What I also like about the Kronos Unveiled scene is that as Helen realizes that Bob has been lying to her about his job, we cut to Bob who's putting Elastigirl's name into the search to make sure Syndrome has no info on her. Then he searches for the Frozone info. Only then he puts his own name into the search. I love the duality of the scene, because Helen has every right to think he's cheating on her, but at the exact same time we can see that Bob's priority is his family and friends. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, it's so complex.

The Bible gets to this idea as well with the parable of the talents. The story was never about the fact the one guy was given more talents than everyone else. It was always about the fact that no matter how many talents you have; you're supposed to multiply and expand their scope, thus being able to give back more than what was given to you. The issue comes when you dont do that because then it never grows and you never grow. So after everything is said and done even the one talent you had will be taken. That's people need to understand. Whether you have 1, 2, or 5 talents, you have to do the best you can and grow what you have. That way even if you don't have alot at the end of the day, you'll still have more than nothing.

I feel really conflicted about the word 'talent'. I'll be careful with how I word this, because I promise I don't mean to cause offence, only to offer my perspective.
Before I go into it, I absolutely agree with you, that any skill or passion you have deserves to be fostered, so you can grow in confidence to share the result with others and inspire them to do the same. It is possible to lose a skill that is not actively practiced, but I don't think of it in terms of someone taking unused skills away from you.
Given the rise in popularity of AI 'art', I have come to see the word talent almost as an insult, an inelegant way of praising one's skills. When I show my art and people say I'm talented, it feels like a backhanded insult, like the art I made exists because of this gift that was inside me, rather than attributing it to the persistence and dedication I put into working on it.
If something is a talent, it implies that it is inaccessible to people who don't have the 'gift'. If something is a skill, it means that anyone can aspire to reach the same level and accomplish it through sheer tenacity and determination. In the case of AI, it allows people to cosplay as artists, caring only for the obscene end product and giving no thought to the end process or the people's art that they flagrantly disregard, so they can feel better about having a 'talent' for typing words into a computer and claiming the result makes them an artist.
Even if the art you produce is a lesser quality to the level of art you aspire to make, it still shows greater passion and heart than anything AI could ever make. Art is all about meaning. AI is surface level franken-mashing elements together without any thought or understanding of the meaning of colours, concepts or themes, only striving to replicate popular elements to maximise on viewer retention, capitalising on views. This is not an artistic goal. This is a business goal.
No artist wants Big Number. We want what Big Number represents. When you go viral, you are not in good company.
I wanted to find a positive way of finishing this. Sorry I didn't get there in the end.

    • @sonyyung5510
      @sonyyung5510 7 днів тому +3

@@iantophernicus6042 I think.....there is a distinction between talent and skill. At the same time both are intrinsically linked. One can be talented enough to do something, but have no practical skills towards it. On the other hand one can have all the skills in the world, but without that extra something talent brings, you can only go so far. One can make up the difference with skill, but talent and skill is what is needed to be the best.
I think what I meant by bringing up the story of the talents is to show that there is such a thing as God given talents. Yet without developing the skills necessary to grow said talents, no matter how many "talents" you have you won't go anywhere. When you work with what is given to us and expand it to help others, that is when God gives you more. Whether that's discovering new talents you didn't know you had, or more opportunity to develop more skills. These things make more sense when we dedicate our lives and work towards a God driven purpose.
Your talent for art is a gift, in a way. Trust and believe when I say my art looks like a Rorschach picture 😆. At the same time if you were to never draw art again, you might lose that overtime. Skills are just the willingness to develop the techniques necessary to keep your talents.
The story of the talents and for Heros too is to be in service of your fellow man, no matter the way you achieve that. The path of service is not an easy one, but I think Jesus makes that path clearer and more doable.

As an adult now myself I understand why, it handles its themes very concisely, and doesn't shy away from more mature topics-nor even mature content. Children get punched in the face and shot at with guns in this movie and it can get away with it by treating the audience with respect which is an aspect of Brad Bird's films which I love so much.

„When everyone is super, then the superness is not the specialness but the way in which you are super is then in the focus of specialness.“
So it is a Transformation in consciousness.
When the focus is less on the specialness and more on the type of power then it is not the having of power that makes you special but the „type“ of power and how you use it which is special.

