This makes my blood boil. I started out my career in a County Jail, where I worked for 3 years and it was grueling. It wasn't Rikers Island, either. Corrections is a thankless job that nobody every aspires to do, and this the thanks the City of New York gives to this man?

The reason they wanted to watch you have sex with the other women officer is so they had some dirt on you, and blackmail you to do other things; like bring in drugs, phone, or other contraband. They would have made a lot more money if they got two guards to bring in whatever they want. prisoners pretend to be your best friend to get you to do something against the rules, suck them into a life of crime. Then they turn the table, and even start treating you and your family. Do not make friends with predators, no matter how friendly they seem!

Former C/O here, all 6 custody levels and including Death Row. My training is that, if 2 inmates are determined to fight, then all by myself I will have no hope to break them up. Wait for backup or until you see one of them looking around for escape or help, as an indication he realizes he can't win and he wants to stop, and so at this point I only have 1 to physically restrain. But the vast majority of the time where i worked i was fortunate to have shotgun coverage as a first resort to break up fights, and usually a warning shot sufficed. Corrections is a good career if you work in a state with sensible competent prison management. Avoid states with private prisons run by corporations.

Ya the whole thing is bs. Just a money-making machine. I had someone accuse me of doing something I absolutely did not do. They were simply trying to get me arrested out of spite. They accused me of threatening their life. My bail was 5k. I of course did not have it. So I sat in jail for 6 weeks. I finally was able to get out when I dropped the bail down to 1500 for me. Moral of the story, the system is not fair, nothing fair about it. You should not be able to jail someone when there is absolutely zero proof. They said I had a history because I got into a fight back in 1999. They use that to act as if I was violent and this was my second offense. Mind you I was being accused of using words, threatening them, no physical violence. Zero evidence. It doesn't matter. Be careful people. I think having female counselors at men's prisons is a good thing. They have a different energy and some men are easier to get through to if you're a woman. As far as officers no way.

This whole world is corrupted. Corrections in any state are horrible. I personally know about 5 people who finished their retirement from Rikers Island and had miserable time. Some have lifelong mental and physical issues. I hope this correction officer gets what he's entitled to? God bless us all in this difficult world. 🙏

I work for one of the three agencies brought up in this video. Keep fighting this, Nick! Dont let them bully you into backing down. I find it interesting that their grounds for termination was that you "failed probation." I'm not sure how they think you getting injured while performing your assigned duties counts as failing. I'm sure your attorneys have already requested all of your employee evaluations- which I'm sure will help with your case. Good luck!

The fact that these inmates helped this man instead of his peers and superior officers speaks volumes. I hope this man wins his fight against the Department of Corrections. They allowed this CO to break up a fight between 2 men all by himself and just watched as if they were viewing a movie. I hope he can get the last laugh. Rikers is no joke. I've had a couple of relatives locked up as well as neighbors. I hated when i made a visit.

Sad how the inmates have more rights and are far more protected than the officers who keep the operation flowing. By far the worst thankless job/career to have.

It’s in the Bronx. All crimes/incidents go through the Bronx courts because it’s part of Bronx County. I don’t think he’s going to get reinstated the way he wants, I don’t know why he didn’t get a full medical pension for his injuries. It’s clear he can’t go back to work there due to his injuries. That rule about the OC spray is ridiculous so if you’re getting assaulted you have to follow some protocol in case the inmate is deaf? The problem is too many police officers get a medical pension that should not and he should get it. In NJ all corrections officers are considered police officers so there seems to be a union problem here not getting these officers covered. He has my respect.

And I had good lawyers but it doesn't matter. Most people don't win this case. I hope he does though. It's written in their contract that they don't have to give a reason to fire you. And he thinks they will give him his job back? Lol. That's just delusional. I hate what happened to him. It sucks. It happened to me a long with ten other people I worked with. There is no beating it. This same thing happens every single day thousands of times in the U.S. the employee doesn't lose this case. Sorry man.
