The show shows that both had a bit of each other’s best and worse qualities. But what make them truly good friends is the fact the polarize each other. They become mediums of one another. And when the more mature into adulthood they together will be unstoppable forces and more importantly even stronger friends
The scene where Gon confronts Pitou is my favorite sequence in the whole show.
The only time we're Gon shows true unadulterated hatred and rage
I love it too, but it's also pretty difficult to the watch the humanity slowly disappear from his eyes, then his actions. Made even more somber by the fact that he's a child.
The complexity of both of their characters is brilliant. To see Killua experience friendship for the first time and grow was amazing. Though it's sad that he's always looking at Gon's back and Gon is looking forward at his ambitions. The more apparent this was the more I began to think their relationship is unhealthy. I was afraid that one day Gon will again choose his desires over Killua, while Killua desperately held on to the only light he's known. What really worried me was that after Gon was healed and returned to his friends, everything went back to the way it was. Laughing, joking around. As if Gon didn't just UNRAVEL and cut Killua. As if nothing was wrong with what he did/turned into. There remains a fundamental flaw in his sense of justice, and he remains cold and unaffected by pain outside of his own. But I like how you mentioned that their separation in the end was necessary, for their good. So true, but I didn't realize it until you said it. Killua understands light now and can be a light, and Gon has much to learn of love and justice. Great character analysis!
Love this analysis but I disagree that everything just went back to normal. Gon clearly showed remorse for what he said/did to Killua (at least in the manga) and Killua most definitely held Gon accountable and made him apologize. Gon is genuinely kind-natured at heart but EXTREMELY stubborn and desperate to prove himself and sometimes that can overshadow his kindness. But he's still capable of being self-aware and realizing when he was wrong.
A massive theme throughout the Chimera Ant arc is that of the duality of humanity, and the simultaneous exploration of both the pair of warring sides (the Ants and the Humans) and the individual pair of protagonists ties so much of the arc together. Meruem's ascent to humanity, to live up to his namesake as "the light that illuminates all" both literally, by use of his En, and of course metaphorically through his release of any Ant-like ambitions, is often pointed at as the mirror to Gon's descent into the darkness of vengeance, anger, and hate. What isn't often looked at, I find, is the positive parallel between Meruem and Killua, as each of them betray their former darkness in search of meaning, purpose, and contentment with life. The English title for the the latter half of the arc's ending theme, "Hyouri Ittai" is literally "Two sides of the same coin", and I feel that the multiple layers of duality that meander in perfect tempo throughout the arc, from the international to the individual, from the dawn of Killua to the dusk of Gon, from the rise of Meruem to the fall of Netero, each of them bolsters every strength the show already possessed up to this point, delivering a monsoon of metaphor and storytelling that I'm grateful to have had the fortune to bear witness to.

I don't cry too often when watching shows or movies, even if they are great. But when Killua broke down in front of Palm, I cried nearly as hard as Killua did. To me, the most emotional scene in HxH, and it really reflects the falling out that Gon and Killua went through.
It makes me sad those two just children that should never been involved in this war it just end up hurting them both in the end
I thought I was the only one thinking that. I mean where were all the other pro hunters? The fact that there were only 10 people, of which 1 was captured and transformed, 1 had a mental breakdown, 2 were chimera ants and 2 were children. Only 4 were mentally stable adults.
Gon doesn't actually say 'Since this means nothing to you'
What he actually said was 'since this is none of your business.'
Which of course is a major difference, as Gon wasn't accusing Killua of not caring. What he was doing was ostracising him and telling him to stay out of it, and Killua then sees this as Gon no longer caring or needing him by his side.
Great video though, I just feel this is an important thing to mention.

if there was ever a moment that i remember from Hunter X Hunter its the ending of the episode when pito tells gon that kite is dead I just remember the shock and the outro song playing as gon started crying to this day that outro is one of my favorites

Gon did a bad thing when he said Killua didn't care, but i pretty sure he meant Kite, that Kite didn't mean to Killua as much, which is true. Yes, he lashed out at Killua, and when he was revived, it was the first thing he thought about: how he should apologize to Killua. It wasn't not some great moment of revelation, when Gon finally showed his 'monster self' jeez give the kid a break
Gon was selfish for forcing Killua to be his emotional support and care for his safety during their journey, but in the final fight he did his best and i won't judge anyone in his situation

I have much to say, but right now i just got myself clapping my hands alone in my room because of how impressing and well made this two videos i just warched where. Ur wrighting is brillant, u defend ur point with greatness, and tho i discord in some expects, u have made me rethink about a lot of concept in their relatioship. Gon and Killua are admirrable exemplos of true friendship, devotion and love, they show how strong u can care for someone u knew in the most diff of situations and how much things change by lil details, the kindness of one can completely reformulate the heart of another, if Killua never heard about the Hunter Exam? If Leorio, Kurapika and Gon didnt even reach the firts phase? Is like everything worked for them to meet. Light and darkness cannot exist without it other "The brilliant the light, the bigger the shadow" (Hyouriitai - YUZU)
