    Unarguably the best video I've watched explaining fine art photography and it's main concepts. Sorry for coming across this 1 year late 🙏🏿 😊

      Isn't that one of the most incredible things in photography, that independent of how long we are in already, there is always anything new we can learn? 😉
      Merry Christmas and nice greetings,

    Great video Christian and wonderful tips you shared. It is so funny when I was in Venice in 2012 I was getting similar shots. It was a magic experience there. Loved all the shots you used as examples throughout this video. Thank you for sharing my friend, great work 👍🙏

      Hi Adrian, thank you my friend! Venice is a fantastic place and to be honest: when I'm photographing there, it feels so much more like landscape photography than cityscapes or architecture :)

    Thanks you Christian for a good video.
    Do you recommends to invent (find) the name of photo before take it ? Obviously "reverse process". This process lead us to find the purpose of photography (image) before take it. And so this will naturally lead to better photo with an idea! Do you it in this way ?

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  Рік тому +1

      Hi Marek, thanks a lot, my friend 😊 Interesting question. The purpose it really important when it comes down to fine art photography. So, I definitely know the narrative of my photos before I expose. Sometimes I also know the image title already out in the field, but I think it is also an important process to take time afterwards, for finding the right words, which support what the image is saying. So many different words can express the same, but with a subtle different meaning or with evoking subtle different emotions. So, I would not say you'd need the image title already when you are out in the field. But it is a good idea to know about the story.
      But image titles and purpose is in general a quite big topic. Maybe I should make a video about that to go more in detail. I will think about that 😉
      Merry Christmas,
      Christian

    Great video, thanks for sharing. It's interesting how I switch between these different modes of photography without much thought. It's automatic. But I love how you break it down. Good job!

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  3 роки тому

      Hi Yuri, there is nothing wrong with "switching" between them automatically. I get just often the question how far it is possible to go with editing and how realistic a fine art photograph has to be. There it is good to know about these base concepts, it answers already a lot of questions :)
      Thanks a lot and nice greetings from Austria,
      Christian

      @@christian.irmler Yes, I know what you mean about that question of editing vs fine art. In fact, just yesterday I observed a discussion about this on Facebook. My take is: edit to your heart's fancy, in the same way a painter would take creative liberties with his work :-) BUT... don't call it photojournalism or realism. Those styles need little to no editing at all, AND you should disclose what edits were done.
      But for the more creative styles, you should go as far as you need in order to convey the emotions you are trying to evoke.
      Greetings from Dominica! Cheers.

    What is fine art? Is there a specified requirement or just some thing photographer decide to when they sell a image? My goal is to create art using my cameras and I study art to be able to to that. But I'm an Engineer and not an artist

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  Рік тому +1

      Hi Thomas, creating art doesn't have much to do with selling prints, to be honest. This would have more to do with building a business than with art :) I made a video where I mentioned the ingredients of getting art: ua-cam.com/video/SaMqM6FiFWo/v-deo.html
      And oh yes, there is a big difference in the way of thinking between engineers and artists. I'm also an engineer, so I know so well what you mean :) It's possible to be an artist, but we definitely have the change the way of thinking like an engineer when creating art :)
      I made a video exactly about that, how the way of thinking improves our photography: ua-cam.com/video/iYM1Q1fLg34/v-deo.html
      Nice greetings,

      @@christian.irmler Thank you for your feedback. I will check the Videos. Some professional photographers don't acknowledge Fine art at all. Some more "arty" photographer talk about a mind set make it art and not the picture.

    What camera do you have?

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  3 роки тому

      Hi Conan, a black one :) To be honest, I don't put all too much focus on gear, as it is not that important for getting great photographs. Some of the photos you've seen in this video were taken with my Sony A7rIV, some with my A6500 and some even just with one of my A6000. Even with the A6000 I got already lots of photographs I sold as A2 prints. Important for me is that my gear is relieable, everything else is done by composition, light and importantly - the story :)
      But gear is not absolutely unimportant, there are reasons why I decide for a camera or for lenses. Just if you are interested, here my thoughts about the best possible camera for my landscape photography: ua-cam.com/video/vC4l22IW9e8/v-deo.html
      Nice greetings,

    Very interesting. Even with something of an arts background, I’m not sure how old-school terms like Impressionism, expressionism, or surrealism apply to this work. (As always, the problem of using language to describe abstract visual concepts that primarily evoke feelings, not words.) But I certainly appreciate the work itself, along with your descriptions of how you edited the photos to achieve the look you were going for, and am definitely intrigued to see more. Subscribed.

    • @christian.irmler
      @christian.irmler  2 роки тому

      Hi Michael, yes we have definitely to be careful when we describe abstract concepts in art with words. Basically, there is no right or wrong. This is just a base concept I use for my fine art photography and I have to say, it works pretty good for me.
      A warm welcome to my channel, my friend! There will definitely come more about art, emotions, creativity and so on, but also a lot of pertinent photography related videos and outdoor vlogs. I hope you'll enjoy my content ;)

    this is an amazingly informative video
    I've been taking photos for about 5 years at an amateur level, but I've always wanted to know what style I fit in
    I'm able to say now that my photos fit in all of these categories
    still looking to learn street photography and self portraits soon, but so happy that I wasn't just taking random shots, they all do have a common theme
    thank you 🤍
