This video has convinced me that I don’t want titanfall 3. What I want instead are a dozen devlog videos of it, where nothing seems to actually improve. Then when you’re finally set to release it, you disappear for a few years without explanation, come back, and refuse to acknowledge any of what happened 👍

i like this "you cant cheat if cheats are built in" strategy which also makes me wonder what if you made a shooter where instead of picking your gun or class or whatever you pick which type of cheat you want
Nice! The implementation of momentum in this game is good and the idea of projectiles only will bring more skill and less ttk is good, however, the "wall-hacks" seem good but may cause them to be abused, so I'd reccomend having wall-hacks from a certain distance (Either only close-range or only far-range) to reduce the abusibility of the wall-hacks whilst making it still useful for utilisation. Never-the-less, nice video and great game, well done!
100% agree with you here but I believe long rang wall hacks would be the only way to go to maintain a fun balance. It would make hiding (but camping is still visible from distance so it makes it hiding less annoying) during dog fights and tracking much more important which I believe is a major part of titanfall. It would become too much reliant on pin point aim and I believe would cause certain weapon classes to be way stronger because the quicker weapon classes (even with the 'every weapon is an smg' aspect) would dominate lobbies. It would become call of duty with a constant SMG meta.
the game Blacklight Retribution does in-game mechanic wall-hacks pretty well. Every player has a 5 second rechargable bank of wall-hack juice they can use at any time (with a minor cooldown), to check around for campers/sneaky bois
@@bryjacktv what the hell this is such a ridiculous idea why would you ever put wallhacks as a perk I can't believe any self respecting game developer that makes titanfall would implement this
Your explanation of the player's bullets damaging themselves and how you solved it, literally just saved one of my projects that I have been stuck on. I can not believe the fix was to just raycast from the bullet itself. Thank you so much for the development insight.
You can make a hybrid between hitscan and projectile. A lot of modern FPS use this system, where up to 5 meters the shot is a hitscan, but anything further turns into a projectile. It should prevent players hitting themselves when they run fast.
Wall hacks are cool and could be great to tie into buildcrafting, wherein the more powerful the build, the easier they are to see through walls. Could explain them as heatsinks or something.
I like this idea! That could give rise to "low-tech" equipment that generates less heat at the cost of being 'weaker'/less fancy (AK-47 in space?) , or "active cooling" (ejecting your heat sinks?) for temporary stealth.
You, are my personal hero. I don't care if you finish or release this, the fact that you are even trying makes me unbelievably happy. I suck so hard that I'm pretty sure it'd still be fun for me lol. But I imagine making AI pilots would be.... Difficult.
Couldn’t have been that bad, Titanfall 2’s story mode had you face off against several AI pilots (…in their Titans, which I suppose defeats the purpose.)
Been using a hybrid raycast/projectile system for bullets in my projects lately. Cast a ray/line between the bullets current position and position on the next frame, defined by some function + players initial velocity, then use gpu instancing to draw projectiles.
Literally what Armored Core fans started doing years ago. Like seriously, so many fans went off and made their own indie projects to live in the moment once again. Things like Project six, Daemon X Machina, HAMMER, etc. were all created in attempts to fill the game shaped void in our hearts.
1) I always wanted Titanfall 3 to give titans their own wall-run. Most tf2 maps used large buildings to designate lanes which titans could move through, and I always thought those large surfaces would be perfect for titans to wall run on for a short distance. It would give titans a nice mobility boost and offer horrifying moments when a titan appears speeding around a corner at you 2) I like the idea of universal wall-hacks, but would prefer if it was an ability with a timer/range which the players had to actively manage. I also like the idea of people being able to build around it, increasing their sensor range or decreasing their signature. 3) More maps with the Wargames map ascetics pls 4) Great job with the guns so far! The guided shotgun looks super fun to doge and I love the idea of getting a kill by leading bullets following me into an enemy pilot. Focusing on hip-firing and bullet travel time is sick. No matter what you decide on creating in the end it looks amazing and keep up the great work! 5) Finally here are some other people's ideas I liked in the comments to give them some more coverage: - Titan able to slide when they boost to doge rockets in style - Maps with more open space for titans - Keep the grunts - Further titan customization (weapons, limbs, heads, stickers, etc.) - Weapon/character customization options unlocked via kill thresholds - Titan slapping someone melee

Making all of the guns operate as SMGs makes perfect sense in terms of gameplay loop and skill ceiling as well as canonically in the Titanfall lore. Pilots are physically altered for mobility on the battlefield as well as skeletal reinforcement. They're designed to be up close and personal since they sweep battlefields of enemy combatants while honing in on objectives before anyone knows what happened - the human blitzkrieg. So, why would they have long range weapons with substantial kick - especially when you have mobile/transportable artillery machines that come with AI? It doesn't mean accuracy weapons would be removed all together, but adjusted so that you could maintain speed and accuracy without any compromise. In terms of suggestions, there's a video out there that talks about some of the concepts fans came up with for new Titans, a couple being AOE focused, like Scorch. I love Papa's concept and use because, if done right, he changes the level and wall run routes based on setting parts of the level on fire. titanfall 2 was amazing. I'll never forget my pre-nerf Amped Wall G2, 2 shotting everyone. and the time I got a 4 man with Papa Scorche's core. beautiful times.
