2020 Update. Vaer added AR coating to the sapphire crystal since this video aired. I bought one C5 and one S5 model. These are excellent watches. Besides the use of great materials and components both of my Vaers hit the second marks on the chapter rings. That is always my biggest concern about quartz movements. I have plenty of automatics but I find myself grabbing one of my Vaers more often since they are always running and are keeping time to within a couple seconds a week or so. I never thought my Hamiltons would spend so much time off my wrist. After owning two of these watches I have zero complaints. These are bulletproof tool/field watches from an American company at a fair and reasonable price.

@@mikeyle119 gotcha. As far as I know Vaer doesn't do that, but I can't speak for other channels experiences with them. Now Vaer has had some changes since this video. They now have a line of cheaper Chinese assembled watches, but they still have a line of American assembled ones as well. Although I don't know if they are still assembling them in LA or if they are now done in Arizona.
One of the best, most informative general reviews I have seen. I like the night glow comparisons across a number of watch brands, and the fact that the reviewer had done some homework. I just ordered the Vaer C-5, black-face with 2-straps. It's currently on a several week back-order. I don't mind the wait. Nicely done!

Am a transplanted CA resident, will always consider myself such, in-spite of being north of you. You can take a CA resident out of state but you are still a transplant. Your company shows considerable promise, would like to see an automatic though. LA is a crazy happening unmatched.
I have this exact watch, bought used (barely) so the value was outstanding. I love this model! Considering I own far more expensive autos, this may be a surprise but I really enjoy wearing it now and then. If you're looking for this style of a watch and don't want the expense or hassle of an auto - or just to complement your collection, I say go for it.
I believe you are the first reviewer on youtube to review this watch including the excellent lume shots. Lume is the deal maker or breaker for me in a field watch. 100m wr is something I really prize in this category. Well done, and thanks for doing it with such care.
Native of California here! So cool to know you're from SoCal too! Thanks for introducing this brand. Going to check out their catalog. I definitely enjoy your taste in timepieces. Looking forward to the next vid!
I have been waiting for someone to review a Vaer. Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly review it. I am impressed by the lume. I really like their leather straps also. The fact that it's assembled in America means they have good quality control over their product and the owners are able to be there to oversee the production versus if it was assembled overseas. Sure, it adds to the price but it gives a greater assurance in the quality of the product.
I was like doing the lume comparison. It's the best way to see what it is like. I really should pick a few watches to use as standards. Pick a watch to represent bad, ok, good and excellent lume.
Really interested in this. My current field watch is an outstanding Archimede. I love it and have had zero issues with it, but I'd really prefer a cheaper quartz for playing around the home with my kids and roughing around inside and outside with my dogs. Love my automatic watches, but I'm coming to the conclusion that the toughness and simplicity of quartz is better suited for a field watch role. After looking for a field watch for well over a year online, this is one of my favorites I'm considering. Thanks for a great review.
I enjoy both automatic and quartz movements and when I was looking to get a new quartz field watch I almost pulled the trigger on the Vaer but opted for a Bertucci in the end. Just felt like I got more for the same price point with the Bertucci. Looking forward for Vaer's automatic options in the future. Really enjoyed the video, RT, as usual.
That... is an excellent question. One I didn't even think about. I can't find any pictures of it, so I'd just be guessing. Although looking at it, I think it does only have lume on the hands.
True. I was looking at the light version, someone pointed out that it may not have lume on the dial. Which would be disappointing. Although the lume on the dial wasn't near as good as the hands.
@@RelativeTime I heard somewhere that Vaer is in the process of upgrading their lume across the board, but that won't help on a face which has no lume for design/aesthetic reasons.
I've been looking forward to this video all week and it didn't disappoint. Another great detailed review. I love so much of this watch. I'm a sucker for field watches and railroad tracks so of course I was intrigued. Add saphire and horween and I'm almost hooked. But there was one thing that kept bugging me. I could forgive it for being quartz if the second hand hit the markers. It's all I could see. 🙁
It's close, but not quite. With quartz, it's always going to be luck of the draw. Same with the accuracy of an auto movement. Although on more expensive quartz watches, I am more critical and picky on that point. One reason I like the idea of the Seiko VH31 movements, 4 ticks per second makes it harder to notice any misalignment.
