Lindai is part of the Umbacano questline. It's a pretty cool series of quests where you work as a treasure hunter for a collector and earn good amounts of money (another good source like the Arena for the early game if you ever need some more for a future challenge). You can find the guy in the Talos Plaza District, but you need to bring an Aeylid statue to start the quest. A small ruin called Culotte down the river that goes from the Imperial City to Bravil has one (it's a short walk to the south of the big bridge with the highwayman). Definitely check it out when you can.
Given how things scale with you, I wonder what happens if you start the game at like level 20 or 30. I figure the beginning will be a lot tougher, and it'll be interesting to see how the NPCs get by!
MDB, I really appreciate you putting these challenges up. Oblivion was the game I used late at night as a teenager to help me calm down before bed. I put multiple hundreds of hours into this game. I meticulously mapped the entire game and 100% completed it multiple times. Riding around on our horse and just... seeing what's around, exploring dungeons, etc... was my favorite. Thanks for the huge hit of nostalgia every time you do one of these!
20:55 "I keep going for side power attacks to hopefully disarm Mankar of his staff, but we ended up disarming him of his life instead." This is why I watch these challenges week after week.
You can actually get a free set of Blades Armor in Cloud Ruler temple on the training room. If you need a better set of armor its great to grab early on.
The guy who tried to drain your destruction magic reminds me of Gen 1 pokemon trainer AI where they try to hit you with an attack that does no damage because it's technically a supereffective type
I petition that you try Sanguine’s quest next time. It has a level requirement of 8, but that shouldn’t be too hard. If you’d be willing to level a bit more Malacath’s and Mephalia’s quests are also interesting
"X Daedric Item Only" could be a neat challenge run idea, I think most of them have battle uses anyway, and the level requirement could make enemy fights more interesting/strategic
Yeah, I got confused about that for a second too. Was sitting here thinking "What does this have to do with Vile? This seems more like Sheogorath's insanity" and sure enough. XD
Did MDB just admit to being an Alchemist in real life? If so all he needs now is a metal arm and leg as well as a sweet red jacket from Kimera, and he will be ready!
Obviously I’m kinda late but the oblivion series are some of my favorite videos of all time, and they inspired me to play this game for the first time.
2:05 thats a decent point, but to counter. If you are playing as a magic paranoid orc then a magical drink that has magical properties would be suspicious to the character. JK great video MDB!
I’ve been binging these Non Pokemon challenges and am learning more weird little details such as: 1 : You Garden. 2 : You own a Mortar and Pestle. You’re a gamer with a varied life, next I’m gonna hear you got a picket fence and a Nuclear family.
Something that could have helped you, depending on how you implement your own rules is an item, and I know how this sounds but I promise it is in the game. "The Dirty H O E (I just hope that comment stays friendly when spelling it like this)" is is put into the game with the Merunes Razor Add on and can give your enemies all diseases as an on hit effect. It is not magic just dirty and filthy. Also a hidden diseas that can just be put on the enemies by this weapon called "Ticklebritch" and yes it is all a STD joke but with all deseases on your enemy they will end up with -25 Endurance -20 Strength -20 Personality -15 Agility -15 Speed -10 Intelligence -10 Willpower So all in all not to bad But the downsides are that the weapon has a slow swing speed and it does not do all to much damage, but it could be used to set up on stronger enemies Also you said it was the Oblivion Quest of Vlavicus Vile but it was the one of Sheogorath. I am sure it was just a slip of the tongue but I wanted to point it out
This is how i used to always play oblivion as a kid because i didnt want to destroy my items and didnt understsnd how armorer worked or how to recharge weapons. Hell yeah im looking forward to this
Technically, alchemy actually is using magicka for magical effects. The lore is that the same magical energy leaking into Mundus that people use to power spells, is also being absorbed constantly by the plant life (and being stored in the body parts of creatures, that are used in alchemy-like minotaurs' horns and stuff); and alchemy is the practice of concentrating all that stored magic so it can be dissolved into water, and released into a spell-like effect when the potion is drunk (or the poison is forced into the enemy's veins). Still, it's a very indirect way of using magicka, so I-for one-allow it in magicless runs.
