    Today is Maintenance Day! In this video I take everyone through the process of a proper maintenance day for a B5S4. We will be changing the oil, installing a new oil filter, installing a new air-filter, and discussing oil and airfilter manufactures.

    I run Liqui-Moly 5w-40 with a Mann filter and I get it from ECS tuning for about $75 shipped with a drain plug/washer and 7 quarts of oil. Sometimes you can find it on sale as well.

      GrinchPro1Gaming the more B5 content the better!.. just can’t be doing it for money (seems he didn’t grow HUGE and stoped the B5 content) .
      I have an ‘01 A4q 2.8.

    I use royal purple 0-40 with the RP filter as well. But I have a k&n cold air intake so no air filters for me, just a good cleaning every maintenance. Love seeing stock B5S4s 😍👍🏻👍🏻

    Keep em coming man good video.
    I use Shell Rotella T6 normally but went with Pentosin 5w40 last change. In the winter I've tried the MobileOne 0w-40 and definitley saw a difference on cold mornings around here.

      kiljosh why you changed? I got rotella t6 (a friend of mine recommended it) is it not good? Thanks

    • @kiljosh
      @kiljosh 6 років тому

      I haven't heard anything bad about Rotella beyond Shell reducing Zinc content inside awhile back. I was ordering from ECS Tuning and they had a special on Oil Change kits so I grabbed a Pentosin one with my parts.

    My 01 s4 has 34k on it. I’ve been running mobile 1. 0w 40. But i run a Mann oil filter OEM quality. Very happy with it.

    I use Motul x-cess 5w-40 in mine currently. True group 4 synthetic and has really good resistance to shearing under high temp operation...according to the internet anyway lol. Last time I bought it it was $42 for a five quart container, so not too bad and more or less in line with offerings from Pentosin, Liqui Moly, ect. that would be classified as group 3 synthetics.
    This may sound a bit silly, but I always try to use parts from the OE suppliers when possible. I have found over the years working on German cars, owning German cars, they just tend to prefer the German made stuff haha. The OEM stuff always just seems to fit better.

      For oil I use whatever the customer wants but in in my own cars we run whatever is euro formula and on sale at the time or rotella, haha. Just change it more often. I am a fan of OEM or Bosch oil filters though.

    I’m a self proclaimed Volvo guy due to the fact that i bought a non running 94 na 850 for $400, and since then I’ve learned soooooo much about these cars i love them. Since it’s got god knows how many miles (odometer was broken at 187k but previous owner estimated it being closer to 205k, and I’ve put a few thousand on it as well since owning it), i use royal purple 530 and it works great for me. I was never a vw or Audi guy. No specific reason other than the fact that I didn’t know jack shit about them. I work at an Audi vw dealership in Seattle as an express tech and boy has that changed. I still love my Volvos, and the only reason my next “nice” car is gonna be an s60r instead of a b5 s4 is bc I’m 20 and would like to wait until I’ve got a lot more money before I buy a car this expensive to maintain. It’s a dream car of mine for sure, but the Volvo will be more practical in my case. Nice content man you gained a sub from me

    • @mstrshkbrnnn1999
      @mstrshkbrnnn1999 5 років тому

      Oh and royal purple is usually $12-14 a quart but I can regularly find the 5 quart bottles under $40 locally. I run either a wix filter or oem.

    A stubby flat screwdriver or a quarter is best to take those cover screws out.

  • @peterharren8909

    You did pronounce my name just right....thanks for the shout out. It seems you had issues getting the belly pan off and it looks like you removed the entire rear "carrier" that attaches the belly pan to the transmission. I don't know if you noticed that there are two (to my memory) quarter turn screws that release the belly pan from the carrier. There also should be three of the same in the front and 2 plastic bolts per wheel well. I wouldn't be surprised if you are missing a few of these or the speed nuts that clip behind them, oil change places are quite good at losing these things. They all are still readily available as far as I know...I've got a thing about keeping hardware like this from getting misplaced. I've usually run Mobile One of various weights, I've got 5w-30 in the garage at the moment. I bet you had tons of fun getting that air box open. :-)

    • @boostbook3747
      @boostbook3747  6 років тому

      You're very welcome. I did in fact have trouble removing the belly pan.. Someone replaced those quarter turn screws with nuts and bolts that would not come lose. It was easier to remove the entire rear carrier lol...

    • @peterharren8909
      @peterharren8909 6 років тому

      You gotta love what people do. ECS has all if the hardware still as a kit www.ecstuning.com/b-assembled-by-ecs-parts/front-belly-pan-installation-hardware-kit/4a0805137kt/ and they also sell smaller kits and separately too.

    Just make sure your oil meets the VW 502.00 spec. Your 0w-40 does. And if u compare the size of the Mobil 1 filter to the MANN filter u will want to throw that mobil 1 filter in the trash. I use the Extended Mann filter, 940/25. Its twice the size and only $7 and what ever vw 502.00 oil i can find. Stocked up when costco had 6 quarts for $26 of Mobil 1 0w-40.

    • @boostbook3747
      @boostbook3747  6 років тому

      Nemesis2747 the mobile 1 filter was the same size as the Mann filter I had on a couple oil changes ago. The extended filter doesn't sound like a bad idea.

      From left to right is the M1 204 that u are holding, the stock sized Mann filter, and then the extended mann. HUGE difference

    • @boostbook3747
      @boostbook3747  6 років тому

      hmmm.. perhaps it wasn't a Mann filter that I'm thinking of.. Thanks for pointing this out and explaining this to me. Although I love Mobile One.. I think I'll try the extended Mann filter next.. Thanks for watching man

    • @boostbook3747
      @boostbook3747  6 років тому +1

      Replace the oil temperature sensor. Go on ECS tuning, they will have it. Make sure to buy "Genuine Audi" for sensors. Other companies sensors occasionally don't work. Thanks for watching and good luck!