I wish we had more games which incorporated the "wallhack" mechanic like Blacklight Retribution. Hitting a button which brings up a visor that everyone has access to which allows you to briefly see enemy players, objectives and friendlies through walls for a split second but not for long enough that it completely breaks the game. I miss that game
This man in his excessive, game destroying hubris, actually made a fun looking game. Personally for me I liked the titan customization and voices from tf 1 and the fps enter titan mode
This is super cool! One thing I'd recommend considering is to make the bullets speed be relative to the player shooting them. This means if you are moving really fast the bullets you shoot would also fly through the air faster. This would make it easier to hit unmoving targets if you are flying at them but doesnt really change interactions during chases. Just add the player's speed variable to the speed the bullet is supposed to fly in a function in order to accomplish this. I can't wait to see where this project goes.
I'm honestly really excited for a potential *fanmade* Titanfall 3, even if not by you, even if 10 years down the line, if EA won't do it, the community is already keeping Titanfall 2 alive, so it's not that far of a reach to think they'd make their own.

Wow this is really cool! Titanfall vet here, although I’m pretty sure we all are. One concern. I like the changes to hit scan weapons and making the projectiles slower. But for titan weapons I think you should make the projectiles significantly faster. Otherwise it would be difficult to kill any pilots in this game considering their absurd movement speed. And maybe colliding into a wall at a certain speed at a sharp angle, like 85 to 95 degrees will kill you. Just a suggestion, the wall collision one sounds like it would cause problems but you may be able to implement it. But definitely increase titan weapon projectile speed.
Our collective schizophrenia is so strong that it's spawning TF3 games, this game is so complete and feature rich that it would make Battlefield 2042 blush
So I have a idea if you don’t mind. Grav-soldier Ultimate ability - grav point- Throw a dart that is deployed first and is activated upon input, the dart acts as a personal gravitational point, (it can be physical in shape so you could shoot at it if enemy player) and it acts as a surface you stand on once activated. But the true mechanic is using it as next evolution to the grapple hook because you can swing on it still based off of deployment and location. Activating it causes a matching dart to act as a tether point that accelerates the player in the direction of the deployed dart (dart should be a bubble shape or maybe a set deployable cover where your orientation changes to match the surface if you choose to throw it on a surface but if deployed in the air you like hang off a air ledge to limit advantage and encourage strategy, idk idea is interesting at least) Would make the flip animation worth it too since your swing or subsequent double jump is paired with a sick new movement like a front flip or backflip.
give everyone some sort of magical gun that locks onto your enemies and makes headshots everytime to counter aimbot users and make it to where you can punch people from 50 feet away
Think of it like this. In the future, all of the soldiers are now just a robot. As well, they finally figured out how to constantly peeing in the soldiers on the battlefield from the ships.
New Titan idea, jolt Primary: a balanced arc cannon Ordinance: thunder missile, fires a projectile similar to a thunderbolt Tactical: conductive smoke, non lethal smoke that can be ignited by combining it with any other ability or primary fire to gain a similar effect to monarchs maelstrom Defense: arc field, an electric field that damages close by enemies and shoots down projectiles from all directions Core: arc core, during duration arc field is always active and the arc cannon does increased damage and has faster charge. Also it's a strider class
The see through wall hack is brilliant but it needs a form of cool down or use bare to dictate how long to use it and must have some lore to back it up as to connect it to the titanfall story so it is more than a "thing you just can do, for some reason."
The way you altered the gun mechanics actually makes me think of a totally different game, Tribes Ascend. It's not bad in any way, but what I loved about that game was skating around super fast trying to lead shots with a grenade launcher, good fun. I think you can still launch the game and create an instance, but the servers are probably down at this point. Might be an interesting cross-reference for gunplay stuff. The movement mechanics are wildly different too, but the principle of "no terminal velocity" is similar, except you're more skating on hills and timing boosts than wall hopping.
