In Java there are two types of objects which are like talisman or amulets, but don't really use the same distinction. The first is an object called a jimat, although these can be quiet elaborate, their origin is in natural objects like shells and stones. Often such objects are carried on the person (a stone within a ring being a specific example), although may be placed in the house or the office. Generally these need activating or reactivating by the application of essential oils. The second is a wafak (wafaq) which will typically include doas (duas, prayers) in Arabic and magic squares (taweez), either with Arab numerals or letters. Often these doas are direct quotes from al-Quran and the squares simply refer to a particular desired outcome. Messianic Muslims claim (and possibly this is a self-fulfilling prophecy) that the quotes are purposely misspelt, or include additional information, and that the squares spell out the names of Jin(n)s. Occasionally one sees wafak written in the old Javanese script, possibly mixed with Arabic script, this may be actual Arabic or Javanese, as the old script was replaced by Arab, prior to adopting Latin script. Again wafak may be held on the person, such as a key ring, or placed around the house, especially above doors. Wafak used above doors are most likely for protection and therefore most closely fit the western definition of amulet.

I've had a lot of success with making a talisman from an experience that happened a couple hours prior, when I felt a feeling dawn on me that I just had to capture and remember. It was very basic, and a bit non-traditional in terms of making it, though I still feel so much joy when I look at it and it's the first one I've created. I love it. Now that I think about it, maybe it's just tied to that memory, and a charged piece of material rather than a full talisman. Awesome little thing either way. Thanks for sharing this info, as always!

As an elderly clergyman on fixed stipend, I probably can't become a financial supporter, but I want to say I greatly appreciate the work you have done and are doing. I was tickled to see how similar our respective libraries are, though I had to leave behind much of the 'esoterica' I had acquired, and give that shelf space over to Buddhist arcana of one sort or another. You've identified yourself as a teacher, which is understandable, but it strikes me that you and your family might be supported by persons wanting to study esoterica, with you as teacher. Perhaps you're doing that already, but I find I'm imagining you teaching English and French, there in Poland...

Came upon your channel a few days ago and been watching them . I've been learning a lot from you and like your style of teaching. Today I subscribed... Your videos are great.
I feel that most talismans draw their power from the practitioners belief and can be somthing as simple as lucky underwear, but the basic idea is to connect the Talisman to belief which can be reinforced by ritual or happenstance like in the case of lucky underwear, where one day of luck leads to belief in their power, tradition is nice and can feel more grounded but you can make a talisman however you want the main component is your belief in it.
As always, a wealth of info! Soo many things to learn at such an advanced age in my life!! But in a few months I will be retired and will have more time to learn and grow!
I think a good thing could be to write, on the reverse face, the date, the day and the hour it was made. Nice video by the way, I've never made a talisman in the traditional way, but I think I will put my hands on that. Really like this video, this is a good channel, subscribed.

Talisman is a souvenir to bring that energy or feeling you had when you got it with the intention of that. An amulet is similar but it works in a way to remind you of a time or place in your life that you overcame kind of like the chips they hand out at NA & AA meetings. We are the masters of our own reality !
I suggest that the book Liber Sigillum published by Avalonia will be found to be useful... It goes into some depth about, not only how to create a talisman, but it also considers the astrology involved for the working to be successful. This is something that is often over looked and should be taken into consideration. The work also gives clear rituals for each planetary workings with talismans that were used by a coven on the welsh border UK some 50 years ago.... This is the work that you need if you are interested in talismanic magic.
historically though we know amulet and talisman as terms were used interchangeably and without any actual distinct definition (Drs Peterson/Skinner/etc) but this didn't stop the order i was trained in from teaching and practicing to great results that talismans have an end date (and are usually destroyed) while amulets may be used and drawn on for affect forever. I had a lunar amulet I'd draw from in healing to absurd results (like people physically reacting exactly when I mentally said the amulet's "name" and felt it flow through me) without any physical contact on who was being healed...as always, gratis. rc