Playthrough idea- Oblivion using ONLY magic items. You start off with the Goblin Shaman Staff, and can only use magic items gained through quest rewards or loot drops. No buying them, but you could buy soul gems to recharge weapons. Scrolls and potions count! I had the idea and just started playing it myself. I'm excited to see where it goes!
The Clavicus Vile quest is where you fight Umbra, what you did was Sheogorath's quest. Edit: I wanted to add that you can bypass the potion consumption limit by just closing and reopening the menu.
This was pretty fun! It always amazes me how low level you can be when you finish this game. I always get distracted, then level up a whole bunch, and _then_ go for the oblivion gates.
These are always fun to watch. Pro tip: You did make this a lot harder then it needed to have been thought. Since you was allowing Alchemy, you should really try using poisons more. You be able to beat about 1/2 the enemies that give you issues on the normal. Undeads won't be affected by poison, but you should be able to get through paradise a lot easier.
Idk how useful this is because you might be unable to get it at lower sneak levels, but you can just pickpocket Jauffre's Blades Katana from him before doing the first Oblivion gate, and it should be more powerful than any regular steel swords (and even more powerful than the onehanded Katana you get after joining the Blades if you don't mind having no shield).
I got a challenge for ya, one I'm attempting myself. Can you beat Oblivion as an Atronach? Here are the rules! You MUST use the Atronach star sign. You are NOT allowed to use potions of any kind. The only way to regen magic is through absorbing spells. You cannot attack with unarmed, blade, blunt and marksman. Make every spell count. Welkynd stones are also forbidden.
i got recommended a video with almost this Exact title from you from 2 years ago, and i had to come check that this was in fact the title of this one as well, and i wasnt gaslighting myself. difference was that the old one is for skyrim! glad to see the elder scrolls games can consistently be beaten without magic or magic equipment lol
Him: Next up, we need a Daedric Artifact. Now, I know we'd get absolutely destroyed if I went to the usual vampire cave, so we're gonna' do the really fun Clavicus Vile quest, instead. Also him: ~Does the Sheogorath quest.~ Me: ~Releases air through nose.~
I would say Rock Lee would still be able to cast on self buffs as his issue was his lack of ability to externalize his chakra. He is still able to the the Eight Gates and stand on water.
How about this for a challenge: You must always level up as soon as you receive the message. Jogging through the countryside to a dungeon and Athletics increases, causing a level up? Better turn around and jog yourself to the nearest inn. Slap an enemy with your sword and level up before they die? Time to flee to the nearest bedroll and hope they stop following you.
You know I suddenly got a few ideas for oblivion challenge runs one where you have to become a guild master in all the guilds before beating the game. And another where you need to get all the daedric artifacts first. It's a slog, yes, but it will force you to play through content you otherwise wouldn't.
Did you know that in oblivion if you wait to level up and just level more of your skills, it will still affect the stats offered during the level up. Like when it pops up and says you are ready to level up it doesn't stop tracking the progress towards additional stats. You can use this to make sure you are getting the stats you need before completing the level up.
I honestly wish that the attributes just leveled with your skills so it wasnt such a pain to level properly. I think that would be a good middle ground of leveling important skills and benefitting side skills without keeping track of everything.
I honestly didn't understand the leveling system at all until fairly recently. It's dumb that you should pick skills you won't really use as your major skills just to level up efficiently for the skills you'll actually use.
Or you can just use the mod that makes you get five points in the stats you want each level up because the stat system in Oblivion is one of it’s weak points 🤷♂️
That is absolutely not true. That's the big problem with level ups, and you'll find it mentioned anywhere the leveling system is described. The moment you get the popup saying you can level up, your stat gains are locked in. After that point all stat gains go toward the NEXT level. I don't remember what happens if you get enough to level up a second or third time and it's not as easy to find on the internet. So maybe you can increase your major skills enough to level up, and then after that you can keep gaining skills without caring until your second level will be better. Then you level up twice and the first one isn't very good but the second one is. I don't know if that will work, as I said I can't find the information right now.
