  • We usually post videos of George Younce. But here is another good bass singer by the name of JD Sumner. Here he is singing “Christmas Carol Of Love”. It is in the same tune as the song Rainbow Of Love that JD is known for singing. Hope you enjoy this song. It is a fun song.

Outstanding to hear those subharmonic tones. The GrandDaddy of all Bass Singers. The venerable Mr. JD Sumner.

I can sing those notes in chest also, JD, my friend, seldom used any kind of technique to hit notes he couldn’t get to! Seldom used chest fry only if he wanted that sound in his recording! He was chest notes all the way to a G-0. To me he is still the world record holder for chest notes even though the record is Tim Storms now. Low bass Kenneth

Let me start by saying I am a huge JD fan-met him once-and fully appreciate that he and Jake Hess were THE Super Stars of SGM. That said, whilst JD was unquestionably the lowest bass singer, prolific songwriter, an incredible wit and intellect, and was the ‘inventor’ of travel by customized busses and individual mics, he was not the BEST bass singer. That honor belongs to the ‘Big Chief’ James Wetherington!
