OMGoodness! I love you! I’m going to make this in the morning. When I was just a girl, I’d say about 5 years old, there was this lady named Ingrid and she was German, but I would go to her house occasionally and she would make this chocolate stuff and I’m willing to bet this is the exact recipe. I’ve really missed it over the years. I thought maybe she just made the cookies and serve chocolate putting and tried it, but mine never tasted like hers. I was always sooooo fond of it but couldn’t figure out how she made it. It dawned on me when I watched you make your chocolate gravy. I’ll bet a million she made it just like you did. Thank you so very much. You’ve blessed this ol’ girl’s heart. I was born and raised in the mountains of WV. I miss home so much. 😢 Thanks again! 😘
@@tootsiea4064 Oh wow! I hope this is the recipe you’re looking for! It’s delicious any way it’s served, but we ate it with our biscuits for breakfast most of the time. My momma would make those big cat-head biscuits, and we’d dip them in our chocolate gravy… soooo good! Let me know how yours turns out! So nice to connect with another West Virginia girl…thanks for visiting!
@@wildwoodholler 😃 well hello I hope you are having a blessed day and I had to share my results... So I was nervous and I felt I didn't put enough butter in there and .....sure enough I didn't mine didn't get all creamy like your did in the beginning it started to lump up on me so I chose to go ahead and put in the sugar and the milk and crossed my fingers and hoped for it to help it not lump up more 😧 MISTAKE lol I thought all was lost so I kept stirring and whisking it really fast for at least 15 minutes and it finally came out just right 🌝😅 so all in all SUCCESS 😊 thank you for this for my first time I say a 7 I'll be a 10 next time 🤟💜
My parents were both from Arkansas (I’m an Okie), so I was raised on chocolate gravy. Sadly we lost Mom before I could get the recipe from her. I’ve been looking for the recipe like she made and this is it. Most others I’ve found use water, Mom didn’t. THANK YOU!
So glad you found my channel and the recipe! I started this UA-cam journey to pass along information, recipes and skills that have been lost over the years. Thanks for commenting!
My grandmother is the first and only person I had ever seen make this. She used a cast iron skillet, sugar, cocoa and milk. That was it!!! Then we would put butter on our biscuits and pour on that chocolate gold!!!
My parents were from Oklahoma, but my Mom's folks were from Arkansas. I was born and raised in California and Mom made it for us a lot of school days. We'd have it with leftover biscuits or buttered toast. None of my friends in Cali ever heard of it. Boy were they missing out!
Actually, a good pudding has eggs in it. But over in the video, I do say this is a pudding, because it does have the consistency of pudding. As I said, we always called this chocolate gravy. When my mom made homemade vanilla or chocolate pudding, she used eggs, which gives it a richer, creamier flavor. Thanks for visiting my channel.
Growing up in North Carolina we used to eat this alot and a thinner version with no flour that we called chocolate syrup, add very little peanut butter to it on your plate mmmm good.
Hey Bonnie I finally found you. I haven’t seen the gravy pudding recipe yummy till now it looks great. I found you on my like videos. I was wondering if you added anymore videos. I do have the bell turned on so you added anymore. I kept putting in backroads and of course it had to be simple. Would you please make a cornbread video? I love cornbread. The first few times milk gravy was so lumpy and then crease would float to top. Lol! I finally master making gravy.
Hi Naomi...good to hear from you and glad you found my channel again! I haven't added any new videos. Sooooo much has happened since the last one...it's been crazy the past few weeks. First off, my son has had gall bladder surgery, so I had him back and forth to the doctor and ER several times before the surgery. He had a few minor complications afterward, so that meant more ER trips. He's doing fine now, thank the good Lord. Then, my husband got a new job. They called him one day and wanted him to be at work the next morning...3 1/2 hrs. away, in another state!!! So that, of course, put us in a bit of bind...and a hurry...lol But we did it! We rented a hotel for the first week, but are in an apartment now, so things are better. We still have our home, and I'll be traveling back and forth between home and the apartment (don't know how often hubby will get to come home). My grown kids still live at home, and they are taking care of it while hubby and I are gone, so that's a relief. I will be making new videos soon, and yep, I sure can make a cornbread video! I won't have a lot to do when I'm here at the apartment, except craft and keep up with all of you...my crafty friends! Again, really nice to hear from you! Sorry for the long post...:(
Simple Backroad Life I am so sorry about your son. I am so glad he is better. My daughter had her gall bladder removed and doing good, probably about five yrs ago. Wow, I don’t blame you to go with your husband. I am so thankful your son is ok and that you could go. A sick child no matter how old they are will worry a good mommy and daddy. I am glad you still have your home tell those children don’t mess it up lol. I love your reply it is actually great known that you don’t mind writing to me especially being a crafter. I will soon add my ornaments I am making from happy bird site. I need to add a charm to them and will be finished. It really took me days to make them Bc drying time. She sure can make some beautiful ornaments. Thank you will be watching for my cornbread recipe. Love your friend Naomi
Naomi Jacobs You are so right about parents worrying about their kids! No matter how old they are, they are still our babies. I’m looking forward to seeing the ornaments you’ve made. I have an idea for some and hope to do a video as soon as I can get back home to get the supplies. I still need to bring more craft/sewing supplies to the apartment. Thanks so much, my friend, for keeping in touch and watching my videos. Love and blessings...
I'm so glad to other people making chocolate gravy, it's a staple here in our area of Arkansas, I posted a picture of my chocolate gravy one time on facebook, and people did not what it was, some said oh yea!, and some said yuck, we love it, thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for stopping by! Yep, chocolate gravy was a staple here, as well, when I was a little girl. But, a lot of people even here in my area have never heard of it. I hate to see so many of the old recipes and old ways being lost, and that's one of the main reasons I started sharing videos. My parents' pre-teen/teenage years were spent during the Great Depression, and they taught me so much about living a simple life. I enjoy passing those things along to others. Thanks for commenting.
YUMMY CHOCOLATE GRAVY RECIPE😋😋😋THANK YOU 🙏 YOU SAID YOU WOULD MAKE A CORNBREAD VIDEO &&& I MUST BE OVER-LOOKING IT😐WOULD YOU PLEASE GIVE ME THE EXACT TITLE OF THAT VIDEO, SO I CAN LOCATE IT, “PLEASE MAM” YOU ARE A NATURAL AS A GOOD COOK & VIDEO MAKER♥️ THANK YOU 🙏 & GOD BLESS YOU... :) Diane
Pretty much how I make it that I learned from my mamaw. You forgot to add how much butter you use in the drop down recipe description. I know you said 3 tablespoons in the video. Thanks for sharing. It’s all becoming a lost art thanks to the “fat free police.”
Thanks for watching and commenting! And thank you for pointing out my mistake...I'll correct it! You are right...old-fashioned cooking IS becoming a lost art. That is one of the main reasons I started this channel...to share with anyone who might be interest! Thanks again!
Don’t know what is better, the accent or the chocolate gravy!!! Making this for my wife and MIL for Mother’s Day in the morning!
I sure hope your wife and MIL enjoys it! And thanks for watching my video and commenting.