Another amazing Oblivion run, really need to try actually playing the game for once myself. I have however played skyrim with only fists, it was a fairly fun run to do if you ever wanna give it a shot for yourself! Would love to see how much better you'll probably do since you are more experienced with challenge runs
Fun fact, my grandmother was staying with us for a few years and she ground her seasonings in an apothecary/mortar and pestle. No matter how much I washed it, it smelled delicious.
I've been watching your channel for a long time... like ten-ish years. But I always liked your play thoughs and flash trash the most. However the oblivion/elder scrolls challenges have become something i look forward to now to! Just wanted to show some support on challenges outside of the pokemon ones. Much love from a longtime viewer
that was Sheogorath's deadric quest, not Clavicus. And a lil tip for whenever you do your next Oblivion run. the strongest weapon available right when starting the game (as far as i remember) is a silver 2-handed sword that you can steal in Anvil's blacksmith shop. most people i remember used the exploit to get Uriel's silver Dagger, and then went to Anvil to get a silver claymore (was that what they're called?)
An interesting idea would be “can you beat Skyrim with only leveling up alchemy” other skills will level up of course but you can only put points in alchemy
Some fine Oblivion Action, this challenge throws me back to times where i first played this 15yrs ago. it was my first TES and boy did i struggle the first few hours xD i too didnt use magic because "yeah a sword!"
Hey! A quick tip if you do more runs magic based or such. At early levels, you can go to cheydinhal and get a quick quest from a high elf npc who stays around the inn near the gate or at the town center. If you have a velkynd stone and a shock touch. You get a free leveled shock spell (fingers of the mountain). It's better that you'd get it early cause it's efficiency lessens the higher level you are.
Man, I didn't realize this was a big deal. This is just how I played as a warrior when I was younger. No magic and didn't really understand how good enchanted items were so I rarely used them and in warrior runs I almost exclusively went without enchanted items Also if you cross the river as soon as you leave the sewer at the start there is an Aelyid ruin right there called vilverin that is perfect for a first dungeon.
“Azura’s Vampire cave might be too hard, so we’re going to do Clavicus Vile’s quest instead” You are lucky you actually did Sheogorath’s quest, because if the vampire cave is too hard, fighting Umbra would have been a nightmare!
I believe the idea of the illusion mace is that it drains your illusion so it is harder to cast invisibility spells and the light makes you easier to detect, so you can't hide from the enemy.
For the next Oblivion challenge I suggest "can I beat oblivion at X level". Basicaly, at the beginning of the game you use "set.level x" or whatever the command was to set your level higher but all your stats will remain at lvl 1 making the game harder as you will encounter higher level enemies. You can do multiple challenges like that, starting from lvl 5, then 10, then 15 and so on...
Remember that one time he wrote something else on that blurb near the beginning instead of the "as always I'm writing the script as I play"? That was funny, I'm always reading that part in particular just to see if he does something like it again
If you watch the blades train in the courtyard you get blade levels. If you watch the two people sparring outside the arena you get hand to hand levels.
The reason flame atronarchs also die in lava is that lava deals Lava Damage, which its own damage type which nothing really resists. Likewise when you drown you are taking Water Damage.
Really wanna see MDB reaction to the new DeathBattle Episode, Chosen Undead vs Dragonborn, that comes out tomorrow, considering how good his skyrim stuff is
I remember the first time I played through the storyline, didn't know you didn't have to go through the Mage's Guild storyline, had done that whole story before I continued with the main one
I know you probably don't care MDB but it's funny so I'll say it. I was really interested in this premiere so I asked UA-cam to notifi me, didn't get the notification, kaught it anyway just to drop out because of personal reasons and then kaught the last second and I mean last before it ended 😂
You'll be pleased to know that at the 18m mark I paused so I didn't waste energy, there's another bonus, that's a perfect pause before the rest of the video, there you go.
it´s funny when you mention the level of intelligence and skill that is the members of the mythic dawn. but those same guys are the ones that kill off the septim line and plunge the empire into the downfall that we see in skyrim where they are wrecked with infighting and are a whipping toy for the thalmor
My headcannon is that the mace that drained illusion magic and made you glow was because an npc remembered you from the illusion magic only run.
Lindai is part of the Umbacano questline. I absolutely adore your pfp!
This would be a killer run!
MDB should do this
Daveygunface has a good run with that idea.