Found out about Vaer the same way you did. Their design caught my eye immediately. I am interested in getting this Heritage model, but I am very torn between the cream or the black dial. I was born and raised in Southern California, so the fact that the assembly is done in LA is something that resonates well with me. Wish I would have found out about this company awhile ago. I just so happen to be in the market for an everyday watch. A quick grab and go watch. The design is very well done. I love the side shots of the lugs. Thanks for the video. Keep it up! Liked and subbed.
Thanks and welcome. I really like Vaer, and I noticed that they have some new quartz models too. They look similar to their new autos. Another company that might be worth checking out is Nodus. Bit more expensive, but they are based out of and assemble everything in LA as well.
Ooooh damn, I was hoping that sick intro was longer! The tune playing and the vibes it set, despite how short it last, gave me the feeling it was out to build up a ton of hype and end with a bang... To start off the video I could almost picture something Daft Punk-like, along the lines of Derezzed in the build up and pumping tempo.
Thanks! It's always hard to decide how long to make an intro. You don't want it too short, but too long and people lose interest and just click though it.
I just ordered one. Assembled in the U.S.A., looks like a Hamilton, and 100 meters water resistant. Did I mention half the price of a Hamilton? Great Video, Dude !
Great review as always mate. Watch isn't really for me. You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the USA assembled. Not being from USA it doesn't speak to me. Plus I'm not a quartz person (would rather just wear digital if it's not automatic) and I've never really liked numbers on dials. Always preferred indices. But all I've mentioned are personal choices. The watch looks solid albeit I do think it's a little overpriced. But the American assembly will no doubt attract some people more possibly justifying the price. Enjoy ⌚
Very nice contrast, and gives it a fantastic look. Although that glossy black with sapphire is a pain to film. Likes to show every smudge and piece of dust.
Another excellent review, Shane. It seems the US is really becoming a serious player in the watch world. I already own watches from Raven, Hemel and Bernhardt, all a pleasure to own. Looks like I may need to add Vaer to the list!
I haven't heard of Raven. I'll have to give them a look. I was reading about some company in Arizona that is making quartz movements now. I think they were calling them Ameri-Quartz.
I bought the Raven Venture model, not cheap, I was being a bit rash tbh, but it’s probably my only watch purchase which turned out so much better than I hoped. Build quality, fit and finish, time-keeping all excellent. It’s been my daily wearer for a year, and it still looks brand new - not a mark on it. I’ll check out Ameri-quartz too! Cheers Shane, thx for your hard work!
The hardest part here to adapt to is the humidity in the Summer. Although I also lived in Wisoncon for a few years. I'd rather have sticky summers, then winters without end.
When it comes to quartz field watches, the one to beat is the Seiko SNE095. Solar, amazing lume, great finishing, 100m, day and date, $90. It's become my go to ever since the wife bought it for Christmas! I do like the Vaer's lume and red second hand.
I came close to buying a Chandler once. Heck, I may still! Good looking watch for sure, but the Seiko costs less, has better water resistance, better lume (I think), better looks (IMHO), and better crystal. Plus, my wife bought me the Seiko, so it's still the one to beat :) By the way, I'd have gone with the Citizen BM8180-03E over the Seiko if the hands weren't skeletonized.
That's a tricky question. Kind of depends on what you prefer, they are very different. The Bertucci is Titanium (which is a plus). The case is bigger and bulkier, but I think it's going to be tougher. It seems to be built like a tank. But I don't think it looks near as good, and you can only use Nato or single pass straps. As it has integrated lugs. So if your doing primarily outdoor activities, the Bertucchi is probably better. But if you want something not quite as tough but, but looks good enough to wear in an office or out to dinner. Then Vaer is your better bet.
I agree, I think this Heritage is my favorite of their line. And from what I see, the second hand hits the marks pretty well. Could replace my Beetucci.
Wow. Thanks for showing us such a cool micro brand. I definitely am going to pick up a field black. My only criticism is that the date window seems to unnecessarily cut into the three. Maybe that’s where it had to be because of the movement requirements, but it’s just a little bothersome.
Vaer Heritage Dark has arrived, but NO COOKIES !!! LOVING the watch though. It is everything Vaer says it is. This could make someone a one watch collection. Unfortunately, I am a very shallow and greedy man, one watch just will not due ! Oh, well...