Ah. So the "mandala amulet" I made is actually a talisman, as it's drawing energy to me from the point where Fenrir broke Gliphnir. It's been a button I made at the library designed in Adobe Illustrator.
@Foolish Fish I saw "The Key of Solomon [Greater Key]" in the video. However, which version of this Greater Key? I got the JH Peterson's edition (the same one from this video), but...kind of fall short on my expectations, regarding to having more on Talismanic imagery in the book. (And I should also add that I also have another version, via PDF, that might have more of these talismanic imagery [because it's from a different Solomonic manuscript]) (And in my personal opinion, I think it would have been more wondrous if Mr. Peterson did hire a graphic artist-designer to redraw the talisman figures. Without including the actual manuscript, that is "scanned" and "published" along with the modern variant. And actually add those talismanic imagery, from different Clavicula manuscripts, to his own version.)

Hello, I am a great admirer of your videos and have already discovered a lot of interesting books. I wonder with which writing utensil the talisman should be made. Does it matter or should it be ink? Is it possible to use pencil and pen? Should everything be the same color?
May i ask, isnt it kind of a horrible idea to follow the lesser and greater keys of solomon? It involves dealings with high demons... Kinda sounds like a bad move personally.

I haven't had time to go through all your videos, so I may be overlooking something obvious, but it's clear to me that you could create a very helpful syllabus/curriculum etc., with suggested readings and exercises etc. Do you have such a thing? Ok so I wonder, and I can't be the only one, what do you call something that is meant to ward off against ....xyz.... but also attract ....xyz.... ? Or maybe not even such a clear distinction. For example, I ordered a mjollnir from a blacksmith, it's not ready yet, but I asked to have rune algiz on the front and dagaz on the back. Two different things. What do you call it if something is meant to do multiple things, in some cases opposite things such as drive away and attract.... ?

Best to avoid demonologists (from experience); research a deity who's known for this role; follow the steps to engage with them and express gratitude, stay upbeat. Key is rigorous protection daily, mudra and mantra to send the attachments away.

@@josephwarres4751 oops, just lost my reply. Hope you don't mind me answering here. Forgive the detail. Google and YT are your friend. Practice protection daily. I suggest you think about what pantheon or magic school you like and look for the deity/ies known for protection, banishing, effectiveness etc. A name or quality might come to you while you meditate. When you find one that suits you, read up on them; look for the ritual that approaches them and serves them. Draw one tarot card to confirm. Then a couple more at the end of your altar time, to see if there's an outcome. It seems a slow process but you can get a focus through a sigil at the point of approach. So you can see it's an interactive process and takes attention, relaxed attention. You might like to maintain the altar for a number of days, with offerings. I'm eclectic, but the deity that comes through means business. Express your gratitude but don't make promises you can't keep. MUDRA and MANTRA: Mudra are hand positions with meaning and power; mantra is like affirmations while focusing on the one you ask for help. Visualisation is seriously helpful. The stronger you become as a result of proactive practice the more resilient you'll be. It's a jungle out there! Dion Fortune's book on Psychic Protection was my starting point and keep a notebook, read/research a lot, steadily and on track. All the best to you on this adventure.

Help. I was trying to elaborate a talisman for gambling and I found that both the Sun and Jupiter share the characteristics of wealth and riches. Also, according to Stephen Skinners techniques of high magick, Mercury is the planet force for gambling. So I really can’t tell which planet force is the ideal for a gambling talisman. Any ideas foolish fish?
Think of Jupiter for wealth, so your savings account, and mercury for income, so your current account. Sun is for health in general, and the idea of biological growth, and gold. so related, but not necessarily directly "money".
where do i even start with magick? and is there different typer (not black and white) but like I heard the word "ceremonial" so is that a type or is that the magick itself ps: I have philosophical and spiritual background. specifically large interests in metaphysics and epistemology
Ceremonial magic is a type of high magic that uses "a wide variety of long, elaborate, and complex rituals of magic. The works included are characterized by ceremony and a myriad of necessary accessories to aid the practitioner.(Wikipedia article) -- it is based on Hermeticism and Western esotericism. Sounds like it could be your thing.

