A tldr on Dead by Daylight lore is that there’s a being called The Entity. It feeds off emotions inside its realm that we call The Fog. It lives somewhere outside the multiverse. The entity plucks survivors and killers from different universes, time periods, timelines, planets, etc. Other aspect of DBD lore is their multiverse concept. Their version of the multiverse works like this: what is fiction in one reality is real in a different reality. In fact when a story writer writes for example a film, it’s the writer connecting to another universe where what they wrote does exist. For example in our universe Halloween and Micheal Myers are just a film and character John Carpenter created, but in other reality it is real. It’s even stated in DBD lore that our universe is fictional story in another universe. There’s a universe where someone is writing a story about a guy name Basement Dweller who is commenting on this channel explaining DBD lore.
Sounds similar to how the multiverse works in the Remedy games as described by Dylan in his dream conversation with Mr Door. “In one world, a writer wrote a story about a cop. In another world, that cop was real.”
A part of DBDs lore is what’s fictional in one universe is the reality of another, so Alan Wake having written about the world of DBD fits in really nicely
As a huge fan of both Remedy's work and an avid Dead By Daylight player this brings me so much joy. I was joking on stream after finishing Alan Wake 2 that it would be incredible and fitting to see Alan in the game. The fact that one of his perks is called "Champion of Light" is amazing! Hopefully the licence will extend to different skins or even more characters from the Remedy verse!
@@HiddenMachineGaming With how the Resident Evil characters were implemented they allowed other characters in the franchise as skins without adding extra perks. For example Jill can be Claire Redfield and Sheva. Hopefully they do the same! Skins won't be announced til the DLC comes out on the 30th but keeping fingers crossed.
I read this morning Rose will be a character! There's one other one with voice lines but they're not in the game files at the moment. We'll find out on the 30th :)@@elliotclarke1311
@@khazaboomDBD yeah I've seen about them, and lots of theories on who it's gonna be!! Just thought best not to say when I don't know anything official yet yk
They released the teaser image of the next lore tome, which will focus on Deathslinger and Alan (They rarely ever do Licensed character tomes, but remedy seemed keen to do one! Which is amazing) The teaser had what looks like a cosmetic of Mr.Scratch on the front of it.
It connects through lore because, as I’ve been trying to say, the Dark Place IS our TV screen/the mind of Sam Lake the dreamer/fiction/entertainment as a whole. Characters suffering for our sake to give us hopes and memories. It’s a horrific concept and I’m pretty sure Sam Lake has been realizing that for a while now.
So I’ve never ever even heard of Alan wake but now that this dlc content drop I still hear his name all the time. I don’t know who he is in real life and I don’t understand why Alan wake is in the game. Is Alan wake in a scary movie or is Alan wake a figment of my imagination. I googled Alan wake and still don’t know anything about Alan wake. Why does he exist and why is he in the game?
Alan Wake is the lead character in a video game called Alan Wake. It's a psychological thriller about an author who goes missing and gets trapped in one of his own stories. Alan Wake 2 came out late last year and is a survival horror game, making Alan and company great candidates for the Dead By Daylight treatment. Alan Wake may still be just be a figment of your imagination.
Alan Wake is the inspiration for a lot of DBD. What’s so confusing about him is in the game there’s live action cutscenes of his actor playing him so it gets confusing because I thought he was real for a while too. In the game there’s a dark presence/the entity that takes you from one nightmare to the next where you are hunted by a different fictional character made by Alan Wake. Like how dead by daylight has you go from nightmare to nightmare fighting different killers from different stories. Gameplay wise you try to repair generators while hunted and use a flashlight to burn the killers. And crows will hunt you and give away your position. All like Dead by Daylight. It’s like singleplayer dead by daylight lol
No, the Dark Presence is the Dark Presence, and Entity is it's own thing. Entity just wants to create endless challenges to entertain itself (and feed itself with sacrifices), Dark Presence is the literal emodiment of Darkness that wants to consume the world. Even in Alan Wake's own lore, as Zayne said in the first game "There are things even more dangerous in the deeper levels of The Dark Place. Plus, if it WAS The Dark Place, Wake would've been in control of the story, and at least written himself a shotgun, lol.
@@HiddenMachineGaming It wouldn't even be that hard to have a connection lol There's not that much difference between an average day for Alan in the Dark Place and Dead By Daylight - you're trapped in a nightmarish pastiche of the "real world," in an eternal loop of torment, victimized by an eldritch abomination that rules and maybe even _is_ the horrible realm you're trapped in...
I'm having a hard time with Alan Wake being canon with DBD fan theory. I love Alan Wake but getting fed up with DBD due to it's current community and lack of objectives for survivors. As for being canon, I don't know why fans of DBD would make such a theory, other than it being a fun collaboration. Are people saying that I have to play DBD in order to enjoy Alan Wake in full, in the same way as Control?
it's confirmed that Rose and one other unknown legendary cosmetic will be out on release (Legendary cosmetics are ones that change the whole character to a new one). And also we have confirmation that Alan will also release with some unique outfits (likely alan wake 1 look) and he will have a tome on release, tomes are like the battlepass of DBD, where there is a rift full of cosmetics and fun things with a free and paid track. They also have 4 pages of gradually releasing missions to help advance this rift. And certain missions unlock documents of lore for the characters focused in the tome, this tome is focused on the original killer deathslinger and Alan Wake. (They rarely do tomes for licensed characters, it's only happened for Amanda Young and David tapp for saw, and Bill Overbeck for left for dead) and one of the cosmetics we got a small look of as apart of the tome rift looks a lot like Mr.Scratch@@HiddenMachineGaming
No Fan from Alan Crossover Events in Multiplayer Games but guess it makes sense here but since i am only Single Player will ignore it and hope Remedy will never pack Canon Stuff in this Collaps.
I personally don't consider Alan Wake being canon with DBD outside its fun collaboration. I mean, the crossover is alright and fun but I just prefer to enjoy Alan Wake as it's standalone without these connection lore and crossover stuff

