Thankful for my parents who promoted most of these musicians for over 30 years. Miss them including my dad who has almost as deep a voice as JD. We have tapes of them competing in our homes.
Man this is great lol. "Gave George a chance to sing baritone, ain't low enough to sing bass" JD just casually talking lower than most bass singers can even sing.
There will Never be men like these again. Their talent was amazing and thrilling indeed, but the thing that made them so precious and loved was the visible Holy Spirit that resided inside them. Shining and so attractive, pleasing and healing to countless souls for so long. Their love of Christ and desire to serve so beautiful and awesome. The divine factor that was responsible for all they did and contributed. The life changing soul warming songs they wrote and performed so flawlessly were born out of true Holy Ghost power and grace. Millions upon millions have been and still are today beyond blessed and being blessed by their songs of honor and praise for our Father. I know I have been the benefactor countless times from many of their songs, when the clouds roll dark and the adversary is urging to give up, I call upon my Jesus and put in one of my go to songs, pure healing and joy rolls right back in and my light drives out the dark. Thank God for examples like these Men, can't say enough.... See y'all over Jordan so soon now! Love you guys.
I grew up in the Cathedral of Tomorrow from the time I was 11 years old until I went to seminary. I sang in a youth quartet my junior and senior years of high school and had the incredible blessing to sing on stage with the Cathedral Quartet. JD Sumner there will never be any better period! His nephew Donnie is a close second Donnie is love ya and miss the services at New Vison in Lenoir city tn. Donnie you will always live in my heart as I still have the bass you gave me over 30yrs ago.
Both legends. I remember a meeting I was at where Gaither was speaking and fielding questions from the audience. When asked who he thought the best bass singers were, and to give reasons why, he mentioned several, including JD, but never mentioned Younce. He was quickly asked why he hadn't mentioned George. He then grinned and calmly replied, "because George isn't one of the best bass singers in history....he's one of the greatest SINGERS, period, who ever came along!"
"He killed Elvis." You have to know the friendship he and Elvis had to know what an absolute wrecking ball of a roast that was! George and JD were like the Larry Bird and Magic Johnson of gospel music!
I love this video. Two old friends having fun picking at each other. Some of the funniest things you will ever hear, and not one dirty word. God bless JD and George. I bet they’re up there in heaven still ribbing each other and keeping everyone entertained.
