- FAST & FUN NYC FISHING - PORGY IN THE CITY - NEW YORK CITY PORGIES - URBAN FISHING!!! I was thinking of bait fishing up some NYC porgies for a long while so when Danielle called I ditched my work and picked up a bunch of bloodworms in the middle of the day for some New York City porgy. We had a blast fishing for porgies on top of the bridge. The porgy were plenty and the people were great. Just about every point in time someone was reeling in a porgy. NYC has some pretty good fishing to offer and porgies been on the top of the list most of the season. Most of the porgy we caught were 9.5 to 12.5 inches. The porgies were plenty and all healthy fish. I lost count of how many porgies we caught but if we set our minds to it I am sure we could easily have a limit of New York City Porgies. I really enjoyed the sights, sounds and even smells of the big city and I hope you do too. Although I have fished the big city since I was a kid it is always an experience - especially when you have not a mode of fishing so long. I actually had so much fun fishing for porgies I went back a few other times before and after the video!
Although I have not fished for these critters in sometime I have extensively in the past. I always keep snags in mind when rigging for porgies. I used a simple 3 way rig with 30 pound monofilament to my braid. The braided mainline gives me super sensitivity to bites, bottom, and traffic (passing fish hitting your line). With Braid I can even feel what I am fishing on its kinda like a sonar in the mind. I Albright about a 7 to 10 foot length of mono to my braid. On the bottom end I go up about 7-11 inches tie a surgeons loop cut and snell a #4 Gamakatsu Octopus hook. The bottom end I tie a over hand loop and slip in a 2-4 ounce sinker. If I snag and have to rig again its usually only a few feet to that I do a regular surgeon knot with a fresh 2 foot piece of 30 pound mono clip lagging end snell a hook and drop a sinker on and ready to go! lost so I can get a days worth of rigging without doing another Albright or you can just fish away from the snags.
We used bloodworms of good quality bought right up the block and they can be a huge difference some days but porgy will take clams, squid, sand worms, limpets or any local shellfish would suffice. I tend to cut in 4 pieces so you get a lot of bait from a couple dozen. I like to string the blood worm through somewhat down and out somewhat in so it kinda looks like a San Juan Worm. You can do a search for that to see what I mean but in the end they will take it any old way the blood worms are pretty tough critters. Anyhow I am doing my rambling thing so gonna cut it now and we are always happy to share our experiences with all those around the world and hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it.

One of my favorite spots to fish. When the herring start to run they are plentiful there. Great spot for fluke as well. Always enjoy your videos and I learned a new knot! You are the best man. Life long fan here!
Thanks tides! Used to fish the area often now here and there the porgy are plenty that is for sure! Much appreciate takingh the time to watch and comment!

Thanks smokster seems we are always looking for the big one it never ends!
In the seventies i had my 19ft Cobia trihull docked in River head and access to Peconic Bay and it's wonderful fishery were 5 minutes from dock catching weakfish, humpback porgies, fluke, flounder were always on our menu, we also have taken that treacherous journey to Gardiners island on a windy day which i only did once and that was enough.
That sounds like a heavenly place to fish! I have heard about the weakfish in gardiners but have never been that way that sounds awesome thanks for sharing that Juan!
Another beautiful video Jerry, man if I knew you were in North Channel Bridge I'd have come fish with you lol. Nice chops brother
Thanks Desmond some good fishing to be had I dont live too far just the traffic gets nuts would love to fish the area a bit more well see!!!