This looks like a very nice watch. Very clean design should be an attractive addition to anyone in need of respectable quartz watch. I like the “made in America” heritage of the Vaer brand. Interesting, informative video. Good job! Keep em coming...
The AR coating is only on the Dive models, not the C5. Just received my C5 Heritage today. I was hesitant with the price it is in, ie, very inexpensive. I ordered mine with the Horween 2 piece strap. I am Very Impressed. This is one of the least expensive watches I own other then some basic G shocks. The weight feels right for the model, not "toy" light, and not artificially heavy. Quality seems Great especially for the price. That's not to say it's "nice for a 200 dollar watch". It's just a Nice watch. Adjustments are precise, crown screws in and out smoothly, seconds hand hits all the marks....and I'll just say the LUME is Seiko Good....which means Excellent. Great attention to detail on the case, and a Nice Sapphire Crystal. Of course being Quartz, it's a Great "Grab and Go"....I see myself wearing this watch a lot, probably be a daily grab. The 100 meter water resistance is a Definite Bonus. The 2 year Warranty isn't too shabby either. I'll just say I'm IMPRESSED.... Even with the added Horween strap, and the slicone strap, shipping and tracking, with the discount was like 220 to my door.... I have spent more in the past and have gotten LESS many times..... Mine will be a Keeper........ Thanks for the Review, it's what pushed me to buy this watch...
They really are great watches! Glad I could help. I've actually been thinking about taking a look at another Vaer soon. Just to check out the new versions with the Ameriquartz movement.
@@RelativeTime WELL, As I look at it again today....The seconds hands Hit pretty much on mark from 12 to 6, and then are off my 1/2 to 3/4 of a tick from 6 to 12. While I was really Stoked, this just totally sucks for me. I emailed them, and they replied it was "Acceptable"..........LOL......Mine is going Bye Bye......I can wear my 50 dollar Casio Diver with Screw down crown and 200 meter water resistance, instead....it hits the marks 100%. MDV-106
@@eatmelily Strange that it's that inconsistent. Wonder if the dial is rotated inside. Does you know if it has a Ronda or the new ameriquartz movement? Second-hand alignment on quartz is a tricky subject, and a lot of it is just luck of the draw even with Casio and Citizen. I've had some that are perfectly lined up, and a few that are completely off. Regardless of that, once you see it, once it bugs you, that's pretty much it with any watch.
@@RelativeTime It is a fresh one, I just got it this week, off of Pre order........It's the USA assembly one, I thought it was the Rhonda, nothing that says otherwise. It is pretty much spot on like I said from 12 to almost 6, starts getting off a little by 4, and is almost a whole tick off by 10 or 11. I was going to video it, but figured no one was interested. I contacted Vaer, and Ryan replied with the "company speel". saying how it was "Ok", and that it did effect the time keeping, yeah yeah, I know that....It's just Annoying as heck. He gave me the "Hand assembled" would not be dead on like a Mass produced, watch. May be not, but I have some OLD Quartz watches that are perfect on the marks, from a 15 year old 80 dollar Seiko, to my 50 dollar Casio MDV........ They weren't even interested in doing anything about it.... I honestly Really like the watch, but it's just hard for me to wear now... I had thought about getting one of the new Dive Autos. But even though, I know they would be fine being an auto, I have just lost interest in the Brand.....I'm sure the C5 Heritage will be a good watch for someone that is not the Watchaholic I am....as a collector of over 50 years, I'm pretty into it....I guess I'll just go back to wearing my Bulova Quartz Snorkel....with the 214mgz, or whatever it is, LOL....That thing is about 1 or 2 seconds a year...and Yes, it hits the marks all the way around...
Problem Solved....OK so Much Watching, pun intended .....I have found MY problem....I would ask that Any of you that have the American Assembly Heritage, check your dial....On this model, the American assembly script on the new models at the bottom of the dial is the Culprit. and it results in the left side Minute and Second hand being off, because the minute marks, and the Minute Dot, at the 7 is off center, to the left of the base of the 7. It is moved forward, towards the top to the 12 just a hair, and every mark after that is off. If you set your Minute hand Centered exactly on the minute mark, when it gets to the minute mark, it will be SHORT....and take about 10 seconds of the seconds hand before the minute hand is centered...They obviously did the 12, 3, 6, and 9 first...that push of the dot at 7 is plainly visible it is off..once at 12, both Minute and Second hand align perfectly from 12 to 6 where it again is off.......Mystery found. The addition of the American Assembly script has forced that dot slightly off at the 7. If the dot was placed at the approbate spot, it would be too close to the A in American, aesthetically ...so the sacrifice are a second and minute hand that is off on the left side of the dial......It's probably fine on models without that script....Is it acceptable on a 130 dollar watch, sure....You will be better served to buy the cheaper model, and a better strap, instead of spending the extra 40 bucks on the upper model....
