yea that car had a tractor transfer case so forward and reverse are on a seperate stick from the gears , you can switch between drive and reverse and have 4 gears in each

Not only is Dom doing a wheelie AND a burnout at the same time (props to you guys as I've never noticed that before), but he's also expertly controlling all of this without hitting his car on the ground or flipping over despite the absence of wheelie bars.
The reason they did that was because they had a hydraulic bar that would lift the front end of the charger so it could do a wheelie. They added smoke so viewers couldn't see the bar that lifted the front. If was nothing more than movie magic so the scene was more interesting

9:43 That reminds me of Fast and Furious 5 - Right after the Bank Vault heist, the 2 Chargers seem to switch into their ‘2nd Reverse Gear’ as they speed off with the Safe.

Physics has left the chat since the first fast n furious, when the pink s2000 jump off the bridge and the nos create a supersonic speed on the side window
In regards to a car going fast in reverse, you could technically do it with a "standard" transmission -- only if your car had a CVT. A Dutch company called DAF made CVT cars in the 60s and 70s, which gave birth to an unusual competition called "Dutch reverse racing." DAF cars had no speed limiter in reverse gear, which meant the car's reverse top speed was the same as its forward top speed.
That is very interesting but I’m a little confused, how could you have a standard transmission and a Continuously Variable Transmission in the same vehicle? They’re two different systems
You should talk about the "too soon junior" line and how they always wait with their Nos presses for some reason. That makes no sense - as long as you are not going to make too much power to break traction (like in 1st gear) you should get on Nos as soon as possible for the best acceleration (again, as long as you have traction, which you probably do in 2nd gear in a Jetta)
Yeah I put the blame on this franchise for making everyone believe Nos is like some rocket fuel booster that lasts 5 seconds so you have to perfectly time it. Also that Nos requires additional tuning lol. I always remember that one scene from king of the hill where Dale blows his mower motor in a race by trying to add nos lmao
Thank you about the NOS one, I've multiple times talk about how this is impossible (even once at a garage, the mechanic decided to test it, took a blow torch to a stream of nitrious oxide he was spraying in the air). Also love the "Zombie Car Apocalypse", because after the movie my mother goes "is that even possible", and I had to break it down for her (like how not all would have it)
while i totally agree/understand NO itself isnt flammable, theres a big difference in taking a torch to a stream of NO being sprayed VS taking a torch to the actual compressed bottle with it fully shut.
@@tconthepc_6958 or better do that to burning liquid fuel inside some container which should better represent what happens in the movie. I want to see the most scientifically accurate movie of all time: A Fast & Furious/Transformers crossover, directed by Roland Emmerich and written by the writers for Spongebob Squarepants.
Exactly. I just got done explaining that! ...and in fact, it would work BETTER than a factory EFI in that scenario. This channel so is unbelievably wrong on so many occasions, it drives me nuts!
Craig Lieberman has done a whole channel of fast and furious debunking videos and behind the scenes, he explains the exploding nos scene from a production background, its basically a giant propane tank with a remote detonator in a gutted shell
I don’t understand how this is still “Bumper 2 Bumper” when you’re not going over a vehicle from bumper... to bumper. That’s how the show got it’s name, you know? Not to say it’s not still a good show. I enjoyed the episode. Super informative, as usual, but you can feel where I’m coming from, yeah?
About the high-speed reverse: The real show-stopper to this is the steering geometry of a car. The steering is set up in a way to get a good directional stability and a righting / restoring moment. While driving forward... Driving reverse, this effect also reverses: The car does not want to drive straightforward by itself and if the wheels start to steer in one direction, they want to increase the steering angle.
@@99toyotacorolla Yeah, what the hell was with that? What did the engine make so much torque that it twisted the floor out of the car? ...and I bet that's still a better explanation than anyone who worked on the movie could come up with. And was anyone else confused when a bunch of tuner car lovers were surprised that a Mark IV supra had a 2JZ? Or that Jesse had to explain to Letty how a turbo works?
On the reverse thing, when interviewed, the stunt techs who worked on the cars actually said making a car drive backwards at speed was a really simple device attached to the transmission. Sure, it's not your everyday part, but it's possible.
I always loved when on the movies they could combine both a turbo with NOS, when in reality if you do that your car goes boom, too much stuff going on the engine.
The main problem I had with "car zombie apocalypse" when I saw this movie was, even if you could some how "hack them all", most vehicle's don't have any steering input mechanics that you could control. The only exceptions would be cars with self parallel parking feature. Or as you said, self driving assistance feature.
You could literally say, "Dude what's making your car go faster" "N0" "Why won't you tell me" "I told you already, N0" "You didn't answer me" "Yes I did, N0"
I've done a wheelie while spinning the tires but that's on my bike and happens quite a lot , isn't unheard of on bikes. But I am sure this happening on a car would be a way different scenario
Even if the tyres are going up in smoke, there's still some forward drive being produced. People apply the brakes for stationary burnouts, after all. On a bike you can lean backwards, drastically reducing how much torque is needed to lift the front. And onn some bikes it should be possible to jank up the front just with your body, no engine torque required at all
Ok… learned something here!!!! I know all about turbos and super chargers etc. But I never dug into NoS. And I thought it was REALLY cool that is not jet fuel, but actually a third way of just adding more oxygen to the combustion process just like the basic principle of a turbo or Charger! Thanks Donut!
Yeah pretty much! What sux about the N2O though, is (especially with a decent size shot) keeping the bottle full! I only ran a 200hp plate on one of my cars like 15 yrs ago, and it lasts for quite literally a handful of passes down the strip before you have to top the bottle back off ($$$). Can be tricky too if you're trying to run "consistent" times, as the bottle pressure is always changing. You can, of course, use bottle heaters and stuff, but at that point, you've spent over a grand on you nitrous setup (which you still have to keep getting refilled). It's definitely not for the "budget racer" imho Turbocharge the engine and be done with it! :) ...and add nitrous to that later for extra fun. lol btw, nitrous works really well with turbos (a "50hp shot" will make around 100hp extra with forced induction, too)
This was easily one of my favorite Donut media vids ever, and I'm a big fan of all the various shows. I got into cars not just for the cars, but for the engineering and ingenious science of cars as well, and this satisfied me.
If I remember correctly, there was a G63 that could do 60mph (100kph) in reverse. Stock, out of factory. And some people rolled it, so there was a recall to limit the reverse speed.
They faked it in the movie www.motortrend.com/news/the-fast-and-the-furious-dominic-1969-dodge-charger/amp/&ved=2ahUKEwiGvcOz4qruAhWimq0KHdsIC3cQFjABegQIAhAG&usg=AOvVaw2qh3bhmTtnPjrHeEgv6tUZ&cf=1
I'm a ASE tech and I remember that I was laughing so hard that I couldn't breathe during the whole Cuban race. So many people were pissed and steering at me like I owed them money, my friends were gone before I was able to get my breath enough to stand.
There's an automotive Mythbusters show out there that actually tested the wastegate myth. They used an old Chevy Monte Carlo and attached a boat turbo and a carburetor that can adjust its air/fuel mix on the fly. Having the vacuum line loose didn't work but they rigged up a rat trap to pinch the line which actually worked. Sure it didn't have the exact same effect in the movie, but go check it out.
Morise the car company that build the mini made a gear box like 10:45 That had this very cool designs you should check it out it was designed so in ww2 you could escape tanks faster in your car
Meanwhile, in your videos you forgot to mention the supercharging effect of NOS by cooling the air going inside the air intake. That's in part what makes the mixture more efficient (cooler air = higher density). It's called chemical forced induction. BTW, the NOS won't ignite at explosion, but the bottle under high temperature (the car is on fire) can explode because of expansion of the gas contained inside. So the coloured flames might be kind of right actually ^^. (sorry if my english sucks)
Bottle can't explode. They're equipped with a pressure safety release valve. It dumps it's contents long before the pressure gets high enough to do anything to the bottle.
Well not 250mph because you can't use the power from the ICE in reverse, but you could theoretically go pretty fast in reverse because the electric engines can go just as fast in either direction and you've still got 700hp from them. If it wasn't limited electronically, which I'm sure it is otherwise it's suicide, I bet the Regera could do 180mph in reverse just fine.
DAF actually made cars during the late 50's, 60's and 70's with cvt transmissions that could drive just as fast backwards as they could do forwards. They even used them in backwards driving races! They had a class of their own because they could go so fast in reverse. So there are cars that can go fast in reverse. The lancer is just not one of them haha.