historically though we know amulet and talisman as terms were used interchangeably and without any actual distinct definition (Drs Peterson/Skinner/etc) but this didn't stop the order i was trained in from teaching and practicing to great results that talismans have an end date (and are usually destroyed) while amulets may be used and drawn on for affect forever. I had a lunar amulet I'd draw from in healing to absurd results (like people physically reacting exactly when I mentally said the amulet's "name" and felt it flow through me) without any physical contact on who was being healed...as always, gratis. rc

Ah. So the "mandala amulet" I made is actually a talisman, as it's drawing energy to me from the point where Fenrir broke Gliphnir.

I got the JH Peterson's edition (the same one from this video), but...kind of fall short on my expectations, regarding to having more on Talismanic imagery in the book.
(And I should also add that I also have another version, via PDF, that might have more of these talismanic imagery [because it's from a different Solomonic manuscript])
(And in my personal opinion, I think it would have been more wondrous if Mr. Peterson did hire a graphic artist-designer to redraw the talisman figures. Without including the actual manuscript, that is "scanned" and "published" along with the modern variant. And actually add those talismanic imagery, from different Clavicula manuscripts, to his own version.)

Can a Talisman be used as protection and good luck?
May i ask, isnt it kind of a horrible idea to follow the lesser and greater keys of solomon? It involves dealings with high demons... Kinda sounds like a bad move personally.

The things that the talisman attract and that the amulet deflect should be different if course, but other than that, you should be fine! 😊

Best to avoid demonologists (from experience); research a deity who's known for this role; follow the steps to engage with them and express gratitude, stay upbeat. Key is rigorous protection daily, mudra and mantra to send the attachments away.

@@josephwarres4751 oops, just lost my reply. Hope you don't mind me answering here. Forgive the detail. Google and YT are your friend. Practice protection daily. I suggest you think about what pantheon or magic school you like and look for the deity/ies known for protection, banishing, effectiveness etc. A name or quality might come to you while you meditate. When you find one that suits you, read up on them; look for the ritual that approaches them and serves them. Draw one tarot card to confirm. Then a couple more at the end of your altar time, to see if there's an outcome. It seems a slow process but you can get a focus through a sigil at the point of approach. So you can see it's an interactive process and takes attention, relaxed attention. You might like to maintain the altar for a number of days, with offerings. I'm eclectic, but the deity that comes through means business. Express your gratitude but don't make promises you can't keep. MUDRA and MANTRA: Mudra are hand positions with meaning and power; mantra is like affirmations while focusing on the one you ask for help. Visualisation is seriously helpful. The stronger you become as a result of proactive practice the more resilient you'll be. It's a jungle out there! Dion Fortune's book on Psychic Protection was my starting point and keep a notebook, read/research a lot, steadily and on track. All the best to you on this adventure.

Help. I was trying to elaborate a talisman for gambling and I found that both the Sun and Jupiter share the characteristics of wealth and riches. Also, according to Stephen Skinners techniques of high magick, Mercury is the planet force for gambling. So I really can’t tell which planet force is the ideal for a gambling talisman. Any ideas foolish fish?
Think of Jupiter for wealth, so your savings account, and mercury for income, so your current account. Sun is for health in general, and the idea of biological growth, and gold. so related, but not necessarily directly "money".
Mercury is also related to numbers and communication and tricks, so gambling is a good fit.
where do i even start with magick? and is there different typer (not black and white) but like I heard the word "ceremonial" so is that a type or is that the magick itself

Ceremonial magic is a type of high magic that uses "a wide variety of long, elaborate, and complex rituals of magic. The works included are characterized by ceremony and a myriad of necessary accessories to aid the practitioner.(Wikipedia article) -- it is based on Hermeticism and Western esotericism. Sounds like it could be your thing.
