  • I really think this is the first video I've done that I put parts on the engine instead of taking them off. I'm totally counting this as a win.

    Funny, I'm about to release a video where I actually start messing with parts to put on the GSX instead of taking them off too!
    Have to check the flywheel to starter engagement with the transmission off the car, then it can go back in ASAP!
    Can't way to see your car up and running. You're doing good work.

      Hell yeah! Just tested my new starter plate today, and once I throw the beast back together, it should actually run!

    You wanna learn how to take 1g's apart go to the junk yard and start ripping the ones there apart. That's what I did along with parting 5 out and I usually know what or where each bolt goes/came from. Once you've taken a few apart to the last nut and clip you've taken them all apart

    Watch out using die grinder discs that look like Scotch-Brite pads for cleaning engine parts the debris that flies off the disk has abrasives in it and it can damage the internals on the engine. Ford had a problem with mechanics using them and getting that debris sucked up into the oil pump on V6 engines, they had us use those green discs that have little fingers on them. Also the best gasket sealer to use is Permatex super 300 gasket sealer it's impervious to everything you should use it on all your water hose connections for your cooling system. Also use a vacuum cleaner to clean the debris out of the Piston Ring area before reassembling the head. An air nozzle will drive the debris from cleaning down into the Rings and cause the engine to burn oil.

      Thanks Mr. H! I’m definitely going to give it a thorough cleaning before I put the head and gasket back on tomorrow! Shop vac to the rescue!

    Ahh so you're the guy that's been making gasket scraping a pia all these years ... lol j/k .. I always used spray adhesive to stick gasket to the waterpump. Just cleaned engine block with brake clean & made sure all gasket material is removed. Never had leaks unless I mangled gasket while inserting pump in harder to reach vehicles ..

      This is my first time rebuilding an engine (if you can even call this rebuilding 🤷🏻‍♂️) and any extra insurance I can have on this stuff I’ll take, any tips for the head gasket and such EM?

      Neil Bullock yeah I would oil those cylinder walls with thin protective coat then stuff blue towels in each when cleaning off head gasket surface on the block. Can use wire cup brush. Make sure to protect any oil galleys from debris. Use brake cleaner to remove all Residue from block and head mating surfaces. You can use Fel Pro or other High quality head gasket sets that come complete with valve cover set etc. You can put the gasket on bare but I sometimes use a permatex Copper head gasket spray or a silver spray paint. You just coat both sides of the head gasket. www.permatex.com/products/gasketing/gasket-sealants/permatex-copper-spray-a-gasket-hi-temp-sealant/. Also check head bolts to see if they are torque to yield. If so you need new head bolts to achieve proper torque.

      Neil Bullock I've done more cylinder head R&Rs than I can recall. Import, domestics , diesels . Hard trying to work on everything. Lol the 2nd worst but exciting car I got to fix was an Original 1 owner 1985 Beige Silver Spur Rolls Royce. They guard service info and will not share so fixing them gets to be a real test of a mechanics abilities. Buying parts for it from Scottsdale Lambo dealer was cool though. $45 for oil filter in black and gold box 😎. Coolant hose and t stat all for bargain price of 185 bucks .

      hah, if my wife wasn't co-driving I'd consider it. I just finished a wave of mods so I really need some seat time to feel it all out.

      Neil Bullock lol true....I have no a/c, wish I could of ran it in Florida heat😥. Due to performance mods I couldn't clear condenser.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 6 років тому +1

      My 1993 Impreza still has the original R12 and still blows cold! It was actually a better AC system, just not good for the air. I've been researching and I'd rather replace with Envirocool (basically propane) than R134a!

    • @abesaiya
      @abesaiya 6 років тому +1

      802 Garage Envirocool? Never heard of it...I have heard that the auto industry was in the process of making a replacement for 134a...is that it?

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 6 років тому +1

      Enviro-Safe! Sorry, got the name wrong. You can buy whole kits to replace either 134a or R12. It is not the new replacement gas, no, but it's legal to use and safe to mix and cools better than 134a from my research. I'll post links in a separate comment in case it gets marked as spam.