Wild! I am really enjoying digging into the DBD lore, I appreciate the recap!

The scratch on the table next to the flashlight was honestly the dead giveaway
To me it was the flashlight and the manuscript pages

If only they added Mr. Scratch as the Killer as well.
It would've been a proper canon mindfuck to have Alan Wake running from his evil doppelganger.
Maybe it’ll happen!
Wow, well now i want this too

I like that theory a lot
So, this means that Pyramid Head, and every horror dlc, is canon in Alan Wake universe.
Confirmed. Prove it's not.
I’m down to support this
They already were since Alan Wake references Nicolson in the Shining and Stephen King’s books. So all modern works are in Alan Wake
That we're imply that every horror character, and the DBD realm itself were all written and created by Alan Wake himself, from what I'm seeing.
Alan Wake, Nicolas Cage, Ellen Ripley, and Ash Williams vs Freddy Kruger isn't something I knew I needed to see until just now.
Hahahaha yes

All of these “entities” are just physical forms for “vibes”
Haha pretty much
So I’m assuming The Entity is The Dark Place, or a layer of it.
No, the Dark Presence is the Dark Presence, and Entity is it's own thing. Entity just wants to create endless challenges to entertain itself (and feed itself with sacrifices), Dark Presence is the literal emodiment of Darkness that wants to consume the world.

5:13 It would be fun to see you play it tbh. Also they added even more lore for alan wake now in dbd. There is a whole "tome" for Alan Wake
I’ve been reading up on the lore! Very fun stuff, but I don’t know if I’ll pick up the game still.
Killers are also player characters
6:19 Benedict Baker?? ehhh...Tim Breaker???
One thing to remember is that Alan Wake is canon to DBD but not other way around. Which is very funny way to do it. :D
I think it's too early to call that, Sam Lake sounds pretty into the idea of a full on connection between the games.

It'll probably be like what Stephen King does, lightly implying some connections between his stories and leaving it at that.
Yeah, that seems right