I'm not from the US (I'm in the UK) but I see the 'American Assembly' thing as a positive - It's quite 'exotic' and a nice change from Swiss, Chinese made etc. I've just ordered a Heritage Dark. Looking forward to getting it. :-)
Hi Alex - my watch arrived today (in line with quoted delivery dates from Vaer) I didn't have to pay any import taxes (Just lucky?) and it came via FedEx. Watch is great. Very nicely finished and I seem to have three ratter than 2 straps! Very pleased with it. (Vaer Heritage Dark) $180 inc shipping
Right on dude, as always another great review. I really like this Vaer. Pity it doesn't come in a 42 mm. By the way, I am from Pasadena. Now I live and work in Santa Barbara))))
Actually, the only thing I like more here than a classic victorinox is the sapphire. I love the 90's field watches like the Renegade ., and I miss the 38mm size.
Price with quartz is always tricky. Partially because of so many cheap ones that look good, but aren't made that well. Plus with a Microbrand the price will always be higher. They don't have the volume to compete with bigger companies. Which is why I mentioned looking at the Timex's made of Steel as a reference. I think all of them are have MSRP over $100.
That's something I forgot to mention. It even includes if the watch fails while in water. Assuming it was under normal use. Which is actually quite nice.
Are Vaer working on making an Inhouse movement ?...……...or going the Seiko Route ? Inhouse would undoubtedly raise the price of the watch......….CONSIDERABLY...….........however...……….they really have something great going on here. I hope they offer an inhouse movement at some point in the future.
That would be interesting, but I think that's way far off. Not to mention raise the price way high. I think Ginault does that. ginault.com/ Which is incredible for what they are doing, but the resulting price is much higher.
Not pursuing in house movements. They have indicated that the automatic will be available with two movement options, one miyota, and the other eta. The swiss movement watch will cost a bit more, naturally.
I think you might have nailed the conclusion that this could be the "one" watch that does everything. After culling my herd of higher-end automatics, I think I've come full circle, wanting just a good-looking , all around quartz just because I'm sick of winding and setting the time/date for these overpriced pieces.
There is a lot to be said for simplicity. It's like a manual vs auto transmission in a car. Manual is a better driving experience. But when you live in a big city and have to constantly deal with traffic (life), the convince of an auto can't be beaten.
honestly for swiss quartz i'd rather just go with tissot (in the same price range) and for quartz generally i'd even be just fine going cheaper into something like timex since if i'm keeping a quartz it's for utility not fashion and the possibility of damage means i'd like to keep price as low as possible... for me to be interested in this piece, I'd like to see more quality on the overall fit/finish of the watch, especially the hands and the dial which look very lacking (cheaper printed dial with hands that look almost toyish). it's not an unreasonable ask especially when you look at the automatics they're releasing which will retail for over 700 dollars but have the exact same fit/finish of the watches we're looking at today. the 440 dollar one will have a miyota movement in it that costs about 50-75 dollars, and again, just does not have the fit/finish to back it up... the increase in cost is paying the price of overhead for a microbrand.
Well, some of the cost your paying for is the US-based assembly in LA. Whether or not that means anything really depends on the person. And some of it is also in that Horween leather strap (if you order that one). Quite good, and easily worth $50ish on its own. I haven't seen much on their automatic piece. I think there is a signup page somewhere on their facebook, but they aren't doing a good job of advertising it. As for Tissot, it's just never really captured my interest. I've always been more interested in Hamilton, which is all part of the swatch family.
Hmmm this watch or maybe a Victorinox Infantry quartz. Specs and looks are similar, actually the Vic is a little cheaper, but this vaer has proper 20 mm lugs.
