I’ve never understood this. Like, you’re basically getting pissed about a free commercial. I haven’t thought about Rango in years, but saw the Rattlesnake Jake video and remembered, “Oh yeah, that was a clever movie! I should watch that again!” Talk about wanting to have your cake and eat it too. If these companies were smart, they’d be paying people to do video essays on their shows and movies. You look at how stuff like the gentleminions memes have affected actual ticket sales, how have they not figured out it’s a good idea to get people on the internet talking about your shows and movies?
It's probably not the corporation that's claiming it, though. These claims are mostly fraudulent. Like, they would be fraudulent even if it was the company, but this could be something else.
This nonsense is getting out of control. There are so many pieces of media that I would never have got into if it weren't for channels like this. Companies are so short-sighted. This kind of thing can make them money, it's not like piracy where it might detract from sales.

Legality is just a financial threshold. Get enough money, law becomes suggestion. It's not about "How is this legal" it's "How do you fight something when you have rules and they don't"

The thing that propetuatues this is that when it gets claimed, the ad revenue is funneled to them. So shitty companies usually use automation to claim everything they can to just hoover up the ad revenue. Its scummy and shitty, but that's how UA-cam has set up the system. Just so you know, there are companies that get paid by studios to claim stuff in their name. Meaning that it is not a movie creator from paramount who blocked your video, but a "mercenary" of some sort, who gets paid if he claims a lot of stuff. Yes : this shit should not exist, but i hope this knowledge can make this double claim less painful
If you set up an Odysee account, you can have them automatically mirror your UA-cam content to your Odysee channel. It makes for a great no-hassle backup for when something dumb happens on UA-cam. I've gone so far as to start posting my content there a week ahead of time, just to try to get more people trying out the alternatives. It's pretty easy to set up, and I recommend it! I watched that video just Sunday. I've never seen that movie, and UA-cam recommended it to me quite randomly, but its title sounded interesting. So I had a cup of tea and watched it, and it gave me a good idea how to make my novel manuscript better. And I thank you for that, good sir.
This absolutely is a behind the scenes issue that your audience needs to be aware of. Yes, ours is an asymmetrical, parasocial relationship and we don't owe each other anything. But I don't think that should inhibit you from asking, particularly when it concerns this particular widely-known, widespread problem that content creators have surrounding illegitimate copyright claims. Silence on this issue only benefits the bad actors.

I watched your video when it came out and loved it so much I tried to send it to a friend a few weeks later and it was gone. I was thoroughly heartbroken because I loved it and I wanted to share it, and some dumb corporation decided to take it down. Watching that video made me want to see Rango again, and now maybe I'll just sail the high seas and get it without giving the Big Guys any money

The YT copyright system is absolutely cancer. I'm trying to start up a new channel with media under fair use, but the copyright system will not let me do anything. I enjoy channels like yours because I love breakdowns and deconstructing media that utilizes examples to illustrate a point but never would've I thought that just doing so is an uphill battle.

yeah it's so weird companies are essentially blocking free advertisement & exposure. The main reason I got into The Wire was through youtube clips/vids that intrigued me enough to go out and buy the box set because I could tell the quality of the show through those tiny samples. The only thing I think of a company being worried about is if the content creator is hammering their show which may inspire ppl not to watch it. But if it's something that's been out for awhile then a youtuber highlighting it would only bring more exposure and a potential audience to the company's show whether it's a good or bad review UA-cam communities/vids are some of the best organic/grassroots advertisements for popular and unknown properties

Rango is a movie that would have skated under my radar were it not for your analysis and praise. You are a thoughtful and insightful voice whose opinions (and channel) I subscribe to, and your character analysis piqued my interest in the source material. I hate when 'analysis' or 'review' is just plot synopsis and I think you do a wonderful job to highlight the themes and nuances without spoilers. If anything you draw MORE viewers to their material (speaking for myself here), and help your viewers dive deeper into the artists' intentions. It's ridiculous that somebody could claim your work as their content simply because you used clips under fair use guidelines...I wish there was some way the little guy could push back or appeal without having to take a corporate entity to court. For what it's worth, I'm sorry you have to deal with that, it's not right.

It's possible UA-cam checks every video uploaded to make sure it's not one they've blocked and it took an hour to determine that. Some editing could modify it enough for their algorithm to not recognize it as been previously blocked.
I love such videos. You said you dont wanna show us this side of youtube/your work. But in my opinion this is very interesting. I think i speak for alot of people when I say that we dont only watch these videos for the content, but also because of your personality. Listening to you explaining stuff and hear your enthusiasm and fun you have while doing this resonates with us. But we know that the world isnt all sunshine and rainbows. So when you have trouble or a hard time youtube is also a way for you to vent off or just talk about other stuff than the main theme of the channel. It just makes you human and not just another content creator who is only in for the fame. I dont know if that makes alot of sense what I write here (english is not my mothers tounge so I cant get explain myself as well as i would) but what I mean is. You are a great person and if you struggle with something dont feel worried about using your videos as a little therapy tool too :)

Not really sure what that looks like, it certainly doesn't seem like taking companies to court on a single video basis is reasonable unless there are significant punitive awards for them being in the wrong.

The point about the legal system is distressing and disappointing. It seems that the only way to get UA-cam to acknowledge the actual fair use of material would be to collectively sue them in an enormous class action suit, with the intent of causing a significant financial punishment for mistreatment of creators thereby giving a balance to the financial weight companies throw around. It's sad but it is clear these companies won't abide by the law and UA-cam is unwilling to stand up for its creators against monolithic entities, leaving it to the individuals to secure their own rights, even though they are already enumerated in laws. I would gladly donate to someone like Legal Eagle to take up such a project and actually go on offense against these deplorable practices.

