You've got to read her autobiography, easily the best one I've read in the last decade by a musician, so glad she stuck to her guns and wrote it herself. Go Viv! x
I've just read it. I really wanted to like it but I did not! Nothing wrong with the writing, just the long list of idiotic life choices. Irritating. She is a "typical girl", looks or having a baby is constantly on her mind. But when that's not enough she turns to "artistry"... Not that 99,9% of men are any better though. This song is built on Gimme some lovin' by the way.
THE VERMILLION BORDER only gets better with time. "Still England" is a Classic. Viv's books are stunning, compelling, & re-re-re-readable. Viv, if you have another book in the fire, the world will be a better place. We do Love You Madly.
'To Throw Away Unopened' is one of the best autobiographical books I've ever read. It's remained with me in such haunting, vivid detail months after completing it. What an achievement, I'm deeply envious. Memoir and literary biographies are two genres I read most regularly. I hope there's more from you in 2021. What a thrill a new book would be.
Just finished reading her engrossing book, "Clothes, Clothes, Clothes, Music, Music, Music, Boys, Boys, Boys. " I loved it! I love this song!!!!!! Love The Vermilion Border Damn! Viv Albertine is a great artist
Terrific lyrics! Love The album! 'I chose being an artist over being a wife ' Viv's jaw-dropping and incredible autobiography is something I really related to, having a similar dysfunctional life experience and surviving the tough times of the 60s/70s/80s!! I love how Viv tells it like it is.
When her first book came out, before its critical acclaim, I felt compelled to mail her to say just how moving the post punk content was.. Graciously she sent back a lovely reply. The album is wonderful & this track is just fantastic... it builds and builds into a glorious noise, the lyrics insightful & poignant for those of us at a certain age. Cheers Viv... you're a star...
Great to see Viv has always forged her own path and writing books and songs that she wants. It's been many years since I saw the Slits live, 1981 in fact in Manchester.
I came to Viv's written work via another woman who had two copies of the first book. I listened to the Vermillion Border out of intrigue and then bought two copies of it, vinyl and cd. Having done that I found there was a second book, so I bought that too. If you haven't listened to Viv's interview with James Robb then you should.
Clever, catchy song.... kind of like Engels' 'Origin of the Family Private Property' and the State rolled into 'The Feminine Mystique' ... I'm gonna have to go catch a gig
This is easily the punkest thing I've ever had the pleasure to listen to! I'm just finishing her autobiography and, knowing anything about Viv or the Slits prior to that, I'm thrilled with her narrative, her story and everything that's on the book. Maybe not so much with the clothes part, but anyway. A great discovery. Keep rocking, Viv! Thanks for your honesty!
Viv is a massive talent, such a good song. Cut is nearly 40 years old , its a masterpiece..I read somewhere they dont royalties for this album.. what a travesty if true.
Wow what a powerful song the pure frustrations of a Hastings house wife. Really annoyed at myself for not catching Viv live when she supported Adam Ant a few years ago..This woman has the will of steel i second the last remark i have just finished Boys, Sex, Clothes and got the feel of her life through every turn of the page. I hope you manage to find Love again Viv don't give up you are a true warrior/female Icon!! xox
Just started reading 'To Throw Away...' and enjoying the insights on womanhood, I came here to listen to this song mentioned in passing. As a bloke I've always tried to be sensitive regarding the awareness of my privilege and in the era of #metoo feel ashamed at how some (many?) of us fail to understand women and be there for their needs. A very poignant and relevant book for our times. Great song too! An old geezer writes whilst not coughing.
11 months later..i still love it! I dunno, for all of us peeps who lived thru those times, Viv presents a unique perspective, a window on a period of time (that's why i love it) that closed quickly, not rich, not poor...driven, passionate, creative. Does that even make sense?
Yes! Ism't it terrific?! I LOVE IT! Amazing delivery and adore guitar playing. It's basically one note the whole way through which probably is what makes it so fucking brilliant! Fab lyrics, fantastic buid up of different textures and a still, sly and forceful delivery give this song its unmistakeable genius. Great Viv. Love from Australia. Melbourne actually. PS I was pleasantly surprised to read that you were born in Oz. Good work darling. You really are an artist:]===
I LOVE this song!!! Even more each time I listen again!! Having read her biography put out a few years back it really makes sense and is even more of a statement knowing she loved thru that song.....she IS that song! Great Job Viv!!
Brilliant lyrics - funny, neurotic, intelligent and hypnotic. And how good does Viv look?! Welcome back. Oh, and your set at Wilko's Koko gig was terrific. x
Stunning, punk spirit, funny, wind it up music and sexy as hell ... what a gem of an artist :) Id love to play drums for this remarkable woman and hang out with her...so cool
hi Viv, your book is great! so well told and real and without sensational bullshit. an incredible document of a rich life!! love you, R. ps Right on !!!

Play Dublin I ll be there ..P S I ve just bought the same Telecaster as yours Ari up RIP The Slits.. May the road rise A Fan.......
Everything about this is gorgeous. The song, Viv, the video. But as a fellow editor I pay homage to a brilliant cut by Andy Lambert. The jump cutting at the end is transcendental! Viv, is 54 toy boyish enough?
I just wish she would do more albums her lyrics crack me up but not because she is trying to be funny but because they just are funny observations ( a bit like half man half biscuit)
I am very much enjoying the autobiography Clothes clothes clothes, music music music, Boys boys boys. Does anyone know who the musicians that play in Viv's current band are?
5:355:35 I wish Viv would get back into music. She's so good. When it starts to build up, I feel an excitement through my bones. It is thrilling and exciting. Make more music Viv PLEASE!😂🎉❤
An independent woman doing her thing, doing 'ironic' in CAPITALS! ha!, best use of nagging inane riffage & chorus since Big Brother Muscle from The Screaming Blue Messiahs.....SHOES OFF!!
You've got to read her autobiography, easily the best one I've read in the last decade by a musician, so glad she stuck to her guns and wrote it herself. Go Viv! x
Just finished it, blimey what a journey. hats off to her sticking to such an original approach and life.
Just reading it now .... compelling
It's incredibly honest
I've just read it. I really wanted to like it but I did not! Nothing wrong with the writing, just the long list of idiotic life choices. Irritating.

Viv, if you have another book in the fire, the world will be a better place. We do Love You Madly.
A middle aged person who can whip up this kind of fire storm is rare. In a class of her own.

I like the way it piles up on itself like a gathering storm.
A truly wonderful piece of music
Exactly 🎉 like 😮 firecracker 🎉❤

Wow.. I just sent her a note on Instagram and I kinda was hoping that she would reply. Hearing that you got one has elated me!:)

I love her haircut--it's adorable. Reading her book now and about halfway through. She brings the whole punk scene of the '70s vividly to life.
I like this one. It definitely covers a lot her brilliant autobiography, which I read over Christmas.
Clever, catchy song.... kind of like Engels' 'Origin of the Family Private Property' and the State rolled into 'The Feminine Mystique' ... I'm gonna have to go catch a gig
I'm not greedy. More books and songs please Viv. What a breath of fresh air.
This is easily the punkest thing I've ever had the pleasure to listen to! Wow that is amazing 🤩 I don't know anyone who doesn't know anything about punk let alone a Viv Albertine fan! Good work 👍

If you like this one, check out The Madness of Clouds. It's crazier and has some awesome weird bass by Jenny Lindberg from Warpaint.