I’d like to see the equations for the safe being pulled by 2 chargers lol
"Bust out your TI-89" lol someone went to high-school in early 00's😅
We're still using that in middle school!

My sister had a hussle with those ti-89s
Ti-89 was too expensive in the early 2000s for me to have one. Had to get through high-school with a boring ass scientific calculator
They've been around much longer than that. I graduated in '99 and I'm pretty sure they were around for my whole school career.
I mean its really not what burns that makes thing explode, it's the pressure build up when it burn.
gasoline alone can explode if it burns fast enough. I don't really see why adding oxidizer would make it burn slower
@@tconthepc_6958 Bottles have a safety blow-off valve for that reason. It would empty the bottle long before it would explode from pressure. If it DIDN'T have that, it could explode...but luckily they all do

His videos are great.

About the high-speed reverse:
The real show-stopper to this is the steering geometry of a car. The steering is set up in a way to get a good directional stability and a righting / restoring moment. While driving forward...
Driving reverse, this effect also reverses: The car does not want to drive straightforward by itself and if the wheels start to steer in one direction, they want to increase the steering angle.

The main problem I had with "car zombie apocalypse" when I saw this movie was, even if you could some how "hack them all", most vehicle's don't have any steering input mechanics that you could control. The only exceptions would be cars with self parallel parking feature. Or as you said, self driving assistance feature.

And onn some bikes it should be possible to jank up the front just with your body, no engine torque required at all
This is the first raid: shadow legends ad I haven’t skipped through
Ok… learned something here!!!!
It's definitely not for the "budget racer" imho
Turbocharge the engine and be done with it! :)
...and add nitrous to that later for extra fun. lol
btw, nitrous works really well with turbos (a "50hp shot" will make around 100hp extra with forced induction, too)

If I remember correctly, there was a G63 that could do 60mph (100kph) in reverse. Stock, out of factory. And some people rolled it, so there was a recall to limit the reverse speed.
The Ford Crown Victoria could also exceed 60mph in reverse. At least with one available diff ratio

I drive some big tractors and they do have multiple reverse gears
How about hooking one of those to a very powerful engine if not motor?
Actually tractors dont have reverse gears. They have the same gears for forward and reverse.
How does B2B have the best intro sequence?? It’s so smooth!!!
Only me and the boys remember the 250 Miles per hour Regera going in Reverse in Forza Horizon 3
Guys watch Craig leberman for behind the scenes and facts on fast and furious.
Yes.
He's awesome.
