      @@lynnelynne7551 I tried it all and very minor improvement. Eventually it got worse so I bought generic painkiller meloxicam. That took all the inflammation out of the joint and shrunk the knee DRASTICALLY. Huge improvement compared to the natural supplements IMO. I still have her on the supplements too but the anti-inflammatory effects of meloxicam were 100x more powerful.

      We make bone broth easily with our costco roast chickens we put the skin & bones in our instant pot with water & hit the broth button. We cycle it twice to get the bones really soft. Our arthritic dog can walk now. She doesn’t need dog pain meds anymore. We also feed real food, leftovers meat chicken, mixed vegetables, & brown rice. We get mixed frozen vegs in big bags from costco. We give them heartworm pills every month. They get raw hamburger too. We were sick of having great dogs that died from cancer. Now our pets are really old but still active. Our min pin takes SamE for his dementia he’s old but an amazing athlete. Goes upstairs like a flash even tho each step is taller than him.

      @@nofd1977 I did not mean to trigger you, it was just a question. Just a tip, if your only way to stand up for yourself when you are defensive is to tell someone to research it, you should offer a link to a study to at least point out you are not sending people on a wild goose chase, looking for claims you just made up or in this case is probably just your prediction. Although I do already know that politics hurt specific businesses. However, I also know that more often they help musicians build a more loyal fan base and as far as I have researched the evidence supports my claim, which I would be happy to provide if you like?
      I clearly just wanted to ask you and understand your train of thought. Is your word not reliable? If you often talk out of your ass it would make sense to get defensive over someone asking about your thoughts but hey you are allowed to think, I just wanted to know why you thought that. I hope you come to see that you do not need a study to prove your opinions or ideas, unless you want to claim you were correct.

I have my 19 yr old lab with arthritis on homemade dog food made with bone broth, garbanzo & navy beans,carrots, chicken hearts & gizzards then after I add rice cooked in bone broth. She is on omega-3 (thanks for letting me know to increase it!) She take move-free, probiotics& turmeric also gets great relief from her MSM glucosamine treats. Thank you for giving us more suggestions I can't wait to try! Those who leave negative comments are probably veterinarians who are afraid of loosing $ not lives. Please ignore them. THANK YOU- you are providing a wonderful gift to our society and are truly a blessing to our wonderful furry friends and us, their human family! In our home we see our dog and cats as an extension of our family- like our children/brothers/sisters, because they have taught us so much about compassion, empathy, forgiveness and love- we have grown and respect all living creatures and our canine, feline, mammal friends have given us knowledge of what it truly means to love from a universal perspective! I recall when people actually thought animals had no emotions and only basic survival instncts-how wrong we were! We are becoming more balanced as a civilization everyday by learning from one our animal friends! My children have grown up to respect the right of all living things to exist and my eldest son is actually looking for non violating ways to address pest control of all kinds, believe it or not. The world is changing for the better and you are part of that! Thanks again for sharing your extensive knowledge with us!!!

    Thank you for your videos. Our lab has arthritis in his elbows and crepitus. I started treating him with boswellia, cod liver oil, glucosamin/chondroitin with msn but he had an acute episode and had to go to the vet. He has been prescribed Meloxicam 30mcg, tramadol 200mg, (enough to put me off balance), paracetamol 225mgs per day on top of the supplements. He also has cartrofen injection monthly now. My husband and I have worked for the ambulance service in the past and were astonished at the chemical onslaught on an 11 year old dog. He started to vomit , not drink and was constipated so we stopped everything the vet prescribed. He recovered with rice, turmeric, plenty of honey and a little apple cider vinegar and a few senna pods diluted in the mix. He also developed a nasty ulcer on his leg as he was pain transfer chewing. We are treating with dilute apple cider vinegar to clean, gently easing out the fluid and puss and applying honey to the wound twice a day. Everything is improving. I have re-introduced half doses of the meds and of course he's lame again. We are worried about our next visit to the vet and how we argue our case for natural remedies. She hard sells and we're going through a tough time financially. Do you have any advice on how to approach her? Our two lab X 16 month old pups go there too because they give a discount for rescue dogs we can't afford to go elsewhere. Your videos are valuable source of information for us. I am going to try these and will update at a later date. I have a Pomeranian. Also Dr. Andrew, what about infusing Frankincense oil? Does or would that help at all? If you help people you should have a donation button. I believe in nature first and if that doesn’t work then conventional. I appreciate your advice as I see many others do. So.....many thanks for all you do to educate us and the angel you are that looks after so many pets.

