In this video, I answer our subscribers questions about the trials and tribulations of moving to France after Brexit. But despite all the woes, it has definitely been worth it.
We left the UK to live in rural France in 2023.
And we did so with the help of channel 4's tv show A Place in the Sun which is due to air sometime this year...kind of a catchy lyric isn't it? well watch to the end.
We decided that we had had enough of living in England, the UK, sold everything, cashed in our pensions and moved with our two children to the Charente region of rural France.
Well that was nine months ago and in that time we have dealt with some issues believe you me. Condemned electrics that we had to sort, a condemned log burner, a condemned chimney, a leaking roof, a none conforming boss tank, and trip to the A&E (Emergency room) when our puppy scratched our sons eye and he needed stitches.
We have put our two children into the French school system, have started to renovate our house, we have finished the attic and almost finished the bathroom.
This video begins at the very start, when we were in England. We explain about the post brexit visa process and much much more. Our channel has over 250 videos which pretty much documents everyday of our lives for the past 18 months. Our videos are educational, informative but most of all fun.
Oh, and to put everything out there, I was medically retired from the Police due to being diagnosed to complex PTSD due to psychological trauma within the military and Policing. My videos also talk about mental health, anxiety, catastrophising and mens mental health in general. I had done a video on this too

Notaires charge a percentage of the sale price of the house. Notaires differ in charges but I think we paid 7%

That is quite the interesting coincidence that you had to move to France to see that house and it would be so close to where you live now. Strange how things like that happen. How how I hate weeding, it is just a tedious job. You have to start somewhere when trying to charm someone. So getting a bit of a laugh from her is a good first step for sure. How long will Ben and his wife be staying? I will be exciting to have them visit I'm sure. Good video as always my friend. Laterz!

Hi Rob. Just going to your weed problem one of the other channels (not sure which) said to mix 1 part salt and 3 parts boiling water. Spray on the weeds and within a few days they die off. I have done it and they haven’t grown back in that area. The thing you must be careful of is not getting on your plants or in the veggie garden as I believe nothing will grow there again.
I missed the ear injury entirely..even went back through the video and still didn’t see it!! Age and poor eyesight! But….show me weeds in a manicured area and I’m on it! That’s how my driveway looks even after new stone down. Weeds and grass where they shouldn’t be! I’m begging my husband for a bulldozer to come in and dig the darn things out! Hi Rob, the shovel weeding method has brought a lot of soil to the surface. 😢 Great for little weed seeds to germinate. 😢 Google the vinegar weedkiller recipe. That might slow them down for a while. 😊

Yes industrial strength vinegar and adding salt is optional. Works every time!! Get yourself a pump sprayer with a wand and zap them all!

After the Marie, the commendant of the Decheterie is the one you need to keep on side. If you have any contraband then I suggest you wait for some drama or a newbie turn up down the other end of the dump, when they run over launch your contraband into the Tout venant or similar.
Shame you didnt get any more useable footage of the house, looks amazing.

Evening ive missed one will check it out later had what i would call first day of summer no rain , and spent the day at Avebury stone circle , I loved the way the lone chicken was checking out what you were doing , picking or pecking out bugs and odd worm i guess ,so your picking up the french , I think part of learning the language is having the confidence to try it out , and hope you dont sound silly thats what i worry about 😊,wow your friends dads house was really out in the middle of nowhere ❤❤

Those weeds would drive me absolutely insane, but i have seen on another channel called chateau life, hes got gravel and he uses a natural weed killer which seems to work really well, sorry I don't know what it consists of😂 if it was something you and Lisa was interested in👍

My ear? I was jacking up the lawn mower (didn’t film it) it slipped and fell onto my ear. It was bloody painful and thanks for asking lol

Hi Rob. We have a driveway with white stones. My husband mixes a solution 4 parts white vinegar to 1part water, 1 ounce dish soap. They will turn brown and easy to pull out. To be honest tho, we’ve given up on getting rid of weeds, too time consuming 😅. Shame about the lost footage. Hope you can do it again sometime. Be well❤❤❤