Thanks Fishing Ham its been very productive been keeping an eye out there. Get em while you can! Wanted to upload later but hit the button too quick forgot to schedule you know how it goes! talk to you soon!
TIRED!!! Going to bed now
where is that? cbb?
Yes the cbb
Hi Jerry, Looks like you and Danielle had a fun day catching all those Porgies. The blood worms seem to be the bait of the day. Thanks, Mickey
They seemed plentifull enough to try clam but they are weird feeders hear the gulp bloodworms work great anycase was a very productive few hours! But the bloodworms are like porgy magnet expensive though!
I think your best catch is Danielle. She likes to fish, seems like she has a good sense of humor and is attractive. She's a keeper! It's always good to have a fishing buddy. Thanks, Mickey
Iove your channel great videos
Thank you so much Jeffrey much appreciate the comment means a lot!
Soooo many porgies I caught a lot out there last week.
Should be some bass soon coming through there if not already! Heck of a season for them!
Thanks I hit the like button btw
Much welcome and thanks!!!!
as a kid we caught LARGE blowfish and lots of them at Jones and Oak beach.. Love eating and super easy to clean.. Miss their bounty!
Maybe next year may be the year for them! There were tons of them this year around jones past fire island! BUT they were about 2-4 inches long. One night I got peanuts and I was even getting them in the net! Well see next year!
I do hope so... I love them battered and fried ;)
I'll wish I would be thier to keep all the throw bcks.you koko for coco puffs.porgy are the best fish to catch.
They are delicious, I kept many my freezer was filled by this point in the season with them all i needed to keep and no need for any more. thanks for watching and commenting, Fish Your Way, Jerry
I caught a bucket full last week in Floyd Bennett Field, good eating fish
I have driven around that area and up down the inlet and have seen them every where this year had to drop in and get a bunch of them! Thanks!
Классно, палец вверх.
Thanks always good too hear from you!
It seems there was plenty of bait for you to use in that trashcan and you could have saved a few bucks. YUMMY!
I was thinking the same but they are limits to being leathery and thats about it! thanks ARealG!
Hay Jerry iam going fishing tomorrow morning in the Bay by me bringing two of my casting outfits 🐟
Nice!! Please let me know how you do!
Well I went fishing in the Bay by me cought 3 catfish and one sea trout nice morning though
@@jeffreybabino8161 Nice! Thats awesome Jeffrey!
Hi Jerry , i know you like to fish your way but have you thought of using Berkley salt water Gulp Sand worms, one of my fishing buddies loves using them and he catches and you save with the high prices of worms now a days. Tight Knots.
Thats a great idea I have heard they work great may try them sometime thanks juan!
Hay Jerry how are you merry Christmas to you and yours
Thank you Jeffrey I am ok thanks! Have a Merry Christmas to you and family as well!
Nice catch by you and Danielle! Just wish that the fisherman would clean up their messes when they leave, and that NYC Sanitation would actually empty the trash containers on the bridge. How hard would it be to arrange a work release crew to sweep and clean up that bridge every week or two during the fishing season, I wonder? There is some good fishing off that bridge, I just hate wading through trash and old fishing line to fish it.
I know what you mean actually be a great job for one guy and a pickup to walk across a few times a day just check and change the trash regularly its a nice place to be out with eyes on the water all day. Great point and I agree with you thanks for sharing that Kevin and tightlines always!
Where r u
Have a great July 4th
Thanks TTHC you as well much appreciate
I stumbled upon your videos since I got into fishing and have went to this bridge 2 times with no luck, do you have any tips on catching porgys and what size hook should i use?
Good questions. I have found any where you fish it varies year by year week to week day to day. If a area is not producing give it a week or two and check it again. OR try a different tide sometimes its a world of a difference. I like to use size #2 gamakatsu hooks for porgy
Great video Jerry. I might hit that spot soon. I love porgy!!
Thanks as always Michael!
Is that a Penn 155 reel you're using, Jerry? Old school gear for the win! :)
You got it James! Perfect for the day! I took it out a few times maybe do a video with it sometime when its cold out or something thanks and tightlines!
Hi Jerry how are you and Danielle hope all is well happy Thanksgiving🦃
Happy holidays! Thanks Jeffrey! All is well and always the best to you!
Hey nice video man.. By any chance do you know where can i park my car?
Thanks Alvarez, lots are on the south side and street on the north side. Thanks much for watching and commenting!

Either depends where the fish are or people
Hay Jerry what knot is that you tied is that a surgeon's knot thanks 🐟
Yes I like to use the surgeon knot they are quick and easy to tie jeffrey

You can take these home check ny dec for fishing regulations. I kept some another trip and had all I needed just fun fishing today! But yes you can keep your catch in nyc as long as meets dec regulations, good question!
@@FishYourWay whats the limit for it? also in 14 i dont need a liscence yet right?
You can check the nydec website the have all the regulations there. there is also a marine registry you need and can do there too. lots of information to get you started. Hope that helps

@@FishYourWay Thanks for the advice, I will check with Capitol fishing tackle company.
Much welcome!
Reel / rod combo please ? Action ? I m a new learner thank you
Thats a penn beachmaster 155 and a 7' casting rod 2-6oz but any spinning tackle from 2-6oz and about 6 foot to 8 foot would be great up there. I dont like the rods too long theres a fence behind you!
Fish Your Way thank you 🙏🏻

Yes most of the fish were keepers seemed to be 9.5-13" most of them 99%
Can you catch them from this spot in October?
Sometimes you can hard to tell but they do show up
@@FishYourWay Thanks. I am trying to head out there Saturday. I see the boats have some in the area
Heard it slowed a little but bigger porgy around
Where did you go
Jamaica bay NY thanks for watching and commenting
NYC ? I don't think you are in the Bronx maybe Queens ? Ok I give up , glad you didn't pull up an body parts ha ha
Thats Queens Steve not far from where I live actually with rush hour traffic a few miles away red lights and all only take and hour drive probably easier to walk! NYC gotta love it! That bites been great there had a good fill! Didnt get jumbos but all nice fish 99% are keeper size and 11-13 inches good stuff. I been using the blood worms clams work as you know but something about porgy and blood worms like your tackle shop guys says
@@FishYourWay thanks not putting that in the video lol I usually get the sand worms they are alot less in cost at Al's.
Where was this
Jamaica bay thanks for watching and commenting!
Hope you’re not eating those fish...
Keep a batch or two quite good thanks for watching
Why? Seriously, that can be dangerous. You do know the EPA doesn’t recommend eating those fish, right?
You may be more then a tad wrong
Fish Your Way semspub.epa.gov/work/02/206657.pdf
I did not see porgy on the list