    I wanted to thank you for your very helpful advice on more natural, less harmful alternatives that have saved both money and lives. I have one question. Are each of these safe to give every day to dogs for the rest of their lives? I know you said daily, but I just wanted to make sure that did not mean daily for a limited amount of time.

    Hi Dr. Jones,
    I just found your videos a few weeks ago after my Great Dane/lab cross “Aengus” had a bad fall on the ice at the dog park. I was desperate to find something to help him with the pain until I could get him to a vet and I watched your massage video first and it definitely helped ease some of his agony until I could get him to be seen. I took him first to a chiropractor in Edmonton who works on both people and animals (found her same day I found you) and she adjusted his neck, back, jaw, sacrum, hips and even his toes, he was sore still but it helped. She (Dr. Skelton) said I might want to take him to a vet though to get some Metacam to help settle down the inflammation so I did, but of course they wouldn’t give it without doing a bunch of X-rays, etc....so $450 later (Vet bill alone) we went home. Unfortunately due to human error (me) I wasted a bunch of the Metacam and learned the hard way I was going to have to take him back to get a refill (?!?) ....another $300+ later (after they anesthetized him for another X-ray) and we got the script for $90 of Metacam again. When I got home I did some research and found that I could get Meloxicam pills instead at my local pharmacy for $20!?!? So I called the clinic back and asked them for a script for that instead which was another struggle. They said they weren’t really comfortable giving too much of it because it’s hard on liver/kidneys and they’d need to do blood tests every month. Well ok, if that’s what it takes....
    So it’s three weeks later and Aengus was making good progress and saw his Chiropractor Dr. Skelton again who gave him another adjustment and he was feeling just about back to his normal goofy Dane self until two nights ago when my brother unintentionally got him excited to play in my backyard and all I know is he started screaming and holding his right leg up....my first thought was that he might have snapped his cruciate ligament because he was crying and hopping on his other three legs and again, it’s late at night and I live far from any vet so I’d have to wait till morning at least to drive him into Edmonton. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get him in yet because of car troubles 😥 so in the meantime I watched a bunch of your videos and have started giving him the curcumin, quercetin, arnica and fish oil and he seems to be coping, well, as much as he can anyway. In watching your videos I did try palpitating his leg/knee and he doesn’t care at all but when I touch his ankle/foot then he really uses his nose to tell me he doesn’t like that so now I’m wondering if I was wrong and it’s his ankle? How does an ankle injury look/behave and is there anything I can do other than the anti inflammatories to help him until we can get into the city? Can/should I try to wrap it in a tensor bandage?

      I should mention that in the X-rays the vet did there was some osteo arthritis (mild to moderate) in his hips and knees with a number of bone spurs in the joints and one bone spur that had broken off and was floating in the joint space.

      HI Bonnie- did they isolate this to the knee or the spine? SOunds like an ACL injury

    • @fifthgencanuck8663
      @fifthgencanuck8663 6 років тому +1

      Veterinary Secrets Hi Dr. Jones, apologies for the delayed reply. The best answer I’ve gotten so far without having to put him under again and pay for more xrays is yes, they think he has torn his right ACL and the only thing we can do is the TPLO surgery. Unfortunately, we (Aengus and I) left a very violent home situation and that, combined with a job loss means my finances are precarious right now until I can get us sorted out. The $3500 quote for surgery made me cry out of exhaustion, gah. Anyway, after talking to my vet she said the surgery could wait until later but he runs the risk of blowing the other knee out due to the extra strain put on the good knee which makes sense. She also mentioned that the best case scenario is all that happens is he develops arthritis in the injured knee that the surgery wouldn’t mitigate.
      I guess the reason I’m telling you all of this is to see what you think about what I can do to minimize any pain or ongoing inflammation he may be experiencing. I’m trying to research the net for groups that might be able to help us with the surgery costs because of course euthanasia is not an option. Sorry if I sound kind of scattered or disjointed, my mind is really overwhelmed trying to keep it together. There’s not much I wouldn’t do for him, he’s saved my life on more than a few occasions....

    Thank you for the great information on pain relief for dogs! My dog has Cushing's and receives Trilostane to control it. He recently had a tumor removed from his liver. he is 14 and has what looks like muscle wasting in his rear legs. Both knees hare had surgery for cruciate ligament problems (one surgery done wrong), He is very drug sensitive and gets reactions to things. He is getting Metacam for pain, Gabapentin alternating with Metacam and apoquel for fungan skin infextions and itching relief. He was a happy dog and still is, but after starting the pain meds he seems confused and his leg stability isno better. Can I give the natural meds seen in this video with these other meds as i replace the prescription drugs with natural ones? Thank you! My dog still has time left and I want him to continue with his happy days.