I think a lot of what made my experience was the PvE/PvP elements, I love fighting against different enemies and the variety between actual player skill and AI was nice
Unironically, this actually displays a massive issue I have with indie-style balancing. Devs create something neat, but then bog it down with a whole bunch of really weird caveats that make it absolutely nothing like what it was originally supposed to be. Starsector adding system on top of system on top of system. First you have hullmods, then built-in hullmods on some hulls, but then you have story-point built-in hullmods that in the newest update now have separate drawbacks that their non-built-in version do not have. Dwarf Fortress, where your character literally gets PTSD and eventually becomes an inept alco holic. Avorion which has gamey and arbitrary limits on ship size because they didn't like you just using large, low-tier ships to beat late-game enemies. 7 Days to Die. (do I need to elaborate? OK, fine: The farming system forces you into a net-loss unless you max out the farming skill, and even then there is still a chance of it.) Cataclysm: DDA, which has a dev that actively nerfs things just because they do what they are supposed to, like spears actually being useful. Elona+ (IIRC? Or one of the other English forks, I can't remember) adding thirst to a grindy-as-he ll dungeon crawler that already has hunger, and making it literally no harder to deal with than standing in a puddle for a few turns. Salt and Sanctuary removing ladder techs years after launch. Hollow Knight _actively_ and _purposefully_ removing speedrunning techs. Space Pirates and Zombies adding Bounty Hunters, which serve literally no other purpose than to grind the main gameplay loop to an absolute halt. Meanwhile, you have games like: Rain World, hardcore survival that actively encourages usage of weird and funky movement techs. Generation Zero, which goes from hardcore tactical shooter to Payday 2 circlesprinting with an LMG and grenades. (if they haven't changed something in an update.) I am genuinely struggling to think of games that don't actively punish you for trying to have fun, and I think that's a lot of the issue. Games are _entertainment,_ and I think a lot of people forget that.
I will never forgive EA for cancelling TF3. It was even MEANT to be a singleplayer game. SINGLEPLAYER! As if I couldn't get enough of the excellent story of TF2, I was gonna be treated to a full sequel. And EA just executed the project behind the shed. Just like that. Just like all the other studios and fun projects. Never forgive, never forget!
I hate how titanfall 2 is basically unplayable now with not being able to connect to the game but when it was, I used to play it with my friend all the time and one thing I would’ve loved in the game was more methods of actually working with your teammates, especially with titans, in titanfall 2 you could ride on a Titan while you were a pilot but that always felt lacking since you’d just get picked off insanely easily since the person in the Titan doesn’t have to worry about things that’ll effect their little pilot friend, this usually discouraged people from ever riding on a Titan since it was basically a death sentence and all you’d ever get one for is to put in a battery, I think it’d be really cool to add some kind of turret or support system that a pilot can use while riding on a Titan and make that some way to access a Titan’s full potential, maybe even a separate mode for that, like when it’s just one pilot then the Titan is much lighter and faster but when it goes pacific rim mode then it’s slower but has more firepower or health, I’m not a game designer at all and I don’t claim to know what is best for a game, this is just an idea I’ve always had and felt like sharing it
Add atmospheric heating meaning if players go fast enough the force of air resistance creates a ball of plasma around them like a spacecraft re-entering the atmosphere. Also make it so if a player reaches the speed of light they become a black hole and everyone dies and the game ends.
1:34 this so the problem the projectiles is what made the movement balanced because you could still have to look at them and you at e still harder to hit, this just makes the game even more sweaty

Your dry, understated comedy is really fucking effective. Excellent video
I have been waiting for this type of devlog
Our collective schizophrenia is so strong that it's spawning TF3 games, this game is so complete and feature rich that it would make Battlefield 2042 blush
Bro this guy needs to make his own game. This looks amazing!
2h 12min and 7s less to wait for titanfall
Nice video
This is seriously cool dude. Genuinely good job.
So I have a idea if you don’t mind.
