Last summer I watched all Hal’s videos. In April hubby and I went to the Eastern Caribbean on our first kid free vacation in 10 years. We had a great time, including a catamaran tour and snorkelling with turtles in the US Virgin Islands. It was amazing. But, I told hubby, no shiny jewellery, no spear fishing, no peeing in the water. Hubby didn’t know it, but I kept him between me and the deep water the whole time 😂 thanks Hal.
Tiger sharks are are my least feared sharks.....and the most. They seem calm and sanguine. When they have intent you will lose limbs. Great show as always
You jogged a memory of mine in one of your episodes about a book I had read when I was much younger. I remembered that the author had gone shark fishing and subsequently disappeared. I couldn’t piece it together until this episode. I went through a phase when I was younger where I read everything I could on sharks and this was one of the books. Thank you for bringing that up…
Dude, what a coincidence! I started watching your channel a couple of weeks ago. It made me think of this awesome shark book I had as a kid. I've been trying to think of the name of the book, and even went to my Mom's today to look for it. Low and behold! Hal shows me that exact book!
So glad little Barbara survived. A two foot shark biting a 4 year old child is a big deal and modern medicine was not so modern in the 50s. Thanks for explaining the inflicted wounds vividly, making the visual experience more intense in all your stories. ❤
Great ending to this episode 🙂. Love this series!! I Started to learn about surf fishing on the Atlantic ocean in Ocean City MD from my Dad when I was 8 years old in 1967. We caught smooth dogfish, Sandbar and baby Mako sharks along with Blowfish, Kingfish, Bluefish and Flounder... My Dad passed on in Feb. 2022 at 99 years and 4 months old. He would have LOVED Sharks Happen!!! Keep up the great work!!
So happy to see a new show! That is so creepy about the guy knocked off his surf board and feels the great white directly above him!! Absolutely horrible. It's just a miracle he did not get any injury at all. Your stories are Always so fascinating. Thank you for your hard work. ❤
Fishing at a small lake in the UK. I was fishing for small fish with 4lb line on a soft rod. I caught a biggish fish that just ignored me. Other anglers had gone to the fishing lodge because a huge rain storm was coming. The swines stood in the lodge laughing at me as the heavens opened whilst the 12lb fish just wandered around the lake. I was soaked but landed the fish!
@@SharksHappenI really wish I was good at fishing. I just enjoy casting and reeling to relax :) Had my pole completely come apart and fly into the pond at the golf course I was fishing big mouth bass in the ponds , n I stood there questioning my life decisions scratching my head!!
Fine show, Hal. You mentioned reading a book by David Kenyon Webster. That name rang a bell. He was a paratrooper with Easy Company of the 506th P.I.R., 101st Airborne Division in WW2. I learned about him by watching Band of Brothers.
David Keynon Webster served with Easy Company and was in the series Brand of Brothers. I do recall that he wrote a book about sharks. I didn't realize it was about shark attacks..
There was a guy who was actually rescued after spending 3 days inside of a sunken ship. He survived inside of an air pocket, and he had to hear the sharks eating his drowned ship mates inside the ship in the hallways and other areas of the vessel. When the rescue divers came, they had to scare off the sharks.
Thanks for another good hilarious episode. That 6 ft. reef shark attack seems like a what were ya thinkin' incident. Looking forward to your take on the Robbins video. That reference to the stuttering lawyer 🤣 - I've watched that movie so many times since the 90's and still crack up during that scene.
Another great show Hal. 🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈 What happened with Mick Fanning wasn't an attack. The shark didn't try and bite him, it got tangled in his surf leash. There are 4 species of reef sharks. Caribbean reef sharks, black tip reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, and grey reef sharks. What that lady did to that shark wasn't necessary. It wasn't bothering anybody. That poor shark.
26:26 Lol, "if the boyfriend shoots the fish, he should be bitten " excellent statement Hal! Hey sharks happen peeps ❤ love to you all from soggy wet Texas. Have a great weekend. You have the best fish stories Hal 😂
The Popov and Robbins are terrifying because they were caught on video. Really makes it real with hard evidence. I’m still traumatized from the Popov attack. Of course I needed to watch it 20 times. 😮
I jumped to the most recent just to comment. I love your unbiased analysis of each situation. Glad you started a database because some early videos you didnt categorize. Predation vs attempt to predate... is a great distinction. I also like that you speak on how sharks behave when they "mistake" "test" "attack", and not your word but "hunt"..... i, myself, have also noted that sharks "deliberately" hunting people have distinct different approach to those they are investigating or mistook them for something else.... its actually VERY clear. And the scientific community ignores this for the sake of conservation and deniability... sharks are way smarter than they pretend to give credit, and an investigatory bite can easily be fatal for us....
so wild. i literally just saw a video this morning of a tiger shark that was circling a drowned wild boar that got swept out to sea from heavy rains/flooding. it circled this thing so many times, countless times. it was just so interesting to see. the shark was so calculated and so cautious with legitimately every single move it made. when it finally went in for the first bite, it took the boar’s entire head off, and then it still continued circling so many times. i very highly doubt the shark had ever seen a land animal like that before and might never again, so it was just really cool to see the reaction and predation.
Love the shirt, Hal! That is one of my fav colors and it sets your tan off beautifully. I hope you and your Dad have a smooth fishing trip soon, and the icing on the cake would hav to be that you finally get to drink the soft drink you keep spilling. Good luck🍀, and may you catch many more fish!
I'll never forget the first time I saw a shark 🦈 in person. I was vacationing in Bethany Beach, 😮 I was a kid. At dinnertime, a fisherman caught a 5 or 6 ft shark (no idea what kind), but also a pup was swimming in the tidal pool. Mom, perhaps?? I'll never know for sure, but it was still cool to see one in person
Hal I love your stories. You make me laugh so hard I have to run to the bathroom before I pee myself. God would I love to have a beer with you but I'm too far away from the Keys. I live in Delray Beach.
Great fishing tales, I want to catch some catfish up here in Alberta but I have to drive like 5 hours southeast to hit the Milk River that's connected to the Missouri and Mississippi River. It has Stone Cats and Brown Bullheads apparently.
Great show Hal! I'd like to see you go over the attack on the girl who was out with her family and the weather was overcast and there was a rip tide , a jet ski went out to get them and she had been attacked on her leg and she passed away on the beach. You went over it on a show but there is video that you could go over in the future show you mentioned. Thanks Hal!❤️🦈
🦈 ALWAYS ENJOY YOU! Consistently GREAT delivery, presentation, conversation etc! Though I travel quite often, I am still SOOOO GOOD on land … on shore! 😀lol! 🦈
Tiger Sharks are designed so that they can cruise around, like a low-rider, and feast on crustaceans that lay buried in the sand! If you're familiar with boats, and know the difference between V-Hull, and flat-bottom-skiff, you can build an analogy: You have skiff sharks, like Mr.. Tiger, and V-Hulls, like the GWS. The V-hulls require more depth to operate in, and the skiffs can swim right up into you're knees, and remove a leg! Good job Hal! Love/respect.
