I fish the Walton County area, from Rosemary to Destin, and I saw more bull sharks and tiger sharks last year than I had ever seen ever. This year, I have noticed, that I have not seen any sharks while bottom fishing. I also have not seen any dolphins. I don't know if it is a coincidence but it is strange. In recent years there have been a few projects moving run off just off the city pier in panama city beach, 20 miles up the road, and they had dredged sand changing the layout of the beach and placement of the sandbars. All I know, people are seeing more sharks in the area close up than in years prior. Great video Hal.
I'm from Pensacola, and sharks have been a major issue there for about the last 25 to 30 years. But the whole area has grown in that time too. More people than ever in the gulf now.
Born and raised right here on the gulf coast in Pensacola Florida. Been in the water 100s of times in my 55 years and the attacks have increased and the amount of sharks 🦈. Fact! Ended up the one girl lost her arm and left leg to the knee. The older woman also lost her arm and serious wounds to her stomach.
Great to see you cover these recent attacks Hal, I look forward to when you give us a longer review of them, hopefully soon. People need to be informed, then at least you've done all you can, and it's up to them. Thankyou Hal, another great show!
Hey, Hal. I have a friend whose daughter was on a trip there and right there with the girl when she was attacked. Evidently, they’d met there and been hanging out all week. Said it was almost unreal that it happened, when she witnessed it. Said it looked horrible, and I imagine that’s saying the least!

When I lived in Australia we used to get bronze whalers caught in the sand bar trenches at low tide. They'd come in close to feed at high tide and sometimes get stuck there until high tide again. They'd just swim up and down all day on the bottom. I sometimes put a mask and snorkel on and watch them. A bit eerie at times.
Jamie Daigle was attacked at Miramar beach, which is about 8 miles from where the one lady was attacked, and the attacks were not 4 mi from each other. Seacrest Beach and Watersound beach are maybe 1 mile apart. Both beaches are 8 miles east of Miramar Beach. The two girls were attacked at Seacrest Beach. The lady who lost her forearm was attacked at Watersound Beach. These areas are right next to each other.
This year (January) while spanish fishing off Stuart a large bull bit the prop on my electric trolling motor 2 times viciously and just hung around for 10 minutes. It was wild!
Yeah, I loved Stuart, I use to live there for years when my father and uncles were still alive, but over the last twenty years, you couldn't pay me enough to go swimming at Stuart beach. I was there when that unfortunate wind suffer was killed by a group of juvenile great whites. Between them, bull and tiger sharks, you can forget that s%%t.
The water was extremely clear. The girls were on the first sandbar. (Sharks sometimes like to hang out between the sandbars.) The girl's mother gave a detailed update and the girl (Lulu) also gave an account of what happened, after she wke up from her induced coma. She lost her left hand and her right leg, above the knee. Her friend had cuts and scratches and was treated and released. The woman who was bitten before them, roughly four miles away, lost her lower arm and had damage to her midsection. I believe she is expected to survive. Subsequent helicopter observations revealed a large presence of sharks in the area. The victims were attacked by a bull shark.
It’s assumed it was a bull shark- no one actually knows the exact species. We do very occasionally get white sharks around here but mostly we have just chill little reef or hammerhead sharks that mind their own business. There’s always a shark presence in this area, especially between the sandbars. You can take helicopter shark sighting tours that go just up and down the beach specifically for a view of the space between the sandbars. I was swimming the next day a couple of miles from where attacks happened and there were schools of bait fish coming through pretty often (like normal). The water was crystal clear and felt great. Just a normal summer day. It’s the only time I’ve seen the purple beach flag flown for anything other than jellyfish… we get beach flag updates to our phones daily and it was worded differently - it usually says marine “pests” present (i.e. jellyfish) using a normal font. The wording the 2 days following the attacks was in all caps USE EXTREME CAUTION ENTERING THE WATER*DANGEROUS MARINE LIFE MAY BE PRESENT! There were cop boats and cop helicopters patrolling making it look straight from the movie Jaws. I feel for the victims, it must have been traumatic. At the end of the day, we are actually in their space and not the other way around.
@ShadeEmberi Are you saying you didn't think they would attack in water only 3 feet deep? Bull sharks can easily swim in water 1 foot deep. Of course almost all of their dorsal fin will be sticking up above the water. Anyone wondering how shallow that big sharks can go, there is a well-known video of a tiger shark chasing a sea turtle all the way to the edge of the water.

