Oh god, yes, this is me. Doesn't help that I don't live near big cities so the chances to play would already be few and far between and it'd be mostly something I collect and paint and such for fun anyway, but...yeah, so many choices is GOOD but also daunting!
Pick your “Id like to play this” factions and roll a die. Play whichever you get. If deep inside you feel like you wanted to play something else, play that instead.
Dark angels are sort of a Jack of all trades army while Raven Guard are fully focused on stealth. Dark angels is just split into wings with different specializations.
Cross over names really happen a lot and totally trips me up when talking about them to my buddies, I mean you got raven guard, raven wing, blood ravens, blood angels, death wing, death watch, death guard, death korps of krieg just to name a few lol
Hey Tactical, could you possibly try expanding on the Chaos Space Marine Legions in the same way that you did the Space Marine legions? Each Legion is almost as different as each SM chapter having their own set of Relics, Traits, Strats, secondaries, characters and army wide effects to the point that they play differently enough (and have their own aesthetic)
@@richardcollins9356 sure but the CSM codex has clear divisions for each, with multiple Relics, Traits, Strategems, detachment abilities and even a seperate secondary. They’re very much different lmao
@@richardcollins9356 ~7 relics, 6 warlord traits, 8 strategems, a major overall legion trait, unique characters. Picking alpha legion vs Emperors children (for example) are very different gameplans and lists. It is quite literally the same as SM supplements just consolidated into one book
Tau arent communists. They're closer to a mix between an Indian Caste system and the japanese Bakufu. If anything, Genestealers are the communist faction.
I’ve started recently in 40K and I’ve picked up Necrons. I love the detail that was given for all of the factions except Necrons weirdly, as it doesn’t feel like their gameplay is as clearly defined as the other factions. I’d like a bit more detail just on how you think the Necrons perform with regards to playing the game - are they mainly an objective focused faction aiming to hold the middle ground through resilience?
I find your Dark Eldar section...wholly inadequate. Now look. I hate elves. I'm fact I probably hate all things elf more than everyone else I the world combined. I don't doubt that I developed a time machine in the future only to travel back in time to get the elf hate train rolling. That said. The Dark Eldar revamp is more accurately described as Pirates of Dark Water meets Hellraiser in SPAAAAACE oh, also they're junkies. Junkie Hellraiser Pirates of Darkwater. They are my only, 3rd exception in regards to anything elf.
Hey Tactical I've been playing 40k since 8th edition and my favorite and only Army is the Astra Militarum aka the Imperial Guard even though I lost more games than won with them they are still my favorite faction in 40k and more of a casual player my Regiment is 265th Vigilant Guard so great video as always.
One thing that's always weird to me: Imperial/Space Marines "jack of all trades armies". "What types of combat do they do?" "Well, obviously, being jacks of all trades, they do melee. And melee. And charging and melee. And melee and charging. And short range engagements, like melee. And melee. Did I mention melee? Oh, and teleport/movement to get into melee so they can melee. And fast melee. And they're really good at melee. But obviously, they're jacks of all trades. Flexible, and powerful. In melee. Did I mention they're good at melee?" : ) Been watching a number of videos since I'm super new to 40k and think I'd like a shooter type army (I'm the kind of guy who plays Age of Empires 2 building massive armies of British Longbowmen and just arching things to death, or playing sniper or DMR ranged combat in shooter/FPS/3PS games) would be fun, and obviously like Humans (what with being one) and Space Marines seem like the most logical choice as an entry to the universe (since horde armies like Militarum are usually more expensive and time consuming to collect and paint and field), with Marines seeming to be a good balance of elite enough not to be unwieldy, but not so elite as to be over the top (like Custodes or Knights...though I have considered Knights........) But despite being told in every video they're versatile and come in all types of combat, it seems like the videos then tell me how diverse they are in being good at different things...like melee or melee or melee and melee but also melee. : ) Seems Salamanders are good at melee and close/short-range shooting, everyone else is good at some kind of melee...and maybe Iron/Crimson Fists have something to do with shooting (I heard Bolters mentioned, which ARE guns and not melee weapons! [usually...!]), but...then that they're based on destroying vehicles...which seems oddly specific and having little to do with shooting things. Hm. I dunno, maybe Votaan are a Human(-ish/adjacent?) shooter army?
Tau are as snipery as sniper gets in 40k. If you insist on playing humans and disregarding astra militarum, adeptus mechanichus are good at shooting things, and space marines can be tuned to be fantastic shooty dudes. Being 9 meters tall is always an advantage in fights, and chainswords are dope - hence the insistence on melee combat.
I'm planning on returning to Warhammer 40k soon after being away from it for about 11 years but I'm seriously struggling to decide which faction to go for 😅 I like an aggressive playstyle more melee than shooting but would like a bit of shooting support. Anyone have any suggestions for me please?
Custodes. I play them and I shot my way into melee. I also play death guard and shoot my way into melee while still using psychic phase. Or blood angels or votann.... any body but like world eaters, tau, and IG.

Hey man great vid! Very informative! I’ve gotten into the hobby in the last year and I’m still learning the game. Only played some kill team games and small 500 point matches against my gf who I’m also learning the game with lol. A bit of a niche question but I’ve got a few space marines I painted as Salamanders (a librarian, some bladeguard veterans, and Eradicators) while all my other space marines are ultramarines. In a real game could I soup them in or just proxy them as ultramarines or just say that I’ve got a custom chapter with guys with different colors?
So you could proxy them and say they are all Ultra-Marines or all salamanders. Just be clear with whoever you are playing with beforehand. You can always say it's a mission that has multiple different chapters involved which is really cool. Unfortunately in current match play rules it will make you loose the tactics that make those armies good. For example although you are allowed to put in Salamander units if you declare them as such your ultramarines ability "Scions of Guilliman" would no longer be active because you have Units that are not from the UM Chapter. Hope that explains it for you.
@@Optionvideo209 Yeah man i totally feel you! I may eventually repaint all my guys to have a unifying color scheme and be their own chapter. That sounds great!

Just started watching ur vids, its fantastic, i would consider myself a warhammer 40k master, but i still enjoyed very much. I am curious where that video of the tua you have put in the vid was from?
I just recommended these videos to two new people to the hobby who are friends of mine AND they're not even native English speakers (we're from France xD ) : that's how good this video is, it's really, REALLY well made ! I sincerely hope it's going to get hundreds of thousands of views, because it deserves it.
I just got i to it by getting the ork combat patrol but I wanted to find a list to build it up more and didn't want to buy the codex since 10 edition is around the corner
i play necron . it was an easy pick. now i am looking for a second army. that is so hard. knowing it will face my necron . trying not to be bias. i wanted to replicate war in heaven. but im not sure about investing tinto eldar. im not a space marin guy. orc seems to unordered for me. what should i get to face my necron at home and have fun. im looking for a color full army so that i can paint it diferently with more variety
Can I recommend Tyranids? Those are the two that I am collecting and I like the interesting lore dynamic. Ravenous bugs who consume all organic life, and killer robots who long to purge all organic life or become organic again. Tyranids can be extremely colorful and my home battles have been awesome
Question, just like custom space marine chapters are created.... can people create their own xeno species that serve the Tau Empire? Anyone ever done this before?
You can do whatever you want in friendly games...the rules have some limitations on which group can ally with whom. Hopefully that answers your question. Paint and play them however you want that makes the game the most fun for you. Most people are pretty chill about stuff like that.
@M thank you. I've always like 40K lore & war gaming, but none of the factions truelly got my interest in investing that amount of cash. I'd figure I'd go custom lore.