You have a way to put into words what touches me, especially in a story. Honestly, I must have watched the Incredible when I was around 4 or 5 years old for the first time, and this has truly been one of my family's favourite movies of all time. I thought it was because we related to the Parr family, but as you explained, I think it's mostly because the mondain becomes exceptional (or as important as the exceptional) in the movie. You just connect with these characters, and their struggles are so human that it's impossible not to care.
Forever saying Pixar pre-Disney era was the the BEST 👌
thanks for your analysis. Take care! ❤

I hope if we ever get incredibles 3 that it's about the Parents retiring and the kids trying to find replacements but they all come to realize that they're fine as a team of three or even as independent supers and the parents can learn to finally relax and leave the world to their children or the next generation or whatever. Idk I just want one more movie before the voice actors retire but considering the gap between the two we have idk

I watched The Incredibles when it first hit the theaters in the early 2000s. It was great to watch and the soundtrack for it was awesome. Bob wanted to stay in his Super life for a long time but reality and life caught up and things shifted. Helen wanted Bob yet craved for some manner of stability to adjust to their new lives. There was a clear contrast in their ideals but ultimately their lives will never be anything but Superhero focused.

The thing that syndrome didn't get is that being super is not about the powers, it's about the heart. Everyday we see a person without powers putting their life on the line for strangers or making sacrificea so other people could be better, live better. Those are the true heroes, the ones that sacrifice themselfs for the others, despite their circunstacies

    Great video! Loved the movie!
What I find potentially dangerous about this ideaology is it's vagueness. Mediocrity and Exceptionality are vague concepts.
I fear that it is too easily applied by those who simply wish or require feeling superior in order to continue their ways of life.
Sure, in a movie these supers put their lives at risk and save the world from dangers we can all tangibly see.
But in reality, many of the "Incredibles" do not face such foes, nor do they provide any true good for the world. Imagine if these supers used their powers for "mundane" things, like feeding the starving or housing the homeless. Ending genocides.
They might actually look Super for once.

I completely agree, but what makes MR incredible still lovable to everyone, is that while this is the case, he still also does this because he genuinely enjoys doing what he thinks is the right thing as well. He just also enjoy the perks of the fame and recognition as well.
When things go badly in the film and he has lost what seems to be everything, for example when he has the opportunity to kill Mirage in front of Syndrome, and towards the end when he is trying to stop the robot, when knowing the risk of his family dying is for no recognition, except to do whats right against evil, thats what makes him still a true hero.
And I love that depth that he gets throughout the film.
Honestly, as an adult today, still in my top 5 favorite films ever, Incredibles is always up there with films like Gladiator and Bladerunner etc because Disney pixar films, were films made were made, that kids can enjoy.
Now a days, films are made for kids first and that leaves little depth for kids to learn lessons from.
      An INCREDIBLE film forever. 🥳

    • @videogamecin
      @videogamecin 17 днів тому +21

Ehh isn't this a bit of a stretch? Mr. Incredible voluntarily risked his life countless times, putting himself in harms way even when his super strength may not have kept him alive, like when he jumped on Buddy's back without hesitation to remove the sticky bomb, at the cost of letting Bomb Voyage run away
Sure, fame was a part of the package, and maybe doing the right thing was not as much a priority for him as it should have been, but I think he loved the thrill and the glory of the game itself more than the fame it brought, like a handicapped ex soccer star

Bob might have been able to tolerate a civilian life, if that life didn't seem to be by design humiliating (the fact that everything is far too small for him) and mocked the concept of helping people, which he values very much. The company he works for is straight up criminal, refusing to pay out insurance and commiting wage theft (see the letter on the boss's desk), and the boss acts like a supervillain. It's not like Bob can't do an insurance job; he's as smart as he is strong and values the former over the latter, and comes alive when he teaches the old woman how to get her claim. He just needed a better job.
Not that Bob didn't have a hand in his situation, constantly giving himself away and forcing his family to move and single handedly tanking a government branch that was there to help him; they understandably stopped caring about his wellbeing.

I'd actually argue that the film was more in support of mediocrity or, more accurately, highlights the rejection of the mundane and the normal to be a bad thing. This can be seen, for example, by Dash choosing to end up second but being fully content even though he severely limits himself and is further supported by the sequel where Bob has to go through the journey of having to embrace the domestic life in the same way that Helen did.