I suppose this is pretty squarely up against the Citizen Eco Drive field watch that one of my friends has been bashing about and failing to break for the last decade or so. BM8180-03E appears to be the current version. Pretty stiff competition, you'd think, unless the sapphire or the US assembly loom large in your list of priorities. Anyway ... like the legibility especially the minute track, but the slightly truncated "3" is weirdly disconcerting and the hands aren't much to my taste. Certainly looks like a practical proposition.
Haven't tried that Citizen. Had the Citizen Chandler Chrono for a little while. The fit and finish on this are much better, although you could balance that against eco-drive and never needing a battery.
It's an off-brand Chinese Super Engineer style one I got off eBay. There is a link in the description to it, and amazing it still works after all this time. I think they are about $30 and pretty good for that price. Take a bit to get to you though, especially these days.
That was a bit different for a watch I think, must be that california thing 😀 Looks rather multifunctional as you described. Besides swedish I speak fluent "drunkaneese" and my english is not half bad I would say. By the way, have you tried Cloudberry yet as you spoke about lingonberry.
Mine doesn't hit the second hand markers. Gravity causes a millimetre variation which I'm told it's due to the cheapness of the movement in this watch.
@@RelativeTime if you hold the watch vertically, the second hand lags on the way up, and hits the markers on the way down. There's play in the second hand.
@@RelativeTime Vaer have just stated publicly on their website that none of their quartz watches accurately hit the minute markers from all series. Only their automatic movement watches do.
@@fr0d0scious are you referring to the blog post they had? Quartz watches and aligned hands are always a tricky topic. It always seems to be a matter of chance with most brands.
@@RelativeTime no.. a response to a review. I think you need to say that by chance you received a rare example with a nicely aligned second hand. I for one feel mislead.
For the first look, I am thinking, it's a Timex 2.0 Not bad watch, with nice 100m WR and not bad lume (Vostok, you only need to do is add stronger lume!). It's lacking for 24h hand - like other watch with simply quartz movement. I don't need chrono on every quartz watch. I need something different than simply, cheap movement. :) IMHO - Casio Duro will be a little-little better choice :)
I'm not from the US and assembly matters to me for the sole reason of customer service, I have a very bad experience with a microbrand assembling in China.
@@RelativeTime Redux watch, it's an automatic titanium small diver (38mm) with different dial options. I backed them up since the kickstarter that was a very sketchy launch. Most of the backers received almost a year later the watch, a lot with problems in the movement (NH 35A) and asked them to pay for a return and receieving their watch not repaired. Customer service it's condesendent and for a long time was non existent with several personal swaps.
Now that is an awesome idea. I think right now they are moving very slowly and being very cautious with their designs. I think they have been working on their auto for some time trying to get it just right.
@@RelativeTime A little bit, I feel it cheapened the look. It's like buying a product with a American flag on it then, in small print it says "packed in the U.S."
Agreed it is, at this point, I have a small box with batteries in it. Although I'm not sure what water resistance most Swatches have. I thought I heard that most swatch stores will replace it for free. Although I've never really checked it out.
They are working on 2 new Automatics, one of which will have an ETA. Although they just sent out an email updating their auto projects. Evidently the price on ETA movements is highly volatile. They said the cost of the movement they have chosen has risen 40% since their last update. So they will have to increase the price from what they were planing. Might be one reason some are moving away from ETA. Lots of alternatives out there.
Im not from USA but I do appreciate another US watch brand getting out there, as the US has a great history in watch making. My beater is a Hamilton Khaki field watch, US-Swiss hybrid, really more Swiss with an American connection. Anyway, thank you for another interesting video☘
It really is. As well as a couple of Facebook groups. Although some of the Facebook groups can get overwhelming. Lots of brand owners on there contently posting.
I didn't notice the hour hand, but I did on the minute. Although it's not vibrating, as much as moving slowly. You see all sorts of things you never notice before when you zoom in at that magnification.
Yeah, this looks only good on a leather band, the engineer band looked weird with the big gap between the case and band. But yeah... Quartz... I'm trying to stay away from them nowadays. But I like the style... Have my eyes on Helm watches now. I'm a sucker for divers.. This Friday they launch the new Helm Komodo. I'm getting one..
That’s why I try to show on a variety of different straps / bands. Give you an idea of what to expect. I’m looking the Komodo too. I just sent them an email asking a few questions. The email I got this morning announcing the launch said something about they don’t recommend the canvas strap they made. So I was asking if they are still going to include it. I think I’ll be ordering the white dial with mint indices, not sure about the bezel yet.
