A special homage to Dr. M Balamuralikrishna by AIR - National Programme of Music - 26.11.2016

- This radio programme is uploaded based on a suggestion received from a distinguished rasika of murali gAnam.
Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna transitioned exactly 6 months back (22nd November 2016). This programme was originally broadcasted as a special homage by AIR in their National Programme of Music on 26th November 2016, from 21:30 to 23:00 hrs.
The same is being shared here as a respectful tribute to Balamuralikrishna on this platform. I sincerely thank AIR for their broadcast and hope they would also bring out some of the unheard melodies of BMK from their archives.
For some unknown reason, I had not listened to this programme until this morning; and when I did, it was a delightful experience listening to BMK, as always. The programme has selected songs from AIR archive.
One thing that swept me off was the last track. The seamless transition between the rendition of Pibaré Rāmarasam and the Tillana in Ahir Bhairavi tillana. It made me wonder if BMK’s transition from this world to the next was as seamless and smooth as this.
My special thanks of gratitude to respected Sri. T V Gopalakrishnan, who always remembers to send me a good quality audio for my collection and this recording too is his contribution.

Thanks Murthi sir........I had missed this program................Balahamsa piece so fine......no one there now I can see who can touch and sing such kirtanas so fluently, so easily, so spontaneously................and the facing photo is carefully chosen......
the first varnam record (national program of music) i did recorded that program Sri Bala Murali Garu, Sri Mysore V Nagraj on violin and Sri Srimushnam rajaram on mridangam played as superb support accompanying artists. that day last English news mrs Benazir Bhutto election came as continuation of this legend program continued a little over for few seconds.
once in a while I do listen to his program if I am disturbed with stress will hv sound sleep.

why I mentioned news item was, that also got recorded, i mean....
the first varnam.and third kanada raga his own composition r part of that national programme. I am recollecting decades back program of a great legend.

Thanks Mr. Murthy. I am happy to hear this homage from AIR. It was AIR that opened the innovative stint of BMK, while he was at Vijayawada. They had opened a special division called 'Bhaktiranjani', and he was the Producer. Unfortunately. Of late we have not been tuning and hearing radio. It is all TV., TV and TV only. Are you getting Music at 8 15 am slot in Madras A these days? I am very thankful to you, Mr. Murthy for uploading so many items of this Great Musician whom we had the privilege to hear live for nearly 50 years and his sudden exit has created a void that cannot be filled by any other musician. Your uploads are a big solace. Do continue to do them. God bless you.

Recently, I listened to recordings of BMK by The Bhavan, London. My joy overwhelmed, but soon by melancholy. In the world of Carnatic, much music is survived by noise Only. Very rarely, we have state of art recording system. Hope, atleast in near future it will be cured.
The main objective of this channel is " music for posterity" and in a effort to pursue that, an attempt has made to restore and remaster old live concerts of Dr. M Balamuralikrihna.
You can browse through the channel at your convenience to listen to some of the restored recordings of yore.

*Utterly brilliant*! I have heard every one of these songs many times over. no two renditions are the same! Nor are the ālāpanās. The segue from mānasa sanchara ré to the tillāna was simply beautiful. This is perhaps my most favorite upload by Śrī Sreenivasa Murthy.

@@SreenivasaMurthy garu, there maybe some confusion here. I suspect Varaprasad garu is referring to a composition on Mangalampalli Balamurali garu's guru, Sri Parupalli Ramakrishnayya Pantulu garu. And there is a song about the musical lineage, down from Sri Tyagaraja himself.

Sreenivasa Murthy sir! I have heard that. However, seems that this version is of better standard and voice nearly matches his live voice and would best fit for preserving. NP, still. Kaanada that he has elaborated in this concert seems to be flawless and unparalleled. Outcome of Divine and melodious mood of Shree Bmk. Salutations for your efforts!