Oddly enough 2 days before these attacks I was driving over the bridge in Destin right past Mcguires Irish Pub and I saw what looked to be a 7 or 8 foot shark swimming about 200 yards from the sand bar right under the bridge. I was talking with a friend as it happened. 2 days later and the attacks happened in the area. Im wondering if it was that exact shark. Sharks will be sharks. Stay safe everyone.
Hal, the sand bar is out about 100 yards from shore but you’ve got to swim over a 8-10 ft deep trough. Growing up on the NW Fl panhandle, we did this A lot as teens early 60’s…… we were lucky😱
I think things have changed a lot over the years with the sharks. I swam in the ocean in Florida and the Caribbean and Bahamas years ago when I was younger. Would not catch me doing that now. I think the oceans are being overfished. So then the sharks eat whatever they can find now.

Hi, Hal! TYVM for posting a video regarding the recent shark attacks in the FLA Gulf. I hope you have a great week, and an early Happy Father's Day! OX
I got back from Australia 3 weeks ago, where I as well as others went cage diving for those little guppies...white pointers. The mate working on the boat was chumming all day throwing tuna head and blood into the ocean. We were next to a island where seals and sea lions were chalk full. The Neptune islands. We didn't even so much as sniff a white pointer all day. Nothing! However, there's no way I would go into any part of the ocean outside of the cage we were in. The 15 year old girl lost one of her hands & forearms and she ended up having the injured leg amputated above the knee during surgery. Her twin sister was present at the attack and had to witness all of it. They live not far from my hometown so it’s all over local news. I hope they all get therapy to deal with this. Their mom arrived moments after she was pulled from the water and her daughter appeared dead on the beach. She lost 2/3 of her blood volume.
@@jacquelinekenknight9280 thank you for this horrendous update. So tragic, I agree much therapy will be needed. One would think PTSD would be a symptom with both twins seeing the other attack, never mind the severity of their injuries.
Here on the East Coast of Australia heading into winter we are getting the Great Whites returning. Just in my area a lone there has been two 8ft Whites and one 10ft Tiger shark caught on drum lines in the last week.
Great little video Hal, I just want to say that out here in San Diego, CA, we surfers are actually in the water more when it's cold and winter time (better waves). Lots of White sharks out here.
Hal I'm so glad you are doing this attack on the 3 people in Walton County. I have always seen Bull sharks in Panama City and Destin. I literally saw the attack in 2017 in Panama City Beach on the girl that was a soccer player. Bull sharks are people eaters and anything else they can get to. Awesome show Hal! Looking forward to seeing your next show ❤
Thank you for covering these latest attacks Hal . When I lived in Vero Beach they had some type of warning systems that a shark was spotted close to shore. If the horn blew everyone had to get out, and waited till the lifeguards gave the ok to swim. I am not sure if it was a drone or some other scouting method. It seemed to work since no attacks happened, I wonder why it isn't used at every public Beach? . I really appreciate your channel, just found it on theweekend. I never imagined so many shark incidents / deaths were happening or i would never have gotten into the ocean . I grew up on Long Island so we got pummeled by waves but guess we were lucky 🍀 😮
So glad you touched on this. There was so much going on around these attacks I was definitely gonna wait for you to give me the deets. Love the show Hal!
Hey Al, care to speculate on why the great majority of fatalities and maulings occur in the gulf side of Florida, and especially the pan handle? Bulls and tigers are also on the east coast of Florida but they don’t seem interested on predating on people. I have been here in palm beach county for 25 years and I am aware of maybe one fatality and very few minor bites…
This naive Michigander experienced the wave shark firsthand, Blacktip came onto the sandbar out of a wave faster than I could react. Swam around me on the sandbar with most of its body out of the water and then gone. Wade fishing isn't as fun after that.
I live in Laguna Beach right down from the attacks. I love the ocean and have got in the water many times when its calm and crystal clear. I can never really enjoy it always looking at whats around me. I know I would never see a shark coming if there was one. Only a handful of times I have went to waist deep, 99% of the time its only to my knees. The ocean belongs to those that live in it. Thanks Hal for covering these attacks. You can get more info from the comments too.
Hi. I love your show. I am from South Australia and we had a segment on the national news here about a tiger shark . It surprised an ocean research crew by vomiting up an echidna right in front of them . Crazy story.
It's funny, i watch this channel and i think of sharks as scary predators, then i watch ocean Ramsey casually play matador with them, demonstrating how if you just dodge their mouths, you won't get bit.