I’ve had a Vaer Heritage for over a year. Would be a great watch if the second hand would hit the marks all the way around the dial instead of about half way. Please don’t feed us the spiel on the website that it’s difficult to do that. The Japanese don’t seem to have that problem. If not hitting the mark bothers you don’t buy a Vaer.
I think the Japanese are the best at this. Especially Citizen. Don't be fooled with Swiss though. I have owned Victorinox, Wenger, and Certina quartz models where the seconds hand was not hitting the indices.
I just hope this will not be another MVMT , I like to support micro brands but not the ones based in California because 9 times out of 10 they put their brand name on a Chinese product and multiply the price X20 ... btw the ronda movement cost about $15 online so it's ok but nothing special about it
Hopefully, their won't ever be another MVMT. My bigger issue with them was how they advertised, a little deceptive. The guys that founded it actually sold it off to Movado a few months ago. So they made out like bandits. Anyway, I don't think Vaer is like MVMT. They have been around a few years, but only a few models. Sounds like they have been painstakingly taking their time with the designs of each. Which for me, is a sign they really care about their product.
2020 Update. Vaer added AR coating to the sapphire crystal since this video aired. I bought one C5 and one S5 model. These are excellent watches. great review, great watch! Thank you! I'm exactly as you said will be looking at Vaer as a step up from Timex.
Exactly. Everyone needs a great quartz watch for when you need to grab something and go.
Just received my Heritage Dark - absolutely delighted with it!
Awesome. Glad you like it.
I believe you are the first reviewer on youtube to review this watch including the excellent lume shots. Lume is the deal maker or breaker for me in a field watch. 100m wr is something I really prize in this category. Well done, and thanks for doing it with such care.
Thanks. I think there have been a few other Vaer reviews, but not on this model. Jody @Justonemore watch recently did the field model.
That red second hand......Killer. I can't wait for the automatic!
I picked up one of Vaer's Field Hunter, and it's really great. Absolutely no regrets--I'll be wearing it for a long while.
I'm still impressed with the finishing on the case. Very nice. Their Kickstarter for their autos should be announced soon. But going to be a bit more.
Mine arrived three weeks ago - loving it. Perfect everyday (and night) execution. It's a keeper.
Native of California here! So cool to know you're from SoCal too! Thanks for introducing this brand. Going to check out their catalog. I definitely enjoy your taste in timepieces. Looking forward to the next vid!
Thanks! I miss it at times, but I go back every couple of years.
It's great watch. I even got one for my nephew as a graduation gift. I'm hoping they let me know when their new one is ready. I'd love to see it.
As usual very well made video. Thanks a lot. Loved the watch.
Thanks for the lume comparison. Very helpful when picking a field watch.
Thanks. DId you get the Titanium Bertucci or the Polymer?
I like the brown two piece myself. Great Review.
Does the white model only have lume on the hands? Great review!
That... is an excellent question. One I didn't even think about. I can't find any pictures of it, so I'd just be guessing. Although looking at it, I think it does only have lume on the hands.
Great detail on that watch.
Always enjoy your videos, Man! 🏄🏻♂️
Now this is value for the money! Very nice field watch! That lume is good for a watch of that price. I personally would have the heritage light.
Not sure the lume is comparable between heritage light and dark...
@@RelativeTime that is a very interesting quartz movement. I'd love to see it used more.
To start off the video
I could almost picture something Daft Punk-like, along the lines of Derezzed in the build up and pumping tempo.
Thanks! It's always hard to decide how long to make an intro. You don't want it too short, but too long and people lose interest and just click though it.
Which do you prefer Shane... the Vaer or the Venture??
Vaer, easily. The Boldr is Titanium, which is a plus. Yet I like the Vaer's dial and case much better.
I just bought this watch with a nice discount code, keep these cool videos coming.
Hey Relative time, what kind of metal strap are you rocking at 10:56?
I just ordered one. Assembled in the U.S.A., looks like a Hamilton, and 100 meters water resistant. Did I mention half the price of a Hamilton? Great Video, Dude !
Thanks. It's a great watch. Only thing I've noticed since this is that the white version may not have lume on the dial. Not 100% sure on that.
Enjoy ⌚
Great review you have put this brand on my radar
Nice clean 3 hander. White on black always easy to read.