Grav-soldier
Ultimate ability - grav point- Throw a dart that is deployed first and is activated upon input, the dart acts as a personal gravitational point, (it can be physical in shape so you could shoot at it if enemy player) and it acts as a surface you stand on once activated. But the true mechanic is using it as next evolution to the grapple hook because you can swing on it still based off of deployment and location. Activating it causes a matching dart to act as a tether point that accelerates the player in the direction of the deployed dart (dart should be a bubble shape or maybe a set deployable cover where your orientation changes to match the surface if you choose to throw it on a surface but if deployed in the air you like hang off a air ledge to limit advantage and encourage strategy, idk idea is interesting at least)
Would make the flip animation worth it too since your swing or subsequent double jump is paired with a sick new movement like a front flip or backflip.
guy with a volvo profile pic tells he made Titanfall 3
this might be the best video ever
give everyone some sort of magical gun that locks onto your enemies and makes headshots everytime to counter aimbot users and make it to where you can punch people from 50 feet away
Thank you for the grapple mechanic, that will be implemented in my version of Titanfall 4
Community:” we want titanfall 3!”
Studio: “no”
This guy: “fine I’ll do it myself”
Think of it like this. In the future, all of the soldiers are now just a robot. As well, they finally figured out how to constantly peeing in the soldiers on the battlefield from the ships.
You are the dev - you decide whether the game is complete.
They are the players - they decide whether the game is good.
New Titan idea, jolt
Primary: a balanced arc cannon
Ordinance: thunder missile, fires a projectile similar to a thunderbolt
Tactical: conductive smoke, non lethal smoke that can be ignited by combining it with any other ability or primary fire to gain a similar effect to monarchs maelstrom
Defense: arc field, an electric field that damages close by enemies and shoots down projectiles from all directions
Core: arc core, during duration arc field is always active and the arc cannon does increased damage and has faster charge.
Also it's a strider class
grappling hook should link you to an enemy making their speed, your speed
Thats an interesting way to do it, like instead of taking you to them, you just go as fast as them and have to reel yourself in like your fishing.
Holy shit dude, I haven’t laughed like this in a long time! I wouldn’t mind seeing you make videos with similar humor!
The see through wall hack is brilliant but it needs a form of cool down or use bare to dictate how long to use it and must have some lore to back it up as to connect it to the titanfall story so it is more than a "thing you just can do, for some reason."
I would like the dead titans to lock in place when they die to add to the map wherever they died.
Finally, a pure titanfall experience not watered down for those peasant casuals.
When you talked about a wall run and then a flip, I hoped you were leading into a ceiling-run.
OK, fine: The farming system forces you into a net-loss unless you max out the farming skill, and even then there is still a chance of it.)
Cataclysm: DDA, which has a dev that actively nerfs things just because they do what they are supposed to, like spears actually being useful.
Meanwhile, you have games like:
Rain World, hardcore survival that actively encourages usage of weird and funky movement techs.
Generation Zero, which goes from hardcore tactical shooter to Payday 2 circlesprinting with an LMG and grenades. (if they haven't changed something in an update.)
I am genuinely struggling to think of games that don't actively punish you for trying to have fun, and I think that's a lot of the issue.
Hope you eventually reach your goal and i can play the game as well.
I always wondered why a Pilot doesn't have a "last stand" moment when another Titan tries to "manually eject" them from their own.
I hate how titanfall 2 is basically unplayable now with not being able to connect to the game but when it was, I used to play it with my friend all the time and one thing I would’ve loved in the game was more methods of actually working with your teammates, especially with titans, in titanfall 2 you could ride on a Titan while you were a pilot but that always felt lacking since you’d just get picked off insanely easily since the person in the Titan doesn’t have to worry about things that’ll effect their little pilot friend, this usually discouraged people from ever riding on a Titan since it was basically a death sentence and all you’d ever get one for is to put in a battery, I think it’d be really cool to add some kind of turret or support system that a pilot can use while riding on a Titan and make that some way to access a Titan’s full potential, maybe even a separate mode for that, like when it’s just one pilot then the Titan is much lighter and faster but when it goes pacific rim mode then it’s slower but has more firepower or health, I’m not a game designer at all and I don’t claim to know what is best for a game, this is just an idea I’ve always had and felt like sharing it
Due this is sick, I can’t think of anything better💜💜💜
"How do we improve Titanfall's movement mechanics? We can't. How do we make it cooler? Add a flip."
The next episode, the dude is going himself to the nearest EA office to grab his cease and desist letter because his tired of waiting.
Please make more of this I'm subbing
Add atmospheric heating meaning if players go fast enough the force of air resistance creates a ball of plasma around them like a spacecraft re-entering the atmosphere. Also make it so if a player reaches the speed of light they become a black hole and everyone dies and the game ends.
1:34 this so the problem the projectiles is what made the movement balanced because you could still have to look at them and you at e still harder to hit, this just makes the game even more sweaty
