  • As the title says, this video shows my journy to repair my 2001 Audi s4 's broken CV axles. The rubber boots were ripped and there was an audible click when turning, so I figured I'd remove them and try to get that resolved. This videos shows the basics of removing, and installing the cv axles.
As the video says, I had the CV joints professionally repaired. This was much cheaper than the OEM replacements and more reliable than aftermarket axles.

Super helpful, watched this mid-job when I should've watched it before getting started!

A garage replaced the clutch on my a4 before I bought it and they decided to grease those 6 bolts so they fell out while I was driving. It looks like those 6 bolts take all the torque? Or is there something that fits into the female hex hole on the transmission side? I couldn't tell if I was missing anything

Did you order a repair kit and then take them to be professionally repaired? Also was it a dealer or local mechanic?
Both my front cv axles have slightly torn boots

I removed the old axles and took them to a cv specialist to be rebuilt

I think he did it this way to avoid messing up the suspension geometry and having to get a wheel alignment afterwards. But yes it'd be a lot easier if you just take the top control arms out and tie rod end bolt

@@Mike-bt3ki everything is just bolted into the steering knuckle, no need for alignment if they are removed and reattached. Your not adjusting the actual tie rod end just removing it and setting it aside

$120 to repair? I just bought a brand new oem driver side axle for $50. How is repairing them cheaper?

Matt Boris oem spec axles are much more expensive. I decided to repair the oem axles rather than buy cheaper aftermarket axles.

You will be buying another $50 axle again....you need the OEM.

Any update on the aftermarket axles? Found this video out of necessity. Looks like ECS has axles for $100, while OEM remanufactured ones (not even new!) are $800. Repacking them would be a steal unless the OEs are holding up just fine for you over the past year.