Here is a novel idea- how about moving the fishing piers away from the beaches????? Put the piers in areas where the people are not swimming instead of right next to the beach goers????
Possibly feeding attacks? Happened about 1:30pm (one victim) and then 3pm (two victims). Multiple bites. Also, there have been GWs spotted in the Gulf of Mexico near FL and AL coasts earlier this year.
Great job Hal. In your research have you found any relation in timing, migrations or water conditions? For instance in Russia the salmon didn't run, so the starving bears came into the towns & cities looking for food. A hungry animal is a hungry animal. So couldn't we learn a lot more by analyzing the food supply? To which its mind blowing that with all these scientists we don't know a heck of a lot more. Love the channel!
What’s scary with sharks is when that switch flicks that they want you, there is a relentless pursuit and no matter what’s in the water with you they’ll only keep going after that same prey
8-9 ft shark spotted at Santa Rosa Beach today. He was cruising between the 2nd and 3rd sandbar, headed East about 75 or so yds out. Life guard was alerted and paddled out, but he was gone, and all was good
I used to "surf here in Florida." I wouldn't "swim in the ocean" or (Gulf) for a million bucks. The "sharks" have more rights to live than the swimmers & surfers today. Thanks for the honest & "quick update" on our Florida shark attacks, Hal. It is appreciated.
I've lived in Pensacola Beach Fl for well over 50 yrs. As a kid swam in the ocean... well Hell, at least a couple of days a week unless it was just too cold. And as a kid, it had to get pretty cold! lol, My point is I was in the water A Lot! But I've been out in boats, and for the past I'd say at LEAST 10 yrs. you couldn't pay me ANY amount of money to get in that water, at ANY depth! The Bullshark pop. is out of hand... And I know there are certain sharks that need protections, but they need to stop the regulations on a few species because its crazy what I've seen. But i'll get off my soapbox, I'm just saying that I am with Hal...If you want to swim, you're better off in a pool!
@robinbowman4549 I visited Pensacola and Destin more than ten years ago and was astounded that there were no real warnings to not enter the water at dawn and dusk let alone that there are bull sharks and how they differ from other sharks. We went fishing and I wouldn't have been too shy to jump in till I saw the barracuda steal our catch and us catching a small shark. The latter didn't make me worry. We also swam with dolphins near an island /sandbar with lots of shells. But I figured out by myself that there needed to be some caution at the beach. Today, I wouldn't enter the water at all further than ankle deep in clear water during day time. Do you approve?
I’m on the east coast of FLA and was a surfer. I agree with you all except the jumpn in with dolphins by the sandbar ooooohh nooooo no no noooo thank you. ;)🤘🦈🤘
All week prior to the attacks the surf was rough, water was murky , however we were catching fish from the beach. Hard tail, lady fish, whiting, red fish. Then the morning of June 7th the surf was calm as a lake, clear and we caught 3 small sharks. 2 bull and a black tip. Nothing else that morning. After we fished, I did see 2 dolphins just off the first sand bar. We were at Perdido Key about 50 miles west from the attack sights.
That part of Florida is shallow for a long way out. The water is very clear and the sand is a perfect white. The second sand bar is about a foot deep and maybe 5-7 right before you get there. The water changes from a beautiful clear blue green to a dark blue on the other side of the furtherest sand bar. You feel very safe because it’s shallow and clear.
I dk if this is happening to anyone else but I’ve been watching this channel from the beginning religiously and past few weeks I don’t get any notifications I know there was an issue of that happening before I’m hoping it’s just a fluke!! I rehit the notification bell to all again hopefully that’ll work!!❤

It's way less likely to happen to me because I'm not swimming in the sea.Another horrible thing that can happen is sunburn.
So glad you touched on this. There was so much going on around these attacks I was definitely gonna wait for you to give me the deets. Love the show Hal!
Thanks Hal
Sharks definitely happened.
That would be a great print on merchandise. Great public service announcement, Hal. Enjoy the video, sad for the victims.
Thankyou Hal from down under 🇦🇺
Where women glow and men plunder?
Hey Al, care to speculate on why the great majority of fatalities and maulings occur in the gulf side of Florida, and especially the pan handle? Bulls and tigers are also on the east coast of Florida but they don’t seem interested on predating on people. I have been here in palm beach county for 25 years and I am aware of maybe one fatality and very few minor bites…
Good question
This naive Michigander experienced the wave shark firsthand, Blacktip came onto the sandbar out of a wave faster than I could react. Swam around me on the sandbar with most of its body out of the water and then gone. Wade fishing isn't as fun after that.
