the noon at 12 intuitively makes sense to everyone because this way, the gmt hand follows the path of the sun in the sky. there very few watches that have it this way but this is the most intuitive way of heaving it and the best way to use it as an am/pm indicator.
The Patek 5224R, which has a 24-hour dial for both home and local time, also has noon at the top of the dial. I agree that it’s a very intuitive placement and I like seeing it in this DB. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Great implementation of the GMT function. If I had a spare $120,000, I still wouldn't buy it, but I'd probably pay off my mortgage.

Yep, De Bethune is pure concentrated high horology. I wish I could see one in the metal. Their earlier pieces are simply gorgeous, but the new ones are very cool too. It's also interesting how their designs changed over the years but you can still see the common design DNA. Tim Mosso reviewed a bunch of their watches.

The 50mm lug-to-lug means this is a hard no on my hand-made, artisan-inspired, bespoke, 6.75-inch wrist. It’s nothing to do with the price. It really hasn’t. Honestly. I watched to the end, just to make sure.
I love the correlation between really, really expensive watches having often unpronounceable names. First the sheer cost spills out of your mouth and you end up dribbling in to your hand. Then the name hits you like a tongue twister - wow, double whammy.
The fact that my wrist hair would sprout obscenely through the lugs would put me off it. No, uh, no other reason. But that alone puts it out my consideration. Ahem.
Why is it that so many haute pieces look like town center clocks from the Renaissance era? Do you pair them with a neck ruff and powdered wig? Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the workmanship but the aesthetic does nothing for me. If I ever spend more than say $20k on a watch - I know the featured watch costs so, so much more - it’ll be on a Ressence or something with a similarly modern look.
Love De Bethune but don't understand their obsession with titanium. When I wear an expensive watch I want the feel the weight on my wrist. What I don't want is for to "disappear" on the wrist as titanium watches tend to do.
I like these but the finishing is very sub par at the price point. They aren’t the value buy they used to be before watchbox invested in them. Mb&f or gauthier are good alternatives.
In a watch like this, what gives the watch maker or producer the idea to charge $120k?😂. I mean why that specific figure? Why not $80k or $150k? How do they determine that to be a fair price?
I really don't like De Bethune's watches. I'd like to. That said, I respect the hell out of their watchmaking and the team they have going over there. I've watched interviews with the two founders and walkthroughs of their manufacture and I really like their attitudes and philosophy. Its just the end products look hideous, _to me._ Subjectively. Let me repeat for the other commentors: subjectively. I think they're ugly, and very confused, a mish-mash of clashing elements finished to the highest degree. Even the movements look awful to me (subjectively). I wish they would create a sub-brand of the same quality but making more traditional, actually attractive, watches. Until then I'll admire them with a 10ft pole.
They make a lot less watches per year than Lange and constantly invent new balance springs and balance wheels. Movement finish is not as baroque as with Lange but still top notch. Their margins are probably still super high but the above has to be kept in mind.
42mm is an appropriate size for a large-ish dive watch, not a dress watch. And over 13mm for a manual wind movement is embarrassingly shoddy. The price is also too big. Design is meh.
You are pronouncing 'depth' incorrectly..... Its pronounced 'dept'.... The 12 at the top of the GMT just makes more sense intuitively, as thats where the sun would be at noon if you are standing on the pinion. The rotating blue/gold GMT ball.... GMB..... is a really nice touch and worth about the first $100,000 of the asking price.

I totally agree. I guess I could rotate my Rolex GMT bezel and do it myself. But not with my Explorer 2.