I think there's a run like that here on youtube. Max level enemies with level 1 stats or smth along those lines

The shoutout at the end was a great idea. Supporting smaller channels is great 👍🏻

"Clear All Daedric Shines" challenge
"It only tastes magic" I don't know why I laughed way too hard at this but thank you MDB
Mah-Dry-Bread was wrong on the internet! He said Clavicus Vile when he meant Sheogorath!
Yeah, I got confused about that for a second too. Was sitting here thinking "What does this have to do with Vile? This seems more like Sheogorath's insanity" and sure enough. XD
Maybe it's like daggerfall where Sheogorath will sometimes intercept your phone call.
Did MDB just admit to being an Alchemist in real life? If so all he needs now is a metal arm and leg as well as a sweet red jacket from Kimera, and he will be ready!

I have a wife and two cat sons, does that count?

Also a hidden diseas that can just be put on the enemies by this weapon called "Ticklebritch" and yes it is all a STD joke but with all deseases on your enemy they will end up with
-25 Endurance
-20 Strength
-20 Personality
-15 Agility
-15 Speed
-10 Intelligence
-10 Willpower
So all in all not to bad
But the downsides are that the weapon has a slow swing speed and it does not do all to much damage, but it could be used to set up on stronger enemies
Also you said it was the Oblivion Quest of Vlavicus Vile but it was the one of Sheogorath. I am sure it was just a slip of the tongue but I wanted to point it out
always love seeing elder scrolls challenges. Thanks MDB!
It's clearly time to take this character in to complete the mages guild quest line!
This is how i used to always play oblivion as a kid because i didnt want to destroy my items and didnt understsnd how armorer worked or how to recharge weapons. Hell yeah im looking forward to this

0:50 hold up. Mah dry is already one of my favorite content creators for so many reasons, but did he just make a Rock Lee reference! ❤
Playthrough idea- Oblivion using ONLY magic items.

The Clavicus Vile quest is where you fight Umbra, what you did was Sheogorath's quest.
Edit: I wanted to add that you can bypass the potion consumption limit by just closing and reopening the menu.
Love MDB oblivion challenges! You do good work man. Thank you
Picking skills to level up as little as possible makes sense, but it is cool to see you do one like this as well
This could not have come at a better time. I just broke my wrist and I’ve been on a binge recently. Also love the rock lee reference.
Hey man I hope your wrist gets better soon! And enjoy the MDB binge!
I was about to re-watch one of your old Oblivion challenges when I found this! Perfect! 😂
11:15
ADHD kicked in.
i love you dude, shoutin out some random at the end. truly a heart of gold
I love your Oblivion content. It gives me life. Oblivion was the first game I played after I moved out on my own.
This was pretty fun! It always amazes me how low level you can be when you finish this game. I always get distracted, then level up a whole bunch, and _then_ go for the oblivion gates.
Thanks for keeping me company on my road trip! This was a blast to listen to. Hope you have a good week!
These are always fun to watch. Pro tip: You did make this a lot harder then it needed to have been thought. Since you was allowing Alchemy, you should really try using poisons more. No healing magic? _"Then, you have come here to die."_
Requesting Pokemon B2W2 With Only One Chinchou.
MDBAMA - Are planning to do any more fallout 3 or NV challenges as they have been really fun watching
Yeah!

I've also noticed small channels and very low view videos getting promoted more. Which I think is nice.
As someone who has never played Oblivion, I look forward every video to the "Hail!" scene. The "come to die" scene is also good. =P
Awww yisss, I love that Oblivion is becoming a spin off series ❤
i got recommended a video with almost this Exact title from you from 2 years ago, and i had to come check that this was in fact the title of this one as well, and i wasnt gaslighting myself. difference was that the old one is for skyrim! glad to see the elder scrolls games can consistently be beaten without magic or magic equipment lol

That does sounds like a good idea for next challenge, max lvl after tutorial, just console command it
For future Oblivion runs, Cloud Ruler Temple has free Blades gear you can grab for getting inducted. Loved this one though
2:30 that was a wizards & warriors reference wasnt it? Good one MDB 😂
Fun fact, my grandmother was staying with us for a few years and she ground her seasonings in an apothecary/mortar and pestle. No matter how much I washed it, it smelled delicious.