Hey I was also born in California and now living in Houston TX, awesome video by the way.
There's a citizen Chandler or something that seems better than the Seiko
I came close to buying a Chandler once. Heck, I may still! Good looking watch for sure, but the Seiko costs less, has better water resistance, better lume (I think), better looks (IMHO), and better crystal. Plus, my wife bought me the Seiko, so it's still the one to beat :)
By the way, I'd have gone with the Citizen BM8180-03E over the Seiko if the hands weren't skeletonized.
@@sublyme2157 since your wife got you this one then it's better :p
@@sublyme2157 jokes aside, both have 100m wr, can't speak about the lume, and looks is always subjective
I will see your SNE095 and raise you a SNE179. Same qualities, solar, finishing, lume, but without the gimicky fake bezel imprint around the dial.
Are these any better / worse than the bertucci A2 that run about the same price? Other than the strap length and crystal?
That's a tricky question. Kind of depends on what you prefer, they are very different.
The Bertucci is Titanium (which is a plus). The case is bigger and bulkier, but I think it's going to be tougher. It seems to be built like a tank. But I don't think it looks near as good, and you can only use Nato or single pass straps. As it has integrated lugs.
So if your doing primarily outdoor activities, the Bertucchi is probably better. But if you want something not quite as tough but, but looks good enough to wear in an office or out to dinner. Then Vaer is your better bet.
Relative Time Makes perfect sense. Tough vs. “tough enough”.
Great reviews!
I agree, I think this Heritage is my favorite of their line. And from what I see, the second hand hits the marks pretty well. Could replace my Beetucci.
I was planning on keeping that Bertucci, but with this, I'm not sure.
Wow. Thanks for showing us such a cool micro brand. I definitely am going to pick up a field black. My only criticism is that the date window seems to unnecessarily cut into the three. Maybe that’s where it had to be because of the movement requirements, but it’s just a little bothersome.
I noticed it, but it didn't bother me. I've seen much worse though.
Vaer Heritage Dark has arrived, but NO COOKIES !!! LOVING the watch though. It is everything Vaer says it is. This could make someone a one watch collection. Unfortunately, I am a very shallow and greedy man, one watch just will not due ! Oh, well...
Sorry, I ate all the cookies.😎
This looks like a very nice watch. Very clean design should be an attractive addition to anyone in need of respectable quartz watch. I like the “made in America” heritage of the Vaer brand. Interesting, informative video. Good job! Keep em coming...
Thanks a bunch!
chris penn hey did you have to pay import taxes? How much did they come too?
@@Alexsooze hasn't arrived yet.....

Thanks. Santa Barbara is beautiful. Only stopped in their once. Back when I had a friend at UCSB.
Just what I want ! ( except the date )
Actually, the only thing I like more here than a classic victorinox is the sapphire.
I love the 90's field watches like the Renegade ., and I miss the 38mm size.
This one did remind me of a Victorinox. Although it could have just been the red second hand. I think it's the same Victorinox red.
Right on
I like this model less than the others 😀😀 good to have a choice. I’d choose the non-arabics one it looks so good.
This is true. If we all liked the exact same thing, the world would be boring.
awsome review looks nice on the 2 pice leather, i think it should not cost more then 100$.
Was just on their site. 2 year warranty as well
That's something I forgot to mention.
I think Ginault does that. ginault.com/
Which is incredible for what they are doing, but the resulting price is much higher.
Not pursuing in house movements. They have indicated that the automatic will be available with two movement options, one miyota, and the other eta. The swiss movement watch will cost a bit more, naturally.
I’m buying one
I think you might have nailed the conclusion that this could be the "one" watch that does everything. After culling my herd of higher-end automatics, I think I've come full circle, wanting just a good-looking , all around quartz just because I'm sick of winding and setting the time/date for these overpriced pieces.
There is a lot to be said for simplicity. It's like a manual vs auto transmission in a car. Manual is a better driving experience. But when you live in a big city and have to constantly deal with traffic (life), the convince of an auto can't be beaten.
@@RelativeTime couldn't agree with you more. i miss driving a manual, though...haha
Seatbelt NATO... That's a damn good term/description!
I wish they hadn’t printed American Made over the minute markers at the bottom, it compromises legibility from 26-34 mins.