Hey, I've been a long time viewer of your channel and I love your videos a lot. I'm by no means a legal expert myself, but I have studied some copyright law as part of journalism and media courses, and I have enough of a background knowledge on IP to know what they are doing is absolutely illegal. Your content falls under the fair use doctrine, so much so that it is absolutely insane to me that they would even try to claim copyright infringement. I think whoever is doing this is just banking on you being a """"small"""" channel without the means to pursue this legally. While I don't have experience doing this myself, I know a lot of other content creators have found luck with nonprofits or even templates citing the appropriate legal language to send to youtube challenging these claims. I hope you and others can continue to create, and I know you probably also already know that legal action is an option already. I guess I'm just trying to say that I would support that wholeheartedly, even if it meant you had to stop creating for a while. If there's anything we can do to help (mass emailing youtube? lol idk) just let us know.

If you set up an Odysee account, you can have them automatically mirror your UA-cam content to your Odysee channel. It makes for a great no-hassle backup for when something dumb happens on UA-cam. I've gone so far as to start posting my content there a week ahead of time, just to try to get more people trying out the alternatives. It's pretty easy to set up, and I recommend it!

This absolutely is a behind the scenes issue that your audience needs to be aware of. Yes, ours is an asymmetrical, parasocial relationship and we don't owe each other anything. But I don't think that should inhibit you from asking, particularly when it concerns this particular widely-known, widespread problem that content creators have surrounding illegitimate copyright claims. Silence on this issue only benefits the bad actors.

I was thoroughly heartbroken because I loved it and I wanted to share it, and some dumb corporation decided to take it down. I enjoy channels like yours because I love breakdowns and deconstructing media that utilizes examples to illustrate a point but never would've I thought that just doing so is an uphill battle.

yeah it's so weird companies are essentially blocking free advertisement & exposure. The main reason I got into The Wire was through youtube clips/vids that intrigued me enough to go out and buy the box set because I could tell the quality of the show through those tiny samples.
The only thing I think of a company being worried about is if the content creator is hammering their show which may inspire ppl not to watch it. But if it's something that's been out for awhile then a youtuber highlighting it would only bring more exposure and a potential audience to the company's show whether it's a good or bad review

Rango is a movie that would have skated under my radar were it not for your analysis and praise. You are a thoughtful and insightful voice whose opinions (and channel) I subscribe to, and your character analysis piqued my interest in the source material. I hate when 'analysis' or 'review' is just plot synopsis and I think you do a wonderful job to highlight the themes and nuances without spoilers. If anything you draw MORE viewers to their material (speaking for myself here), and help your viewers dive deeper into the artists' intentions. It's ridiculous that somebody could claim your work as their content simply because you used clips under fair use guidelines...I wish there was some way the little guy could push back or appeal without having to take a corporate entity to court. For what it's worth, I'm sorry you have to deal with that, it's not right.

I loved your Rattlesnake Jake video. Paramount blocking it twice is just petty.
It's possible UA-cam checks every video uploaded to make sure it's not one they've blocked and it took an hour to determine that. Some editing could modify it enough for their algorithm to not recognize it as been previously blocked.
I love such videos. You said you dont wanna show us this side of youtube/your work. But in my opinion this is very interesting. I think i speak for alot of people when I say that we dont only watch these videos for the content, but also because of your personality. Listening to you explaining stuff and hear your enthusiasm and fun you have while doing this resonates with us. But we know that the world isnt all sunshine and rainbows. So when you have trouble or a hard time youtube is also a way for you to vent off or just talk about other stuff than the main theme of the channel. It just makes you human and not just another content creator who is only in for the fame. I dont know if that makes alot of sense what I write here (english is not my mothers tounge so I cant get explain myself as well as i would) but what I mean is. You are a great person and if you struggle with something dont feel worried about using your videos as a little therapy tool too :)

Not really sure what that looks like, it certainly doesn't seem like taking companies to court on a single video basis is reasonable unless there are significant punitive awards for them being in the wrong.

The point about the legal system is distressing and disappointing. It seems that the only way to get UA-cam to acknowledge the actual fair use of material would be to collectively sue them in an enormous class action suit, with the intent of causing a significant financial punishment for mistreatment of creators thereby giving a balance to the financial weight companies throw around. It's sad but it is clear these companies won't abide by the law and UA-cam is unwilling to stand up for its creators against monolithic entities, leaving it to the individuals to secure their own rights, even though they are already enumerated in laws. I would gladly donate to someone like Legal Eagle to take up such a project and actually go on offense against these deplorable practices.

I don't understand the reasoning behind a big company freaking out over your content. Your video was literally one of the reasons I ended up ever seeing Rango. When it first came out I was a kid. I didn't appreciate the weird character design and decided it was dumb and so never watched it beyond the first ten minutes. But now I LOVE this movie, and your video essay was one of the main reasons why. I never would have watched it without your video. I don't see how claiming it does them any good.

Hey, I've been a long time viewer of your channel and I love your videos a lot. I'm by no means a legal expert myself, but I have studied some copyright law as part of journalism and media courses, and I have enough of a background knowledge on IP to know what they are doing is absolutely illegal. Your content falls under the fair use doctrine, so much so that it is absolutely insane to me that they would even try to claim copyright infringement. I think whoever is doing this is just banking on you being a """"small"""" channel without the means to pursue this legally. While I don't have experience doing this myself, I know a lot of other content creators have found luck with nonprofits or even templates citing the appropriate legal language to send to youtube challenging these claims. I hope you and others can continue to create, and I know you probably also already know that legal action is an option already. I guess I'm just trying to say that I would support that wholeheartedly, even if it meant you had to stop creating for a while. If there's anything we can do to help (mass emailing youtube? lol idk) just let us know.
