What type of tension/tuning do you use on this bass drum? I've always had trouble tuning my bass to that classic melodic/jazz style.

@@MyRsHaCKSdUNWORK No specific pitches, but the batter head is a bit looser than my front reso head. That's for feel mostly, so it doesn't feel like you are playing a brick wall. Also that moleskin patch on the batter does wonders for a bit of muffling and feel also. Get them at your local Walgreens etc.

Howya doin Chris ? Just wondering is that paiste ride your using is that rivited from the factory or did you add them ? If so what kind of rivets did you use ? I have a paiste masters extra dry 21” ride and it’s a lil dryer than I thought wanted to maybe add some rivets. Thanks. Awesome channel you’ve got. Greatly appreciated.
Hey Michael, thanks for the questions! First, the Paiste main ride in this video is a 21" Dark Energy Mark II. The holes for the rivets were done at the NYC drum store Maxwells. I never, and don't recommend, getting cymbals drilled by the factory. The reason is because nearly every cymbal has a heavier spot and that determines where it hangs on the stand. So you need to get a cymbal and play it for a bit to see how it naturally rests on the stand. At that point you can safely put the rivets in the cymbal and you know you are putting them near your main playing area! Secondarily, I have a Paiste Dry model that I took steel wool to. The greyish coating comes right off without my pressure with the steel wool. I did it on both sides of the cymbal and love how it turned out. You might want to experiment with it on the underside of your extra dry and take a little coating off at a time until you reach the sound you desire. I think Paiste should realize this feature and call them the first truly customizable ride cymbal :-) Ha, anyway. Hope this helps!
Chris I tried what you said with steel wool and my grey didn’t even budge. The extra dry is like sprayed twice with the grey stuff. Not sure why u had success doing it. Was excited to try it. Might just trade it in with some other cymbals I have. Get a different paiste. Thanks. Stay safe.

Dr.Scholls Moleskin plus padding, you can cut them to size also. Simple and cheap.