A little, but I'd rather have it there then in the middle of the dial. I guess they were following Seiko when they put made in Japan.
HB GUY Here!
Very nice watch
honestly for swiss quartz i'd rather just go with tissot (in the same price range) and for quartz generally i'd even be just fine going cheaper into something like timex since if i'm keeping a quartz it's for utility not fashion and the possibility of damage means i'd like to keep price as low as possible... for me to be interested in this piece, I'd like to see more quality on the overall fit/finish of the watch, especially the hands and the dial which look very lacking (cheaper printed dial with hands that look almost toyish). it's not an unreasonable ask especially when you look at the automatics they're releasing which will retail for over 700 dollars but have the exact same fit/finish of the watches we're looking at today. the 440 dollar one will have a miyota movement in it that costs about 50-75 dollars, and again, just does not have the fit/finish to back it up... the increase in cost is paying the price of overhead for a microbrand.
Tough call. Does the Victorinox have a screw down crown?
@@RelativeTime 100meters for the Infantry, if it is anything like the Officer I used to own it is a simple push pull crown.
Very nice watch! 😃
What is the steel bracelet at 6:30?
It's an off-brand Chinese Super Engineer style one I got off eBay. There is a link in the description to it, and amazing it still works after all this time.
I think they are about $30 and pretty good for that price. Take a bit to get to you though, especially these days.

Falling asleep is one of the hazards of speaking drunkaneese.

Mine doesn't hit the second hand markers. Gravity causes a millimetre variation which I'm told it's due to the cheapness of the movement in this watch.
What do you mean by variation due to gravity? Is it changing constantly as it goes around?
For the first look, I am thinking, it's a Timex 2.0
Not bad watch, with nice 100m WR and not bad lume (Vostok, you only need to do is add stronger lume!).
It's lacking for 24h hand - like other watch with simply quartz movement. I don't need chrono on every quartz watch. I need something different than simply, cheap movement. :)
IMHO - Casio Duro will be a little-little better choice :)
I actually suggested they look into making a GMT version. With that dial, and the 100m WR. Would make a great go anywhere and do anything watch.

I'm not from the US and assembly matters to me for the sole reason of customer service, I have a very bad experience with a microbrand assembling in China.
That is a good point. Some Chinese companies are better then others. Which ones have you had issues with?
@@RelativeTime Redux watch, it's an automatic titanium small diver (38mm) with different dial options. I backed them up since the kickstarter that was a very sketchy launch. Customer service it's condesendent and for a long time was non existent with several personal swaps.
They should do a Cali dial, no date!
Now that is an awesome idea. I think right now they are moving very slowly and being very cautious with their designs. I think they have been working on their auto for some time trying to get it just right.
Great looking watch, Besides the American Assembly text.
Do you think it disrupted the dial?

@@RelativeTime easy to open battery compartment. cheers from Brazil!
I would have a spare battery at home ,it is very sad, expensive and waste of time have to go to a shop to have a watch serviced.
Agreed it is, at this point, I have a small box with batteries in it. Although I'm not sure what water resistance most Swatches have. I thought I heard that most swatch stores will replace it for free. Although I've never really checked it out.
@@RelativeTime in Brazil you have to pay for the battery in swatch watch. Have a nice weekend and best regards, Mário.
No ETA movement in any models? Love the simplicity, would be even better without the date imo. Thank's Dude!
Cool dude.

The hour hand vibrates when the second hand moves thats terrible.
I didn't notice the hour hand, but I did on the minute. Although it's not vibrating, as much as moving slowly. You see all sorts of things you never notice before when you zoom in at that magnification.
You live in TX? Where? The nicest thing about that watch is the straps and bracelet.. The watch itself is terribly boring
Just outside the Big D.
@@RelativeTime cool, already looking forward to a Helm review by you. Btw: You can actually switch the bezels!
100% agree. I feel conned after this review.
Phlewant Dewd!
It looks like a Timex to me
It's in a similar style. Same as Timex, Hamilton, and some Shinola's .
I speak fluent Australian, and I’m not even Australian!
Somehow I think Crocodile Dundee wasn't completely accurate. 😎
fluent dude jaja
Totally!
It’s a Japanese movement.
Looks way too much like a Timex
Well, they are both going for that same look. Although it actually reminded me more of a quartz Victorinox then a Timex.
