university, now I just help people download zoom and occasionally repair laptops.

If someone wants something let them enjoy the experience of buying it. I had an experience similar to this when i bought my ipad mini. The associate was rude and telling me i needed a bigger device. I politely informed them i already had an ipad pro 12.9” pro with 1T of storage, an ipad pro 11 inch with 1T of storage, my watch, my phone, my husbands phone and my air pods 1st, 2nd gen and my air pdos pro. They didnt have a response. And no, none of these are on payment plans or have apple care. Ive never needed apple care.
A car dealer did this to me and it pissed the fuck out of me. I could’ve bought the car outright but he was assuming I couldn’t because I looked young and treated me like shit.

FYI- the ‘geniuses’ aren’t the ones doing sales- they’re usually the guys doing repairs in the repair room in the backstages are. Technical specialists are the ones doing diagnostics on your devices if you booked appointment for your faulty whatever. And then Product Specialist or just Apple Specialist is the person doing the retail side of Apple Store. Hope that helps 👌