Oh them Ay-truh-narks are dangerous... :P Love you video as always
Have never played any of the Elder Scrolls games, but I still enjoy these challenges.
ah oblivion. never thought about doing this because i always end up making some op spell and becoming a mage in this game. great vid as always!
I love that you called yourself the Rock Lee!
Bread sensei!
An interesting idea would be “can you beat Skyrim with only leveling up alchemy” other skills will level up of course but you can only put points in alchemy
always so nice of MDB to promote people and channels he finds neat
I do invisible bow guy as my favorite playthrough on almost all elder scrolls games. Not sure why but I love watching the NPCs break looking for me
Some fine Oblivion Action, this challenge throws me back to times where i first played this 15yrs ago. it was my first TES and boy did i struggle the first few hours xD
i too didnt use magic because "yeah a sword!"
Love these elder scrolls challenges!
Man, I didn't realize this was a big deal. This is just how I played as a warrior when I was younger. No magic and didn't really understand how good enchanted items were so I rarely used them and in warrior runs I almost exclusively went without enchanted items
Also if you cross the river as soon as you leave the sewer at the start there is an Aelyid ruin right there called vilverin that is perfect for a first dungeon.
“Azura’s Vampire cave might be too hard, so we’re going to do Clavicus Vile’s quest instead”
You are lucky you actually did Sheogorath’s quest, because if the vampire cave is too hard, fighting Umbra would have been a nightmare!
Next challenge can you beat Oblivion with all enemies being invisible and only using a mace with the illusion drawn and light up charms
“Then you have come here to die.” gets me every time
That Mace of Inequity makes me think one of the best spell for DnD/Pathfinder: Glitterdust. I love glitterdusting fools.
Remember that one time he wrote something else on that blurb near the beginning instead of the "as always I'm writing the script as I play"? That was funny, I'm always reading that part in particular just to see if he does something like it again
That mace that drains illusion and makes you glow is most likely a reference to the spell Faerie Fire.
this was a really fun run as usual.
If you watch the blades train in the courtyard you get blade levels.
If you watch the two people sparring outside the arena you get hand to hand levels.
Off topic, but are you going to play sons of the forest? It has stompable babies
Always a fun watch
I LOVE the Elder Scrolls challenges!
Would an Oblivion Run through the thieves guild and dark brotherhood quest lines with 0 sneak be up on the board for potential challenges?
The reason flame atronarchs also die in lava is that lava deals Lava Damage, which its own damage type which nothing really resists. Likewise when you drown you are taking Water Damage.
The Rock Lee of Oblivion. WHAT A REFERENCE SIR!
Gotta love the the Bethesda challenges.
Thanks for the streamer suggestion, MDB, Kiicha’s a cool watch!!
What's really funny is that somehow, scaling off of Mankar, this orc has solar system level attack potency.
Why didn’t you improve your weapons/armor to give you a bit of an edge?
Would love to see Pokémon Blue with just a Farfetched
No support from khimera ?
I know you probably don't care MDB but it's funny so I'll say it. I was really interested in this premiere so I asked UA-cam to notifi me, didn't get the notification, kaught it anyway just to drop out because of personal reasons and then kaught the last second and I mean last before it ended 😂
Which fossil did he pick up?
Daggerfall challenges any?
For a fun and thematic Oblivion run: two people controlling the character again, beating the Shivering Isles quest line.
You ever do a Shivering Isles challenge? Wonder how it would be to continue the no magic into the Isles.
Every several minutes I was thinking "So far, so good."
Bonus, this video is the perfect timer for my oven to heat up for lunch, win-win.
You'll be pleased to know that at the 18m mark I paused so I didn't waste energy, there's another bonus, that's a perfect pause before the rest of the video, there you go.
Accidentally made my Mac n cheese too salty, so this is the pick me up I needed
it´s funny when you mention the level of intelligence and skill that is the members of the mythic dawn. but those same guys are the ones that kill off the septim line and plunge the empire into the downfall that we see in skyrim where they are wrecked with infighting and are a whipping toy for the thalmor
Amazing video MDB, you need to try only magic and magic items
