mothman84 That's what cheats were for. If I remember correctly, hammer the buttons when you get a game over screen and you get a continue. I may have finished it without it though. At 32:29 I could never pass the spikes but I discovered you can bypass them at 32:10 with a flying cane

That exploit at the end where you can pass Janken with the magic staff... I love thinking of Janken waiting inside the princess disguise and seeing Alex float straight up to the secret room with the princess, going "God dammit! I had this whole battle planned out, we were going to play a Janken game, I get to use my magic fireball... what the fuck dude??"
God, I loved playing this game. I remember I got to the very last screen many times before knowing how to make the crown appear. Then I finally got a newsletter from SEGA outlining how to win. Great memories!
I remember this, it was built into our Sega Master System. Though instead of a rice ball, the game had a cheese burger.

JRMeijin Alex Kidd eats a rice cake in the cartridge version, while eats a hamburger in the version integrated in the console. The latter also got inverted button to mimick other platform games.
You can get a patch online to restore the Western Alex. The 1 and 2 buttons are reversed on this one !!

Nah, I knew about the two shortcuts back in the day somehow. I remember some other kid telling me about it.
I haven't played this game since I was 14 or 15 years all. Now I am 36, I have been more than 20 years without knowing how to overcome the final screen. The one you have to use the stone code. I allways died there because I didn't know how to read the stone, I allways read the stone from up to down and left to right, the ghosts appeared from everywhere and I allways died.
I am amazed with the end, It finish with a "Game Over" :(

Eu acho que esse é um daqueles jogos que merece ser chamado de obra-prima. Um dos mais difíceis do Master, porém muito bem-feito, e que marcou a época. Nunca cheguei longe, é nostálgico depois de mais de 30 e tantos anos poder ver o final...
God, i don´t know how often i played this game but i can remember every single frame. I got to the last room with the symbols but never figured out how to solve the puzzle. So close to the end... still love it!

I still remember every part of every stage. I guess its burnt into my brain from the amount of times I played it, in order to finish it, as a kid. Those spikes near the end of the last castle were hard.

This game and Shinobi were and still are two of my favourite games. The level of frustration from the Octopus and the ghost on this game is still unparalleled.
You open a wonderful mystery box and out comes this ghost to come and ruin your seemingly bright and wonderful adventure!
You learn from the mistake, only to then go underwater to find the octopus flailing its tentacles in order to further frustrate you time and time again!
As for Shinobi, the mini game you got at the end of each level throwing the ninja stars at the coked up speedy little bastards was just immense.
My dad got so addicted to Shinobi, that one day I awoke at the age of 7 to the sound of crushing plastic and electronics to then come downstairs to find my Master System in two and being launched into the bin with the force of a thousand wildebeest by a very pissed off mother.
Ah, childhood.

I remember getting this as a family when I was a child. Alexkid was built into the system and the first time we switched it on, we were all blown away by the amazing graphics. Seriously! We'd never seen anything this good before. Amazing to think how far games have come in the past 20 years. Thanks for uploading, I never reached the end :)

Did anyone else have the version of Master System II that had this game built in? So if you loaded up without a cartridge (or if your cartridge was in, but it was dusty or broken!!!) then the Alex Kidd title screen would come on…again…argh that music!!! (memories!) :D