Wow
New term for me-wave shark.
Good morning , Hal.
Thanks Hal. Always giving good advice. 🙂
It's funny, i watch this channel and i think of sharks as scary predators, then i watch ocean Ramsey casually play matador with them, demonstrating how if you just dodge their mouths, you won't get bit.
Great episode Hal!
Another great show, Hal.
Here is a novel idea- how about moving the fishing piers away from the beaches????? Put the piers in areas where the people are not swimming instead of right next to the beach goers????
Great idea but probably easier to move the swimmers…
Quality channel.
Cheers Hal 🍻
Topman 👍🏻
I needed to hear this one …. Thanks
Yeah! Love your channel Hal!
Love these videos ❤
Thank you Hal.
Thank you, Hal!
Thanks for sharing your information hal yes i will be turned in for the next one mate yes its shark season again
Holiday Hal, so glad you are back!!! 😅😅😅❤❤
Glad to have you back. I agree with you 💯. Stay out of the water !!
Possibly feeding attacks? Happened about 1:30pm (one victim) and then 3pm (two victims). Multiple bites.
Also, there have been GWs spotted in the Gulf of Mexico near FL and AL coasts earlier this year.
Absolutely agree, Hal, I like swimming, but not that much.
Cool,calm & perfect. Cheers Hal
My man Hal back at it again with the quality content!
My man Paul back at it again with the quality comment. 🩵🦈
Hal wonder if it has anything to do with tarpon migration. Native Floridian I know on the Gulf this time of year a lot of dangerous shark activity.
I think so. You got the tarpon going after bait and the bigger fish going after the tarpon
You still haven't done Cameron Robbins
I'm going to Florida in August. Eww I don't know if I'll be in the water. My life is too special 😂
2:23 - 3:04 thats a really decent soundbyte Hal , well said :-)
What’s scary with sharks is when that switch flicks that they want you, there is a relentless pursuit and no matter what’s in the water with you they’ll only keep going after that same prey
8-9 ft shark spotted at Santa Rosa Beach today. He was cruising between the 2nd and 3rd sandbar, headed East about 75 or so yds out. Life guard was alerted and paddled out, but he was gone, and all was good
Went in the ocean and they had nets out relatively close to shore. Still had Hal and these videos on my mind
I'm late🏃don't know how I'm pretty much constantly looking for SHARKS HAPPEN😆Hello Hall🙋🏻♀️
Ahhhh, shark attack season! 😳
They probably didn't look it in the eye and give it a stern talking to. I heard that works.
The one teenager that was attacked has had her arm amputated and her leg amputated just below the hip.
Good morning Hal. I was wondering what you thought about these shark attacks.
Seen about these yesterday and the video of the attack on tracking sharks
Bull or Tiger? Reef? Did experts really already proclaim its the same shark, thats definite? How could that already be ascertained?
Come back soon as you can Mr. Shark Man Hall🙋🏻♀️😊life's more exciting when your around👍
I agree with you all except the jumpn in with dolphins by the sandbar ooooohh nooooo no no noooo thank you. ;)🤘🦈🤘
In the ocean, the sharks should have more rights.
Agreed.
Bedtime , i thought that headline said Walmart shark attack something something... Goodnight internet people.
The girl's mom made a statement .
shark took her left hand
And they had to amputate her right leg mid thigh
I was thinking it's probably a bull shark being territorial.
My wife's girlfriend in Florida said just splash around & the sharks won't bother you. Yes, she did. Originally from Midwest.
SHARKS IN WATER PEOPLE In WATER
Forgot the capitalization on the second "IN", bad look.
That's right down the road from me. Florida is the shark attack capital
Ain't stopping me.
Sandbars would scare me. Do they drop off fast or is it a gradual decline? Just curious if anyone knows?
That part of Florida is shallow for a long way out. The water is very clear and the sand is a perfect white. The second sand bar is about a foot deep and maybe 5-7 right before you get there. The water changes from a beautiful clear blue green to a dark blue on the other side of the furtherest sand bar. You feel very safe because it’s shallow and clear.
But clearly aren’t.
I dk if this is happening to anyone else but I’ve been watching this channel from the beginning religiously and past few weeks I don’t get any notifications I know there was an issue of that happening before I’m hoping it’s just a fluke!! I rehit the notification bell to all again hopefully that’ll work!!❤
I think it was 2001 the summer of the shark
